Just so you know, the reason I'm somewhat finicky about character levels isn't because I'm a munchkin (I can't optimize to save my life), but because higher levels gives me more creative things to work with. If Malkai was at least an 8th level druid, he could potentially stay in animal form for his entire life. He can stay in animal form for 8 hours (1 hour per druid level) and use Wild Shape 3 times a day. Lower levels give me less, at least if I'm sticking with gameplay mechanics.
Sorry if you don't want us to be so anal about power levels, aside from balancing issues D&D tends to evoke, a lot of the cool things I do want to do require me being fairly high level to pull off. Thousand Faces, the spell-like-ability Malkai uses to hide his true appearance for example, requires him to be level 13.
