'There must be something we're missing, here,' Raphel furrowed his brow, still trying to figure out the one snag in all the plans that he'd attempt to devise thus far; how to get past the invader's defenses. Judging from the failed snipe that he made earlier, he knew that it was well-armored. Possibly from head to toe. That was the main reason that a Striker was necessary, as they were the only class that could really inflict the damage necessary to try and break it apart.

Thankfully, Raphel and Hiro had one Striker that was assigned to him team in Alistair Thorne, and while he was supposed to be assisting another team for this main mission, he was here now and ready to be put to use. However, just before he could relay to Alistair what he was thinking in terms of a plan, a transmission came in on an open channel.

"Actually, I do have a plan to end this thing but it’s a little, erm... unorthodox. If you guys wanna know, just say it."

It was a girl from one of the other teams... and she sounded rather confident. Did she figure out something Raphel overlooked? Was he trying to attack the problem from completely the wrong angle? Curious to know what this girl was thinking, Raphel wasted no time in picking up his receiver.

"Well, I myself was considering having our team attempt to behead the enemy," Raphel told the girl, looking over to Hiro and Alistair as well as he spoke into the receiver, "Hiro's Tethers can grant more than enough speed for Alistair here to deliver the necessary blow, and I can keep the enemy still for him through the use of my Psionic Lockdown. My main concern is whether we can apply enough force to break through that armor; and to that end, we may need more Strikers than we even have available. If your plan would better address the issue that I'm having, now would be the time to enlighten us."

...

Of course, Hiro and Alistair were welcome to suggest their own additions and/or alterations to Raphel's plan as well. They were his teammates, after all.
@TheHangedMan Schedule's looking clean. I'm in this for the long haul.

...

I was wondering something, however. Say I wanted to make a character that could extract the spirits out of living things and either put them back after having a chat with them, or plant them in another body. What kind of Aeon would that fall under?
Interest checked. Hopefully my schedule can support this interest

β€œHeh. I’ll admit he gave me a jump, b-but I don’t think he’s all that bad. I think he’s just as excited as I am, and he just has a different way of showing it than I do. I’m-- I’m sure we’ll get along eventually.”

Well... Hiroki must've had a different way of showing it, alright. Still, judging by what he was saying, Ito Kenji seemed to have taken the aggression that was forced upon him like a champ. Either that, he was simply being modest... for Hiroki's sake, funnily enough. Regardless, it was good to hear that Kenji came out the other end in one piece. He even expressed in looking forward to attending the academy.

"That's great, I look forward to have you here too!" Tanifuji exclaimed, letting her excitement known, "Oh, and if Sakimoto-kun happens to give you any more trouble, don't be afraid to let young Tanifuji-senpai here or any of the other teachers know. We'll set him straight; even if we have to..."

"AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!! SHE CAME BACK TO FINISH THE JOB!"

Tanifuji recognized that voice all to well, and as she whipped around back to the other students, it wasn't hard to put a face to the name. That beanie. Those glasses. That strange tail with an end that seemed to resemble a USB port. Tanifuji's smile had vanished completely.

"Hold on; this isn't the exam any more, Tetsumi-kun!" Tanifuji called out in desperation, "I'm really a nice girl deep down, I promise!"

But it was too late. Tanifuji could only watch as Tetsumi Shiki charged the opposing direction with reckless abandon, weaving his way passed the other students and even looking to head straight into a girl with a ponytail that happened to be late in arrival. Tanifuji's thoughts drifted back to the day of the exam. She was supposed to have caught Shiki after she kicked him over to that other zone but, despite her best efforts, she wasn't fast enough to catch up to him, leaving him to crash into that mailbox and be put out of commission. True, failing to keep an eye on how strong her Quirk had gotten didn't help, but the real kicker was the idea of Tanifuji playing the part of a deranged psychopath for the exams. It was supposed to be a fun role to take up; she had no idea that it could scar anyone so badly...

She'd have to apologize to Shiki for leading him to think she was a sadist, but for now, she tried to re-establish the smile she had earlier as she returned her attention to Kenji. She didn't want him to think that something went so wrong that she couldn't fix it.

"Go on inside," she instructed in a soft tone.

"Thank you for your concern. My foot is fine, just cuts, nothing too deep. The school patched me up after the exam."

"G-good to hear..." Umi nodded as she said this, waiting for the dark-skinned girl to introduce herself as Haruishi Mari before saying anything further, "Er... m-my name? S-Suguro U-Umi. N-Nice to meet y-you."

After having reacted so weirdly to her own tap of the shoulder, Umi decided that a simple wave of hello would be suffice. She was never very good with social situations; that much was evident from her constant stuttering every time she opened her mouth. Still, Mari seemed like a nice enough person. Suddenly, missing the allies Umi teamed up with in the exam didn't feel so bad after all.

...

Someone would later ask what the deal was with a certain blue-skinned boy within the group, and now that she thought of it, Umi did recall him from the day of the exam as well... if only barely. He reminded her of one of the bullies that turned her Human Sponge Quirk against her after having done their homework on it, forcefully making her body grow out of her own clothes by dumping buckets of water on her and humiliating her in the process. Umi made certain to stay away from the boy out of that reminder alone.

The blue-skinned boy made a highly arrogant boast about being the number 1 hero, only to go berserk when someone had mistaken him for the real deal. Another student had tried to put a stop to the outrage, only to face his own threat of being attacked. Things were getting too far out of hand too quickly; it was enough to make Umi want to cry out in anguish...

Tanifuji threw everything she was carrying to the floor of the gymnasium that she was taking it to, and bolted towards the scene with all the might in her legs. As she ran, her thoughts lead her to wonder what the hell the principal was thinking when she allowed Sakimoto Hiroki to be admitted into Jigokuraku Academy. His abrasive nature knew no bounds, and to say that'd be a problem would be the understatement of the year. By the sound of it, he already made a scene right on the first day of school. True, one of the students had put a valiant effort to stop it from escalating, but that was something only a teacher would be able to successfully diffuse in the end.

Thankfully, Ohto Goudo had accomplished that very thing by the time Tanifuji arrived.
The normally excitable giantess breathed a sigh of relief; if it were up to her, she would probably have ultimately decided that the best course of action was to kick Hiroki so hard he'd have to redo the climb up the mountain path all over again. No doubt she'd get into trouble over acting so rashly. Once again, Goudo proved to be the lifesaver that he always was. It was enough bring a smile to Tanifuji's face.

"Shall we Ms. Tanifuji Egao?"

"Right," Tanifuji moved to hold the other door, and ushered the other students inside, "To the hall, everyone; assembly's just about to start!"

...

As the students moved inside, Tanifuji caught a glimpse of the boy that Hiroki had originally confronted. He had shoulder-length black hair, thick black-rimmed glasses and a couple of antennae on his head, and he looked to be rather plump as well. It was rare for a Japanese person to become heavyset, but so was the off-chance that a woman would reach anywhere near Tanifuji's height. Tanifuji rested a hand on the boy's shoulder, just as he was about to pass her by and join everyone else in the assembly.

"You OK, there? Sakimoto-kun didn't lay it on you too thick, did he?" she asked, with a friendly smile on her face.

With one big gulp, Umi took a look around and surveyed the student body that had arrived. Some of the students, she partially recognized from the exam that she took to get into Jigokuraku Academy that day; others she could've sworn she never saw in her entire lifetime. She only knew two that she could truly consider acquaintances, and neither of them looked to have turned up just yet. However, there was one student in particular that stood out: a tall, dark-skinned girl who looked very familiar in appearance somehow. She wasn't quite as tall as Tanifuji, perhaps five or so inches shorter. But she still towered over Umi effortlessly, if memory served the latter correctly.

Umi was mesmerized by the sight of a strange, unexplainable familiarity when suddenly...

"Hey, do you know where we're supposed to go?"

Try as she might to muffle her scream with the clasp of her own hands around her mouth, Umi was caught too far off-guard to react in time. And who more plausible to have managed such a feat than a complete stranger coming from her left side? Red with flustered embarrassment, Umi clutched her heart, only to be met with a scowl from the strange boy. She knew that type of scowl all to well.

"Er... a-actually, y-you're as c-close to the h-hall as you c-can get," Umi eventually answered the boy, if only whilst under immense pressure, "W-We've still got ab-bout five minutes b-before it'll open, so... I-I-I'm really sorry,"

With a half-assed couple of bows, Umi took off in a hurry. She didn't know which direction she was going; she just wanted to find someone that was just a little more familiar so she could stop the dread of vulnerability. This is turn lead her to the group of students that were there that day, who'd all conveniently bundled up in one big group. That at least made it a little easier.

Umi reached out to tap the dark-skinned girl on the shoulder and then, as if she received an electric shock from such contact, sharply recoiled her way back a few steps. She really needed to handle the whole social thing better; now she was just coming across as weird.

"I... I-I don't m-mean to pry, but... m-m-may I ask h-how your leg is?" she eventually managed to spit out, "I-I noticed you h-hurt it badly b-back at the e-exam when I... I-I br-brought my first d-d-d-dummy in..."

She could only hope that the dark-skinned girl didn't take too much pride in herself, and want to kick Umi in the face just to prove her leg was A-OK...

No doubt that was a direct hit, but it can't have inflicted as much damage to the stricken enemy as Raphel would've liked. On top of that, the invader had made its counterattack way too quickly; almost as if it knew exactly where Raphel was hiding. Raphel evaded being caught in the blast with ease, but had to resort to hiding behind the base of the tree in place of among the leaves, as they had been completely vaporized by the invader's shot. Dismay was plastered all over Raphel's face as he was forced to re-strategize.

It was at this point that the team Linker, Hiro Valentine, had arrived with a fully functional "map" displayed on his drone. An overview of the terrain was always helpful to have on hand regardless of the undertaken mission, especially to a designated sniper such as Raphel. There were also plenty of benefits in having a second person to exchange deductions with.

"You're right, Hiro; we'll certainly have to tread lightly going forward. It appears as though remaining stationary at any point of time would be an unacceptable strategy as well. We face ourselves with quite the adversaries, here; that much is crystal clear."

Raphel looked around the tree to get a view on what the enemy was doing. It had prepared another shot, but aimed it at a completely different direction from last time. It was possible that someone else was under attack, by the very same creature that Raphel had engaged seconds earlier. He quickly looked through the data that he'd compiled earlier to see if there was anything on them that he could use.

"We really need a means to down that behemoth in one shot," Raphel said as he stifled through the data, "It's all good removing its offensive capabilities. Crippling its legs so it can't move. Even so much as blinding the curse-... Hmm. Come to think of it, I never did like those eyes..."

Raphel got to thinking. Was he supposed to try and get to the brain through the eye sockets of all things? Attacking headlong like that would be risky at best and downright reckless at worst. Hell, it could even be considered suicidal if one went about it with neither the right plan nor the right support. Then again, if these things were supposed to be the creme of the crop in terms of invaders, it would make sense that their weak points would be at the very least hard to get to, if not well protected.

"In any case, I'll continue to provide covering fire while we devise an appropriate plan of attack, but it'd be wise for us to begin moving some Strikers into position as well," Raphel put his PDA back into his pocket and resumed his battle stance, "We should primarily focus on applying as much pressure on the enemy as we're able."

It was a long and tiring ascent, and Suguro Umi had been shivering from the prolonged exposure to this white frosty morning. Ordinarily, one would've thought to bring warmer clothing for such an occasion, but while she at least remembered her jacket despite being so panicky over the aspect of failing to arrive on time, Umi didn't have the luxury of any adequate thermal leggings. As such, all that cold had dug in from the lower half of her body and worked its way up. What made it all the worse was the fact that Umi would have to endure so much more, as she'd barely even started her climb up the treacherous mountain path that was to take her to Jigokuraku Academy.

Still, Umi trudged onward for a few more steps, unwilling to allow her difficulty in handling the cold to stop her from making it to school on time. She made a valiant effort, but in the end, it was too much for her, and she collapsed instantly. Her saving grace would come in the form of a pair of headlights shone from an SUV, which had maneuvered to pull over the second its driver saw she was there.

"Oh, hey there!" a cheerful female voice called out as the left side window rolled down, "Need a ride?"

"I, uh... th-thank you, I..." Umi hesitated on taking up the offer, unable to help but wonder if it really wasn't a problem for the SUV's driver. Judging by the direction it was going, Umi guessed that the woman was a fellow teacher of the academy; after all, why else would one want to drive up an old beaten mountain path. However, their was still the chance that the seemingly friendly woman was going out of her way completely, in which case she'd be expending valuable time and fuel already.

With a small nod to herself, Umi decided to accept the kind offer, and reached for the passenger door...

Interactions: Suguro Umi (Yours Truly :])

After waiting for her newfound passenger to clamber in and buckle up, Tanifuji Egao shifted her SUV back out of park and slowly applied the gas. No doubt the poor Umi was shivering from her failed attempt to climb the mountain, but thankfully Tanifuji had the air conditioning set to warm her back up in no time. Now it was just a leisurely drive up... a few bumps along the way aside.

"It's a shame the bus can't take you guys all the way up today..." Tanifuji noted, "At least this girl can handle both the terrain and all this frost that's coming down right about now."

Umi remained silent for much of the ascent. She always was a rather shy girl, and had a tendency to look down, almost if she was ashamed. Noting this, Tanifuji shifted her eyes to face her reflection on the rear view mirror.

"Something wrong?" she asked out of curiosity.

"Oh no, n-n-not at all. I-I just..." Umi stuttered, "Er, h-how do I... a-address you, e-exactly?"

"Tanifuji-senpai; that's my official name on campus. People have called me sensei as well, but I'd rather stick to senpai. Sensei just makes me sound like an old hag," by this point, Tanifuji had managed to drive all the way up to the Jigokuraku Academy gates, and found a spare park that she was confident she could reverse into, "Welp, here we are..."

Bringing the SUV to a stop for the last time, Tanifuji undid her seat-belt and popped the trunk so that she could get what she needed to out of it. Umi had started to exit at around the same time as Tanifuji had opened her door, and while it took her a while to ensure she got out OK, she was able to grab her schoolbag out in due time.

"Th-thanks again f-for the ride, S-Sen..." Umi tried to account for the height difference as she looked up to Tanifuji but, now that she saw the young woman at her full height for the first time, she realized that said difference was something she'd severely underestimated, much to her shock. It was true that Umi had little to go on while the two were seated, but still...

"Oh! Did I surprise you with how tall I am?" Tanifuji had to bend her knees and lean forward slightly so that she could properly meet Umi's wide-eyed gaze, but she remained as cheerful as ever, "I was always big for my age even before this silly pituitary gland of mine decided to overdo the growth spurt thing, so I've got used to seeing looks just like that."

"Oh, I... I-I see..." Umi said, slowly raising a hand to wave goodbye, "W-well, I... I-I'll see you in c-c-class, I hope,"

"Who knows; you just might," with that, Tanifuji went around the back of her SUV to grab a dufflebag and a few items of equipment, before closing the trunk shut and locking it. She then went on her way, while Umi headed to where the other students were.

...

Now that she thought about it, Umi wondered what the students would think knowing she was the one to get a ride from Tanifuji, afeared for what kind of judgement would be passed onto her. Perhaps they'd show jealousy at her for not being picked themselves, or perhaps they'd express their pity for her in a baleful manner, for not even being able to make one lousy hike like everyone else.

It was safe to say that Umi would feel out of place compared to everyone... and worryingly quickly, at that.
@Thinslayer Unfortunately, something cropped up that I need to take care of. Looks like I won't be able to partake in the RP after all :/
@AdmrlStalfos19 I'll consider it. Interspecies adoption could be interesting. What do you have in mind?

I was gonna play a young female orc that was chased away by orcs from an enemy tribe as a child, before being being found by a human adventurer and taken in. Haven't figured out all the details yet, but I do have a face-claim in mind
