MID-SEPTEMBER

Ananya remembered it all: the fever, the pain, the hallucinations. Everything. Granted, she was only about eight when it had happened to her, but no one forgets that sort of pain so easily. It had taken over every fibre of her being, and lasted for much longer than it should've. The amount of times she'd accidentally shifted to her Nag state in midst of her pain was much more than she'd shifted her entire life. Her skin burned and froze all at the same time, and it was the sort of agony Ananya would never wish on her enemies.

Well maybe some, but what was besides the point.

Adarsh for the past week and a half had been writhing on his bed in cold sweat. Ananya remembered the weeks following up to it. The signs, the symptoms, and she recognised it in Adarsh β€” it was finally time for his Sabhya. But unlike her Sabhya where she had an experienced Nag guide her through the ordeal, Adarsh was all alone except for a just as clueless sister and human father. Ananya, as soon as she realised, decided to stay back. There was no way the young nagin could leave her brother in pain while she enjoyed her time at Mayweather. What sort of sister would that make her?

Instead, she tried helping Adarsh the same way their mother had helped her many moons ago. It wasn't as effective, Ananya knew that very well. But what could the young Nag do? She couldn't see him suffer, Adarsh was her little baby brother. At some points during the week she found herself even wishing that her brother wasn't a nag just so he wouldn't have to deal with the pain.

So he could be a normal teenager. But what would wishing do? Adarsh was now on the way to being considered a naga and Ananya could feel the swell of pride in her amidst the concern for her younger brother. The Sabhya only happened once, and once the pain was done, Adarsh would feel great.

END OF SEPTEMBER - EARLY OCTOBER

Maybe unnecessarily long Sabhyas came with being a Sharma. Ananya didn't know whether this was true; maybe she and her brother were just anomalies compared to the rest of the Nags, or maybe each Nag suffered through over two weeks worth of pain as part of their nature as a magical snake-human hybrid. Her mother never told her how long her Sabhya had lasted for, so this was all based on Ananya's assumption.

"Arey, jaldi karo na! Daard ho raha hai, dΓdi!"

Her brother was curled up into a ball in his bed, blankets tossed off the side of the bed with sweat covering his dark skin as he shivered. Ananya nodded, taking the scrunched up towel and dipping it into the herbal mix for the x-th time that evening. Wringing out the excess - and wincing at the strong smell of disinfectant mixed in with the other ingredients - Ananya pressed the cold, damp towel against his side. Adarsh sighed as the coolness numbed his aching side, momentarily making him forget about the pain.

"Mani jaldi ara ha hai. Fikar mat karo."

"Fikar mai kaise mat karo? You didn't warn me it would hurt this bad when you told me it was time for my Sabhya."

Adarsh's shaky voice was accusatory, and all Ananya could do was wince. Maybe she did leave out that one crucial part when she sat Adarsh down almost a month ago to explain what was going to happen to him. To be fair, the young nagin didn't want to scare Adarsh, even if he was a (self-proclaimed) strong boy man. Even Elliot was stood there, leaning against the door frame while (trying to) discreetly chew on his nails from the anxiety. There was little Ananya could do to comfort him when she herself could barely handle seeing her baby brother in so much pain.

"It'll all get better soon, it's almost out anyway. Give it another day."

Ananya rubbed Adarsh's thick hair softly, humming under her breath. It was a song their mother liked to sing, using the soft, gentle melody to lull the once tiny Nags to sleep back in India. The habit stuck, and Ananya would find herself humming - even singing along to it sometimes - along to the song whenever she needed that little extra comfort.

ONE WEEK LATER

"So now what? You're leaving because of some tournament thing you originally weren't even supposed to be a part of?"

Adarsh's Sabhya had ended three days ago, and the teen was finally able to walk around the house without looking like a typical zombie from The Walking Dead series. Ananya pulled her suitcase from out of her father's car trunk, letting the heavy case slam onto the trolley carelessly as her brother stood beside her, covered up in three blankets and a fluffy ski hat (which Ananya was almost certain was actually hers). Elliot shut the car door, reaching over to his son to give him something to hold onto as Ananya just shrugged in response to his question. Ananya, dressed in a light pink suit, pulled out her phone from the tote bag she was carrying.

"It's not like I have much choice in the matter. I'll ask Mrs. Lovelace when I arrive whether it's absolutely necessary to participate, but to do that I have no choice but to go visit her in Mayweather."

Ananya noticed a little frown on Adarsh's face, and she let out a soft sigh. She dropped her tote on top of the suitcase before reaching forward to pull her younger brother into a gentle hug, careful not to press into his side and aggravate the still sore wound. "You'll be fine. I'm just a phone call away. And I'll visit whenever I can. Just say the word, okay?" Ananya assured him, Adarsh's arms curling around his short sister's body. Ananya and Adarsh let out a surprised squeak as their father joined in the hug, pulling the two children into his chest with his hands patting their head.

"Oh come on, I can take care of you too. I'm not that bad."

Both Ananya and Adarsh let out a snort, and the soft patting turned into a harsh tap. The snort turned into laughter between the three, the family bonding for a little while longer. Before long, Ananya pulled away from the hug, giving both her father and Adarsh a kiss to their cheeks before smiling and waving as she pushed the trolley with her suitcase towards the airport entrance.

A COUPLE HOURS LATER

Boy was Ananya exhausted. The young nagin was ready to just collapse into her bed and sleep for the next couple weeks. After doing all nighters for the past few weeks, with barely enough resting time in between because of Adarsh's Sabhya, it wasn't a surprise that as soon as Ananya took her seat on the plane, she was asleep immediately. Thankfully, it was a dreamless sleep and the girl was able to gather as much of her energy as she could before having to meet Mrs Lovelace about the mix-up. All Ananya had received was an email with little warning yesterday morning, and by that night she already had her plane tickets and suitcase packed, ready for the year ahead of her.

And when Ananya finally reached Mayweather, the girl found herself just a bit excited. Maybe this was finally the time for Ananya to test her abilities against the other heroic students of Mayweather despite the chances of her butt getting whooped was quite high. After hurrying along the now familiar corridors of Mayweather, she couldn't help but notice there was an abundance of faces she didn't recognise - not everybody could be a new freshman, right? Ananya made a note of it to ask Mrs Lovelace about it later, but as of for now, her priority was making it there without crashing into a body in the crowded hallway.

Finally arriving, Ananya stood outside the door, taking a deep breath before raising her fist to knock on the door in front of her, and when she heard the her beckoning her inside, Ananya slowly opened the door, peeking inside before fully stepping into Mrs Lovelace's office. "You wanted to see me?" Ananya asked. In the office, along with Mrs Lovelace were two other people, two she didn't recognise at all. She gave them a nervous smile, before hiding her hands behind her back so she could play with her fingers.

You most certainly can!

Not only are you a Virgo, but your birthday falls early into the Virgo season. Perhaps you struggle between being social and being cautious? This does not seem impossible for a Virgo born in the first arc of the season! For your compatibility, I would suggest Taurus, Capricorn, Libra, Cancer and possibly even Pisces. If you're feeling a little daring, you may also find luck with Aquarius or even Scorpio.

Ahh that sounds like me. My boyfriend is a Libra so that's good <3

Thank you!

β€œVALIE!”

There was no time to think at all. One minute Valentina was laughing at the stunned-happy expressions on her friends' faces, the next minute, she was being crushed by an overly excited blonde, the main focus of the trip, Chloe Jameson. Of course, Dominic was just as important - being the groom and all - but with how timid the poor sweet man was, Val would've guessed that his dream bachelor 'party' would be having a quiet night in with the love of his life and close friends. Maybe she was presuming incorrectly, or maybe not - but Valentina could only hope that this trip would be as fun for Dominic as it would be for Chloe and the gang.

Hugging her blonde best friend tightly in return, the brunette teacher beamed at the rest from behind Chloe's back. "It's good to know you're happy to see me so soon!" Still grinning, Valentina pulled away from the embrace to let Chloe gather her carry on. What came as a bigger surprise was being pulled into another embrace - but not by Dominic (not that she was expecting one from him anyway) or by Paige, but from Jean. Unlike the previous hug, Jean was careful not to crush the petite teacher in his arms, and Val's arms circled around his lower body in return. Almost like she'd been following habits.

It hadn't worked out well, between the two of them. It just wasn't the right time. They were too busy and other things became more important than their relationship. They'd tried to stick through it, hoping that eventually they'd settle down and figure something out - but it never happened. Jean leaned down and whispered into her ear, sending shivers down her back at the familiar words before she smiled again. "HellΓ³ kedves ember..." She replied back, just as softly as he had done before the embrace was over and he winked at her. The final call for boarding was announced and the group finally gathered their belongings to board the plane for a week of fun.

She'd been seated beside Dominic, and she didn't know whether to thank her stars or to curse her luck because of it. On the bright side, at least she didn't have to sit beside Tish or River, both of whom had taken it upon themselves to loudly sing along to some song. However, she did have to deal with the nervous groom constantly shuffling between his seat and Chloe's, often being turned away by a stewardess when he was noticed. Val couldn't blame the poor guy, she knew if she were in his position she'd be doing the exact same thing. Instead, the brunette took the opportunity to take pictures of each pair having a good time, taking good care to ensure the pictures were of high quality for her blog post later.

Why not show the world how happy her friends were?

Between taking pictures, reading a good novel and conversing with Dominic whenever he'd remain in his seat long enough, the hours flew by like a breeze. Soon enough, they were back on land and at baggage claim, gathering their belongings before being ushered into a black limo that would drive them to their hotel. A limo. Valentina took a picture, more to brag about it to her colleagues when she'd finally returns than for her blog, before stuffing the camera away into her tote and sliding into the seat. The trip between the airport and hotel was a blur for Val, mainly because the tired brunette fell asleep immediately after sitting right back down again.

By the time she woke back up, they'd just pulled into the hotel, some already leaving so they could check in and (possibly) get some rest before the actual fun began. Valentina was glad to have her roomie be Chloe - at least then she'd be able to help out the stressed bride as well as get some rest when she needed it. While Chloe napped, the teacher pulled out her laptop after sorting out her clothes into the appropriate drawers and began her blog post.

Remember how I was sad last night that I couldn't join Chloe and everyone at Vegas till much later? Well! My boss surprised me this morning and allowed me to jet off early to meet up with them JUST as they were gonna board the flight! I'm so excited to see everyone and to have a good time this week, and even though I miss Gemma and wish my baby was with me on this trip... I'm still so happy! Both Chloe and Jean hugged me at the airport, and I even got a delicious baked treat from Chloe! What a sin it would be to leave it waiting...

I sat next to Dom on the flight. The poor guy kept going to see Chloe only to be forced to return and sit with me again. Chloe didn't look like she could sleep either, but at least everyone seemed to have a good time on the flight. I even recorded Tish and River singing! Okay, maybe I'm not the biggest fan of rock, or whatever they were singing, but at least it was entertaining!

PRESS PLAY TO WATCH

I took a couple more pictures too! Tish fell asleep on Jean and it was so cute! Then there was Dominic and Chloe talking about wedding preparations... AND it looks like Oberon and Paige might have something happening, because boy does he look nervous! Ha! Maybe I should question Chloe about it later...

Now we've arrived at the hotel and it looks so big! We even arrived in a bloody LIMO! the kids are going to be excited to see that. Gem would've loved it too, she would've stuck her little itty head out the window to watch all the sights going by so quickly-- I miss her :(

At 9PM, Valentina tucked her laptop away underneath her pillows so she could return to posting later before getting changed. The gang slowly gathered around inside the suite, and after Chloe suggested some truth or dare to get the night started, Valentina knew the night was only going to get better.

And better it did. Valentina was in tears at Oberon's confession, the girl laying on her bed with her hands shaking - possibly ruining the focus of her camera at this point while laughing along with the others at the sheer perfection of his response. ”Okay guys, before we head on. Can I propose a room change? I fear that either my life or my ass is going to be in danger tonight.”

Maybe it was the cocktail she was having, or maybe she was too happy to care, but the girl couldn't help but choke out between her laughter a response. "Why? Maybe you and Jean need to celebrate after that beautiful confession!" In hindsight, speaking was probably not the best idea because the man looked directly at her and asked her to choose truth or dare. Maybe it really was the drinks because the girl stupidly decided to go for a dare right after poking fun at Oberon.

At least she was able to record his humiliation.

Signing up to her fate, Valentina settled the camera down on the bedside table, saving and shutting the object before making her way to the on-suite to grab her bag of make-up. After grabbing it, she brought it out and settled down beside River, giving him full access to her cosmetics with a resigned sigh. She waited while River did her make-up, the teacher anxious to see the final product minutes later. When she was told it was over, the first thing she did was check herself out in the mirror nearby, dying on the inside.

At least they didn't have to go out after this...

Making eye contact with Tish, Valentina made a face at her, wiggling her eyebrows with a grin. When the tattooed pixie chose truth, Valentina deflated a little. No revenge for Mrs Joker then. "Aww, okay. Out of everyone in this room, who do you want to make out with the most?" Valentina, as a joke, fluttered her long eyelashes at Tish dramatically. "It's obviously me, right? River's made me so irresistible!"

It was barely the crack of dawn but she was already awake, sitting on her round bed with her legs folded as she flicked through the pictures on her Nikon camera. Each picture had one thing missing: herself. It was always of something largely insignificant to the normal masses: trees, fences, graffiti or even junk. It didn't matter, not even to Analise Arnette. There was no meaning behind the pictures, no abstract message other than for her own memory. That's not to say that there weren't any pictures of her parents hidden around somewhere, those memories just as precious as the trash. She'd spent the summer shuffling between different states - or more specifically clinics. Sight-seeing wasn't the main motive for the Arnette family this summer, but that didn't mean Anna didn't have a fun summer! It's good to keep a positive outlook on things, right? It's not like its hard for Anna to be positive anyway, and she gladly embraced that trait.

Settling the camera back down on the messy sheets beside her, Analise stood up slowly from her comfortable cocoon of a bed, crawling out of the little blanket fort she'd formed that night when she realised she was too jittery to sleep. She was anxious, yes, but elated to see her beloved friends once more. Hell, she was even willing to suffer through gym to see them again. Her light pink lips curled down into a little frown at the thought of gym. 'I'm probably still failing that this year...' The dreaded thought sat in her mind like an unwanted (drunk) uncle at a dinner party.

Winston jumped on top of the bed, pawing at the sheets Anna was once sitting on before laying back down on his paws while watching his human with large beady eyes. "Winnie, were you really just waiting for me to get up from that spot?" The blonde royal pouted at her pup, getting nothing but a blank stare in return. It was times like these that Anna wonders whether her pup hated her, but the chipper girl knew otherwise.

Or she just refused to believe it.

"Alright, fine. You win, Winnie." Instead of cuddling her darling for an hour, Anna decided it was time to get dressed and maybe even surprise her parents with some breakfast later. She headed over towards her clothes, already ready and picked from the night before and still as blue as ever before picking it up and hanging it over her shoulder. Anna reached out for her phone that was sitting on the dressing table before swiping and scrolling to a name.

Niles
Rise and shine! I hope you're excited~!

Hitting send, the girl then set her phone back down onto the table before heading towards her ensuite to get ready for the day. An hour later, a bright and perky blonde was out of the bathroom and sitting back down on her bed once more, this time ready for the school day ahead. "Will you wish me luck?" Looking towards her moody pup, Analise realised a little too late that Winston had taken her bed hostage as his bed. "...I'll take that as a no then."

Accepting that her pup wasn't willing to give her any love that particular morning, the royal slipped out of her bedroom, heading towards the kitchen where she dismissed the cook with a polite (and sheepish) smile. "It's okay, Charlie, I'd like to make breakfast today. Would you like me to make you some tea while you read the paper?"

Charlie, taken aback, declined the offer with a slow shake of his head. "Are you sure? I could assist if you'd like." This time it was Anna's turn to shake her head, the smile still on her face as she collected the pans and ingredients out of the large fridge.

It was pancake morning.

Or... it was supposed to be. 30 minutes later, Anna stared at the pan with a forlorn look on her face as the batter became something akin to charcoal in the pan. "Um, Charlie?" There was a hum from behind her, and she turned to look at the chef sitting on the island stool with an amused grin on his face. "Is it too late to take you up on that offer?"

"Of course not, Miss Anna." The sad face turned into a childish pout. No matter how many times Anna insisted Charlie to drop the formalities around her, he refused to listen. The chef stood up, stepping around the island to take over the job as the cook as Anna prepared to watch carefully.

"Charlie, did you let Anna cook pancakes again?" A low voice sounded from the doorway, the two (or one chef and one helper) cooks turning around to see Analise's father: Stephen Arnette leaning against the door frame, tiredly rubbing his forehead with out hand as his other held his glasses loosely. "It smells like a cremated squirrel in here."

"It can't be that bad, can it?" Anna inhaled sharply, her nose desensitised to the burnt smell of her previously atrocious attempt at breakfast. Instead, the sweet smell of a properly cooked pancake filled her nose instead. "It smells great, dad, I don't know what you're talking about."

"Oh yes of course, it smells like a sweet cremated squirrel, my bad."

"Dad!"

"Anna! Sweetie shouldn't you be at school?" This time it was her worried mother that piped up, a little more awake compared to Stephen. "I thought you wanted to arrive early to greet the freshmen?" That was true. Analise had spent so long getting ready and making breakfast that time had slipped past her. She yelped, looking at Charlie panickedly ("I'll serve it you your parents, Miss Anna, don't worry.") before running around the island to press a kiss to both her parents' cheeks and disappearing down the hallway.

While Anna did arrive a little too late to welcome the fresh new faces to the scary halls of Beverly Hills High School, she arrived in time to slip into a seat close to the back in time for the assembly to begin. 'Maybe I'll have more luck at the fair.' Ever so hopeful, Anna listened to the same old speech again, this time with a little nostalgia - hey, it was her last time listening to it, why not cherish it a little? - and when it was time to leave, she was the first one out.

Niles
Nilessssssssssss where are you? Thought we should catch up!

She noticed a tiny brunette talking to the volleyball captain, her eyes wide and a grin on her face as they discussed something (most likely about volleyball) before her eyes landed on Audrey's figure by the dance team's booth. A wide grin broke out on the blonde's face, and she bounded over to her friend - almost stumbling on her way there.

"Audrey! I missed you!" She cried out, reaching Audrey and pulling her into a sudden hug. Oh, it was good to be back.

Was this really how high school was?

Eva was certain it was supposed to be a lot more... fun than this. She'd already been at the campus before, knowing Alyssa and Connor made her already somewhat accustomed to the supposedly scary hallways. She'd been hyped, most certainly, since she'd graduated junior high months ago. It was mainly to see her closest friends - her partners in crime but she couldn't just credit her friends for all her excitement.

This was a new chapter in her life, she was in high school now. A big girl, as her mother would love to remind her every second of the day. It was common knowledge to those that knew the brunette freshman that her relationship with her mother was complicated to say the least. It would've been hatred, if Evalyn didn't already like the spotlight that came with modelling.

The assembly had been long and boring - just as she'd expected. It was just about the codes of conduct, rules and expectations - nothing out of the ordinary. It was just filled with other freshmen and sophmores, so she could only guess that the older students were already out doing their own little thing. It was boring, but at least Eva knew she'd be able to see Alyssa out there by the time her assembly was over. Eva had even arrived a little early to school so she could see the halls empty, slowly filling up with attractive and popular (some even famous) students. Just like Alyssa had taught her, she carefully considered each one (to the best of her novice ability) to determine whether they were someone Eva was willing to interact with. Last thing Evalyn wanted was a boring person to hang around with whenever Alyssa or Connor weren't available.

When the students were dismissed, Eva left, joining a group of somewhat excited freshmen that she recognised from junior high and was guided out by a member of staff towards the football field where the Activity's Fair was taking place. She pulled her phone out of her shorts pocket, looking down with disappointment as she noticed no messages from Lyssy. Maybe she was waiting for her to message instead?

Lyssy
Okay so you were right, assembly was boringggggggg. Are you even at school yet? I'm waiting :(

Pressing send, Eva approached the volleyball stand after breaking from the group. The freshman already knew which club she wanted to join, and after approaching the stand with a smile and somewhat hesitant stride she spoke, "Hi! I'm Evalyn and uh... when can I try out for the team?" The captain pointed towards a sticker on the board, and Eva's cheeks darkened.

'Oh... it was right there.'

Cursing herself for being such a bonehead, she forced a smile on her face, stepping away from the stand with still heated cheeks. From the corner of her eye, she noticed a blonde girl literally glomping a brunette by the dance stand, with strength she didn't think the blonde had.

'And we got those types too, fantastic...'

She missed Alyssa.
