Charlie couldn’t help but smile at the two, feeling nostalgic about their interactions with each other. She didn’t blame either of them for not catching her name during homeroom since she hadn’t caught any of their names either. Heck, the two of them had an even better excuse than she did, seeing as how she had just been jamming to music and tuning out the world. It appeared Danny had been the winner on actually paying attention and she was over the moon that he had. They all had so much to catch up on that probably couldn’t be covered in the small span of the mini festival but at least they had reconnected. ”Happy to be back! I missed you guys so much! I feel like this is the real way of finishing off high school. You guys better show me the ropes around here and not leave me hanging. Oh, and I want to meet all your new friends!”, she said excitedly. "Already replacing me with your old pals, Charlie?"

Her attention pulled away from the twins, turning to a familiar feminine voice that she would know anywhere. ”Lyds! You know I would never! There is room in my heart for all of my friends.”, Charlie replied as she rushed forward to pull Lydia into a hug, keeping an arm around her bestie’s shoulder as she addressed everyone. ”Do you all know each other or are introductions in order?”, she asked before her current smile started to slowly dim a bit while looking at the other three. It suddenly felt a little awkward, even more so because she wasn’t sure if she caused it by doing something wrong or if something happened that she wasn’t aware of. It just got suddenly far too quiet, as if they were trying to avoid or walking on eggshells. She knew Lydia sometimes had a strong personality but her heart was in a good place. Maybe they just didn’t know her that well? Or did their personalities clash? Either way, Charlie was determined that she could at least try and make the group come together or maybe she could figure out what happened to help fix whatever was going on here.

Jiang didn’t have a chance to react to the question, let alone appreciate the sauntering that came along with it since he suddenly went on pause mode for the weirdest one sided conversation that was bordering on insulting since it was obviously about her. She was irked to say the least and was about to give him peace of her mind when she suddenly blinked, her jaw dropping open slightly from surprise at being called Madame of all things. She hated that phrase! Her nose wrinkled in disgust under her mask, a deep frown and a harsh glare set in this masked figure's direction. He was damn lucky he disappeared just as rapidly as he had appeared because ancient spirit or not, she wanted him to taste her wrath slowly and painfully. She was not old! Okay, yes, she had lived for centuries but it wasn’t like she would rapidly age into a decrepit hag if she gave up her swords. She was merely paused in time and watching as an observer more than most or gaining wisdom for when she continued the natural flow of life and time. This whole night just seemed designed to put her in a foul mode.’At least it can’t get worse than this.’, Jiang thought in exasperation.

She cringed at the booming voice, her eyes widening as her gaze slowly moved away from the broken ceiling to the direction of the two figures that had decided to join in the ranks. She prayed for it not to be them, not being able to stand to be in either of their company very long because of their crude nature and annoying habits. If she didn’t know better, she would blame them for stalking but it seemed fate just kept putting her in their path or visa versa. It tended to happen at some point though with all immortals, meeting one another that is since they had nothing but optimal chances to do so. If they hadn’t met, then usually they had at least heard stories of each other and knew of each other’s existence in that matter. A groan left her lips as she finally got a view of the demons, cursing under her breath and debating on if she really wanted to deal with them and the mess they usually left in their wake. Jiang knew she could slip away and none would be the wiser. She wasn’t a hero and more than once she had avoided the two in a game of ultimate hide and seek, one she had never agreed to. She couldn’t in good conscience leave things as they were though.

It was her guests that would suffer and if a few hadn’t lost their lives already it would be a miracle. She hated dealing with the undead heathens left behind, not just because they were a pain but she felt a deep sadness for them. No one should have to fall prey and become something so grotesque. She gave a sigh, gracefully taking gliding steps towards the two, preparing not only to defend the heroes that had decided to address the demons but fight alongside the masked individuals.Hey Cretins! It is my distinct pleasure to inform you both that you were not invited to this soirée nor are either of you welcome so if you would both kindly remove yourselves and crawl back into the pit from whence you came, that would be most appreciated. I do not have patience to deal with your chaos and irritation.”, Jiang practically growled, her swords at the ready since she doubted it would be that easy to sway these two.’What did I even do to deserve this?’, she thought to herself, reflecting on the mess this whole gala had become.
Sounds like a good plan. Decided to make a human female for now.

Jiang didn’t even have a chance to react to the sound of shattering glass or even the chaos erupting onto the dance floor as she felt herself pulled against a strong chest, arms protectively curled around her small frame and defended from harm. For a moment, her vision was just filled with the material of his shirt blocking the view of everything she could still hear around them and she felt safe, comforted even in a way she hadn’t let herself be for a long time. When he did finally release her, it was clear more than just their dance had come to a conclusion as he had stated. She closed her eyes and centered herself, taking a deep breath as rage boiled beneath her calm exterior. Not only had her evening been ruined, seeing Lev hurt in her stead and the disrespect the Hand showed in the face of an ancient spirit that deserved to be honored for gracing this plane of existence with its presence was enough of a reason to turn her blade up in resistance to the injustice. It was a rule she gave herself not to tangle too much with these low lives and they usually avoided her since you can’t return life without a soul but they were about to learn of their mistakes. They couldn’t have known they were crossing her path but it was no excuse in her opinion.

Her eyes opened slowly, locking onto Lev’s own as he commented about pay causing the corner of her lips to tease at the hint of a smile. ”I see, then it seems I have no choice but to assist.”, Jiang answered as if that hadn’t been her plan all along. Her hand went to her hip as if she was grasping air before a sheathed sword materialized in the palm of her hand and as the blade was pulled, her previous appearance fell away. Bound dark hair transformed to light freely flowing tresses, eyes different shades of brown now hid behind shadows as her mask took over the gentle face, and her true outfit for the evening on full display. She drew her second blade before stepping up to her dance partner's side and spoke in her own mellifluous melodic voice, ”Thank you for your protection. I will make sure to repay the kindness you have shown.”

She rushed forward, harshly jamming her elbow into the gut of the first ninja that dared to get in her way before blocking another from landing an attack with her free arm. Jiang added strength behind her kick, slamming her foot into the attackers knee and hearing a snap before they fell. She turned her attention to the ninja that was no longer doubled over from her initial attack, spinning out of the way of a blade and quickly grabbing their wrist to twist the weapon from their hand before pulling their arm backwards and stabbing them before they had a chance to remove themselves from her hold. Jiang scoffed, letting the ninja drop before making calmly her way through the crowd and viciously slicing through any obstacles in her way as she worked to defend the spirit though it seemed that they were not alone in assistance, someone upon their back and others joining into the fray. It was frustrating that so many of the Hand had decided to appear, making her wonder what their plans were for such a magnificent creature and she was sure it was nothing good. She found herself stopped again, taking a moment to dodge and fight her chosen enemies but once a group was at her feet in defeat, the spirit was gone. ”Where are you?”, she muttered to herself.

As if answering her question, a masked man spoke up and instantly made her want to either face palm at the obviously false name or laugh at the stupidity of worrying about property damage at a time like this. If someone really were worried about it, why even appear back in human form? She could have sworn she sensed an ancient ambiance from the Lion since one of the same recognizes another but now Jiang was starting to doubt herself. Perhaps this man could only transform into a large creature? ’I guess there is a generous amount of physical appeal if there is a spirit attached to him. Perhaps strength is most important to the spirit if it is a host situation. Lions are known for strength and stability after all. It could just as easily be nothing and more of a situation like mine where they assist only or simply a transformation. Such a pity if that were the case…’, she thought to herself. ”Do not worry. I cannot see how the fault will lay with you in this situation though this is hardly appropriate timing to be worrying about such things.” Jiang stated before turning her blade behind her, stabbing backwards into her enemy as if to prove a point. ”Still, it is a pleasure to meet you.”, she added, giving a deep bow of respect before moving into a defensive stance now that she had made it to the man’s side and the prize the Hand was trying to claim.

She felt a boost of confidence and accomplishment at the fact she had managed to make Leon flabbergasted or at least speechless if even for a moment. Something about his attitude just irked her and made her want to fight or compete with the attractive male now behind her. He hadn’t really done anything wrong and most of his arguments had been pretty valid but still that is how she felt. It sucked getting off on the wrong foot but that was the nature of things when sabotaging a first mission, it didn’t really make for easy friendships. ”Now, about ‘Strong Boy’… I’m sure you noticed multiple things…off about him. It was pretty obvious he was lying from the beginning but I just thought I would ease any worry you might have and say that he doesn’t have any powers. A part of my ability is to sense others with power.”, Nilin stated, glancing at her companion and feeling a bit nervous talking about herself or showing how weak she was to others. It was something she was probably going to have to get used to.

She sighed before continuing to speak while they continued their search.”I have the power to mentally link with another person and copy their powers and make them my own. For example, right now I have your power which I am assuming has to do with luck. I am not sure if this makes us both lucky or if we are passing it back and forth so to speak. It’s why I wanted to warn you just in case it fails you since I’m not sure how this works. I don’t obtain skill when a power is copied and I’m not always in control. Yours is one of the very few that has been a relief to handle and use effectively without training.”

Leon was still left a tad staggered from Nilin’s sudden backbone, but was mostly recovered, his saunter back in his steps as they made their way upstairs. Before she spoke up, however, something caught his eye; it looked like Strong Boy was ditching them, if his view from upstairs through a window had anything to say about it...Not to mention the gaggle of goons he was approaching, clearly eager to make a getaway. Without so much as a word, Leon pulled his phone out and snapped a quick photo of Sam and his cohorts. Luckily enough, he had the flash turned off too, though he can’t remember why, but it kept those below from being none the wiser.

His attention was dragged from the situation down there as Nilin began to talk of ‘Strong Boy’, and more interestingly to him, her power. ”...Wow, that’s a lot to take in. One hell of a power, if you ask me.” He seemed almost...Impressed? Or at the very least, intrigued. However, he gave a shrug when she began discussing how the shared use of the power might work. ”Who knows? Your guess is as good as mine. But it shouldn’t matter too much; if we’re both lucky, and we’re both trying to do the same thing, the result’ll be the same. Right?” He had a smile on his face, but the look of his eyes gave way to his true feelings. Were we really working towards the same thing? But the gaze didn’t linger for long. ”Oh, and I’m all too happy to be of service. If we really can double up on my luck, we’ll be quite the power couple, huh?” His smile shifted to a smirk, imagining what two of himself would be capable of. Oooh, this could be great…

She was actually surprised to find he sounded impressed or at least his tone suggested as such when he commented on her powers. It was only for a fleeting moment though before he continued speaking, sharing his thoughts on how both using luck at the same time would work if they had the same goal. His words made her feel heavy with guilt though, even more so when their eyes met. The smile he held was so very different from his eyes which spoke questions he didn’t bother to utter from his lips or maybe deep down he didn’t really want to know. Nilin really had no clue what to say to Leon about it. However, he ended up making everything shift and seem lighter instantaneously with that smirk and off the wall comment about being a power couple. ”Oh yes, I can see the headlines now. Fortune and his Lady Luck.”, she teased playfully before giving a soft smile. ”Honestly, I can’t imagine what double the luck would look like during a fight. You might not be wrong on that being a winning combination.”

Moving on, they kept their trek through the second floor, mainly finding a whole lot of nothing….Until they came across the office, the old-fashioned bolt-lock having been tampered with and leaving the door wide open, showing off the emergency exit. For a moment, there’s a tense pause between the two of them, as Leon could easily head towards the exit, or even just point out how strange it was that the office was broken into…

But then, all he did was shrug.

”I’m not sure about you, Nilin, but I’m pretty sick of tonight, and there hasn’t been any real sign of the vigilante girl up on this floor.” He said, as if blatantly ignoring the evidence before him. “If you’re up for it…Once we’ve finished calling off our hunt and handling the debriefing crap, I was planning to visit a restaurant that opened this week. I’d be all too happy to have you along.”

She almost felt her jaw drop, not only because of all the evidence before them being practically ignored which meant no pursuit would take place but had he just…asked her on a date? Nilin found herself staring at Leon far longer than she should have, opening her mouth a few times before bailing and biting her lip instead. This…was not something she had expected since they had been somewhat hostile with each other downstairs and it seemed like him and sparkles were getting along so well. Maybe he was just offering to her first? Perhaps it was actually a group thing and it just sounded like a date? That made more sense right? ”It does seem like a bust. I doubt we could catch up now even if we tried and SSV could be out of costume by now. As for dinner….I, um, I’m technically free after this so I guess getting a bite to eat wouldn’t hurt, if I’m really welcome that is.”

It was really that easy. He honestly wasn’t sure she’d agree to it (one of the few times in his life he’s felt some uncertainty), but her acceptance was a very pleasant surprise. ”Of course you are. In that case….It’s a date.”

And thus, without missing a beat, he gave her a wink and began his way back the way they came; time to skip town on this miserable first mission.
