That would actually work out well for Serena too, being corpsman, and her interests in criminology. I should probably add that into her background a bit too, I think I mentioned it but it was short. I could possibly even recently station her in Antarctica if you're still thinking of using that.. I'm sure she'd be game if it was a take or leave it sort of thing offered by the CIA. going from one of the most arid regions to one of the most desolate.. yeah, she'd fucking love that, but she'd do it..

@AtrophyNot a thing. Very well thought out and I like how you incorporated her in with The Red Sail. Very nice. You can move her over any time and feel free to post in the IC if you like. That's three of us so far so we can start any time you like. The plot will be very loose in the beginning so there is time for a few others to join (I'd like about three, and there are a few who are still to post a CS so we should be about there). But there's time to post a few set up posts for characters to get a bit more situated if you like. Feel free to use The Red Sail and that outfit as you like, but if you have anything pertaining to Fontaine in particular in regards to decision making or major plot ideas please hit me in a PM first, but I like it very much so far so feel free to carry on if you like. I have a few more posts up my sleeve for my character as well so there is ample time now to do so if you wish.

@idlehands Yes, that would definitely be Patience. I'm sure she will be extremely useful, and she is definitely a team player.. as long as she is getting paid.. I'm hoping she's going to be a hoot. Definitely hoping this is as 18+ as it says it is.. she's definitely down and dirty.. and thank you for being so Kind. I generally tend to leave a lot of room for possibilities when I do characters like these and I will pull a lot from the group in doing so. She will mesh very well with whatever avenues are present at any given time.

I'm sure her gambling and drinking habits will slow her down a bit and keep her grounded too. Chips rise and they fall, but they usually fall more than they rise.. sorta like Patience.. can't keep her off her back sometimes..

@RedVII I will go ahead and slide her over, and I'll add a bit more info in her sheet too. She'll most likely be a Saint Denis girl, city life will most likely give her a good bit of revenue between whore'n and pickin' pockets. I'm definitely getting a bit of a kleptomania kind of vibe from her too.. She cant keep her fingers off of things, just can't seem to help herself... she just likes the pretty stuff..

@Atrophy that's exactly the sort of thing I had in mind when I created the system. You don't have to be so in depth about things or stick to it entirely, and you may use it at your discretion, at whatever intensity you like. If it seems a bit harsh, whatever the outcome, just dial it back to whatever you think would be suitable.

As these characters aren't exactly of the lustering brand, I wanted to make sure that it was not forced into a post, but rather guided a bit more blindly, or haphazard. I just feel like sometimes its easy to write a character who just breezes through everything, and I wanted a more whimsical but still gritty adventure. If that makes sense (I may actually be crazy..).

Personality:
Sarcastic, witty, and generally a glowing joy.. at least that was Serena prior to receiving her injury in Syria. Serena is still sarcastic and witty, but she is a bit more cynical. She is seasoned and strong willed, with a cat's curiosity and just a touch of wisdom from her years. She has lost a lot and often struggles with bouts of excessive guilt, the dirty fingerprints left from traumatic experiences in the field. She is a bit of a lush and likes to "have a good time", perhaps a bit more than is healthy. She has a head built and governed by logic, an equal skeptic for both organized religion and the paranormal.
Serena is a chain-smoker, and heavy coffee drinker, alcoholic. She tends to steer clear of coffee shops and hipster kids finding them to be repulsive, and she is easily annoyed. Perturbed by the mundane and remedial, she often loses focus due to boredom or a lack of sufficient stimuli to keep her adequately occupied. Serena is very independent and in no way tries to leverage her injury, and is highly self sufficient.
She seems to prefer short flings and one night stands over the long winded false adorations and pretenses of a sustainable relationship. She has terrible taste in men, and her decision-making skills in this area of life are less than desirable. Two abortions, one of which occurred when she was 17 that the family still doesn't talk about, and the other more recently only several months ago.
She is a blunt speaker, and more often than not, frank enough to clear a table in remarkable timing. She spends half of her time eating shitty Vietnamese takeout and binge-watching television series on Amazon prime, and the other half in Kickboxing gyms and cheap Brazilian jiu-jitsu classes, but mainly just to keep a taut belly and maintain the shape of her ass. Serena also sees a shrink, whom she talks with on a biweekly basis who also keeps tabs on her and her affinity for hydrocodone medication and alcoholism. Doc can sometimes manage to get her to squeal a bit about her nightmares and some things she had seen in Syria, how often she was having them and that sort of thing. She's been pushing Serena to try some hypnotherapy, but she has been more than reluctant for fear of what might come out in regressions. She has a small townhome in the Brooklyn area. It is rather bare and she lacks in the decorative department, A good thing really because she has grown a bit untidy in the past year or so.
Her refrigerator is also mostly barren, save for an ever-present large jar of pickle spears, mayonnaise, and sixer or twelve pack of domestic beer, and the occasional pack of eggs and no less than two or three takeout containers that she will never eat. Freezer is mostly TV dinners, lots of Marie Calendar's and Bob Evan's, freezer burnt bags of broccoli and tin foil packs of hamburger meat marked with only the best intentions. Usually a half gallon of whiskey in the cabinets, along with saltines and several boxes of Hamburger Helper and a few cans of tuna. She also just started making payments on a black 2018 Dodge Charger with two fat red racing stripes. Figured she'd learn to work on it some, kind of like a side project. She hasn't done much with it yet, and probably wont be messing with it any time soon, but she did buy the extensive owner's manual holding down her cocktail table along with a few spent beer bottles. She does choose to smoke outside however, possibly the only sign of decency she has left.
When she isn't being a total recluse in front of the TV or at the local Kickboxing gym she can usually be found with her friend Cindy, taking full advantage of low effort night life bliss, usually some dive bar shithole dotting a street corner, with cheap drinks, and even cheaper women. Guess it made them both feel better about their selves in some form or other. They both seemed to suffer from the same social afflictions in the relationship department, so you know what they say, "birds of a feather"..

Family, Friends & Associates:

Serena's parents (names undisclosed) both still live in a quaint suburb in upstate New York. Her father was a Syrian immigrant who came to the US in the mid seventies, picking up trade work as a jeweler, and went on to own his own store by the mid eighties. He soon married to an attractive American girl from the Bronx. No other immediate family to speak of in America, or Syria.
She doesn't have a lot in the way of friends, and her relationships are sporadic, and are usually tragically detrimental. She keeps in contact with a handful of friends from West Point, but usually only by phone or social media. Cindy Grimes, and local Brooklyn girl would be her only face to face friend. She lived in the same neighborhood and they met at the local kickboxing gym. She is not married and doesn't seem to wish to be, nor does she have any desire for children.

Fears: Not being "good enough", obsolescence. Serena has always felt like that if she fails it's because she didn't try hard enough, or do enough, and that all fault is always on her shoulders. An unrelenting tug in the back of her mind about what she witnessed in 2017, and an inner fear that it might have been real and not some fraudulent fog conjured from her imagination as a result of being in shock.

BACKGROUND:

Serena grew up with her parents in a small apartment in the South Bronx, New York City. She was very active in grade school, running track and playing for both the JV and Varsity Lacrosse teams, which she later continued at West Point. Her father, a jeweler from Syria, worked very hard along with her American mother to provide her with the avenues with which to pursue her interests in a military career. She buckled down and made good grades, and later joined the Navy as a Corpsman fresh out of West Point in 2012. Naturally having a background in languages being a first generation Syrian-American, she was destined to find herself deployed to Syria in 2014 during Operation Inherent Resolve, and spent the next 3 years there. She has spent time in several areas including a good bit of time in Aleppo at a medical facility, providing medical support during helo-transports from the city.
She was later reassigned to Timber Sycamore, a program headed the CIA. It was formed in 2015, and ISIL began to fortify the city and its surrounding areas with bunkers and a network of tunnels. By June 2017, Raqqa remained the only major Syrian city fully under ISIL control and was, therefore, its effective center of operations. With a large number of foreign fighters, Raqqa has been a planning center for terrorist attacks against European cities. The majority of her deployment was with marine units as a corpsman field medic. She lost a lot of good people during this short span of time. Some were the very same she had helped train not even a year and a half prior. Young people, soldiers, girls. She spent a lot of time in LZs providing tourniquets and doing sutures, dispensing adrenaline to those who were worse off. She had seen so much that she had grown distant and passive, but none the less highly efficient in the field. She had seen combat over a half a dozen times by 2017, and she had spent a lot of brass as well. It all became very Cat and Mouse in her head.
Sometimes she could swear that she could see the souls of those that were lost most traumatically, but she would dismiss it as stress or fatigue. The visions of the apparitions either passed or faded over time, but she was always reminded of them for they remained within her dreams. Luckily for her sleep was rarely on the menu while deployed. Yet another possible reasoning for these apparitions. In 2017 she was injured in the line of duty while deployed with a regiment of the 11th Marines Expeditionary Unit, and received a Bronze Star and Purple Heart as well as an Honorable discharge, ending her military Career.
Not wanting to stop there Serena then applied to the Central Intelligence Agency, with whom she had already developed a good report with during her time with Timber Sycamore in Syria. She is an extremely determined and headstrong individual. Her merits and behavior under extreme conditions in combat were weighed and measured and she was accepted shortly after as a para-military operative/field analyst for the CIA on March 23rd, 2018. They were somewhat reluctant, and only her after she had recovered enough from her wounds to begin training again.

She is still a fledgling operative, and has a long way to go but she shows a lot of potential. She excels in several areas, language being an obvious given, but she is extremely resourceful, cool headed, and can be persuasive, a trait most likely acquired by trying to chat up the wounded under fire. She has also recently shown to have a general knack for criminology.

Side Note:
During the mission in which she sustained her injury, she was found to be incoherently mumbling and seemed to be in a severe state of shock. She was reported by a marine, to have mentioned witnessing a shadow-person or figure, or at least in that description, which she referred to as death in Arabic. She also suffered convulsions and seizure activity during this time.
This was not mentioned in her military records for fear of mar, feeling it would be unnecessary given her imminent discharge for her injury. Paranormal mentions do not nor have they ever looked good on records. It was however noted later at a base hospital by a medical surgeon, but it was written off as severe shock trauma and managed to remain off of her official records.

The manifestation had not ever been present before 2017, and only showed itself briefly, exactly at the point just before her injury. It was a black, veil-like mass, that soon formed a more solid figure. It looked as though it was adorned with small glittering trinkets, gold in nature. It's eyes were also fiery golden in nature, and not a sound could be heard, only intense reverberation as the entire surrounding area seemed to vibrate with resentment. This materialization of a solid figure form was very brief, and dissipated shortly thereafter, resembling a very similar black smoke produced by ordinance. Possibly a Jinn.

Jinn (Arabic: الجن‎, al-jinn), also Romanized as Djinn or Anglicized as genies (with the more broad meaning of spirits or demons, depending on source), are supernatural creatures in early pre-Islamic Arabian and later Islamic mythology and theology. Since jinn are neither innately evil nor innately good, Islam was able to adapt spirits from other religions during its expansion. Jinn are not a strictly Islamic concept; rather, they may represent pagan beliefs integrated into Islam.
Besides the jinn, Islam acknowledges the existence of demons (Shayāṭīn). The lines between demons and jinn are blurred, since malevolent jinn are also called shayāṭīn. However both Islam and non-Islamic scholarship generally distinguishes between angels, jinn and demons (shayāṭīn) as three different types of spiritual entities in Islamic traditions. The jinn are distinguished from demons in that they can be both evil and good, while genuine demons are exclusively evil. Some academic scholars assert that demons are related to monotheistic traditions and jinn to polytheistic traditions.

The CIA somehow got word of this despite it not being in her official records. They have taken a quiet interest in Serena, and more importantly her description and what she had seen. They are also privately contacting her doctor and imploring her to push for hypnosis regression under the guise of therapy. She is being considered for Delta Green, an undisclosed team centered on more paranormal type criteria.

Serena has a gunshot wound in her right shoulder which still bothers her at times. An enemy fired a shot that hit Fatima's rifle before the round and a bit of shrapnel tore through her shoulder and doing a bit of damage to her shoulder blade before exiting through her back. Most of the shrapnel was recovered and she has made a near full recovery, but it will most likely bother her for the rest of her life.

This also leads to her nonphysical weakness which is to say that she is often on pain medication, and has been prone to self medication via vehement amounts of hard liquor and opioids, and the occasional bit of marijuana. She usually does well as long as she stays busy, but the wagon has always been a rickety rig. Something she has maintained fairly well since her being drafted by the CIA. She is determined and extremely strong willed, so much so that it could be considered to be detrimental at times.

She spends a lot of time at the gym, perhaps more than her unit peers do. She does kickboxing regularly, and has a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu class that she has enrolled in locally. She is active and works hard to stay fit for her unit, and also to maintain the shape of her ass..

BACKGROUND:

Serena grew up in LA with her parents and her older brother, and a younger sister. Her brother, Alphonso was nine years older than her, and her sister Elena was two years younger. Her family life was often disrupted by gang activity. Her brother was constantly getting into trouble with the law, stealing cars and doing various other things like that. Several members of her family were involved with the Surenos gang, and it caused their lives to be anything but normal. Her older brother and two uncles would later be faced with hard murder charges in 1999, and her brother and eldest uncle were both sentenced to life in prison. Her brother will be eligible for parole in 2025. Serena made it a point then to be nothing like them and showed a strong interest in pursuing a career in law enforcement. She was well accustomed to seeing them at her home by the time she got out of high school.

She immediately enrolled in college at California State in Dominguez Hills the following year in 2007. She obtained her Bachelors' degree-Criminal Justice Administration, majoring in Criminology, and more specifically in gangs and adolescent subcultures in 2011. She finished these studies at the top of her class and excelled notably in the Gang related course studies. She then went on to complete the LAPD Academy the very next year in 2012. 840 grueling hours of intense training and conditioning. It was all intensive and strenuous but Serena managed to persevere and push on. She was described as "tough as nails, that girl.." by nearly all the instructors. They gave her a hard time because they all knew that she definitely had it in her. That "Who told you you could be a cop" (Video link) type rhetoric, but she always took it standing up.

Not wanting to stop there she applied for the LAPD SWAT Unit (Special Weapons and Tactics)in 2017 after she spent five years with the gang task force in the LAPD. she did a lot for the task force in a short amount of time, and was recognized several times during these years. After applying, Serena underwent several tests during the selection process, totaling in nineteen weeks of hard training. She had to pass a rigorous physical fitness test and psychological evaluation, plus a firearms test to demonstrate her proficiency in firearm usage and knowledge of weapon mechanics. She was also interviewed by a review board several times, and underwent an extensive background check. It was obvious that her family's impact was her driving motivation and they deemed her an acceptable candidate. Her degree and specialized major were merited her as being a useful candidate who should be utilized. Her minors in Psychology were also noted as well as her being bilingual, and this would make her suitable for Negotiations. During her interview they asked her "Are you comfortable with this? Do you think you can handle this?" to which she replied "Absolutely. I’m doing it.”, they recalled. She even managed to do the hundred yard dummy pull in good time, and it was comparable to few of her male counterparts. "She's small but she packs a lotta heat.",
Since then her peers and unit members have gotten used to having a woman on the team, and said that she was often good to keep around. Her approaches to solving problems were "very unorthodox", but she sure knows how to think outside the box. She is a quick thinker and dedicated to the job, and she's "not afraid of trying something new". She is definitely determined to do whatever it takes to be there, that was for certain. "A real firecracker, that one. Don't let that smile fool ya." Unlike previous attempts for females to be incorporated into these roles Serena is generally accepted and thought fairly high of by her peers, deeming her to be an adequate asset and not just a pretty smile. She always pulls her weight and goes the extra mile. She'd stick her neck out for anybody on the unit.

FAMILY&FRIENDS:

Serena's family life has been marred greatly, rampant with serious and devious gang activity. This has brought nothing but turmoil to her family, and shame. Her two uncles on her father's side were prominent members in the Surenos gang, one having what is referred to as a "shot-caller" status. They we're indicted on murder charges in 1999, along with her elder brother Alphonso whom they had also corrupted. His role in these crimes tore her father and mother to pieces, creating a huge rift in the family. One of her uncles managed to get cleared of all charges but it was obvious that he was also guilty. Her other uncle is now serving Life in San Quentin with no option for parole, and is still very much active within the Sureno gang, even from behind bars. Her brother is also in San Quentin and wont be eligible for parole until 2025, serving 25 years for the same murder charge.
She keeps in contact with her mother and father, whom she keeps a close eye on in LA. She also keeps tabs on her sister, whom is currently attending Los Angeles Community College. Serena is constantly worried that she wont stay on the right path so she calls her often. Her father is not on speaking terms with the rest of the family, who are dually not thrilled about Serena's career choices. It could be stated that they aren't exactly up for small talk either. She has one friend that she spends a good bit of time with. Cindy Chavez, whom she see on a weekly basis, usually going out for drinks, girl's nights, etc.

WEAKNESSES/FEARS:

Weaknesses:

"It's a man's world."- Serena is on the smaller side and isn't quite as strong physically as the other counterparts in her unit. She has a small frame and is equally limited by this but what she lacks in strength she makes up for with her extreme determination. She might fail, but she'll go down fighting. She's gotta lotta heart.
Serena also displays extremely detrimental behaviors, and often takes extreme risks. She is so strong-headed and persistent that it sometimes clouds her judgement. She also has an inferiority complex, and displays behavior patterns commonly referred to as Napoleonic in nature, characterized by overly-aggressive or domineering social behavior, such as lying about earnings, and carries the implication that such behavior is compensatory for the subject's physical or social shortcomings. In psychology, the Napoleon complex is regarded as a derogatory social stereotype.

Fears: Not being "good enough". Obsolescence, inferiority. Serena has always felt like that if she fails it's because she didn't try hard enough, or do enough, and that all fault is always on her shoulders.

PARANORMAL ENCOUNTER

In her second year on the swat force she was dispatched with the team on a high risk operation deep in gang territory. The raid was conducted jointly by DEA and LAPD. A tip had been received about high gang activity and possibly human or sex trafficking in the area. She was initially only going as a negotiator with the group having a natural background in gang activity, but she was later utilized on the breeching of a building occupied by a Vietnamese gang TRG or Tiny Rascals Gang. The unit pushed in on the grounds and discovered a low muffled sound resonated from within when they got close to the door. Serena was next to last in line. While they waited for the go ahead to breech and shrill cry came from inside. It sounded female, and the front was breeched immediately by a breeching hammer and the team rushed in. Blood covered the walls as the entered the domicile. Three assailants then presented themselves from multiple angles within the main hallway. All three were brandishing firearms, one of which was a MAC-10. All three were immediately dispatched, the first two by the first team members in and the last was dispatched by Lt. Gomez herself when she discharged a short burst of rounds, hitting the assailant with 3 rounds killing him instantly. She kept herself calm and collected and continued to sweep along with the team. Officer Bradshaw had taken two rounds in the vest as well and fell from point to gather his breath. Once the top floor had been cleared and a radio playing ethnic rap was dialed down the muffled sound could still be heard. They made there way to the last door on the hall that led to the basement level. The door was nudged free and swung quietly open. The incoherent mumbling loudened and a stench of fetid meat rose from below, and the sound soon could be made out that it was some sort of mindless chanting. The smell was rancid and thick. They quietly moved down the stairs and continued to clear the home.
Upon hitting the landing on the bottom level they seen the horror below. Four dead teenage girls were lying exactly in alignment with the cardinal directions. There throats were all cut, one of which to the point that the spine could be seen from the front. One was also missing a long strip of flesh from the inner thigh. In the middle of them there were four naked perps chanting, and they were covered all over in ritualistic symbols and blood. A fifth one stood in front of a massive altar facing the team. He turned and threw a piece of meaty flesh onto the woodstove and the searing could be heard from across the room. The smoke bellowed and the stench along with it. He turned back and dug his own eyes out with a knife right in front of the team, right before rushing towards them and the rest rose to follow him, and they were all dispatched immediately by the team. It is unclear just who shot where.. It was noted that the five assailants from below were on the short side, so much though that it seemed like grotesque deformity, and while their bodies were adorned with tattoos they were completely void any hair. Their skin, thought to be covered in blood, actually had skin that was red in nature. They were drenched in blood, but their actual skin was red in hue. It was a sickening site to see, all of it.
There were bowl's of meat and flesh, organs. The stuff was everywhere.. Strange symbols, small like letting covered the walls. "Some straight voodoo lookin shit" The shrine appeared to be human bones, Stones and some wood, candles and big rods of incense all smoldering and wafting. There was a woodstove nestled in the middle of it, like the shrine had been built around it. It was enough to make Serna and two other officers to vomit. What had been thought to be a sex trafficking ring was much more than that. Serena could have sworn that she had seen something looming above the shrine. A black mass, swirling and writhing in contempt. It glared at her just before having to remove herself from the bottom floor. The room was suddenly thick and she couldn't breath, the stench of burning flesh and wafting clouds of incense permeated the basement floor and were lit by beams of light that shone through tiny windows nestled in the foundations . It was all very straining and intense, and it all became more than she could take in. Stifling.
The scene was later described by the first teams on the scene as being horrendous, and the levels of mutilation witnessed were "unparalleled" in nature. The debriefing was lengthy and strenuous as well. Psychiatrists were appointed to oversee most every team member. This was some deep shit. One member quit three weeks later, and then another within a month. These people or whatever they were, was later discovered, or at least in appearance to the Tcho-Tcho. The Tcho-Tcho People are a group of tribes of near-human Asian natives. They can be found in Burma, The Anderman Isles, Tibet and Malaysia. They are genetically from humans, they are notably smaller, have livid red skin, and other marked physiological differences. Legends point to prehistoric genetic engineering of pre-human ancestors by the Great Old Ones Zhar and Lloigor. These legends purport they "grew from the 'seeds' of the Twin Obscenities"). This intel was all pulled later on from leads in obscure mythologies. The ritualistic nature of the scene was attributed to blood magic, possibly used in hopes of dispelling trouble from the law or other forces that would thwart the gang's illegal endeavors such as drug trafficking and other crimes.
Talking about the incident in any context outside of the unit, or even amongst themselves was strictly forbidden, not that any of them really wanted to talk about what they had witnessed to begin with. Serena is still required to check in with her Psychiatrist Angela Baker and make a full check in appointment once a month.

A SWAT team may also use battering rams, breaching hammers, halogen tools, ballistic shields, and stun grenades. @Leidenschaft Thanks. I have a feeling that I wont be rushing through this one. Now that @Dervish has mentioned ATF it seems to be in accordance with what I was wanting to go for. I was also thinking of a possible military background in Syria 2014-2017, as a possible linguistics and field training officer for the female Kurds. American born Syrian descent, naturally speaking the language. Seasoned field operator, but green in this sort of department Possibly a corpsman. Navy, ATF, Columbia, there's a few avenues I'll have to research, but I am looking forward to the work.
