out at the Ren Faire. Also very tired this week. Probably releated.

Lately been having a growing interest in a MMO Isekai roleplay. Although, don't particularly want to set stuff up alone. Feel free to poke about it, or pitch something ye may have in mind!

4th of July is here. Saturday night may be more free.
I want it to be based canonly. But with no Cast Characters. But I want to figure the mechanics out. Seems it could be based without Party-Pension, just unity.
Tentative interest because MMO isekai itch. Especially more so with none of the cast being involved, leaving the world open to an increased fair playing field.
Once mechanics are pieced together may be more interested. Especially when it comes to summons (that have combat & support abilities). Or whether or not to just remove skills and make it basically just a straightforward combat game?
Elian Zefra: Healer here. I'd love to go for a small-group dungeon. Any level up to A. I'm at the main guild hall. Come find me!
Rathello: I'm in. I can tank, already at the guild hall.
Claudia Solaria von Galatriel: Oh, the timing is quite serendipitous, I am looking for a party. I will make my way there posthaste.
Goibniu was honestly surprised by how quickly he would end up getting responses. Probably because 'Jaiden' the player was used to playing a few older MMOs with a lot less populace and activity. He hadn't expected things to fill up so soon, that he would basically end up with a whole party in seconds, practically! He would quickly start putting together a 'group chat', and labeled it simply 'Dungeon Delving'. He'd invite the first handful, rather the first three who had replied too him.
Group chats, weren't quite the same as a 'team' chat. Simply in that, one didn't need to be in a team to join one. People who were invited to a group chat, could also invite other persons to join even without a party leader's permission technically and once a team was disbanded, the group chat would still exist and function by messaging all members linked too it.
Goibniu_The_Waylander, would be the player name floating above the player looking for a group. Those who would approach would see a large sphynx avatar. Sphynx's were a purchasable skin for centaur races, which replaced the lower horse body instead with a lion one. The top half of the body was that of a human man with a dark complexion, and thick black wick dreads going to the back of his neck. His general frame was somewhere around middle 8ft to lower 9ft tall or so, and generally 'bulky'. He could possibly be confused for barbarian give the hefty and strong looking frame.
Although his clothes and equipment including a smith's apron, a cog looking broach, and some form of metallic esoteric dial on his waist would likely denote him toward a crafter focus, and likely a magic class.
It may be noticeable, that the avatar's expression remained generally neutral. It didn't seem to have the 'face rigging' set up like most VR immersive characters. Either that, or the player didn't express a lot of emotion in general.
Goibniu's mic, would shift over to the group chat so only those directly invited could hear him. It seemed polite, to not continuously drone out in general chat and flood it as much. It would probably be uncanny for some to see his lips move, but no sound come out at all during the in game group chat though.
"Oi! Goibniu, yeah?" she called, waving one hand to attract his attention. "I'm Elian. Let's find a tank and get rolling, shall we?"
"Yeah, that's me. Once we get a tank, should look at the boards for a mine or cavern. Hoping to pick some metals up." Goibniu would pause, and clear his throat.
"-And don't get in the way of it. Not entirely sure about the adventuring type yet, rather being out with them myself. But whatever gets me closer to studying artifacts." This line would be cut off with a small snicker, and a mutter of: "I hope that was good-" Which probably wasn't meant to be picked up over the mike. As Jaiden was trying to play into character, and wasn't the best at it.
"Yo!" The big man called out cheerily, "Looking for a tank, right? Rath, good to meet ya."
"Yeah, nice to meet you too!" "Er... yeah, welcome to the group. Let's try not to get ourselves killed at there." Goibniu's voice would try to maintain the gruff, and somewhat serious tone too it. Although he clearly slipped up at the greeting, as even with a voice modulator it sounded rather upbeat in the bass voice tone. Goibniu would take a moment to look over Rath as they joined the group. He was fairly certain that Rathello was some form of Barbarian, but they wouldn't know until they officially sent requests to join a party/team. Still given the equipment on the two. Higher level dungeons, definitely seemed like an option with the growing party average. Better than being stuck with F rank at least.
Reading over Claudia's message, definitely brought to mind someone who was in character deeply so. Goibniu's player couldn't live up to match that, or at least wouldn't take the time to be so eloquent on the matter. But, it did make him feel slightly more comfortable to keep trying the 'roleplay' aspect out. It was still rather, left field for him.
Goibniu would look Claudia up and down. It seemed pretty clear that they were a human paladin by the armor, and by the mentioning their a split between a healer and a tank. Leading toward Goibniu, overacting and letting out a 'tch' noise similar to a click of the tongue. He had the avatar use an 'emote' option, which lead to a very drastic head tilt and exaggerated scowl. Before the expression would snap right back to neutral.
Goibniu, I presume? My name is Claudia. I am not a dedicated healer or tank, though I can somewhat heal adequately. I am rather good at dealing with damage, however."
"Your guess is correct." "Seeing as you tank hits and heal, you'll be able to save yourself in a pinch I supposed. And frankly, the more healing the better. As long you don't plan to deal damage on us." Goibniu would start, before immediately turning it toward a bit of over-correction: "Sorry if that's a bit too harsh, I can tone it down a notch."
"A material you say? While forests are more the area of Elves and woodworkers. The recommendation, is... grateful. Depending on the material type, may be eager to pursue it. If it was a land abandoned by dwarves or grand metalworkers my interest will be greatly inclined. Then again there is a certain elf I need an eye out for..."
"The one with the most experience should likely take the helm as lead. Unfortunately, that wouldn't happen to myself, for now. But should there be any tools or features of engineering, I hold no illusions that I won't pursue it first." It was also an excuse, just to make sure that if the dungeons were locked by the leader's level... that he wouldn't have to worry about it. Otherwise he'd end up stuck with Rank F dungeons, with clearly a bunch of higher level players. He didn't know how much higher in rank yet, but definitely more than him at the bottom of the rung!
"Perhaps a Rank C area or quest, to know each other's... skill sets." He would recommend as a general middle ground. He probably wouldn't die instantly to Rank C level threats. Maybe close to it though.
Goibniu would look at the Death Knight. Death knight's were generally a mix of tank & dps, mostly through debilitating a target in other games. Poisons, lifesap, summoning undead pets in certain games.
While Rangers, were usually primarily DPS, & maybe Support roles. Though, he couldn't guarantee the classes function the same. Since it was different games. Seeing as they could help with traps... and honestly, Goibniu would enjoy trap collection or breaking down more components he'd lean toward Ranger personally. So far the group had a dedicated tank, a dedicate healer, a hybrid tank/healer, but no real confirmed strict DPS. Goibniu didn't count himself yet, since he was very new to actual adventuring.
"I'm leaning taking the ranger along, though we could ask for both if you're down. But I think we were aiming for a smaller group or so?" He'd say in the group chat, which meant only the group could hear and thusly choose on the matter. Or whomever stepped up to to be party leader could pick should they take the immediate initiative.
Either way, once the party was officially formed by sending around the 'join party' request. It'd probably be fairly clear that Goibniu_The_Waylander, was a low level artificer who was only a handful of levels into his adventuring class, roughly around level 5, still in Rank 'F' territory. As most of the levels could be found in the tutorial intro. Which definitely would make it dangerous to choose higher rank dungeons. He wouldn't stop the rest of the group if they stuck to the high level temple of Ocren. An ancient artifact was too much to turn down if he could get his hands on it. Not to mention the wondrous or at least higher level crafting materials involved! But, it would become immediately clear that he was sticking to Elian's side like he was glued to it! Probably, to not die.
Also side question, should our "players" technically live close to each other without knowing (a drive away or so). Since there's supposed to be an outside of the game aspect to things?
Update/Edit:
Would we as players decide when we 'level up' / unlock new skills or is that for the GM to decide?
Jaiden had made it home in the afternoon, and absolutely grumbling too himself. He was drenched head to toe and his clothes felt ten pounds heavier on him. Especially as he had to drag in a bunch of different large boxes into the house, and down to his room. As the door opened there would be a faint chime of the security system:
"Front door open."
Only to wave off his dad down the hall, who had peeked in just to make sure there wasn't an intruder. Every time the security system let out that notification, there was a sense of tenseness to the house. The exception being if there was a prior text beforehand.
There was a severe thunderstorm going on outside, and once the door was closed it'd just barely drown out the noise. Moving the boxes to his room, and closing another door completely deafened it.
The boxes were new virtual reality gear for playing onlie MMO's, specifically T.O.E. on this one. There had been rumors, about some Jester going around PKing some high level players. It seemed a bit out of his own concern. He hadn't realized when joining T.O.E. that it had open PVP, or at least dungeons were an open PVP areas perhaps. He had always assumed it to be mainly PVE, with PVP challenge menus or some such. Still, the new VR gear should supposedly give him an 'edge', or an increasingly realistic feel which may be fun for roleplaying later. It was also considered the 'default' for new age MMOs like T.O.E., even though Jaiden made his controllers compatible with the software, it wasn't supposed to be 'ideal', especially from an immersion standpoint.
He'd slap on his headset and a pair of hand controllers. Opened up his chat overlay for app called 'Xhaos', and turned on a voice modulator before logging into T.O.E. He'd end up sick later, since he was still drenched in rain water but at least all of his stuff has long sense been waterproofed!
Goibniu would 'wake up' log on in his normal spot, near the Smithy of Shebar. It probably wasn't the only spot, but it was the main-hub in the artisan district of the city. Just around the corner would be a leather-worker's shop, or down the road a wood-carver, or even a tailor. It made it easier for crafting players to know where everything is, centralizing getting materials, or making things too. Unfortunately, materials from NPC vendors were highly expensive in comparison to their actual values. A design to motivate others to go off venturing into the world.
Goibniu, didn't have any request projects today. There was an in-game list to keep track of those. He also ran out of material, and didn't want to go off begging for more. Not to mention, he was less likely to get high end materials that way. That left one, 'ideal' option: Adventuring.
Jaiden, had briefly flicked open the 'party search' menu. But, thought it may break the 'roleplay' experience, which was part of the experimental fun. He ended up closing it, and had his character Goibniu head toward the Adventurer's guild. He would of course end up passing by other player guild halls along the way, especially the main guild halls.
"Looking for a healer, and preferably a tank! Looking to dungeon delve!" He did end up breaking character a bit anyways, by calling out along the way. Sounding more like a tired salesman shouting out a pitch. He'd also 'post' the message in the general chat of the area, so anyone could see and respond too it, versus just replying to the sound of his voice. The proximity sound function may limit people hearing him after all.
He'd make his way to the Adventurer's guild, looking for quests related to dungeon exploration. As a technically 'F' rank adventurer. He may have slim pickings if he was the leader of the party, but if someone else actually took up his offer... then maybe they could take on a higher level dungeon. As dungeon's, at least in most games were based on the average level of the party.
Goibniu was supposed to be desperate, so he'd party with just about anyone. Trusting them, might be another thing in theory.
Scrap Saver: Deconstructed devices & metal objects drop additional scrap metals and components that can be used for tinkering.
“One man’s trash, is another man’s spring for a lovely wall clock!”
Gear Head: Allows the use of tinkering with devices directly in the field modify their traits instead of simply activating or deactivating the device. Normally a tinkering crafting station would be needed. =. This consumes scraps and other components.
“This trap is great, but… what if I made if I moved that cog over here-?”
Ballistic Craftsman 2: Grants a moderate chance of adding an additional perk when crafting or modifying a firearm.
“The barrel could use some work, but with some love it’ll be blasting through walls.”
Character Name: Jaiden Hopkins Age: 25 Gender: Male
Player Appearance:
Jaiden is a short Caucasian man. He stands roughly around 5’4” and 110 lbs, and is often embarrassed by his height. He has a rectangular body frame with bulky shoulders. His general physique is fair, not containing notable fat or muscle. The stature and frame does make it easier to get lost in a crowd, especially when feeling uncomfortable from others.
Jaiden’s complexion is between an ashy olive & rosy tone. His face maintains a tired youthful appearance. His eyes are a bright topaz blue with long eyelashes. Under his left eye there is a large scar from a knife cut. His nose is small and narrow. He has orange hair, that while straightened down to his shoulders always has a stray curl here or there no matter how much he treats it. Just below his eye scar, and on his right hip he has tattoos of red eyes & pale fingers peering out of a black void.
Jaiden often wears his favorite long sleeved purple sweater, and either jeans or pajamas depending whether he’s outside or at home. He’s rarely allowed outside the house without being reminded to carry a concealed firearm holster on his waist. Which increases his anxiety the longer he’s outside.
Personality:
Jaiden is a a cheerful and curious creator. He enjoys diving into the underlying mechanisms of various subjects, though mechanical devices & software especially. Deep dive documentaries on random subject matter are an enjoyable pastime to study new things A recent interest is that of roleplays and so called ‘esoteric’ history, such as supposed alien technology. His curiosity tends to bleed into a spontaneity of whether he can achieve a certain function by messing with stuff. The consequences or the actual necessity of these projects isn’t often thought of, and has lead to dozens of weird programs & modified devices. One of the latest is an audio interface that requires a point & click game to played to change the volume.
There is sense of thrill found in ‘hunts’. Typically searches for either unique solutions, interesting information, or at times even finding traces of persons from ‘bounty hunting’. It’s a matter of challenging himself, an impractical game of sorts that can become enthralling. He tends to refuse to take a break, or stop until he’s made some form of progress or difference. The behavior can be detrimental to his health, or at least his sleep at times.
Despite his otherwise positive personality in person, he has a set distrust of others. He keeps most persons at an arms-length and outright refuses to provide personal information of any sort. He’ll rarely bring up his own troubles, or true feelings to others either unless harshly pride out of him. He doesn’t consider it paranoia, but he refuses to even use his real name in any public setting. If asked for a name, he tends to default to “Guy”.
Background:
Jaiden grew up in a small trailer with his retired military dad. It was a quiet life, though the two would spend time as a handy man for electronics & a little assistant. They weren’t particularly poor, just never saw the need for lavish housing. The small electronic business was supposed to support Jaiden’s future college fund. Albeit, he would choose not to attend in person. His favorite memories from his younger years was messing with various RC toys by scripting basic routines. He’d take this scripting skill to some old online games as well such as multi-boxing on the classic mmo ‘Forever-Venture’.
He continued to develop his tech skills, specifically computer scripting and hacking. In his teen years he would take ‘bounty contracts’ as a white hat hacker, unknowingly putting him on a government watch list. He found a bit of satisfaction of hunting down or finding ‘clues’ on certain bounties and getting paid a good chunk of money in the process. Most of which was reinvested in either drone equipment, or gaming. He did, unfortunately get caught on one of his prior ventures and not only doxed but attacked in his home. He had to get an implant in his left eye to maintain vision in it and it hasn’t been quite the same since.
They had to move out of state using Jaiden’s college fund. He still wanted to pursue a degree, though couldn’t afford the standard in person-experience. Instead, leveraging some of his bounty jobs, he secured government grants to take online courses for a Computer Science degree & other certifications. In exchange he was essentially tracked into working for state cybersecurity. Things, were never quite the same. His dad became a paranoid gun nut that Jaiden keeps calm, & Jaiden himself felt uncomfortable leaving their home. He’s trying to reach out and return to old hobbies of online gaming and even experiment with them through roleplay to further distance himself from his identity. He’s picked up and is rather new to T.O.E., but has dived in leveling craftsmanship within it with little ventures, until now. Especially as quality crafting components require dungeon delving.

Avatar Personality:
Goibniu is supposed to be a roleplay account with a separate persona. Jaiden, is new to roleplay and struggles maintaining the persona at times.
Goibniu takes great pride in his craftmanship and pursues it over all else. He’ll gladly accept crafting projects for pennies, or small items in comparison to the value of the project itself: especially if materials for it were provided. He loves and seeks the practice and develop his skill. He pursues nearly all avenues to improve his knowledge even at direct risk to his own wellbeing. Which can mean inspecting traps too closely, looking at advanced dungeons, or kiting golem like enemies to get & ‘understanding’ of how they function.
He supposedly is supposed to have an apprehensive and gruff personality, using persons to his own ends. Even having a dark and vengeful spirit against those who have slighted him or his colleagues especially. Jaiden, often fails or struggles at these aspects.
Avatar Background:
Originally born as a blessed child named Mwayi from a small village in Scuonia, he trained in smithing. Tales of wondrous machines & golems from the ancient peoples of Scuonia & Ocren had inspired him. Time, had faded these legends but the tales had large contraptions that could read the skies, and golems with intelligence could rival that of any man. These legends were passed through word of mouth and ancient totems that no longer functioned for their original purpose. The deep scars in Jafrauca’s tapestry of shredded culture & history had lost much into mystery. Documents, Ideas, kingdoms, and even whole peoples were simplified into the colony of “Scuonia” or more often than not actively eradicated. This had gone over the course of centuries, but “Scunoia” had became a labor colony with a bloody history under the fluctuating rule of either Shebar or Jafrauca. Nations warred over the colony until its recent and hard-fought independence into a republic.
The world changed ever more and with rumors of Jafrauca’s advancing machinery, there were underlying anxieties. Scuonia was afraid of being subjugated again. The republic of Scunoia, hardly wished to take matters lying down and reached throughout the land for craftsman, warriors, and scholars. Mwayi’s village had sponsored the journey to Ministry of Sciences with the sale of their strongest cattle. He would take an apprenticeship under scholar Goibniu of the Measure. The Ancient Goibniu was a mathematician, though he owed much of his knowledge archaeological explorations in his youth. Mwayi, would develop a skill for a field of engineering called tinkering, thanks to Goibniu’s tutelage. In rather esoteric portions of the tutelage, Mwayi even began a spark to become an artificer instead of a simple craftsman.
Unfortunately, the Ancient Goibniu, did not get to die of old age. The scholar was assassinated by an elf named “Roam”. The Ministry’s great libraries were raided, and what wasn’t stolen, was torched. The nations of Shebar & Jafrauca are the prime suspects of involvement. Mwayi took up the name of his mentor vowing to reclaim their research, and expand the Ministry’s knowledge along the way. Sailing through Roclen to reach Shebar.
Magical Abilities:
“Artificers abilities come from an understanding principle of the natural philosophies and breaching the underlying mechanics to function to the point of becoming magic! Applying arcane summoned machinery or tools to their ends.”
Stunning Shock: Creates a short-ranged beam of built-up static to attack a target. This beam inflicts low damage and has a low chance to paralyze a target.
“Rub your hands together, and hope you don’t jolt yourself.”
Summon/Dispel Automaton: Summons or dispels one’s own medium size “pet” automaton. The creature can follow basic commands, attack, and perform different actions depending on acquired perks gained through special equipment or investing skill points.
“An entity made by esoteric studies of magic & sciences, only few who can create or call such from beyond the veil.”
Perk-Mechanics Assistant: The Automaton gains the crafting level & skills equivalent to the artificer.
Automaton Appearance:
The automaton creature vaguely resembles a humanoid made out of brass from the waist up. Its general frame appears similar to a slim vase, with a tapered neck, and a half sphere at the top for the ‘head’. At the base of the conjured creature is a large cog that spins clockwise. This ‘cog’ base seems to apply a levitation force against the ground through unknown means. The lower half of its ‘torso’ resembles a massive compressed steel spring. It has two thin arms that resemble solid levers with prong like claws on their ends.
On the automaton’s abdomen is a massive ‘slot’, that seems to be missing some form of gear. On either pec of its chest are two concave spherical slots as well. The head of creature has ‘eyes’ formed from horizontal shaped slits. On either said of the head or small protrusions vaguely resembling the ends of a horn.
Craft Skills:
Smithing
Bronze Metallurgy 3- Removes ‘failure’ chance when working with copper-based alloys, including brass & bronze. Decreases the number of metal needed when creating copper-based items by 3/4ths.
“Springs, wheels, and more. Let the trumpets play!”
Steel Metallurgy 2- Removes ‘failure’ chance when working with iron-based alloys, including steel & ferrous metals. Decreases the number of metal needed when creating iron based items by 2/4ths.
“A defining point of advancement, whether it be to defend yourself, or deal some damage.”
Field Repair- Allows the use of smithing out in the open rather than at a forge. Whether this be repairing durability, crafting, or scrapping materials. The time of smithing is faster than using standard ‘magic’ repair hammers, that only restore durability.
“Looks like there’s a chip in your armor there, let me just patch it up-…and done!”

Has been in multiple groups for 'bounty' work. Some of which, were in-field bounty hunters that bought or trade information on wanted persons. Bounties also frequently referred to tasks of testing security systems, or taking down dangerous networks.
Used to frequently 'Multi-box- on Forever-Venture (An old and classic MMO). Playing a handful of characters at once, and having interacted with multiple guilds accordingly in the past.

Even having a dark and vengeful spirit against those who have sleighted him or his colleagues especially.
Tinkering:
Tinkering:
Notes:
Has been in multiple groups for 'bounty' work. Some of which, were in-field bounty hunters that bought or trade information on wanted persons. Bounties also frequently referred to tasks of testing security systems, or taking down dangerous networks.
Used to frequently 'Multi-box- on Forever-Venture (An old and classic MMO). Playing a handful of characters at once, and having interacted with multiple guilds accordingly in the past.
Lurks on a roleplay forum for their chatroom and the fun vibes and took a lot of advice for coming up with Goibniu.
