Eager to see y'all and anyone else lurking there, if you have any questions or comments throw 'em there and I'll get to them as soon as possible. Looking forward to hearing from everyone!
"The Year is 2268. As the Federation continues to take its steps into a galaxy fraught with danger and mystery around every corner, a new generation of explorers and scientists begin their first venture into this unusual world. As members of the graduating class of Starfleet Academy this year, they begin their final test. An extended training voyage, placing them into the same situations they'll soon face as fully qualified officers, under the guidance of a veteran captain and experienced enlisted crew aboard a newly refitted training vessel, they'll soon find that the final frontier is even more wild than they thought..."
Welcome, one and all! As stated in the little blurb above, the idea is that you're all Starfleet Academy officer cadets on their final test before graduation, a training cruise operating as an official Starfleet vessel. You'll be going on missions, answering distress calls, researching phenomena, and putting up with the surprise tests from your captain and the volunteer enlisted crew.
The only real rule requirements I have are at least somewhat legible grammar and spelling, and beyond that just don't do anything that's gonna make me make a rule. I understand English isn't everyone's first language so I'm happy to let some stuff go if the overall message and intent of the post is clear, and I'm more than happy to help with writing a post to make it read better if anyone needs it, so just say the word!
I'm also not a big stickler on post size. While just a single line or two is a no, I won't mind smaller paragraphs here and there as long as it keeps the story flowing through dialogue and actions. Expect me to play more of a reactionary role throughout this, presenting you with the initial scenarios for your characters, giving you all time to react and present actions/dialogue, and then showing the outcomes of that, and repeat. Essentially something like a tabletop RPG without the dice, to an extent.
While I do intend to pull quite a bit of lore from Star Trek canon and continuity, even that outside the Original Series time period of the 2260s, I'm not married to canon in any way, so if you have a character idea that doesn't fit within "official Star Trek" don't feel afraid to pitch it, and I'll work with you to get a suitable outcome. This is the Wild West era of the franchise, when anything could've happened, so I'm fine if things get a bit off-center.
Biggest thing to keep in mind is that your characters should have the experience and demeanor of cadets, so a lot of book smarts in regards to their duty stations and daily tasks, but limited practical experience. Though, I do encourage y'all to go wild with Star Trek-style tecnobabble to describe your characters' goals when doing something. The more it fits with the scenes of the show, the better!
If anyone has any questions, comments, concerns or anything else, please don't hesitate to let me know!
This is the basic character sheet template, feel free to tweak/modify it to fit your concept better as need be:
@EmiliaBaiYue well that's why the plan is for this to be the academy training cruise, essentially the "final test" for Starfleet Academy officers. You'll be going on proper Starfleet missions, just as cadets acting in the role of officers overseen by a commissioned captain and trained technical staff.
The idea is on top of standard Star Trek plot shenanigans, the captain will be arranging various "tests" to see how you perform, to mix things up a bit.
@Eviledd1984 The initial plan is between the original series and the first movie, most likely near the end of or directly after the Enterprise's five-year mission. So enough time to follow up on TOS plot points and characters for cameos and such, but without having to address the idea of the movies happening off-screen.
This is absolutely negotiable, of course. If the majority of people prefer another era, we can do that too.
