Doesn't matter how hard, Comet's parents practically abandoned him, getting turned down is a big button for him.

Damn, poor Comet's gonna get shot down hard isn't he?
Oh yeah.

Thirty posts in and already a love triangle, I take no responsibility.
So Comet doesn't know Spectrum's a girl, that is all.
Comet had returned to sipping drink and staring into the crowd, he was almost getting ready to leave, as he had managed to piss off one of the big guys a few moments after getting there. No matter how worth it it was, it was going to be harder to make friends with that big guy in the other corner, not that he stood much of a chance of making friends in the first place.

He sighed and took another sip. If only he had been born a nice guy, that would have been grand, not that he needed friends, who did? Screw them, screw them all-

Oh hey look, it's Spectrum, damn he's cool, if only I could see the man underneath, I bet he's handsome, so handsome. Comet's eyes darted over the suited-up superhero, he had only seen him once before, but immediately he had been struck by the dazzling beauty of his power. The thrill that he got just from watching was enough to put any run to shame.

He had to talk to him, but what would he say? Compliment his costume? Nah, dudes didn't care about their clothes, but there was literally nothing else to talk about.

He nervously poked his fingers together as he thought, staring intently at the armored hero. Then his eyes narrowed.

Wait a minute... where's he going? He wondered silently as Spectrum continued through the room towards... something lost in the crowd. He placed down his drink and slunk through the mass of bodies in an attempt to see, wiping a bit of sweat from his forehead and calming himself with a few deep breaths. He had to be beet red, he had barely any memory of the last time he and Spectrum had met, and he had almost entirely forgotten about him before today. It seemed childish, like some kid following around an adult due to some puppy-love, but this felt like more than that, he was still dealing with the fact that he wasn't...

It was Dragon Heart.

It was Dragon Heart and Comet was fuming.

He shook in... it wasn't so much rage as dawning comprehension. Spectrum was into Dragon Heart, not that Comet exactly blamed him, but it was less about the looks in his eyes, sure Dragon Heart had those, but he was too arrogant, he was fake-nice, quick to anger at everything, and he was oh so boring.

Comet had to do something, but what? He couldn't approach Dragon Heart, not after what he had done earlier, and he still wasn't ready to speak to Spectrum. He had to come up with something... but there was nothing. He had to talk to Spectrum, he stood no chance against Dragon Heart unless he did. He had to get ready.

He appeared next to a very clearly startled Chief Thomas, and spoke very quickly.

"I'vegottogogetsomethingI'llbebackokaybye!" he then shot off before Thomas could even see who it was.

"What the he-"

"I'm back, thanks for waiting on me, now, I've got a boy to charm."

He shot towards the armored man, rose in mouth. He slid in front of him, giving a coy smile, which quickly faded into a nervous look as he realized just how close he was to Spectrum. He pulled the rose out of his mouth and stood a moment, knees knocked, before offering it with a shaky hand.

"H-here."

As soon as this is done I'm going to go to the top of this building and jump off five times.

So fast even Comet can't keep up.
Comet barely noticed someone else approaching, or the one after him, he had been distracted by his own voice and the fact that he had yet to greet Dragon Heart, not that it really mattered, it was just polite, though how long that would last was up to opinion. He disengaged before anyone could reply to him and sped in front of Dragon Heart, leaning on a nearby wall and holding up his glass. The taller man jumped noticeably at Comet's sudden appearance, to which he chuckled.

He obviously doesn't recognize me, perhaps he failed to notice the purple leather jacket, or my name on the back of it. He silently wondered to himself.

"Hey captain perceptive," he snarked. "So, how about that Fitch building huh? Talk about a bang, right?" He laughed.

"Anyway, I'm Comet, I think we've met before, though I doubt you remember, not that I'm so good on the memory front myself, though at least I have an excuse."

Dragon Heart looked utterly flabbergasted.

"Uhh, I don't... I mean, yes, hello Comet, I don't think we've met, though I do recognize the name," he answered haltingly. Comet frowned and nearly broke the glass in his hand, shaking at a frequency so high he began to let out a small sound. With a deep breath, he calmed himself.

Why do I wear the goddamn outfit if no-one recognizes it?

He shook his head.

"No, I do heroics around here, we have met, I specifically remember telling you to..." he stopped and thought a moment. "Well, that's not exactly for formal events is it? Anyway, I was taking down some thugs and you come in all 'time to save the day', like I needed it," he said with an intense look on his face.

Dragon sighed and rubbed his temples, seemingly remembering something.

"Yes, I do remember that, what do you want then? I'm here to have a good time, I'd rather you didn't attack me for trying to help."

Comet chuckled.

"So am I, I'm a fun-loving guy! I'm only here because everywhere else bores me."

Dragon Heart folded his arms.

"How noble, now please, leave me alone," the hero was clearly getting to the end of his leash, and Comet was enjoying every moment.

"No, no, just a moment, I just have a question to ask," he held out an arm as Dragon attempted to walk past him. The taller man sighed and walked back.

"Fine, what is it?"

"Why am I so handsome?"

Dragon Heart glared at him, then turned away as Comet stood with a large grin on his face.

"Polite" lasted exactly thirty seconds. Though that was sure a lot of fun.
I love how everyoneis dressed normally and then there's comet in a purple leather jacket and goggles.
The clink of a glass, the pouring of champagne, all of it within less than a second. Liquids usually don't flow at that speed, but a little help does wonders. Comet joined in the toast and downed his drink before most everyone had even started. He wasn't going to get drunk, his body worked too quickly for that, didn't mean he couldn't enjoy himself.

He took a rag to his goggles to wipe away some dirt that had gotten there somehow. He always found a way to get them dirty, just goes to show that they were necessary, don't want to stop running because there's something in your eye. As he lowered the rag, he caught Spectrum talking to Dragon Heart. Nice to see them there, he guessed, he didn't really give much thought to the other heroes. He had explicitly asked earlier in the week for other heroes to avoid helping him unless he asked, getting help only reduced the danger, and danger was the whole reason he was doing this.

With a sigh, he walked into the crowd. Time for the hardest challenge he'd face all day.

Noticing Fixer sitting alone and sulking, he slunk over to speak to him, one person was better then a crowd. It wasn't that he was afraid of socializing, it's just that he'd piss everyone off and end up miserable himself.

He took a seat next to the masked man, grabbing another drink before his new conversation partner had time to blink. Dropping it on the table and taking a sip, he smirked.

"You don't have any friends either?" He asked, half truthful about his popularity. "People like the character, not the guy, people think I'm a bit of a dick, you're just socially awkward right? I can tell just by looking at you."

He took a closer look and frowned.

"I've never seen you before, that's a good thing. What's your deal? Super ugly so you wear the mask so that people don't die from seeing you? Super strong but super socially awkward? Kinda like Stark, he's super strong but super naked. Not my ideal situation..." he took off into a tangent, speedily going through every thought on his mind.
So just out of wonder, what if one of those on High went powermad or something, would the other three be able to wipe the floor with them or what?
