”MOTHERFUCK….!!!”

DeShawn backed off of Jackson as the boy dug his thumbs deep into his brown eyes. As the world continued to blur around him, it suddenly went black. Something was obstructing his already impaired vision and this was quickly followed by the all too familiar pummelling of knuckle on skull. For a moment during the assault, Dee froze; not out of fear but out of regret. He could’ve just left well enough alone, Melissa could handle herself. He had to get involved and now he was putting everything at risk for a girl that probably wasn’t in his long term future.

The kicking of the back of his leg woke him up from his daze. Jackson was trying to chop down the redwood but all he successfully did was wake up the sleeping beast. With as much force as his large frame could muster, DeShawn stretched out, flung his arms back and managed to swing the other boy off of him. Yanking the jacket off of his face, Dee straight punched Jackson in the mouth with his huge left hand, followed by a right hand and he finally finished by throwing him to the floor. Lost in his street mentality, DeShawn grabbed a nearby chair and broke it over his knee, taking a chair leg as a weapon. He loomed over the probe Jackson like a horror movie villain about to murder a beautiful college co-ed who made the mistake of saying I’ll be right back.

”Words hurt, boy. So does this”

As he came down with the swing of the weapon, something or someone caught Dee’s wrist. He turned to see another boy, shirtless, wet and roughly about the same size as DeShawn himself.

“Relax homeboy you won. This ain’t the street, we’re civilised here”

Theo pushed the other boy back and stood in between him and Jackson. He was a mirror to the Rosefellian in size with the only key difference being their skin colours. DeShawn and Theo had met on the football field before, both were the linebackers for the respective teams, both were highly touted and both were highly competitive. One had a silver spoon and the other, he used his hands. If ever there was night and day in two men, it was these two.

”Could’ve fooled me” Dee spat back. ”This ain’t your fight man, get outta my way”

“Can’t do that, bud” Theo smiled that damn fucking grin before turning to Jackson. “Go calm your woman down before we have an international incident” he returned his gaze to Dee and let go of his wrist. “Here’s the thing, right now this is just a fight at a party. You swing that thing, it’s assault with a deadly weapon. Your ass will be in jail quicker than a virgins first pump on prom night. I’m the only person stopping that from happening right now. Defense Marcus”

As much as he hated to admit it; Dee knew that his Liberty counterpart had a point. His initial worry walking into this party was that beyond himself and Tyler; there was a distinct lack of people of colour and in this environment if anything went wrong, they would be the first people blamed, most likely without evidence. If he stopped now he could get away with it, it was a few harsh words and few bruised egos. Should he take that next step, all the work he had done since leaving Baltimore would be undone.

“You don’t want college recruits to focus all their attention on me now, do you? We’re not competition anymore, Forty Four; We're teammates and they’ll only pick one of us. So relax, grab yourself a drink or something stronger and enjoy the party” TVC patted the brick like arm of DeShawn and smiled sweetly. He turned away and made his way to Jackson, putting a firm hand on the Libertine's shoulder. ”Keep it in check, Park. You embarrass our school like that again and I’ll end you myself”

Theo rose to his feet and made his way over to one of the drinks tables and setting out to accomplish the goal he had originally intended when he walked back into the house; beverages for he and Lilith, whom he had left in the pool, wet and warm in multiple ways. As he poured out the booze into some solo cups, he turned to look upon a young stunner standing there, dark hair and covered in denim, she was unmistakably a Kingsley. He offered her that damn smile and a wink before heading back out to the pool like an all conquering hero.

DeShawn dropped the wooden stick he had and glanced around the room at the carnage he had caused. For the last few minutes he had been everything he had always ever been accused of being; a thug, a street rat, a no good hood.

Ok.

Jackson had some flex in him.

That was fine. Better even. Now it wouldn’t look so bad when DeShawn killed the motherfucker.

”Why don’t you two just shut up? Like it or not your school is gone and you are on our turf now. You can’t just walk in and pretend like you own the place. You have to abide by our rules to start with. ’sides, If you want to get to Mel, you are going to have to go through me...And...him”

For whatever reason, Jaxtyn decided to chime in and the linebacker wasn’t sure what to make of it. Maybe the little man had way too much to drink or maybe he thought this was some kind of way to get Melissa into bed. Whatever the case, his being involved in this rumble made little to know sense. It almost made Dee regret grinding the boy to the party, if not for his being there, Jax wouldn’t be about to get his ass kicked.

”Jax, don’t. This ain’t your scene, kid”

He was about to reach for the boy and pull him out of the line of fire but was too late. In milliseconds, Jaclson had taken a move from Dee’s own playbook and head butted Jaxtyn in the nose. Maybe he did need to lay off the burgers? He thought he was faster than that. Before any other move could be made, the Liberty teen was in him, swinging at his face. Dee dodged that shot but not the following kick to the shin which brought the large boy to a knee.

Unexpected: the beanpole had some strength to his moves. It didn’t matter though, DeShawn had dealt with far worse than a high schoolers converse. He had been beaten with baseball bats, he had been cut with razors and he had been pistol whipped by the cold stew of a Glock. Dee had seen things that those around him wouldn’t believe and there was no way in hell that he survived all that time on the street for some rich kid with daddy issues to take away everything he had worked for.

Like a pissed off grizzly, DeShawn exhaled sharply out of his nose as he gritted his teeth. He ate kids like this for breakfast back in the day, this wasn’t no thing to get concerned about. Pulling himself to his feet, the mountainous boy moved past Jaxtyn and bull rushed Jackson against a wall. Number 44 of the Rosefell Knights was the best defensive player in the state, arguably in the country, when he hit, you felt it. His humongous hand wrapped around Jackson’s throat and began to squeeze and in that moment. DeShawn was no longer just fighting for Melissa or Rosefell, he was fighting for survival, he was fighting for the life he had been so desperate to protect.

Throwing Jackson by his neck across the room, he suddenly stopped and began to stare at his hands. He had done a lot with these hands, a lot of bad things and this was one of them. He looked up at the growing crowd and then to Jackson. DeShawn could snap the boy like a twig, he didn’t even have to think about it. The question was, did he really want to?

It wasn’t Jackson he was mad at after all.

Fat jibes? Really?

For all their talk of class, these Liberties were nothing but children when it came to their insults. Anyone with a working pair of eyes knew that DeShawn was built out of marble and granite. Yeah the boy was a little thicker than most but the ladies loved that about him.

DeShawn was trying to maintain his composure, trying to stick to his well worn mantra at this point. “Stay in your lane”. Every single fibre of his being was screaming at him to grab Jackson by the next and put him through the goddamn table. He had to keep his promise. Stay out of trouble. One wrong move and it was all over for him. Corner boy be damned, you’re a Rosefell Knight now. As he clenched his large fists, ready to decide if he was going to destroy his future for a girl, he was interrupted.

As only the Queen could; Melissa tore Miki and Jackson apart. He was in awe as the blonde shredded their dignity, battered down their confidence and forced them to retreat with their tails between their legs under the guise of the high ground. In some ways, Dee was extremely thankful that the two had walked away; given the chance the linebacker would’ve likely caved in to his lesser impulses and ended up in a cell for the night.

An extremely small girl popped up in front of DeShawn and Melissa before he could further react. She was tiny yeah but damn, talk about a knockout. He would be worried that would snap the poor thing in half if he went anywhere near her.

"Excuse me! Hi. Is the punch good? I just got here so... I'm a bit behind. The name's Trixie. Well, Beatrix, really. I think you're Melissa, right? and you, DeShawn? Please correct me if I'm wrong! I think you both have some classes with my brother."

Hi Trixie! I can call you Trixie, right? Well, you are correct on your names, and you know what, I think Dee here can help you out and get you some punch. But be careful! It's got a hell of a kick to it."

Taken aback by being shoehorned into this new conversation without having had the chance to cool off properly; Dee turned and grabbed a glass of punch for the newcomer. ”Here you go, mama. Enjoy yourself, it’s a party” Distracted by Trixie, DeShawn was taken aback by the swift kick to the nuts that Melissa planted on Jackson. He thought it was over, he wished it was over but of course, the Queen wasn’t going to let this go; that was just her style.

Like the hero he was, Saint Jayvo tried to help the poor Liberty that Melissa had assaulted; little did he know how much the bean pole actually deserved it for what he had said to the cheerleader.

In that moment, maybe it was the booze talking and maybe it was the genuine frustration that had been building for over a year but DeShawn felt something he hadn’t felt in a long time; he felt himself. The Liberties and the Rosefells fell away from his vision, replaced by the cold, blood soaked streets of West Baltimore. He stood on the corner of Calhoun and Baker, a few dead soldiers in hand to resell to the fiends that come around the way. The East side boys looking to step to him and his crew; wasn’t no turf war if the soldiers get capped quick. In his ears, Dee could hear the bullets flying overhead, striking vacant lot doors where all the bodies were buried, and the pounding feet of corner boys running for their lives. The unmistakable rotting smell of the last vestiges of the American dream.

For over a year, Dee had been pretending to be a good boy. He had been honourable, decent and soft; everything that his uncle wanted him to be. Yet that’s not how he came up. He was the son of the Soulman; the most feared drug kingpin this side of NYC. The slight against Melissa didn’t even matter anymore; DeShawn just wanted to hurt somebody.

”Fuck it”

Charging out of his trance, he marched over to Jay and almost manhandled his friend out of the way. ”Don't get in my way, Jay. Imma hurt this bitch” He grabbed the still kneeling Jackson by either side of his head and pulled him upwards and head butted the youth square in the nose.

”The fuck your think was gonna happen?”

Some might call it disrespectful having your phone on in a cemetery but Mei considered it a necessity. How else would the ghosts contact her? It was a lifeline in case the unquiet dead decided to rise from their graves and take deadly revenge;

In this town; they just might.

To: Jillybean: Hey girl, you know I’m down. Be at your place in a few

Mei put away her phone and made her way towards Allison Davies headstone. It was a fairly large thing; the Davies were one of the more financially fruitful families in all of Edenridge so giving their only daughter a big memorial was no great shock. Kneeling down onto the warm grass, the artist placed one hand on top of the stone, saying a silent prayer for her fallen idol.

As a child, Mei had been scouted by various schools. With her natural talent in gymnastics, it was thought that with the proper training she could go to the olympics. Her fathers martial arts training had made her a machine when it came to all things physical. As much as she enjoyed all that, it wasn’t what Mei wanted. For as long as she could remember, Mei wanted to be just like Ally Davies. She was her older sister Reagan’s best friend.

Reagan and Mei always held a contemptuous relationship. The older Ramsey sister was someone considered cold and logical; beneficial for her chosen career path as a doctor sure but it left for considerable issues with her baby sister. On the reverse, Ally was everything Reagan was not; warm, embracing and kind. When it came time to choose which high school she would attend, Mei picked Edenridge High purely for Allison. The day Ally said that Mei could join the cheerleading squad was the best day of her life.

Then she went and died.

Finishing up her prayer for the beautiful departed; the priestess got back up to her feet and smiled. ”See you tomorrow” She popped her AirPods back on and began to make her way forward out of the graveyard. She stopped in her tracks at a tombstone just off of the exit and away from most of the others. It was covered in moss and vines. It was unkempt and it had very obviously been spray painted multiple times but someone was trying to keep it clean; that much was obviously by the smudge marks.

Here Lies Resting
Charles Jay Decker
Beloved Son
“They are not dead who live in the hearts they leave behind. – Tuscarora”

There was a wall built in the centre of town with the names of all of Charlie’s victims enshrined onto it. In many ways there was one forgotten victim of a boy who gave into his darkness; that boy's mother. Rhonda Decker was now alone in this world, a pariah in a town that held a grudge. Mei hadn’t heard much of her since the massacre, all she did know was that she was still around, somewhere on the south side and was obviously attempting to maintain her son's grave. There seemed to be many things to blame for what Charlie did but his mother wasn’t one of them and she certainly didn’t deserve to pay for his crime.

Leaving the graveyard, Mei began to walk the hilly streets of Edenridge, making her way towards Jillian’s place. As she passed by the Edge of Sin Club, Mei’s mind drifted slightly. She had often considered doing a few shifts there. She had an open offer from the owner and she loved to dance and from what Jade had told her in the past, the pay wasn’t great but it also wasn’t bad. The thought of Jade brought her mind to another Queen of Darkness. She had heard that Serena may be back in town for a reunion of some kind. She was a girl after her own heart and would be a welcome addition to her and Jill’s party.

To Rena: A little birdy told me you were in town. If you wanna party later, hit me up xxx

Finally arriving at Jillian’s, Mei parked herself on a nearby bench directly opposite her flame haired friend's bedroom and threw a small stone at it. She could’ve just text but where would the fun in that be. Whilst she waited, Mei began to read through Charlie’s latest letter on her phone.

His cowardice was palpable in the previous moment.

Rico had all the energy and all the momentum on his side after his duet with Jo; it should’ve been easy. Why was it then that when he approached his beloved Ellie that he bottled it and ran away before the brunette beauty could speak? Cowardice. He broke her heart and only now after months of longing and loneliness was he reaping what he showed and understanding the consequences of his actions.

The girl at the party was very different to the girl he had loved for so long. This Ellie was looser, more easy going; he could see that from the stage and it was enamouring. He had never seen her like that. Was this the real Ellie Roberts? Had Enrique’s demons pushed down her true self? It was true that he was a big personality and now the song maestro wondered if it was too big? Did he overshadow other peoples lights with his own darkness?

After the disastrous attempt to reach out to Ellie, Rico fled anywhere his legs would take him within the party. He witnessed the big brute that attacked him earlier leading Lilith into a private room. That was Ellie’s friend and from their brief interaction earlier, Rico knew that the guy she was with was bad news. He considered intervening but the building anxiety in his chest was like an anchor, it was weighing him to the ground. Desperately he searched for a friendly face; Hunter was with some girls, of course, Dee was squaring up to JP and the last thing Rico needed was two of his friends beating seven bells out of each other.

Hugging the guitar close to his chest like the lifeline he often considered it to be, the Mexican boy made his way out of the party and into the less busy garden. There were people messing around in the pool and others busy getting busy on lawn chairs but that didn’t bother him. He found himself a quiet place by the large fence and parked himself on top of a little stone mound. Rico began to pluck at his guitar strings and as the nonsensical sounds soon became a rhythm, he let the words escape from his lips.

Que bonitos ojos tienes,
Debajo de esas dos cejas,
Debajo de esas dos cejas,
Que bonitos ojos tienes.

Lost in the music, alcohol and drugs, Enrique was unaware of the small crowd of groupies and drunkies forming around him. Eyes closed, feeling the beechwood between his fingertips, all he could see was Ellie.

Ellos me quieren mirar,
Pero si tu no los dejas
Pero si tu no los dejas
Ni siquiera parpadear.

Malagueña salerosa
Besar tus labios quisiera
Besar tus labios quisiera
Malagueña salerosa.

December 18th 2016:

Helen Keller once said

“The best and the most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen or even touched. They must be felt with the heart”.

I didn’t know Allison Davies well but she is someone I’ve known all my life; much like pretty much everyone in Edenridge. It kind of comes with the territory of being from such a small place. From what I’ve heard of her, Helen’s quote is an apropo one for Ally. She was someone that felt things incredibly deeply and experienced the world with every fibre of her being. At least that’s what they said at her funeral today.

There’s a name that’s been loitering in peoples mouths since that cold night two weeks ago; mine. My name.

It makes sense that when faced with tragedy that most of us reach out for or in this particular case, lash out at something or someone. When we are briefly embraced in darkness it is easier to blame those that already live there for dragging us down to their level.

They’re trying to paint me as some sort of sadist monster who has snatched the life away from a girl who worshipped life so feverishly. They’re saying that I value money and the world of a Triple S gangbanger more than the life of a child.

I didn’t kill Allison Davies and this town is spitting on my name because of what I gave her. They want to find the real culprit, they might want to look into the eyes of the one whose face they put on the wall today.

Edenridge High. 8pm. Tonight. The Truth

Once he had polished off his drink and thrown it into a nearby bin; Dee could feel a light buzz beginning to course through his veins. This was a good thing; a little levity and positivity to keep him feeling good. He settled one one more drink to cap off his evening, any more and DeShawn probably wouldn’t be able to stop himself from reverting back to his old corner boy ways. He spent so much time creating such a controlled image that he often wondered how many of his current peers knew the real him.

Towering above his classmates, big D began to gently manoeuvre through the crowd intent on making it to one of the copious number of drinks tables in Christian’s lavish home. He had to move softly because DeShawn was a strong fuck even when he didn’t intent to be. One wrong step and some poor guy or girl would be sent flying to the floor.

He glanced up at one of the more crowded tables and bore witness to his boy Hunter gaming with...Alina? ”My man!” In the short time he had spent with his Liberty partner, he had found Alina very sweet and not too dissimilar to himself. Dee was extremely glad that she had decided to attend the party. After their talk on the first day, the girl cutting loose, relaxing and giving herself to a night of revelry was not the worst decision for her. Hunter was a Boy, one of the best. He had his shit but so did everybody else, there were worse people for Alina to be with. DeShawn offered his large hand up in a gentle wave before moving into the next room.

Nearly colliding with Tyler Andrews; the linebacker smiled as he brushed a friendly hand against her arm ”Stay in your lane, mama. Nearly cleaned you out. I mean, I know you can kick my ass but still…” Ty was his type of girl. She was strong and sassy and she had a quality about her that just reminded Dee of home. It was probably because they both grew up elsewhere, literally an hours drive away from each other with her being DC and him Baltimore respectively. Ty was always at the games, always cheering her heart out. She was the type of girl on the flip side to Missy that he could bring home to the family. ”Imma grab a drink but we should catch up...”

Before he could say anything else, Dee’s eyes locked onto the familiar blonde hair of his paramour Melissa being confronted by two Libertines. Normally, number forty four knew his Queen could handle herself but the fact that a six foot something dude was looming over her, that shit he wasn’t down for. ”Sorry Ty, give me a sec” Moments later and DeShawn was soon standing behind Melissa glaring at the tall boy who was belittling his friends. ”Hey yo” The boy was of similar height to Dee but he was built much thicker.

”You wanna talk about watching your step, I suggest you mind your own footwork, ya feel me?”

”And with the fiftieth anniversary of the mysterious Hangman murders coming up in just a weeks time; the question remains if that monstrous mans final prophecy will come to pass. Will the Hangman return from beyond the grave to exact his revenge on the town that put an end to his rampage? I guess time will tell dear viewers. That’s about all the time I have for this episode.

Next time, we’re gonna delve into something a little closer to home. By popular demand I’m gonna deep dive into the mysterious death of Amanda Caulfield in the Edenridge Shoe Factory Fire. Was it an accident? Murder? Suicide? As someone who knew the parties involved, this host has her own ideas. Let’s explore the dark together though, my friends, until next time I’m your Demon Dream Girl Mei Midnight, signing off and as always remember, when it’s dark and your fear hits just the right level, listen close and you just might hear the Midnight Frequency”

Upon hitting upload onto her latest file, Mei, dressed in nothing but a black tank top and underwear, got up from her computer and turned away to head into her walk-in closet. In the small studio apartment she had held for the last few months, her closet pretty much took up most of the space. Her kitchen and bedroom were small and her bathroom, when it had running water, was the size of a phone booth. It was a Goddess-send really when her father said she could use the Dojo’s showers whenever she needed.

The only illumination in her pitch black apartment other than her laptop was a purple neon sign that read “The Deadlights”. Popping in her earbuds, Mei pressed play on her phone and as the tunes began to play, she began to apply her makeup for the day. Midway through the application, she stopped to gaze into the mirror for a moment, her free hand drifting up her midsection and settling into the still rough scar tissue on her neck. Mei’s eyes closed and she was transported back to the art room of Edenridge High. She could hear the glass shattering from the door that Charlie shot out. She could feel the hot blood dripping down from her neck onto her torso and hitting the cold marble floor of Miss Meek’s classroom.

Pushing out her demons with a sharp breath; Mei turned up the music in her ears to full and began to sort through her dark clothes looking for an outfit for the day. Finally settling upon a short off the shoulder skater dress (black of course) fishnets and her Docs, she hung her hair long and used a thick choker to cover her scar. Once she was happy with her look, Mei pulled herself to her feet, grabbed a pile of papers from the desk and left her craphole of a home.

“Morning Mei” a deep baritone voice called behind her.

The artist turned and waved at the man standing by her front door. He was tall, slim and greying but his strong frame exuded authority. He was leaned up against the exterior of her apartment with his legs crossed and his hands in his pockets. She glared at him as she slipped the roll of papers in her hand into the mailbox. ”Good morning, Agent Hearst. So you’re following ME today?”

“No, just passing by. Lotta mail you’re posting. Don’t kids just use Instagram or Pinterest nowadays?”

”I get a lot of commissions, I don’t trust technology” She responded. ”Don’t federal agents actually solve crimes instead of hanging around people’s houses?” Mei spat at the floor, taking the perfect image of Hearst before her and projecting it into the dirt where her spit landed.

“Be seeing you Mei” Hearst pulled a hand from one of his pockets and pushed up his horn rimmed glasses with a smile before turning the opposite direction to the young woman and heading down the sloped path.

Mei kissed her middle finger towards the federal before spinning on her heel and heading deeper into town. She breezed past her family dojo and even through her earbuds, the dark priestess could hear the grunts and chants of her fathers students. Daddy dearest did like to get started early; the poor guys under his tutelage didn’t stand a chance. Nobody could outwork Will Ramsey; that was a simple fact of life but his second born daughter certainly came close. Peering in through one of the windows, Mei smiled as the group performed the kata. It was obviously the beginners class.

A short while later, Mei found herself in the Edenridge graveyard. It was a shortcut she felt safe taking. Too many people considered the walk amongst the tombstones just as cursed as Edenridge High. Emerging from behind a tree she noted the long mane of a former classmate, talking to the grave she was coming to visit herself.

”She won’t respond Vin, the dead don’t tell tales unless you bribe them”

The hallway had fallen dead silent save for the squeaking of feet across the bloodied floor. By this point, Charlie had lost count of the amount of times he had pulled the trigger. He stopped counting the bodies after Principal Payne hit the floor in front of English class. With the school in lockdown, it made his movements that much easier since no one was getting out and no one was getting in. The fact that anyone would be surprised by this was laughable to Charlie. How could it not have ended this way? He was born to do this.

The Glock in his left hand was warm from its recent firing but it still held plenty of ammunition. All the time he had spent behind his mother’s house, firing at cans and makeshift targets had left him with the aim he needed to not waste the ammo had brought with him.

His mind drifted as he thought back towards his native ancestors and it made his blood burn hot. His people had always had their lives taken from them and he was no different. He was marked from birth to change the status quo. His entrance into the cafeteria at the start of all this; screaming his tribes cry as he popped Boaz in the head. The blood splatter landing on his face felt just as good as the soft first breath of spring rain.

The walls were covered by this point, the Celtic jerseys hanging there, the picture of the lost Allison Davies that hung next to the trophy case was as well. Her beautiful visage was a crimson mass because Charlie had willed it. He was sick of starting at her, sick of those eyes watching every move he made. The guilt had finally been replaced by pure rage.

A slamming door in the gym broke him free from his day dream and a smile crept upon Charlie’s lips. He tore the photo of Ally off the wall and then it against the nearby lockers. They didn’t really know her. It was all a lie, everything was a lie. Using his bloodstained hand he brushed back his dark hair before he cocked his gun and looked towards the home of those damned jocks.

“The pansy at my feet doth the same tale repeat. Whither is fled the visionary gleam? Where is it now, the glory and the dream?”

It hadn’t been the first and it wouldn’t be the last time that Roddy dreamt himself into the shoes of Charlie Decker. In a roundabout way, he didn’t hate the boy that put a bullet in his back and killed several of his friends. Instead there was a deep regret that he could not have done more. Rod had been bullied for years at that school but he had friends, the same couldn’t be said of Decker.

The dreams started with the first letter he received six months ago and they come whenever he gets any sleep, the joys of insomnia. Someone had Charlie’s journals, the ones he was always writing in, the ones that got read out to class by those that wanted to cause harm, the ones the police couldn’t find after the shooting. Someone was making copies of pages and sending them out to everyone, sending them to colleges, to jobs, someone didn’t want the world to forget Charlie Decker.

Pulling himself slowly out of bed, Rod’s back was burning but he didn’t have the time to dawdle. He was meeting Lanie and Rylie today and a few aching bones weren’t about to stop him from seeing his baby girl. He reached across to the bedside table to imbibe in the copious amounts of painkillers, muscle relaxers and other chalky tasting crap that the doctors had given him. He washed down the mixture with a glass of water before rolling out of the bed and towards the closet. He had to get his daily exercise and coffee from Beau’s Place.

Popping on his work out gear and Beats, Roddy set off on his run through the small community. The sun was on the rise and you could smell the summer in the air as the teenagers loaded up their cars for party filled weekends or even weeks. It was somewhat unbelievable to Rod what a difference a few years made between the drama he and his peers went through and the current crop of Edenridge kids and how easy it seemed for them.

A lot of the family run businesses were closing and there was a great sadness to that. For so long, the Edenridge neighbourhood stood self succulent away from its big brother Boston, yet by coincidence or consequence the rampage of Charlie Decker seems to not only just kill kids but seemed to kill the entire town. Maybe because he sniffed out the future, the place just died as it was.

Arriving at the homely looking Beau’s place, dripping in sweat, Rod ran in to be greeted by the warm smile of his former English teacher.

“Well, well; Roddy Callahan. You about thirty seconds later than yesterday. Your getting slow boy” The jolly man pressed a few buttons on his computer before setting off his machine. ”Chai latte and a biscotti?”

”My man” Roddy tapped his smartwatch on the card reader before moving to the end of the counter.

As he frothed the milk, Beau looked towards his former charge with a unique look.”You opened the mail yet today Rod?” The boy shook his head. ”There's another one of his journal entries. Whoever’s doing this, they added a caveat, something is happening at the school tonight. I don’t know what, I don’t wanna know. Do me a favour, don’t go. I chased you into that place once before, I don’t wanna do it again”

Deep breaths. Just another day.
