Talking with Melissa always lit a fire in him to get up to bad things that felt so good. Yet DeShawn had no plans on going buck wild tonight, he had promised to stay in his lane and not cause trouble. He knew that the scouts would be watching him like a hawk this year and turning up to games hanging out of his ass was not a good look for a future Division 1 Linebacker. His Uncle had made it very clear, one wrong step and Dee would be out on his ass and back in juvie before he could even blink. The big guy was doing his best to avoid trouble but Rosefell was full of temptation and he really wanted to bite that sweet sweet apple.

He had tried to catch up with Rico who seemed to be on a mission from God but the little guy was fast as fuck and definitely had his Freako on. Dee knew better than to try and stop him but he also knew that by the end of the night, he’d be the one likely peeling the guitar man off of the floor and sticking him in a Uber home. For all the friends he claimed to have, DeShawn really did believe that Enrique might be one of the loneliest people at Rosefell; he just knew how to hide it better than most.

It was that part of the night where people were pairing or grouping off and the mingling was coming to an end. Dee hung back as he so often did, just to watch over the people. To make sure that if there was a problem he could fix it. It was a role he had settled into nicely but sometimes it was a role he regretted taking. All the restrictions, all the rules he had set for him and that had set himself, he did wonder if it was all worth it. He was a kid, he should be having fun like everyone else. Yet he always stopped himself from going too far. Was he even good enough to get a scholarship? Or was it all just a pipe dream and he was destined to end up back on the corner?

Polishing off his drink, Dee headed off in search of another one. As he came up towards the kitchen, he noted his friend Jo singing on stage and he howled at her. She looked like she belonged up there. She was with Rico who seemed in a damn right better state than he had before. He smiled, for all the dark there was still
some light in the world.

Once he had placed his crate of fine craft beer onto a nearby table; Theo took the time to soak in his surroundings a little more. The music was loud and not exactly to his taste but it wasn’t his party and pissing off his dearest host Christian was not in his best interest; so he would stay quiet. A few fellow Libertine faces dotted around the room, knocking back beer and hooking up in corners; it was important to memorise these faces and these moments, he could most certainly use them against people later.

Watching with a not so subtle smile on his face as the boy whose ribs he’d crushed but moments before hobbled off out of the kitchen, Theo cracked open his first craft all of the evening. It wasn’t so much that he enjoyed inflicting pain (though he did) and he didn’t consider himself a bad guy (although he was) it was simply just part of his game. Some people needed to be played delicate and with finesse whilst others, well they just needed a swift kick in the teeth.

After the first taste of the sweet nectar had touched his lips, the football player noted a brunette approaching him. He has never seen her before, which likely meant she was a Rosefell girl. She had dark features, a good body and a choker, he was a sucker for a choker. The look in her eyes he had seen too many times before to be dazed but it was a party and he was entitled to some fun after working so hard. Theo raised up his drink in salute to the beauty that was about to join him and coupled it with a smile.

”Hi”

Truth to be told, Lilith wasn’t the most confident person. If it wasn’t for the drugs and mild amounts of alcohol in her system, you could bet money that she would never would have been bold enough to approach the mystery boy. But tonight was different.

Tonight was the first party of senior year. The pressure was on to set the tone for the rest of the school year, and Lilith was determined to have as much fun as possible. Sadly, ice breakers weren’t her strong suit - but at least he had said hi first.

”Hi,” she replied, giving her best fake smile. ”I couldn’t help but to spot you from across the room, and I was just wondering if you’d like to grab a drink or something?”

Oh this was adorable!

She was really trying!

It didn’t take a rocket scientist to work out that this girl was operating out of her comfort zone. In spite of her bold appearance there was a shyness to the way she spoke. In Theo’s experience that meant either there was literally nothing behind her eyes which would make this a tremendous waste of his time or it meant that she most likely had the best kind of daddy issues there were; the ones that make the good girls go bad. She was gorgeous, delicate with an obvious edge, perhaps he had a type? If all the riffraff of Rosefell was like this; there was surely a lot of fun to be had.

”I’d more than welcome the company” He could smell the weed flowing off of her and it certainly wasn’t the same shit that was flowing through the air. It was a distinct scent, her own brand. It wasn’t a massive turn off but it was food for thought. ”Theo, and what do they call you?”

”Lilith,” she stated proudly. ”Or Lil. Either way.” Glancing at the drink table the brunette picked up a bottle of Grey Goose and pondered her options for mixers. ”So how do you feel about this whole merge thing,” she asked. Small talk was another thing that Lilith wasn’t good at, but maybe her question could lead to an actual conversation.

”Lilith” She was named after a demon? That left a lot to be desired. Probably meant her parents were whacked out hippy bitches who raised her on smoke, sex and hammer horror movies. ”Nice to meet you, Lil”

She asked about the merger and Theo wondered whether he could be honest and say that the entire thing made him sick to his stomach. Having it be in the same room as some of these….”people” very much made his skin crawl. Was this the type of girl that could handle the bluntness of his opinion? Somehow Theo doubted it. ”It took me by surprise” The politician began. ”I can’t say I was over the moon when I heard about it, I won’t lie. High school is a minefield anyway and having to go through it all all over again, at a new place where most people probably inherently dislike you, not appealing. Still, I suppose it’s exciting, getting to see for real how the Rosefell side lives. What’s your stand on it?”

The way he echoed her name caused the corners of her mouth to lift ever so slightly. "Nice to meet you as well, Theo."

Picking up a bottle of pineapple juice, Lilith mixed it and the Grey Goose together in a cup as she listened to Theo speak. He spoke in a way that seemed oddly familiar - well thought out and somewhat strangely planned. It left more to be desired, but Lilith really wasn't interested enough to pry.

A gentle laugh escaped her lips as she turned around to prop herself up on a nearby counter top. "I wasn't happy either. I'm still not. Rosefell is a shitty school, and now our class sizes are even larger. Some of you Liberty kids seem to want to help tidy the place up, so I'll take it. Though most of you guys I've talked to have wound up to be really big assholes - present company excluded."

”Who says I’m not an asshole?”

Indeed most people would call Theo a lot worse than that, amongst that are a number of people he would consider friends. ”I suppose you’ll have to be the judge of that” He took a sip from his drink and took the time to admire the girl on the counter for a moment longer. ”I can’t speak for Rosefell but at Liberty, appearance is everything and it’s always been survival of the fittest. Any one you’ve met so far, they likely haven’t dropped that mentality just yet”

He edged a little closer to her, not enough to invade her space but enough to show interest and put his free hand on the counter by her. ”That’s a nice smile you have, I get the feeling people don’t see it very often do they?”

Eyes looking up to meet his, Lilith laughed nervously. ”I… no. No, it’s not.” Breaking the eye contact, Lilith took another large drink from her cup. ”Look. Small talk isn’t my forte - and while I did approach you because I was interested in grabbing a drink… I’m trying to find something fun to do. You seem like the kind of person that knows where to find the interesting things.”

Of course she wanted something; it made sense that these Rosefell scroungers wouldn’t have the class to hold a civil conversation without wanting to get something out of it. Still, he had to admire Lilith's moxy. He took another drink from his beer before responding ”Fair enough” Theo placed his drink onto the surface next to her before putting his hands in his pockets. ”There are a few options I could give you; you want pills or grass? I can get you the gourmet shit. You want dirt on your new Liberty classmates? I’ve got that too. You just want me to take you upstairs and fuck you like you deserve? I’m your man. Doesn’t really make a difference to me what you want, let me know and I’ll make it happen”

Theo's words resulted in Lilith nearly choking to death on the last of her drink. "Ya know, I was really aiming for something more like beer pong."

Her awkwardness was showing again, and the truth was she didn't really have much of a response for what Theo had said. She was already high as fuck, and she hated doing pills. There was no way she was going to sleep with him after ten minutes of conversation, or without Ellies approval. Why Lilith was shocked that Theo had returned her bluntness, she wasn't sure.

"I'm already high as a kite, I don't like gossip, and I'm not about to fuck in someone's house when I barely know said person." With her face turning a light shade of pink, Lilith cleared her throat. "I really hope I just didn't ruin this conversation," she blurted out.

Bless, she really was adorable

A shit eating grin lifted Theo’s lips and a slight chuckle escaped his throat. [color=E7C142]”Ruin? No, not at all. In fact, what you’ve done is make this whole thing a little more fun. I like it when someone can challenge my perception and I had you pegged wrong Lil. So beer pong?” He took a hand out of his pocket and offered it up to Lilith ”And if that gets boring, my place is only two blocks away. So if you don’t want to fuck here, we can it there”

As he often did, the intention behind Theo’s words were veiled and hidden behind his charm and smile. It could easily be taken as truth or in the same breath be seen as a joke. His ears pricked up as the backing music for their conversation changed to something entirely different and immediately struck him as being performed live by someone. ”That said, if you’re high enough we could dance or do karaoke?”

Thank gods, she thought.

There had been too many times where Lilith had ruined a conversation by saying the wrong thing, and she was thankful that now wasn't one of those times.

As he casually threw in the fact of how close his house was, Lilith's face turned even more red.

"Noted."

Taking Theo's hand, Lilith's face lit up at the activities that he had mentioned.

"Karaoke," she stated, already pulling him with her. "There's no way in hell I'm giving up the chance to see that."

”Lead the way”

Theo hadn’t intended on playing the sort of game he was involved in when he first got there but seeing Raven being her usual cheery self and just being surrounded by the dirty whore sons and daughters of the town riff raff made him want to cause a little trouble. Lilith was just the right sort of person to keep him distracted.

He followed the girl to the larger room where most of the other party guests had congregated to watch the performances on stage. The DJ had been switched out with a pretty blonde and the very same vato whose ribs he had tried to break for merely existing only minutes before.

”Look at this clown. He thinks it’s two thousand and one all over again”

"Gross," she laughed. Realizing that she was still holding his hand, Lilith let it drop before sticking her own hand in her pocket. "So what should we sing? Are you a… pop guy? Rap?"

”I’m whatever you want me to be” He cheesed in response.

Feeling her let go of his hand brought him an internal smile. This was way too easy. By the end of the first song she would be putty in his hand. ”Lets go, we got next” He re-took her hand again and used his considerably sized footballers frame to barge through the crowd as Rico and Jo finished their song and departed for pastures new. By the time they reached the stage, there were a few others waiting to clamber up and sing a reprise but one look from Theo and they began to move.

”Are you a girl of taste, Lil? What about Go Your Own Away?”

Lilith was more than happy to let the others go before them, but Theo appeared to have other plans. While the thought of seeing Theo potentially embarrass himself at karaoke was intriguing, Lilith was now painfully aware that she was the one who would probably be embarrassed. Ellie always told Lilith that she needed to work on her confidence; Maybe this was a step in the right direction.

”I have amazing taste,” she stated confidently. ”And I absolutely adore Fleetwood Mac.”

Glancing at the crowd, the young woman took a deep breath. ”Let’s do this.”

Life after high school is always scary.

For the kids that graduated from Edenridge High last year, that statement held a lot more meaning than one might think.

After four years marked by recurring tragedies, senior year was supposed to be a time to forget, to forgive, to dream and to love but one final devastating event not only affected the students of the school but the small community of Edenridge itself. A long road to recovery lay before the people of the Boston suburb and they could only head down it together. Upon a graduation that many did not think was going to happen, Edenridge High closed its doors and a class of students that many around them deemed cursed went off on their individual journeys into a myriad of uncertain futures.

One year later and old friends return to their Massachusetts hometown for the first summer after college. Some of them are well on their way to reaching the goals they set for themselves; others are struggling and are haunted by the events of the previous years. As the hot summer days wind on, these friends and classmates discover that the more things change, the more things stay the same and that sometimes love, friendships, challenges and triumphs last a little longer than the four years of high school.

Welcome home…

Hey all, first I have to thank you for popping interest here, it’s greatly appreciated. So the basic idea behind this RP is a group of young friends who graduated high school and headed off to do whatever and are now back home one year later for the summer. All these kids survived a horrific ordeal and are still coming to terms with it. The RP will follow these characters as they struggle with their own problems: employment, school, relationships, etc., as well as a vast spectre of a trauma that follows them around like a shadow.

The aim is to experience the good times, the bad times and everything in between. It will be a fairly collaborative piece and it will explore some mature content all of which will be tackled tactfully and accurately labelled with a trigger warning so as to not offend anyone.

Enough interest and I’ll start up a discord and we’ll go from there!

A @BrutalBx and @Melissa Collab

Perhaps it was the adrenaline pumping through his body from having been on stage that was cursing him with the thoughts that were now running through his head? Whatever the cause, Rico couldn’t shake the idea; he wanted to speak to Ellie, he needed to speak to her. Dutch courage was permeating his bones and he just couldn’t help himself. He had come to this party with the intention of avoiding her but the longer the night had gone on, the more it just didn’t feel right doing what he was doing, not without Ellie by his side.

Rico slapped his cheeks in a way to try and hype himself up and knock out some of the drugs. This was his chance, the brunette was alone. He knew if Lilith was there she’d probably put a foot up his ass and she’d be well within her rights to do so. He put a hand on her shoulder and tried to offer as much of a smile as he could muster.

”Hi El..”

The Not Too Distant Past

If I fall short
If I don't make the grade
If your expectations aren't met in me today
There's always tomorrow or tomorrow night
Hang in there, baby
Sooner or later, I know I'll get it right
Please don't give up on me

The night had begun as a celebration of love; Yasmin and Isaac had been together through thick and thin and had survived high school together. Now they were in college and home for the weekend to see family and friends. Yet there was another reason, one that involved a hefty diamond ring and a certain situation where one drops to a single knee. Needless to say, the pair needed a soundtrack for their love, one provided by the Latin loverboy; Enrique Suave.

There was a pinch of sadness with every lyric sung as Rico’s own love, Ellie Roberts, was not able to watch him perform on this night as she had to work. Without her there to keep some of his more wild tendencies in check, Rico found himself downing tequila shots and beer between every song and by the end of his set, he was drowning in liquid courage and foolhardiness.

As the night grew beyond the witching hour, the lovers evening had morphed into a rave and where an air of romance once hung, now stood drunken teenagers fighting, fucking and fucking up. Freako had emerged and like an animal off the leash, he was going for everything. Every drink, he blasted. Every line, he snorted, every beat, he danced. There was no stopping him until the world itself put him to sleep. Passed out on a couch, his once pristine white shirt now covered in a combination of alcohol, saliva and maybe cheese whiz? Rico could just about make out the figure of a friend leaning over him.

”Hey yo, Suave? Yo, Rico were heading to Quinn’s you coming? Rico?! Fuck man, he ain’t coming nowhere. Queen, go tell Hunter I’ll catch up with ya’ll. Imma make sure this fool gets home” DeShawn used his mighty strength to pull Rico over his shoulder and carried him out of the party and into a quieter room.

”....Dee...you...you’re...you’re a huge fucker you know that? Like...you must be the best big spoon ever...wait am I flying? Si no te hubieras caído, no te hubiera encontrado ángel volando demasiado cerca del suelo.”

Dee shook his head. He was missing quality time with Melissa for this clown. Everybody loves Rico...except fucking Rico himself it seemed. ”Motherfucker, I have no idea what you just said but if you just tried to suave me imma whoop your ass. I swear on my beautiful mother’s soul.” He laid the drunken troubadour down onto his side to prevent him from vomiting into his own mouth and proceeded to pull out his cell; he would stay with the clown until he got him a ride or knew he was safe from himself.

Hey yo Ellie, you might wanna come get your boi. Freako out on form tonight...

Ellie found herself sweeping the floor of the Yellow Rose Diner, humming along mindlessly to the melodies of Rico’s songs that she had memorized as the last customers departed for the evening. Even though she had wanted to be there in person to watch her boyfriend perform, like most weekend nights she was on the clock. Fridays and Saturdays were some of the best nights to work as they were the busiest, which made it hard for the girl to pass up on. So as much as it hurt her to miss out on the fun she could be having, it was in her best interests (as well as her bank account’s best interest) to pick up those lucrative shifts.

The brunette felt her cell phone buzz from the pocket of her apron, and she couldn’t help but get excited thinking that it was her love trying to get a hold of her. But, to her dismay, it wasn’t from him but it was definitely about him. She felt a twang at the pit of her stomach as she read the text, knowing that if someone was telling her to come and get Rico, it was a bad night. Ellie sighed, and within minutes, she was locking up the doors of the Diner and heading out to her car to go and fetch him. As she drove down the quiet streets with the windows down and the music off, she couldn’t help but wonder what kind of trouble Rico had gotten himself into this time- he already knew how she felt about his addictive habits, but he still refused to change his ways which continually frustrated her.

It was evident where the party was happening as Ellie turned down the road, music pulsating and flooding into the endless night, guiding her path. Parking in front of the house, she sent DeShawn back a text letting him know that she was here to get her boyfriend, much to her own chagrin.

By the time that Ellie’s message had come through, Rico had all but passed out and Dee was enjoying the silence. With a great sigh, the linebacker gently shook the other boy awake. ”Yo Suave, your girl is here…”

”ELLIE!” Enrique emerged from his slumber and clawed at the air, hoping for the warm embrace of one Miss Roberts but finding instead the somewhat hairy tasting carpet of Yasmin Hazel’s spare room. ”I didn’t know they had a cat...”

”Come on, big guy.” Once again Dee found himself throwing the mariachi over his large shoulders and carrying him out of the party. He spotted Ellie’s old Toyota Camry in front of the house and swiftly made his way over. Rico was not a small guy but even now, Dee made carrying him look easy. He pulled open the back door and laid Enrique down on the back seat as gently as he could. ”Sorry about this, Roberts. Didn’t want to leave him there, didn’t know who else to call. Good luck. Catch you round the way, Suave.” DeShawn nodded towards Ellie before closing the door behind him and heading off to go catch up with Melissa and the others.

Rico stirred for a moment before sitting up like the Undertaker and turning towards his love. ”Oh, Ellie te extrañé esta noche mi amor, I was on fire tonight. I missed you beautiful.”

As soon as Dee appeared with her boyfriend hanging over his shoulder like a sack of potatoes, Ellie was faced with the unfortunate reality that tonight was worse than what she was expecting it to be. Part of her had hoped he would have been able to walk to her car on his own, maybe stumbling a bit, but that was wishful thinking. With a berated sigh, she turned to Dee, putting on a brave face for show. “It’s okay, you did the right thing by calling me. Thanks, Dee.” She expressed her genuine appreciation as the boy disappeared towards their peers and she was left to see her boyfriend home.

Ellie looked up at her rearview mirror and gazed at her love in the reflection. “I missed you too, baby, but I’m going to take you home okay?” She replied, hiding any indication of worry in her voice as she put the car into drive and headed towards the direction of Rico’s house. She knew the way by heart even in the darkness, and hoped his parents would be preoccupied enough for her to sneak him in the side door without them noticing. As per usual. “If you feel like you’re going to be sick, just give me a heads up and I’ll pull over.” The last thing Ellie needed right now was to have to explain to her father why she needed her car detailed for free again…

”I am never sick!” Rico projected his confidence at all times, even in a state like he was in. Yet as with most confident people, reality has a way of biting back as it did in this moment when the song and dance man began to feel a churning in his gut. ”Just in case though..” He shuffled to the side and rolled down one of the windows, the cold night breeze hitting him like a much needed slap to the face.

The brunette girl would’ve laughed at her boyfriend’s protest had it not been the same broken record every other time she’s had to collect him from his revelries.

Watching the street lights roll by like a scene from one of arty Ryan Gosling films, Enrique shifted his gaze to Ellie; a passing car illuminating the look on her face which even in his mess of a state, Rico could not mistake for anything else than what it was. All they needed was a synth wave soundtrack and they would be in an art house movie. ”Hang in there, baby. Sooner or later, I know I'll get it right. Please don't give up on me.” He sang for a moment before stopping. These moments were rare, where a song couldn’t help a situation but they did happen.

The fresh air continued to hit the romancer with waves of sobering clarity. ”There's a song in my culture, it’s called Malagueña Salerosa. It tells the story of two lovers and specifically how the man is poor and not good enough for the woman. It’s a legend of a song. My...I...do you know what I mean? I think it’s our song….cause I love you Ellie, I really do, but I’m not sure I’m good enough for you. You deserve better.”

She glimpsed back at him once more before returning her gaze forward to the road they were currently on, shaking off his lyrics and song merely as a blackout soundtrack. It wasn’t the first time he had broken out into song while intoxicated- in fact, it was quite normal for him to do- so Ellie wholeheartedly ignored his singing as she accelerated. But the following words he spoke seemed to hit her right in the gut, and she dismissed them all too quickly. “Shhh, it’s fine. Everything is fine, we’re almost there.” The girl soothed.

Never had Rico before held any poignant truth in his drunken state, but Ellie couldn’t help but wonder, did he mean that? No, no he didn’t. He couldn’t have; they were a picture perfect couple- well, except for her continually growing disdain for moments like this- and the love they had was real. Shaking off her anxieties, she clutched the steering wheel just a bit tighter, turning on her blinker to indicate another right turn as they passed by the Rosefell football field.

He could feel his eyes getting heavier and heavier by the second but he didn’t want to stop looking at Ellie; she was his heart and to stop looking at her would be for his heart to stop beating. He was sliding deeper down the back seat and was all but ready to pass out again but quickly Rico pulled himself back up to a seated position as they got closer to his home.

As the world around him span, Enrique envisioned happier moments in his life, most of which involved Ellie. He remembered their early friendship and the night that it blossomed into romance and the last six months. Yet between those fleeting dreams he felt the pang in his chest, the feeling of something not quite right. He could see the tiredness in her eyes, the exhaustion from dealing with his burning candle lifestyle. She did not deserve to be the one to pick up the pieces of his fractured self. She did not deserve to be just another unfinished song. Ellie Roberts was a ballad of love and joy to be shared with the world and not be pulled down, torn up and left on the cutting room floor. Rico resolved to be better for her...tomorrow.

When the Toyota pulled up outside of La Munica; a gasp of breath escaped from his throat and enough sense returned to Rico’s body that he leaned forward to Ellie’s drivers seat. ”Thank you.”

As she put the car into park, Ellie turned around to meet her boyfriend’s eyes. She could tell just by gazing into them that he was not all there- the ride and the cool evening breeze having resurrected him somewhat, but for the most part he was still gone; just a shell of her love that was hidden underneath alcohol and drugs. It was what she disliked most about nights like these. “Let’s get you inside, casanova.” She tried to smirk and add some humor, but the muscles around her lips refused to cooperate as she emotionlessly unbuckled her seat belt and got out of the car, ready to assist Rico stumble into the house and make it to his room in one piece.

The brunette pulled the boy from the backseat and onto his feet, slugging one of his arms over her shoulder as she began to guide him towards the side door that she had learned his parents didn’t use. It was nearly 2AM, which meant they were fast asleep by now, but she still wanted to be quiet enough as to not to alert them. Man, she could’ve really used Dee’s muscle at this moment.

It was an ingenious escape route; the kitchen to La Munica had all but become the hub of the home thanks to its central location and link directly into the family restaurant. Little did the Nunez’s know that Enrique had unbolted the side door that led directly into the pantry. No one ever checked and it was perfect for his late evening escapades of sneaking out or sneaking Ellie in. Not that he needed to, Rico’s parents loved Ellie. They loved having her round for dinner, having her taste their new recipes and her general positive presence in their wayward son's life. She was a grounding factor that they appreciated as before her, Rico was a mess.

The pair stumbled into the house as quietly as they could; at least in Ellie’s case, the drunken boy was too busy smelling whatever his chef father had cooked up that evening. ”Oh...oh babe let’s go to the kitchen! It smells so good!” He began to pull towards the cooking area, only for Ellie to act as resistance and pull him the other way towards the stairs. In his current state, Rico could not fight back. She had covered his mouth with her hand as they crept onwards; part of him thought maybe this was some new kink she had learned, which of course he’d be down for, Suave would try anything once but alas it was not the case as a small slither of logic slipped into his brain and told him he was probably just being too loud.

Once the hand reached the top of the stairs, Rico’s eyes were drawn to a photo of his parents. It was one taken when Enrique was but a babe. A passerby snapped a young couple in love and gave them a gift for life. Pedro and Monica’s love story burned bright from the moment their eyes first met on Playa Chac-Mool beach; her, a sun kissed Goddess and him, a struggling food cart assistant. The way they told it, it was like a bolt of lightning permeating their bodies and binding them together forever. Rico was enamoured with their story and how for them, love made the world go round. It was why he would constantly seek it; it was what led him to ask Ellie out to begin with. He couldn’t help but wonder if that dread feeling that hung between him and the brunette now once also separated his parents.

By the time the young lovers had made it to Rico’s bedroom, it had felt like an eternity had passed from the moment Ellie had picked him up. There was a tension, it was sharp and cutting and it was not a nice feeling. He flopped onto the bed but managed to pull himself up to face her. Truly if angels walked among them, Eleanor Roberts was one. Enrique placed his hands upon her hips and rested his head against her midsection.

”Are you gonna stay tonight?”

As the girl stood there, relieved that they had made it to their destination without much hassle, she sighed as her boyfriend’s touch calmed her. She let her hands find their way to his head almost on instinct, running her fingers through his hair as she decided what her next move was. At this point, she was too concerned about his well-being to leave him, and not to mention she was exhausted from the tiring shift she had just worked at the Yellow Rose and didn’t want to get behind the wheel again. “Yeah. Yeah, I’ll stay.” Ellie replied quietly. She kept one hand on his head and took out her phone with the other, texting her mother saying that she was crashing at Lil’s, and texting Lil asking her to cover for her.

With the minor details taken care of, the brunette sighed as she helped Rico get out of the stained and dirtied clothes that he had found himself in. She took advantage of the placement of his arms and grasped the bottom hem of his shirt, pulling the fabric over his head. What the hell did he get on himself this time? Not even wanting to ask, she moved to take off his shoes, socks, and pants, tossing the garments into the half-full laundry basket that sat in the corner of his room. Only then did Ellie slip off her own shoes and peel off her uniform from work, finding an oversized tee shirt in her boyfriend’s dresser to throw over her head and wear to sleep. Walking back to the bed, she sat down on the edge and looked over at Rico, who’s eyes were glazing over. “Let’s get some sleep, I think we both need it.” The girl stated, her words mostly falling on deaf ears as she hid the conflicted emotions that she felt inside.

The weight of the world, the cocaine and the booze pulled Rico down to the mattress like a ton of bricks and he grumbled in compliance with his girlfriend. He put his hand on Ellie’s and guided her down next to him, wrapping her up tightly in his arms. ”I love you.” He kissed her in habit as he began to fall into lucid champagne dreams.

As the snoring began, Rico’s bedroom door opened and the head of his mother Monica poked around the frame. Ellie jumped, surprised that she was still awake, but her boyfriend didn’t budge as he was already knocked out cold.

“Thank you for taking care of him, Eleanor.” She whispered. “But it’s time to start thinking about taking care of yourself, mi amor. Goodnight.” She blew a kiss to the young girl before softly closing the door to the lover’s room behind her.

Ellie's eyes remained wide open as her head rested on Rico’s bare chest, feeling the rhythmic pattern of his breathing which normally would have lulled her right to sleep. But her boyfriend’s drunken words from earlier in the car, as well as his mother’s shocking advice, repeated over and over in her head, keeping her awake for god knows how long. One question remained in the brunette’s head as she finally let sleep come over her.

Were they both right?

A @BrutalBx & @KatKook Collab

Enrique could not take his eyes off of Ellie; the way she was moving, the way she looked, she was as perfect as she could have been and it made him loathe himself even more. He wanted to lose himself even more. It wasn’t until he felt Jo’s hand on his forearm that he was able to snap out of his daze and acknowledge her with a look.

Hop on the mic? Is that what she just said? Rico would be lying if he said the thought hadn’t crossed his mind when he first arrived. The DJ was good and he was throwing out some great tunes but in his experience there was nothing like a live act. From both sides of the stage, on and off there was a raw connection that could only be felt when performing and being performed to. One could reach out and touch the world and the world could hold your hand back through the medium of love music.

There were few people who understood this in Rico’s bubble but Jo was one of those few. They had shared a stage and a mic many times during the summer and he had even coached her a little. The girl had talent but just needed someone to push her in the right direction, luckily or perhaps unluckily for her, Enrique was just that sort of bastard.

”Oye, JoJo. You wanna play on that stage? We can make that happen, mi estrella” Rico did his best to clear the cobwebs in his mind formed by his indulgence in cocaine and booze before carrying on. ”I’d say make yourself look pretty but you’re already looking diez perfecto. Go sweet talk the DJ, think about what you want to sing and I’ll go find a guitar. Sound good?”

Seeing that look on Rico’s face after suggesting such a thing made Jo’s face light up, she knew he was on board before she even asked, but of course, being Jo, she had to ask. Rico then started to explain his plan, and Jo could not help but smile.

"Pretty? Yeah! With my totally existent femine charm." Said Jo, she knew she was not exactly the most girly of girls, especially being part of the main roster of the women’s basketball team. "But hey! I’ll give it my best shot, you go on and find that guitar." She said practically shooing him off.

She fixed her hair, and tried to keep her drunkenness from affecting what she was going to say but she knew it was not exactly easy. She quickly fixed up as much as she could and went over to the DJ. She looked the man on the turntables up and down and started with.

"Hey! You’re doing a great job!" What the fuck was she saying at this point? Great job? What is she, this guy’s mom? "I mean… I… I like the way your hands move on those spinny thingies- turntables." Alright, maybe she is hammered.

As this weird interaction goes on, she sure hopes that Rico is doing a better job than her.

As Jo headed off on her mission, Rico let out a great sigh. He had to get Ellie out of his head and music was probably the healthiest escape route he had. He darted through the crowd of drunk teens, doing his best to avoid meeting eyes with his ex. He wound up somehow upstairs; moving from room to room doing his utmost in his current state of mind not to trash every inch of them whilst he hunted for a six string.

He didn’t know much of their host Christian as the guy was a Liberty but from what little rumours he had heard, the kid was into music, which meant that there had to be a guitar somewhere in this McMansion. As he began to feel that his journey was fruitless, Enrique found one more room he had yet to destroy and sure enough, there they were; multiple, beautiful, sleek axes of varying types.

”Fuck yeah”

Now came the hard part of deciding which guitar he would steal. It would hinge on what type of songs Jo would want to sing. He thought back to their summer duets. Her voice was quite soft but there was a power to it, there was soul. Electric guitar was definitely not the way to go. He grabbed a gorgeous looking piece and slung it over his back. Time to do work. He began to hurry down the stairs when he noticed Jo at the DJ decks.

”JO! I GOT ONE!”

"-I know, hey, just hand me a few mics okay?" She said, giving the guy a few pats on his hand before she turned to Rico. She saw him holding the guitar and she quickly made her way over to him. She looked at the guitar and thought about what they could do for a second.

"So… What do you have in mind? You wanna do Bailando or something?" She asked, she was pretty much down to sing anything as long as it was tasteful of course.

It was not lost on him that he shared a name, a vocation and a passing resemblance with one Enrique Iglesias and he had heard pretty much every joke that could be made when he moved to Ohio seven years ago. It was also not a rare thing for people to request he sing the famous Latin idols songs. Hell a lot of the time he did for the lolz and tonight would be no different. If that’s what Jo wanted, then that’s what she would get.

Rico tuned the guitar he was holding. Finding the right sound was a difficult task. Ask any of his friends that would watch home zone out mid conversation as he worked on getting the strum just right. He looked up at Jo and did his best to stop his eyes from watering. ”If you wanna do Enrique then I say let’s take it old school. You know Escape? I can do that acoustic and alternate the Spanish, get the DJ to add a few beats too. Could be sick”

Joanne nodded at Rico before gesturing with her head to follow her, she made her way to the DJ station and told him to hop on the stage next to it. She called for the DJ to help her set up everything, and he obliged surprisingly enough, was Jo supposed to pay him extra for this? She has about… 6 dollars. Hopefully he was not the type.

As soon as the mics were set up Jo looked at Rico and nodded at him, she looked through the crowd to see Sam sat there, she could not be more thankful that people like her are staying for her antics. She tapped the mic a few times which definitely caught the attention of some people. She blinked as soon as eyes were now on her and she took a deep breath before speaking.

"Didn’t really plan this but whatever right?" She looked deep into the crowd until her eyes met Sam’s, "This one’s for you." She said in a deeper voice than usual. She looked at Rico, waiting for his cue to start.

”Make sure you move, mami. This ain’t a song for standing still”

Rico made the sign of the cross as he did before every performance and took a deep breath as he began to pluck at the strings of the guitar. In a strange way, being on a stage was a sobering experience. He had lost count of the times he had been performing and was probably six drinks and four lines deep when he started only to feel sober by the end. It was likely the electricity that coursed through his veins whenever he got to do anything like this. On the floor, Enrique was a mess, on a stage, Rico was at home.

He leaned into the microphone that he was now sharing with Joanne and smiled at her. He had been pushing her for weeks to get out of her comfort zone and this was it. This was the time.

”Here's how it goes, you and me, up and down
But maybe this time we'll get it right, worth the fight
'Cause love is something you can't shake
When it breaks
All it takes is some trying”

The base then hit, the DJ even made it sound better than it originally was, which was a little feat by itself because how often can you improve Enrique Iglesias. Jo’s foot was tapping when it started and when it was her turn she was bouncing like she was the most excited person on earth, one hand locked on the mic while the other was dancing along to the beat.

"If you feel like leaving
I'm not gonna beg you to stay
But soon you'll be finding
You can run, you can hide
But you can't escape my love
You can run, you can hide
But you can't escape my love
"

”Hoy, si te vas, ya verás
Que no es tan fácil olvidar
Sabe bien, sabe mal
Como sea, pero es tan real
Que al final
Lo demás no te importa, no, no, yeah”

With a switch to Spanish, Enrique heard a select group of young ladies (and men) drop a collective squeal. It was arguably the move over thing he ever did on stage whenever he jumped to his native tongue. For some reason it drove people wild.

The crowd was obviously getting into it; the flowing mind altering chemicals probably helped but who was he to judge? He glanced over towards Joanne and it was like he could see the music flowing through her body as she moved in rhythm. She was like him, even if she didn’t know it, she belonged up here. The spotlight was meant to be hers. He looked out towards the crowd of dancing teens and began to play a little faster, doing what he could with his feet and hips to dance as he strummed away. Locking eyes with the brunette in the middle of the room, his heart began to pump blood around his body at an incredible rate as he remembered playing this song to her multiple times. Subconsciously, maybe that’s why he was playing it now; for her.

As Jo sang her heart out, she saw in the corner of her eye that she was not the only one singing for someone in the crowd. That was something they shared, that and their love for performing and singing.

"That felt amazing!" She said to Rico as the song ended, Jo gave Rico a little hug and was too ecstatic to not thank the crowd, "Hope you guys like that! My name’s Joanne- Jo Lynn, this was Rico Nunez! Have a good night everyone!" she exclaimed, albeit she was a little out of breath since she usually performed songs not as energetic as what she had just done but it was a great change of pace. She turned to Rico and nodded at him, "Let’s do this again yeah?"

She then hopped off the stage and made her way through the crowd making her way back to Samantha. As she went through the crowd, people started complimenting her and it really felt great, hopefully Sam loved it as much as she loved doing it.

”You shone bright Estrellita” Rico took a final bow to the crowd before jumping down from the stage himself and allowing the DJ to get back to work. He made his way down through the crowd of congratulatory people but there was only one person whose opinion he cares about and his eyes hidden left her since the moment he got on stage.
