Storytellers Haven — Concept’s 1x1 Thread [Closed]

Welcome to my 1x1 thread! I’m Concept and I’m in search of telling good stories. This will be my base thread for all my searches going forward.

So I’m looking for a partner for a character-driven story to role play.

My ideal partner:
Age 18+
IRL gender is irrelevant
Communicative
Consistent poster (whatever your interval, just be consistent)
Alright with adding their own lore, development, and ideas as the story goes on, a true collaborative effort

My RP preferences:
Platonic relationship—you can add romance with any NPCs you want, but my character and yours will remain platonic, good or even best friends at most.

Quality over quantity. Post length is high casual to advanced, 3-5 paragraphs of substance, but a quality post is always the most preferred.

I’ll RP on the guild or through PMs, but not through email/docs or anything like that. Just my preference.

My posting schedule is likely weekly unless I get unexpected time to do another. Otherwise, you can at expect once a week at least.

On to the ideas.

All The Lights In The Sky Are Stars

I’m calling the story All The Lights In The Sky Are Stars. It follows a smuggler(whom I’ll be playing) and a special operations agent as they are paired together to take on an off-book black operation. When things go wrong, they decide to investigate exactly the reason they were set up, who wants them gone, and why. A sci-fi thriller, if you will.

The plot is simple because this will be a character-driven story and our decisions will drive the plot in whatever direction it needs to go.

The Last of Us

This would be an AU with OCs as I’m not much a fan of playing established characters. This would be a character-driven RP with a simple set up. Our characters are mercenaries who take contracts from the highest bidding factions. They are tasked with stealing medicine from the Fireflies by the WLF. They are meeting one another for the first time and are used to working alone, but have to learn to work together in order to survive when things go wrong.

That’s the set up. Our collaborative decisions guide the story from there. Sounds simple, but could be developed nicely in IC with strong characterization.

A Sun-Kissed Blade

This one is much less fleshed out than I’d like it to be, but that’s the fun of collaboration right? I really only have a yearning for a low fantasy, character-driven story about wandering former knights now moonlighting as mercenaries and getting caught up in misadventures. I’m up for ideas and suggestions on it of course.

Assassin’s Creed: Creedfall

Having just gotten Mirage, I’m feeling an AC role play. The story would follow two master assassins whose loyalty, ideals, and very core are tested when they learn that Creed may be no better than the Order. How will they decide to live when they’ve lived by a Creed their whole lives? This is another barebones, skeleton of an idea that needs to be fleshed out. It’d be character-driven of course and I haven’t decided what historical time period it would take place in, but I know it wouldn’t be modern day.

EDIT—The role play would take place in a fictional city-state in Africa in 1320 ce during the height of the Mali empire under Mansa Musa’s rule. The two master Assassin’s would be meeting in the fictional city-state of Johari from different Hidden Ones guilds across the world. As they are eliminating targets for their joint mission, they come to realize that they are not being told everything about the targets and the Creed itself may not be any better than The Order. They must decide if they will remain loyal or seek out a brand new purpose in the city of Johari all the while potentially having both Assassins and Order cultists at their backs

J.A.E.G.E.R

This would be a character-driven military/spy thriller following two characters belonging to an extralegal military program—Judicious Auxiliary Extralegal Group Extermination Reaver—whose members are trained to take on high value targets and prevent cataclysmic or catastrophic circumstances from occurring. The story would follow the duo through their daily lives both on and off mission and showcase how their personal and professional worlds can collide in unexpected ways when they are suddenly called away to handle a threat that could have dire consequences nationwide or even globally in complete clandestine silence.

The characters would be partners on mission, but have individual lives off mission such as different friend groups, families, etc. They would still be friends off mission and have the chance to hang out and what have you.

Alt(ER)[Native]

The Cataclysm changed everything.

After that phenomenon rocked the world, humanity evolved. The manipulation of solid matter gnawed at our fingertips, pumped through our veins, yet nothing good came of it. War raged on until there was nothing left to loot or steal or claim for anyone. That was three hundred years ago, according to the old books anyway. The world is different now.

Nature has reclaimed her place as the majority. The old cities fell and new ones rose in their place. Old government crumbled and in its place, lawlessness became the order of chaos. The closest thing to organization nowadays are the guilds and the biggest among them is ER—Equivalent Retribution. They like to think of themselves as peacekeepers, law enforcement types who use their abilities to create what they see and call civilization. The only guild who opposes them outright are the Natives. Resistance fighters who believe the new free form way of life is a godsend. And in between is everyone else.

We all need food. We all need water. We all scavenge and we all have to deal with the Alts—creatures who were once human, but lost their humanity to The Plague, a sickness that comes with using our supernatural abilities too much. Our powers decimated the need for guns, but we’ve all gone back to the old ways. Swords, shields, maces, hammers, if you’ve seen it in an old medieval movie, we’ve got it now. It’s all so surreal. It’s all we now know.

So who will you be? We’re all somebody. We all live our lives day to day trying to make the best of it. Nobody is good and nobody is bad. Everyone is just a person surviving as best they can. Making decisions that work best for them. Connecting with everyone else in a way that works for them. I’m just a man who likes reading the old books, but at the end of the day, I’m a person same as anyone else who hasn’t become an Alt. So I’ll ask only one more time.

Welcome to my original role play, Alternative. This serves to gauge interest of course, but some facts about the RP:

Alternative is a character-driven, sandbox style open world RP where the players and their character drama create the stories. Players are free to interact with one another or tell whole stories of their own using their own created NPCs and locations within the world of Alternative. As GM, I’ll pepper the story with interactive world events from time to time players can take part in which are more focused stories with beginnings, middles, and ends and I’ll also have my own player character that will be living their life as well.

Think of Alternative as a sort of supernatural, slice-of-life, character action role play. It’s a mature, 18+, gritty, grim dark kind of game as well so be prepared. Life isn’t always so kind in what it throws at us and how it depicts it.

That’s enough detail for now. The final thing is in spite of the way it sounds, this will be a small group RP, high casual, so I’m looking for five players to join up. As of now, I’m only checking interest in the idea itself. If this gains enough interest, I’ll work up an OOC with more details.

Ugh. I've had a terrible week. Sorry for the radio silence. My company just changed their policies and everything in the most dramatic way possible and I'm trying to plan this trip and my call shifts have been super busy. I'm still here though! Getting back to my post tonight. Sorry again, I didn't forsee this kind of week happening. It's been truly crazy.

On the flip side, I friggin' love that new GIF. That's the best representation of Grant I've seen outside of the character picture I posted for him. And I only say that because that's how I envisioned him when I was creating the character. Grizzled with a beard and medium-length hair. However, your GIF with this look for Hardy is really really good. Reminds me of Grant so much haha. Helps when writing my post too, just so you know.

Oh, I'm definitely down for a playlist! I'm not too knowledgable with music, but I trust your judgment. Your song choices for Liana have been grade A thus far in my opinion. It'll be interesting to see what you come up with. It's a sign of the things you're thinking about for this RP and I'll take it as a glimpse into your mind hahaha.

Sorry, I'm just now getting back from my bday weekend. And I took today to clean my place and get it organized again. Feels like I haven't been home in forever haha. I have Disney+ free through Verizon for a year and I watched The Mandalorian too. Absolutely spectacular. Star Wars should have been a TV show years ago though I understand the show is extremely expensive to produce.

I'm glad you said that! The Winter Soldier is still, to me, the single best Marvel movie out of all of them--including Endgame and Infinity War. Why do I say that? It's the only movie I can show someone who doesn't care anything about superheroes or the MCU at all and they would not only understand it, they would enjoy it. It's a movie that exists within its own right while also. connecting to the others in clever ways if you've seen them. And it shocked the hell out of me when I saw it in theaters because I was not a Captain America fan before that. That highway fight is still one of the best fight scenes in the whole MCU, I swear. My top three goes:

1. Winter Soldier
2. Infinity War (I love a movie that follows a villain and he even winds in the end. It was a fucking perfect movie for that alone. And that villain was amazingly handled as well.
3. Civil War / Endgame (I can't decide between the two cause Civil War had balls to the wall action and everyone was getting it in. It also featured a villain who actually won in the end and the ramifications of what he did were even felt all the way up until Endgame if you really paid attention. It was perfect. But then Endgame wrapped up the series so beautifully and I cried all three times I watched Tony Stark sacrifice himself in theaters. Coming full circle after ten years was emotional. But it was a perfect ending to me. So they're tied for third haha.

Side note--Where'd you get the images for your new avatar and sig???? Did I miss a trailer release for WandaVision or what?! I'm all in on the MCU--or at least, I was until Endgame. Endgame ended things so perfectly for me that I wasn't even mad when all the movies got delayed cause of the pandemic. I'm still fine taking a break from Marvel movies. But. I want to see the Disney+ shows though. Super contradictory, but I really want to see those haha. Looking forward to Falcon and the Winter Solider the most.
