You can call me DC.

Been roleplaying about 9+ years now. Trying different websites out to see what happens, so, if I happen to have encountered you before, don't be afraid to give a shout out.

I work nights and am usually up for most hours of the day. Because of that, I'm often running on no sleep, so that's a thing.

Kila was on the ladder in wait for those of his squad to cross. Despite trying to keep cool outwardly, he was feeling himself get more tense as time ebbed forward. The other squad had more opportunity to simply beat them in both tasks and that wasn’t a good look. He didn’t want to get reprimanded in his first training session when the tasks given were so simple given their qualifications.

That was when he heard a boom from the top, unfortunately from the end of Black Canary’s team. Possibly Alisa using some robotic ability to get across. Though the body that flew above the pit briefly was not hers. Instead, it was the Talon boy from earlier. He did not have as graceful of a landing, not even makin it to the other side. He instead crashed into the wall of the pit and had to hold on for dear life.

Kila wondered what the hell happened for them to suddenly change the strategy they had been using. The only logical guess would be that the guy decided to go on his own terms. Regardless, he was in a difficult situation now. At first it may have seemed like something they could handle, just the two members of their squad who made it across to just pull him up.

Casper had attempted to do so, it appeared, with Daphne following in suit. Though it wasn’t long before Daphne cried out for help. Actually turning his head to get his first good look at the drop. From the looks of it, this would be no good for anyone if he were to fall down there. Kila was annoyed that the Talon boy literally didn’t look before he leapt as the saying went. That was when his eye caught the movement of Daphne’s hair.

A wave of the feeling from earlier swept over him...The strange primal urge swept through his system as Daphne’s power reacted out of distress again. Help Talon. It was a heavily conflicting feeling from when it was originally Daphne on the receiving end of Talon’s assault earlier. Kila felt conflict on whether or not he should actually aid them or not. That was when he heard the gasping of breath, looking to see that Daphne’s vines begun to constrict Talon’s neck.

In that moment, the decision made itself. He wouldn’t ignore the instinct this time, and thus Kila embraced it. Turning around on the bottom of the ladder, he pulled his feet up to shorten the extension of it. The end closer to their objective had been tugged back just enough to scape the dirt wall of the pit on the way down. Kila held tight to the top to keep it secure and prevent himself from free falling. Quickly shifting his eyes back down though, gravity was clearly weighing down on the falling edge and it started falling father. Kila shoved his legs into the rungs to extend the ladder again, stuffing the end into the corner of the pit.

When it seemed to be locked in its diagonal position, Kila dropped to the bottom from about halfway. He took a breath to alleviate some of the adrenaline in his system before continuing. While strong-arming the ladder’s position to aim to being right beside Talon’s position, he heard Kassandra’s voice.

Aiming his head up, he caught sight of Kassandra cutting the strangling hair. That was one problem in progress of being solved. He admired her initiative in not standing by to watch when things clearly hadn’t gone as planned.

In which case, when close enough, Kila climbed up the ladder as quickly as he could. With the group that held to Talon’s arms, Kila grabbed up his legs as he was stepping up. As he neared the top though, the ladder’s extension integrity began to weaken.

Thus, as the natural inclination was to hurry, he skipped a few rungs per step. It was when he was nearly to the top that he heard a click. Realizing what had happened, he jumped at the last second to launch himself the rest of the way with half of Talon’s body.

Kila managed to clear the jump just barely with Talon’s lower half as the ladder closed and fell the rest of the way down. With his lungs and heart rate catching up to the actions he had just performed, Kila stepped away from the group sitting on the ground.

Well...He had failed the challenge, miserably due to emotions within that felt foreign to him...but at the very least Talon would hopefully be alright. He’d accept the punishment for his deviance later.

Kila watched the spirit boy as Viktor had thrown him across the gap. For whatever reason now, he did not feel the threatening pulse from earlier, despite now being much close to him. Otherwise, launching each other across was an interesting method, one that they could have similarly employed. Though, asking the Princess to throw them across was, for one, needlessly dangerous.

Secondly, it wouldn’t help her get across as her restriction limited her flight. One miscalculated gesture could send any one of them hurtling to the bottom of the pit, and in effect losing the challenge of the course.

Walking over to the ladder Zatara had reconstructed as Kila had tasked him with, he threw it over his shoulder. Bringing it to the gap, the young Vet pushed it out to full extension. Having the same length as the monkey bars, Kila laid it out across the gap. While it cleared from one end to the other perfectly, he extended his palm to the team.

”It is not fully stable to cross just yet. I am going to the center to hold it open from beneath. That way, you lot can walk across without a misstep compromising the bridge. Once across, I will follow.” Kila explained.

Now moving toward the edge, Kila took a breath. Going down on all fours to evenly distribute his weight, he crossed it like one would climb up the ladder vertically. Once at the center, where the extension point was, he went to the under side of the ladder extending his limbs on the bars. This was done to maintain the tension of the extension as well as use his weight to keep the ladder grounded.

While under there, he watched as Daphne flew over him and the pit. He growled a little under his breath, still insulted by their teachers’ decision.

”Go now!”

Kila watched each of them as they followed, noting each of their particular ways of getting across. Which, they worked through it more regularly than he did, granted he was rushing to account for lost time. That was when he heard ‘Ja’ come from Felix’s mouth and Kila’s eyes narrowed. More recently he had been hearing his Amai’s nickname for him continue to spill from the mouth of more people. It irked him that someone else decided to start calling him that and somehow it started to catch on.

However, his reservations about the name could wait for another time. Instead, he turned his head to Kassandra as she complimented his agility. The boy shrugged, unsure as to how to respond at first. He hadn’t received many compliments on his skill before. ”It comes from much practice...but...thank you.” He responded quietly with a pause, eyeing Zach as he got across.

Unamused by the nickname about as much as he was by everything else the magician had displayed so far, Kila almost replied. However, Aleen’a’s phrase caught his attention. Turning around to actually look in the direction of the remaining obstacles, the Meta’s eyes narrowed.

As it seemed, because of the wait time that was required of the princess’ wall breaking feat, they decided they were taking too long. So instead of waiting and chastising them afterwards, they’d humiliate their efforts by not even allowing them to finish. However, given the Canary’s reputation, he felt he shouldn’t be surprised even if she had a friendship with his Amai.

”No, we should not, Princess.”

Focusing his efforts on what Zach had asked him, Kila pointed back to the monkey bars behind him. “You have magical power over objects...? Tell those bars to become an extension ladder and I’ll take care of this pit.”

Kila’s arms crossed watching the Tamaranean dismantle the wall. As time ebbed on, the absurdly young veteran bounced on his feet. He seemed to have an anxious spirit within. Granted, it wouldn’t be a wrong guess to a certain extent. When obstacle courses, or really when tasks were assigned to his team in the past, laziness was not tolerated. Sluggishness was punished, deadlines were to be met. Missions had time frames to be completed in, even if one was doing something that was a lynchpin to success and waiting was part of it, the others had other tasks.

Standing here, though, with no task other than to do so, ate at Kila. His Amai said that these people of the Justice League were nothing like the BSF but he did not care to find out. He was at least trying to remember what his plan was before the strange power took control of him moments ago. Nothing he could recall ever threw him off that abruptly in his life. Regardless, it seemed to slowly come back, though he hadn’t quite remembered the specifics. Thus, once Aleen’a created the pathway and stepped through, Kila was right on her heels.

”Thank you, Princess.”

Once through and able to see the rest of the course, Kila felt better about their chances. Though, that’s when the corner of his vision caught sight of the other squad walking off. To think that they were still on the first obstacle while the other team had finished sparring made the pins that settled in his chest worse.

The monkey bars were simple and needed no description. Thus, Kila started from a jog that became a sprint. His hair briefly flew behind his head, eyes focused on the center prongs of the monkey bars. Once near to the pit, Kila jumped. Making it about halfway, he grabbed onto one of the middle bars. However, he didn’t wait long, using his momentum to his advantage swinging forward. His flight would have cleared the remaining amount of a gap, but he instead extended his leg in front of him. Timing his movement below the spaces between in each bar, he hooked his leg to the last prong and swung himself up to sit atop of it.

Pushing himself up to a balanced standing position he looked at the last bit of the course directly. Kila took particular note of the pit with seemingly no way across. While he gambled mentally about whether he could make the jump or not, he knew that would be of no use to his teammates. While he thought about how they all could get across, Kila looked down at the monkey bars he was standing on, tapping his foot against them. The Meta had an idea. Hopping down, he backed away from the ladder, watching their progress while approaching the next.

”Come on Speech Devil! I need you on this side.”

Kila was fully prepared to watch the session between Black Canary and the boy called Casper begin. However, as it seemed, his teachers had designated that his training would not focus on sparring at the moment to some of his disappointment. Still, the young warrior did not protest or bat an eye, walking with the group to the obstacle course location. Studying it briefly, he started formulating something of a strategy that would go along with each team member’s projected strengths. It didn’t take very long, and he was soon to verbalize his plan to the team.

At least he would have, if it weren’t for two things. Firstly, the stipulations, most of which didn’t surprise him until his own alias was called. One animal power for the course...? This was the yet another time that he heard of some lurking power within him related to animals. Looking down at his hands briefly, he opened and closed his fingers. His Amai told him that he had such power when he was young, connection to animals as she did...though, whatever happened when stolen away made it hide within.

Kila didn’t know how or what was required to access this power, but he couldn’t rely on potential. He was trained to work with what he had, and to do so with excellence. Thus, that’s what he would do. With resolve in mind, his mouth opened but a feeling inside silenced him. The feeling felt foreign, yet familiar. It was...a warning? He felt the need to look over his shoulder and back to the other group.

It was something dark that had momentarily happened. Which, made him look more directly at the boy called Casper again. But why? Was this that power that Amai referred to as hidden? It seemed rather random...though perhaps it felt the need to tell him that something was off about the spirit boy? He would think about this later, he supposed.

Looking back at the task he was supposed to be on, it seemed folks decided to go for their own ways to get passed the wall already. The Golden tried to climb, and it seemed he had potential but his technique was off. Meanwhile, the new arrival’s idea was simply to destroy the wall altogether. In most circumstances, the second wasn’t the best plan, but the wall’s tremble asserted that this circumstance wasn’t like most. The princess had remarkable strength to go along with her ability to fly. It made him wonder what else she could do.

When Mirage asked the reasonable question relating to simply going over the wall, the Zatara boy once again showed his simple minded attitude. Had this boy never been without magic? His arrogant attitude made Kila want to throw that punch that the high and mighty magician refused to train against. Right in his sneering smile.

Yet again his words were stolen from him. The strange feelings, he felt them again, tugging at him to move, but Kila kept in place. Instead, his eyes followed the direction and turned his head back over his shoulder. Again back to the group he wasn’t in. However this time, it was pulling his attention to Daphne.

She was sparring with Talon, but the air whispered of something being wrong. It wanted him to do something...to stop Talon. In which case, he found himself just watching it play out. All the while, the impulses seemed to get stronger. Clearly, the Talon boy was more experienced in battle and had the upper hand throughout most of it...Though, perhaps that was the problem? Kila wasn’t sure what he was feeling, it was as though the fury he had regarding Zatara had become something else. Something more primal.

Then Casper came over to comfort the girl in the aftermath and the feeling seemed to get worse...But why? Where was the threat? He blinked, stopping in his tracks as he had unconsciously took a step towards that way. His fists were balled, but he didn’t know when he had done that. Kila took a deep breath, sensing the brief tsunami of feeling pass. These impulses definitely must have had something to do with the power...but how did it relate to animals?

Calming himself down internally, the dark-skinned boy backtracked to his original group. Trying to push this strange episode to the back burner and focus on the task his group was given. Kila tried to remember what he was going to say, but ultimately it became more irrelevant as Aleen’a’s attack on the wall continued.

”The integrity of the wall has become compromised by the display of the Princess. Climbing would be more dangerous than effective now. As much as agreeing with this speech devil is against my nature, he is right. Allowing her to finish the job would be better for this task.” Kila expressed his thoughts to Mirage and Gold Rush.

It was somewhat of an uncomfortable night for the young man. Sure, he had laid on beds for the year he had been back with his Amai, and even sometimes when he was under President Bland’s command. However, he rarely ever slept on them. It was too soft, after many times of sleeping on the floor back then, it felt more comfortable on the ground. His Amai explained that there would be many things to get used to, things that he didn’t have to worry about anymore. That he was no longer a soldier, he would learn to relax.

While he had no doubt in the intentions of Amai, he wondered, if he wasn’t to be a soldier anymore, why was he here? The world of heroics didn’t seem much different from the world that he had supposedly left behind. Was it just that most didn’t kill their enemies? Saving the innocent? The Red Lion often gave speeches about saving and protecting people’s lives too. His Amai didn’t explain, but told him to just give it a chance. If he didn’t like it, he could just come home.

So, that’s what Kila set out to do. He would give this Young Justice Initiative a chance, to fight for ‘the right side’ and see if that made a difference to him. Thus, he did what Iwisa taught him, and prepared himself for training that morning up until the deadline.

Among the others, Kila stood with his arms behind his back, observing Black Canary as she spoke. There were few times that he’d seen and fewer that he encountered this duo. Both were of the League, just as his Amai. Though, more personally, Black Canary knew the father of his that he hadn’t the chance to meet. Because of that, there was a certain reverence he had for the warrior.

What she had taught today specifically, though, seemed to be beginner information though. It made him wonder about the real life combat experience of those whom he’d be going to battle with. As the small skirmish played out in front of him, Kila observed each action and reaction closely. However, as expected, Green Arrow was the first to be knocked to the ground. When the question was posed, Talon and Viktor offered each of their agreeable answers, given the Green Arrow’s jesting disposition.

It was when Zachary opened his mouth to give his opinion however, that Kila narrowed his eyes. The magician gave a generic answer to the question, clearly not paying much attention which irritated him. Furthermore, he went on a tangent about jokes and how they worked in battle, which to Kila made no sense in this context. He could understand the possible strategic value for some opponents, but that could just as equally make things worse. On top of that, the way he talked down to their teachers was dishonorable.

Kila was soon to reply, but Kassandra did it first. The tension within him eased as she broke down the usefulness of such training. He admired her confidence in speaking up, as she had barely said a word in the week he’d been here. Although her resolve seemed to falter, Kila nodded in acknowledgement. He wasn’t sure why, especially with her reclusive nature, but something within him seemed to be drawn to her.

The less verbal of the two pupils of Zatanna made a comment about not relying on physical strength, which made Kila roll his eyes. These two did not pay attention to what had just happened at all? What had just happened wasn’t about physical strength. Surely they were more perceptive, given magic’s tendency to be more than what the eye sees. That’s when Zach started talking again to try and worm around Kassandra’s explanation.

”If you trained to throw a punch correctly instead of complaining, then maybe you would have twice the advantage. Right now, you have one advantage and twice the complaint. How much more useful is that?” Kila couldn’t resist, his voice almost a snarl.

As the robot girl spoke, it became blurred noise as he caught onto abnormal sounds coming from their environment. He turned towards that section of the forest to give it a better investigation. The sounds of branches snapping and a high-pitched voice airing discomfort. As far as he was aware, there were no monkeys in America, which meant that there was a person approaching that was unaccounted for.

Just as his eye turned to the current League members on site, a girl crashed out of the shrubbery. She was bright, in almost every sense of the word; Her skin, hair, eyes, and even her outfit. While she could have been a threat in disguise, her demeanor and introduction implied otherwise. If she was a new recruit, she was rather late, especially to training, though it was her first time. No need to hold that against the princess, Kila supposed.

With his attention now returning to their training, Casper and his bird began speaking again. As it seemed, the feathered companion had managed to talk the spectral boy into volunteering next. In which case, Kila’s initial impressions about the magical members' work ethics were appeased for the moment. At least this one was willing to try.

Ja bit his bottom lip when Daphne explained that it wasn’t soda in the tiny bottle. It made more sense that it wasn’t, because the bottle was much too small to be worth anything drinking. That meant it was the ‘not-food’ nose twitch, which made him nod his head to make sure to remember the differentiation again. When she extended her wrist after spraying the perfume, his head bobbed to take a whiff of it. The boy almost sneezed but blew gently out of his sensitive sniffer instead; the distinction was clearer when on the outside of the bottle.

”It is very flowery, Daffy-Knee.” Ja smiled, though his statement brought him back to his previous thoughts. Flowery...Ambuya’s explanation of the other force of nature. ‘With the Red and Blue was weaned, the life breathing force that is called— The Green!’ Ja stated the last part inadvertently aloud as he put it together. He blinked and realized that what he said hadn’t made much sense, especially with how random it was. Still, he was glad to figure out what she was; the nature force she was part of, that is.

He was saved from any possibly awkward explanation when she called him with the request of showing them around. He knew he caught different individual scents briefly on his way here before the Red told him about her. Red Robot left them down here? That was weird, he was usually very focused, or at least in the time since he’s been Ja’s boss. The Red conduit thought about what could have stolen his attention, but Red Robot could handle it. So instead, he focused on her question and he smiled cheerily.

”Yeah! Let’s go find them!” Ja answered. A giddy feeling settled in his chest and his instincts found inspiration. So, as he skipped ahead of Daphne into the main area of the Base Level, one could pick out the chattering and even a few minor barks of a Baboon coming from him.

Upon further inspection, Ja saw two new people, each new scent leading to the appropriate owner. One of them was a brown skinned boy with his hair shaped in a line across his head. He could detect a hint of fear coming from him, but Ja wasn’t sure of what. The other was a white boy with bright blue eyes and really thin eyebrows. Happy to meet these new people that would be on teams with him, Ja’s pointed toothy grin was shared with them.

“Mhoro noobs! My name is Ja and this is Daffy-Knee—” Ja introduced, gesturing to Daphne, though not realizing he skipped ahead pretty fast and he had to turn his head to see if she was still following. Turning back to them he waved.

”Welcome to the team.”
Working on post now.

In the mean time @Crimson Flame, that would get two different responses:

"I don't understand this trick."

*Mild Blush*

Likely gonna get a post up between tonight and tomorrow. Somebody better eat that lunch before Ja gets up there.
