Her breath caught when she felt the cold metal of a pistol against her temple.
"Put the heart down, and back the hell up if you want your friend to live," the guard said to Ellie in a rumbling baritone, digging the gun into Dream's head.
Dream squinted at Ellie, vision blurred as she tried to breathe. The heart, glinting in Ellie's hands.
The doctor, his face turning white every time she asked what would happen if they failed. Above all else, he said, they had to keep the heart safe. They had to, even if it meant...
She snarled, her boot stamping down on the guard's foot, a burst of light bruising the bone. He yelped, losing his grip. That's all she needed, and she tore away. But in her haste, she saw his free arm reaching for her, and she slipped on panicked feet as he pushed her off the railing.
She held back a scream, staring straight down into the boiling pit below. The guard wrapped a tight hand around her ankle, and Ellie could see Dream's other foot flailing; she restrained herself poorly from kicking the guard, desperately hoping she wouldn't die.
As her captor supported himself against the railing, his pistol pointed at Ellie.
"I'll drop her, I swear I'll drop her!"

Deep, golden orbs stared back at her from within the cave.
God, she couldn't breathe.
He was monstrous. The ground trembled under her feet as his rippling, massive body exited the cave. Thunderous footsteps left cracks in the dirt, his breath sent waves of heat creeping over her skin. The transformation was slow, but it looked like something from a nightmare with the way his long teeth were bared.
A great and terrible roar sounded from his gaping maw.
She needed to run. Now.

- When Axen would scan the area, he would notice the holes seem to be infinitely endless, the walls resistant to being scanned, and the colors of everyone's clothing popping out. Similar to how neon colors appear under a UV light...
- And no, the weapons aren't color-coded. But you're on the right track.

… link disconnected.It was a cloudy summer day in Belize. The clouds above were thick and heavy, threatening to pour with rain at a moment's notice. Not that it would matter much - the constantly high humidity would make a paper curl and cause kindle to dampen. The wetness in the air clung to the skin, and sometimes made it hard to breathe. Subtropical weather, after all.
Expeditions of varying sponsors converged on a single site. Namely, Nick and Cosette with the Louvre, Star and Annalise of Voidlight, and Jaylyn with her companion Axen of Mechozs.io. The site in question? The Caracol Maya Ruins, about 3000 years old.
Whether by helicopter, jeep, or by traversing down the winding dirt road, all would arrive at these sprawling stone ruins. And, in congruent with the reports, something was immediately amiss with the largest ruin of them all: the Caana (Sky Palace).
The mountainous ruin with stairs leading into the sky was eerily transformed into CDE (Condensed Dark Energy), a now obsidian structure with rainbow pearlescent. It was somewhere here that the core of the CDE was active, and growing at an inching rate. It was here that their destiny lay.
However, as each group and member approached the obsidian Caana, something strange would happen.
A strange, purplish mist would overtake their sight, and the world would vanish for a moment. It would be replaced with a completely obsidian view under a tumultuous sky - yes, every researcher and adventurer was now huddled together in the center courtyard at the very top of the Caana, hundreds of steps into the air. There were obsidian walls made of CDE around the square of the courtyard, preventing escape. And, a booming voice.
“Our Naranjo captives have finally come! Let us have sport, then, before the human sacrifice is made! Have them duel!”
Just then, all manner of swords, axes and bludgeoning weapons made of CDE fell into the courtyard. Along with that, four holes in the north, east, west, and south areas of the courtyard opened up, revealing a black Abyss below. Each hole was rimmed in a color. North was rimmed in white, east in red, south in yellow, and west in black.
The holes slowly became bigger.
“Fight, my captives, fight!”
At it would stand, Nick, Cosette, Annalise, Nova, Jaylyn and Axen would either need to sacrifice one of themselves to stop them all from falling into the growing holes, or…
Solve the puzzle of Caana, and live.
All the while, there was quiet, gentle breathing, of a man in stasis, somewhere unseen, waiting to be found…
I don't know if I mentioned, but Hubs and I are trying to effectively move house in the next week; so I may be a bit slow, but hopefully not ^^;; I'll have my laptop if we move my pc anytime soon.
Also I don't know where everyone else is, but I have a feeling my timezone is gonna be wonky compared to everyone else as I'm in New Zealand, so my timezone is GMT+12; just so everyone has that knowledge!
Don't take stress over it, moving is moving. Worst case scenario we adjust the post line-up. ;)
Speaking of which, does a maximum of 2 days between posts before I start asking if we need to skip sound alright?
