Took me 10 years to realize antagonists are way more fun to write.

"A million times I have done this charade. The moment people figure it out, I get the boot." she thought.

"But don't you want to see the fear in their eyes when they see who you really are...? Don't you want dominion of this place, just like how you were unchallenged in Vaal Kastrix?" said the Voice.

Ciara scoffed, immediately thinking of Gulliver and Valen. "I'd love to wipe the smirk off their faces."

"It starts by building a rumor. A rumor of power. This could be the place to start."

She took a deep breath, narrowing her eyes resolutely at the Undermage. "Head Advisor, with all due respect, you have no right to ask me about my intentions. If you want answers..."

She stood from her seat, rising to her full height.

"You'll have to duel me for them."

Her breath caught when she felt the cold metal of a pistol against her temple.

"Put the heart down, and back the hell up if you want your friend to live," the guard said to Ellie in a rumbling baritone, digging the gun into Dream's head.

Dream squinted at Ellie, vision blurred as she tried to breathe. The heart, glinting in Ellie's hands.

The doctor, his face turning white every time she asked what would happen if they failed. Above all else, he said, they had to keep the heart safe. They had to, even if it meant...

She snarled, her boot stamping down on the guard's foot, a burst of light bruising the bone. He yelped, losing his grip. That's all she needed, and she tore away. But in her haste, she saw his free arm reaching for her, and she slipped on panicked feet as he pushed her off the railing.

She held back a scream, staring straight down into the boiling pit below. The guard wrapped a tight hand around her ankle, and Ellie could see Dream's other foot flailing; she restrained herself poorly from kicking the guard, desperately hoping she wouldn't die.

As her captor supported himself against the railing, his pistol pointed at Ellie.

"I'll drop her, I swear I'll drop her!"

Deep, golden orbs stared back at her from within the cave.

God, she couldn't breathe.

He was monstrous. The ground trembled under her feet as his rippling, massive body exited the cave. Thunderous footsteps left cracks in the dirt, his breath sent waves of heat creeping over her skin. The transformation was slow, but it looked like something from a nightmare with the way his long teeth were bared.

A great and terrible roar sounded from his gaping maw.

She needed to run. Now.

Tarin, Garden Plaza

@The Otter

"But, my lady, if you know who I am, then I'm sure you know better than to call me lord."
Callum

Anabel smiled sweetly. ”Oh Lord Prosser, were you sleeping during your classes? The children of nobility are all called lords or ladies as a way of being polite.”

Raiden looked to the side, smirking. ”And I imagine you were the teacher's favorite, my lady?”

Anabel fumed, stamping her foot again at Raiden. It was almost comical, seeing the small, round and puffy stature of Lady Furino, like a Caelin cream puff, making a fuss at Raiden. Raiden, in contract, was this dark, lithe and tall figure, at least twice the height of little Furino.

"...But, maybe, you mistake me for Allan? My father's heir and I are of a height, while our other brothers seemed to have inherited more of our grandfather's size. He's only recently started growing out his beard, without it we do look remarkably alike."
Callum

Raiden shook his head at that as he sat beside the young noble. ”Now why would I want your brother? No, you had the good fortune of coming to Tarin at the behest of the late duke himself. The All-force smiles on you, young Prosser. Your fate and mine are intertwined!”

Anabel leveled a flat look at Raiden. “That's just a fancy way of saying you've been stalking him this whole time, haven't you?”

Raiden twisted his lip at the young girl. “You want to air out the dirty linens? Fine, my lady. I might have been ensuring the safety of our young lord, but you, why are you here?”

A cheeky grin spread over his face. “You were stalking me, weren't you?”

Anabel's face grew hot, and she crossed her arms over herself, as if in an attempt to hide her secrets from the group. “N-no! Why would I do that?”

Her lips pursed together before she said to the side quietly. “Okay, maybe I was.” Then she spoke with more force. “But when I saw who you were tailing, I had to intervene! You, Mister Raiden Asher of the Sparrows, are not a man to be trusted! Especially not with a young, impressionable boy!”

Raiden gave a low chuckle. “Forgive me but, aren't you a young, impressionable girl then by that regard, my lady?”

Anabel fumed. “This isn't about me, stop deflecting!”

"I'd hate to cut this friendly reunion short by agreeing to anything too soon, something I'm sure you both understand. I need some time to get my wits about me, anyways—finding out the fate of those who were to bear my charge was quite a shock. Maybe we can all discuss it further through the day...or, perhaps, over dinner, once I satisfy my need of lodging?"
Callum

Both looked at Callum for a long, long moment, before exchanging a glance between the two of them.

Anabel was the first to speak up, coughing lightly into her fist, undeterred. “It just so happens that I know a fine establishment just down the way from this garden plaza. You would only need to say my name at the counter, and they would bill the lodgings to my estate.”

She held up a hand to quell any rebuttal from Callum, smiling sweetly. “Oh, I insist! You're a guest here, aren't you? It would be impolite to force you to pay. Besides, we will be discussing this more over dinner, yes?”

Raiden gave her a look. “Ain't nothing to talk about, my lady. Not with you.”

Anabel only smiled. “I'd dare to disagree, Sparrow.”

Anabel pointed east down the path, to a building with a hanging sign that read ‘Eagle Inn - Vacancies’. “There, Eagle Inn, you can't miss it. It has a tavern and warm rooms, and a place to bed and feed your horse.”

She began walking away, “Remember, give my name at the counter, and you won't be billed. I'll see you in the evening.”

Raiden sighed, watching her go, before he gave a look to Kai, his wolf. “Kai and I have some business in the city, so we will meet you at Eagle’s tavern tonight.”

He glanced back at Callum, standing. “Well, I’ll leave you to your meat pie, little lord. It is quite tasty.”

A small chuckle as he mounted Kai, and giving Callum’s horse a wide berth, made their way into the city in the opposite direction.

If Callum were to make his way to Eagle Inn, it would be noticeably nicer than most inns. Fresh wood floors, whole oak beams, and the smell of boiled milk and ale through the door to the tavern on the right. Straight ahead would be a counter with an attendant standing behind it, idly looking over parchments. To the left was a stairwell that would lead to the rooms.

Umbra: The Abyssal Connection

A world shattered into factions. A lawless world, plunged back into the near stone age from a fatal mistake.

The Umbra Corp, the ones with the most technology and an iron grip on the world, they have sent out their prized experiment to finally put the dark forces plaguing the world to rest.

However, ‘dark’ is a figurative term, and changes depending on who is speaking. Many forces depend on the darkness to survive. And many, many factions absolutely hate the Umbra Corp.

You raise your blaster, your laser sword and your spectral fist, ready to fight to protect what is important to you, and carve a path out to achieve your dreams.

Welcome to Umbra: The Abyssal Connection, a tale of hardship, grit, and survival. It is set in post-apocalyptic times, where society has collapsed due to a toxic accident that has changed the face of the world and reduced most of the population.

This will be faction-focused, with main factions being the Umbra Corp (the main baddies), Ghost Corp (armed resistance), the Wilds (the darkness and source of seductive power), and the Lawless (the boogeymen that prowl the broken world).

This is set at least 200 years in the future, so those with technology have space stations and a new tech called Abyssal Energy.

There is also a supernatural power connected to the Abyss that the Wilds use, and every faction covets this power. This supernatural power is what Abyssal Energy tries to imitate horribly.

You could play any one of these factions, as a Umbra Corp mercenary, a Lawless thief, or even a Wild stalker.

Ideally, it will be up to the group to work together and take down Umbra Corp, or fight amongst themselves and watch the world tear itself apart even more.

You can read the prequel story here, where three unique characters will be joining you.

@The Otter I legit can't wait, it's gonna be good. :)

@Donut Look Now No worries, that's why I'm here!
<Snipped quote by Estylwen>

I'd say we finish up the part we're on now and then get a new thread up and running.

Maybe get a Discord going?

Sure! Then I will wait on your guys posts before creating the part 2 thread. We will conclude this part fairly quickly I think.

Unfortunately I don't do discord, but I have found OOC and DMs work well for a successful RP.

That's fine with me

Great! One last round from you and Wayward, and then I will post the part 2.
I believe we are still waiting on three collabs from ERode, Click This, Psykers and Irradiant.

In the meantime, I'm still looking for IC posts from @twannyman, @ERode, @Psyker Landshark, @Irradiant, @Click This, and @Donut Look Now.

If you're working on a collab, I can wait until the collaboration concludes.

Twannyman let me know they're gonna be busy for the next week or so.

@The Otter I'll aim to have a response for you today or tomorrow; I'm trying to get you into the main story line at a reasonable pace. :)
@Ocelot79 Sounds good, looking forward to it!
Hey. So are we considering this RP open to new players? Or just moving forward with the three of us?

I can make a recruitment thread in the interest check section, for sure. Maybe we'll 'find' some survivors outside that can help us...

I'll have something up today or tomorrow for that.

Edit: Actually, on top of that, I would like to remake the thread so I can control it entirely. How do you both feel about moving to a new thread, @Qia, @Wayward?

I'd probably call it part 2...

C.G.106, The Princess Palace

@Vertigo

Upon entering the Princess Palace, Abel would notice the area gave off a feeling of 90's jungle gyms. There was a castle-themed jungle gym with four small slides leading into a pool of multicolored pink balls. Entering the jungle gym and moving past the slides led to platforms and netting. Climbing up to the highest level in the platforms allowed for a bird's eye view through the netting over the room, about four levels high, and ten feet higher than the castle. From the top, Abel would beable to see, beyond the other few jungle gyms and tables in the room, there was no obvious way out.

Except for, well, what was in front of him.

The platforms were pressed against the wall, netting along the sides and roof, trapping Abel to two choices presented at the top.

Two slides, actually.

The left slide was sky blue, the right slide was baby pink. Both descended away from each other, and it wasn't easy to tell where they ended up.

Over the left slide was a black painted arrow, and some spray painted text. ‘Do you really want the truth?’

In this room were two stuffed animals, watching.

Sounds great!
