Current Woke up Christmas night and there was Santa glaring at me from the door. At least I think it was Santa. We had a marine neighbor, or maybe it was dad? Only neither one had a beard.

I'm about to be banished for the good of the realm again. Where is the trust in this world, I ask you?

I'm sorry, you've reached his personal secretary, Department of Shrubbery, Floor 64, Desk 1024. How can we help you today?

Bio

I am a seven-foot tall minecraft-playing hindu guru drag-queen alien.

Possessor of an Ancient Device™ Model 17. No, I don't know what it does. No, you can't play with it.

Pronouns: It. As in: "What is it? What does it want? Why is it here? Oh my god, it's got my... <insert random body part or object here>"

Likes: World Domination, Writing, Rpg, scifi/fantasy, anime, sketchup 3d models, and anime music videos.

Companions: a host of characters from other games, my personal muse Penny (as in Bad), and the Badger gang - Toothpick, Buttons, Shark, and Mongo. They grew up in the balcony of an old theatre that played a lot of gangster movies. Normally benign, but may invade the OOC forums.

Qaymu just being a dandy, smoking a pipe, twrilin' that 'stash and lookin' dapper as all heck. ALl he needs now is a fedora.

Fedora? FEDORA? That man with the whip had a 'fedora'! He will rue the day he stole from me! Rue, I say! Rue!

Courtyard

That was weird, Qaymu scowled, coming down the stairs and towards the entrance to the courtyard. He was in his normal clothes, including the red smoking jacket.

Iris ran by in a state of undress, trying desperately to cover herself up, making his right eyebrow quirk up. It had taken him days of practice in front of a mirror to perfect it after watching Mr. Spock on Star Trek do the same thing. He couldn't help but to turn and stare at her as she ran.

"Okay, that was weird," he muttered softly to himself. As she wasn't covered in someone else's blood, whatever happened was not an attack.

Suggestion list
  • Large bottle of blood to be kept at reception for Velvet's late nights
  • A couple bathrobes kept near the courtyard entrances
  • ...?

There had been something else, he was sure.

He looked around, seeing only a few of the other residents, and moved towards the nearest bench and sat down. Pulling out his pipe, he began to smoke. One of these days, he ought to put actual tobacco in the pipe, rather than using it as his own personal chimney. A lick of his dragon fire appeared over the edge of bowl.

His Max, not the guy in reception, died. And now, that... being showed up inside his apartment. Was it mocking him?

The smoke coming out of his pipe was becoming heavier....

"I'm an ex-army scout," Gabs replied, then waved at herself to point out the armor, then shrugs. "I'm having a problem with the army paymaster, they thought I was dead and discharged me, and I've got to wait for them to sort it out."

She sighs.

"I'm good with my sword, knife, and bow, and can pick a lock if you don't want to take a warhammer to the lid," she adds, remembering when her former squadmate Iggy smashed through the top of a chest of potions. When she woke up, her leg was broke and the guards had found them except for Iggy. Weird how they found his hammer and his shadow burned into the wall....

"Anywho, just what does 'The Helping Hand' do?" she asked, biting her lip. "It's not like charity work, is it?"

Charity work paid bupkis.

It's indeed quiet hard... I've been looking for one as well.
That being said... I did find this one...

It could be worse.

@Expendable
That is similar! What's the name of the book. It sounds really interesting.

Barbara Hambly's The Time of the Dark. It's an interesting read.

She also does a good vampire novel, Those Who Hunt by Night - Victorian London, a college professor who used to work in India as part of her Majesty's Secret Service comes home to find his house dark except for his study. His pistol is in his desk in the study, only when he sneaks up the servant stairs, he finds his wife unconscious and his gun neatly disassembled.

His visitor is a vampire who has a problem. Someone has been going around killing the vampires of London - but it can only be another vampire, few humans know about them - and usually very briefly. Since the vampire can't trust them, he needs to bring in an outsider.

I'd like to try for one of the five spots. I've got a character mostly completed, but sometimes I think of a better one afterward.
Reminds me of the start of this book.

This college student is dreaming about this ancient medieval city - it's night and everyone around her is in a panic as something is banging on the other side of these huge metal doors. People stream by without seeing her. Then these guards dressed in black appear, swords drawn, followed by this old man clearly respected by the guards. And as his eyes sweep across the crowd, he locks eyes with her and can clearly see her. He sheaths his sword and starts saying something as he approaches, trying to keep her calm - and she wakes up.

The stones under her are cold and people are panicking at this young woman wearing a cowboy shirt who just suddenly appeared in front of them, and she looks up at the old man and asks, "This isn't a dream, is it?"

She returns to the dream, and returns a couple of times.

Once she's just running over some rocks, being chased by something and knowing if she trips, she's dead. Only when she does trip, she wakes up in bed - but her feet are hurting. They're all cut up by the rocks.

The next night, she wakes up, believing she forgot to lock the front door. Only what she finds is the wizard from the first dream sitting in her kitchen.
