APPEARANCE Aline often complains that her brother got all the good looks from their parents, and she didn’t, but that mostly stems from an irrational lack of confidence due to inheriting her mother’s height and flat chest. She’s actually quite pretty - not that it’s even something she puts importance on in the first place. At 5’2” Ali is short, but still a bit taller than her mother, with a slightly broader build than she’d like. Her chest is flat but her waist curves out into wider, curvy hips. She has clear, lithe muscles in her arms and legs from fighting. Her skin is slightly lighter than her brother’s but still a medium brown, with more of a golden undertone. Her eyes are a dark brown, almost black, and large though often are found with a narrowed, somewhat mocking gaze. Her thick, black hair is kept in a short bob cut that falls just above her chin - it sits relatively straight, but messy, until it curls at the bottom. Overall she takes quite heavily after her mother, looking more Filipino than anything. Ali is normally found with a shit eating grin and an upbeat, peppy stance. She wears a wide variety of clothes but most commonly a tshirt and shorts, with a bomber with all sorts of hidden pockets she can keep things in. Sometimes, when she isn’t expecting to do anything exciting, she’ll wear a plain dress over a tshirt.
BACKSTORY & MOTIVATION Born in São Paulo, Brazil, Aline was brought into the world as the second child of a restaurant owner and retired nomad. As soon as she walked she was found toddling after her older brother or causing havoc in the kitchen of her father’s restaurant. Her early years were bright and cheerful - until her brother started ignoring her for the sake of learning martial arts.
Aline was too young to truly understand her mother’s tales of being a nomad when her brother started learning, and his constant practicing and heavy focus on it completely isolated him from her. Suddenly he didn’t have time for her… and nor did her mother for prioritising and training her. She was too young for that, so she was brushed aside. However unlike her brother, who was dedicated but only average naturally, Ali was born with a naturally high amount of ki. This meant that as soon as she was deemed old enough her mother wanted to train her… something she didn’t take to well to. To her, martial arts was what had taken her older brother away from her. She had no interest in that.
This resulted in a large clash with her mother who was incredibly pushy and forceful with her, expecting her to be nothing less than the best - if Isko could work so hard, then so could she. But she didn’t want to. This also resulted in clashing with her brother. In a sort of rebellion, Aline spent most of her time on the streets with other kids running about playing truant, destroying things and fighting. What time she didn’t spend there was with her father learning in the kitchen. From him she got nothing but unconditional love and encouragement which she lacked from her other family members. She could deal with her mother's disapproval and scolding, the disappointed look on her brother’s face when she came back with scraped knuckles, if she just had his love.
Then he died. Ali was only fourteen at the time, already in an incredibly difficult period of her life as she was struggling with friendship in school while acting out more and constantly getting into fights. His death absolutely devastated her… as did selling the restaurant she’d considered home and completely moving countries. But with the move and loss of their father came changes within her family and herself. While her mother did not change much, her brother suddenly went from pushing her away for his own interests to doing everything for her. It wasn’t perfect but she was willing to give him a second chance.
And she also decided to give her mother a second chance, and in it learning martial arts. While this didn’t entirely repair their relationship it helped her begin to get over her built up hatred for her from years of being ignored. However she didn’t give up both her passion for cooking or… spending a lot of time on the streets causing chaos. But her aggression and raw anger at being ignored, her need to rebel, was tempered as she began to learn various Filipino martial arts that interested her. For now it was alright, because she had her brother on her side.
Eventually she agreed to travel with him as a Nomad, even though it took encouragement to leave the second home she’d found. But she quickly found she loved life on the road. This journeying took the two of them to the World Martial Arts tournament and she was there when Oh-One attacked the arena. While she didn’t really know why it happened, the event incited a strong desire to fight and stop the robot. That was how she encouraged (forced) her brother to come along with her in joining a group of Nomads to stop Oh-One and get the power stone back. Ali found she loved the thrill of it, and the feeling of being in a group larger than just her and her brother.
So when everything was done she insisted they stay in Gold City - a place they’d never been before. It was filled with other nomads and adventure, and she wanted nothing more to explore it before they set off again.
SKILLS & ABILITIES Aline fights with raw, less traditionally trained methods combined with her naturally high ki. Her fighting style is incredibly fierce and aggressive with a focus on speed, constant attacks and taking her opponents down. She fights dirty as she spent her younger years scrapping on the streets. This was refined when she moved to the Philippines, where she learned Filipino Kina Motay and Dumog. She focuses on manipulating choke points to unbalance her opponent and grappling, giving her openings to attack, or just going completely all out with her ki attacks to get it done quickly. She doesn’t care about what counts as “fair play” - to her any kind of attack is game if it takes down an opponent. Someone of her stature can’t afford to be fussy, anyway. She isn’t above biting, eye-gouging, headbutting or elbowing. In fact these are the kinds of attacks she’s learned to use the most.
Along with all this, Aline also fights with weapons and spent years (grudgingly) learning Arnis from her mother. While she rarely uses this martial art for any kind of unarmed combat she always carries knives on her person, and will employ it with those or improvised weapons. She uses these knives both as a way to fight dirty and up close, not worrying about cutting someone, but also to throw at a range to give herself some variability. She can also fight with the commonly used (in Arnis) Baston, but she rarely actually bothers to carry one about. She prefers just to pick up something improvised instead.
Aline has a natural high amount of ki, honed when she started actually training. She normally uses this to increase her strength when gripping opponents so that they can’t easily escape, to enhance her own attacks and to increase her speed. Along with this she’s learned how to use it to heat up parts of her body or weapons, essentially enhancing her attacks with intense heat and sometimes even flames.
SIGNATURE MOVES ■ Catch Me!Ali runs and leaps at a standing opponent from the front, wrapping her legs around their midsection and arms - using ki to strengthen their hold. Then she either wraps an arm around their neck and uses the other to go for an eye gouge or strong pinch, or wraps them around their upper body and bites their cheeks or neck.
■ Piggyback!Ali leaps at an opponent from behind, wrapping her legs around their waist and her arms around their neck and grips onto them. She then bites or elbows their neck, or draws a knife to put it at their throat.
■ Just a BiteAli bites an opponent in a vulnerable spot, digging her teeth in and latching on to make it difficult for them to pull away and stop it. She has to already have them grappled to be able to do this.
■ NutshotIn response to being grabbed by her opponent, or grabbing them herself, Ali brings her knee up and right into their groin. Most effective against men.
■ HardheadAli grabs her opponents wrist and elbow to use an arm drag and pull them towards her, headbutting or shoulderbutting them as they’re pulled towards her.
■ Knock a Bitch DownGrabbing her opponent’s leg, Ali uses ki to help strengthen herself and flip her opponent over onto the ground. She then holds them to the ground in a grappling position, likely moving on to attack them in some way (biting or eye gouging most commonly).
■ Stab a BitchAli swiftly draws a knife from her jacket, using Ki to speed up her movement, and cuts or stabs a vulnerable spot of her opponent. Where depends on what she has access to and whether she is grappling with them.
■ Throwin’ KnivesDrawing a knife from her jacket, Ali imbues it with Ki to either set it alight or make it stronger before throwing it at a quick speed. Often, she does this multiple times in a row to send a barrage of throwing knives.
■ Sticks Can Break Your BonesAli picks up an object that she can use as an improvised weapon, using ki to strengthen it before using it to fight. Generally she prefers objects that can be used as impact weapons, to hit them hard and try to break something, but will also use something like a scarf to choke someone.
■ Hot StuffAli elbows or knees her opponent in as vulnerable a spot as she can reach, using ki to cause a sudden burst of heat as they connect, causing intense pain. She can then use their reaction to this to attack them again, put some space between them or get out of their grip if they had her grappled.
■ Bringing The HeatAli uses her ki to heat up a part of her body, such as her hand, elbow or teeth, causing it to go to incredibly high temperatures. This results in any blows made with that body part being stronger, causing burning on impact with skin (or softening metal). How long she keeps this up varies, but normally for only a few attacks as it is draining on her ki. She tends to use it in constant, short bursts as she attacks.
■ Light Em UpAli shoots a burst of fire out of her palm or the sole of her feet, either as an open hand attack or kick.
SUPER MOVES ■ Burn, Baby, BurnAli lets out a strong burst of heat from her body, shooting it towards her opponent. This is more powerful the less far it has to travel, causing intense pain (as if doused in boiling water) to someone nearby, to the point it could straight up knock them out, and still causing bad burns to someone further away. Due to the strength of this move it takes everything out of Ali, using up a large amount of her ki and exhausting her, so she only uses it if she’s certain it will end the fight.
■ All Fired UpAli uses her Ki to essentially set herself on fire, causing her entire body to be coated in flames. This makes her attacks much more damaging, speeds her up and allows her some semblance of control over the fire surrounding her (to shoot as a ranged attack). However it is incredibly draining on her body and ki: if she isn’t careful or does it for too long, she will burn and damage herself.
■ Get Down, Stay DownUsing choke points, Ali grabs her opponent and flips them onto the ground underneath her. She pins them underneath her, twisting their leg to hurt them and stop them from moving - using ki to increase her weight and strength to keep them there. She then keeps them pinned and in a vulnerable position for as long as she can so that she can elbow, knee, pinch, eye gouge or bite them.
WEAKNESSES & LIMITS While she packs a punch, Aline isn’t the most sturdy and is heavily dependent on speed to get her away from other attacks. If she’s hit it will heavily damage her and she is easily knocked down or thrown about the place. Along with this she won’t win in any contests of strength and relies on underhand tactics and choke points to gain the upperhand and without the use of Ki, she will lose in a one to one strength match up. Her attacking style lends to vicious and constant attacks / grappling and she has a general lack of defences and stamina - her aim is to get it done as fast as possible. She tires quickly and drawn out fights will result in her growing weaker throughout them as she tires herself out and uses up her ki. Along with this, the general nature of her attacks: relying on dirty moves and weak points of the human body means she is nowhere near as effective against people who are fully or partially robotic.
