Faira Fleetnet News

State of the Fleet
Since the cataclysm, our fleet has been trying to establish working supply chain and adequate protection for the survivors. Today, the admiralty officially declared the operation a success. Our race has persevered despite the Universe trying to undo our existence. Admiral Sola had this to say:

“Together we have survived a catastrophe that would have ended any other. Yet we can only celebrate our success with sorrow. Over three billion of our kind remained behind on Faira'Erea and were consumed by the Star’s wrath. Let those souls never be forgotten, for it is due to their tireless work that we are now alive. We have elected to hold a fleet wide memorial service for our dead planet today at twelve o’clock.”

With the launch of the ED Warden, all three of our pre-exodus planned fleets are now complete. The admiralty has not yet approved of a new construction plan.

Exploration of Exodus
The system which we used to flee from the nova of Faira Star have been officially named ‘Exodus’. The Vanguard fleet under Admiral Cygnus is scheduled to depart tot he system to survey it for usable resources. Unfortunately, the preliminary report indicates that the system is void of any habitable planet, much less one suited to our needs. The Vanguard fleet will proceed further in hopes of locating a suitable home for us.

The only notable site is the system’s sole gas giant. The large planet has cleared out most of the system’s asteroids which became moons of the planet, twelve in total. The admiralty believes building a forward operations base in the system to be the best course of action. It is yet undecided what this base should look like, and for the moment, one of the Patrol fleet's frigate groups will be stationed in the planet's orbit along with Faira'Hexus for detailed resource survey.

New hope?
The most important discovery however is the presence of a second jump node in the Exodus system, in the vicinity of the Gas giant designated ‘Exodus'Juno’. Our subspace scientists believe it is the gas giant’s large gravity that allowed for the second jump node to exist without the need for binary star system as was once theorized.

Admiral Cygnus of the Vanguard fleet revealed that automatic probes were already sent through the node to determine the location of the new system and extract data about it’s composition. Preliminary scans are still being processed, but the Admiral believes that the Vanguard fleet might be able to transit through the node within the next week to establish our presence and hopefully find new resources. We wish our sisters in the Vanguard fleet safe voyage and hope they will return safely and with good news.

Exodus system - ED Explorer, flagship of Vanguard Fleet

The admiral folded her hands on her chest and leaned back in her chair. Ever since they discovered the relic ship on their homeworld, they knew they were not alone in the universe. She did not fear that. The only thing Cygnus feared was their response for when they would become said proof to someone else. “Are you certain of this, Commander?”

In front of her stood a Faira with blue accents on her skin too similar to the admiral’s to be a coincidence. “Yes. The background noise of the cosmos in the new system displays frightening regularity. It is either a proof of an intelligence present during the birth of the universe and of an intelligent design of everything that is, or it is a heavily degraded signal from technology, most likely communications. We both know which is more likely.” the scientist answered. “From the weak sensors on the probe we weren’t able to determine anything about them, we will have to investigate on our own. The other end of the Jump node seems to be on the edge of the system - hopefully we will remain undetected by them before we can determine more.”

“That’s fairly wishful thinking. For what we know, there are civilizations several times older than us. I trust our equipment, but I don’t know how far we should dare go. We are not many - if we stretch too thin and lead something awful to our home...” Cygnus sighed, “I will have to discuss this with the rest of the Admiralty. You may go now.”

Slamming her fist against her chest in a salute, the blue Faira turned to leave. “Astra...” The admiral called out, making her quest turn her head over her shoulder, “Good work.”

Several days later, Exodus-Unknown jump node

It was an impressive sight. The Meteor-class destroyers were nowhere near as large as the civilian ships, but they had this menacing look to them. The gray, monolithic ship was covered in additional ablative plates, the spire shaped subsystems and dark red accents completing it’s brutish look. Cygnus still remembered the protests of the civilian admirals against building these powerhouses, but now that she was heading to a potential first contact, the admiral couldn’t help but be thankful for having these ‘solutions to nonexistent problems’, as they called them.

The Explorer was not alone. Accompanying it were four corvettes and half a dozen cruisers, with two frigate groups to boot. The explorer would not be making the transition through the node though, instead it stood ready to kill whatever might come back through the jump node in case they - whoever they were - turned hostile. Cygnus nodded when all ships reported in and took a deep breath. “Here we go. Curious, you have a go. Travel safely. We are here if you need us.”

EFG Curious

"You heard the Admiral! Oracle, be on guard. Navigation, helm, take us in." Astra ordered. She never ceased to be amazed by what followed. A large red and white rip opened in normal space and the ship passed through to the swirling tunnel. Subspace was a volatile dimension. It was only due to gravity having a stabilizing effect on it that traveling through was possible. If it wasn't the only way forward, she doubted the admiralty would ever allow anyone through.

The trek wasn't too long, and within ten minutes the Curious and it’s accompanying corvettes and cruisers emerged on the other side of the node. The crew immediately sprung into action, flooding Astra with reports. “Any contacts or threats?” the commander asked, her blue eyes set on the Oracle.

“Negative. But if they have the technology to notice us, the Subspace vortex will do the trick. As for our normal operations, we believe our shielding will greatly diminish our electronic signature. Any sensors less advanced than our own should have great difficulty targeting us, albeit perhaps not detecting us. We should be hard to spot by optical detection past ten thousand meters.” the Oracle reported.

Listening to her options, Astra shook her head. “We stay put. If whoever is here happens to be strongest than us and hostile, I do not want to have our only way home cut off. No sense of sitting around waiting for them either. Proceed with a system-wide scan, let’s see where we ended up and what exactly is here.” the commander decided. Nothing to do now but wait as the Oracle felt her way around.

Expansion

“That is the exploration that awaits you! Not mapping stars and studying nebulae, but charting the unknown possibilities of existence.”
Leonard Nimoy

Introduction
This is a Sci-Fi NRP set in the FreeSpace universe created by Volition. It is focused on controlling your nation as it enters the age of space colonization and expands into the galaxy.
This will be a hybrid of a character driven and nation roleplay, but leaning towards the former.
This starts as a game of two, but if you find this to your liking - and know the universe - shoot us a PM, we'll see if there is space for you.

Champion's peak...

"Sorry I'm late!" Alex shouted from the door as she slammed on the brakes, nearly tumbling into her would be-teammates like a bowling ball. Falling in line with them, she straightened up. "Don't worry, hacked the security cams, I heard and saw everything." she whispered to the closest attending Avenger, partly to make them know she actually knew what was going on, but partly also because bragging was one of the personality traits that rubbed off on her from her father.

Considering said footage, she was reviewing it in another processing thread, trying to get a glimpse on the other future Champions that she would spend most of her time with from now on. They seemed like an interesting bunch, as soon as she found her way into the SHIELD database and started pulling data on them. She didn't need the camera to get a look at the one right next to her, instead turning an eye to her and winking playfuly. This one was well documented, as an active SHIELD agent. Her powers were interesting, and at least partially able to do something that Alex couldn't on any scale. There was the minor threat of her attempting to possess the ASTRA and finding out, but Alex was reasonably certain she could keep her off. Perhaps a gravitational field to cause a bit of a blow in the air? they'll see in the training.

It was hard not to place the Wakandan, he stuck out like a sore thumb. The new black panther would be joining them for now, albeit reluctantly it seemed form his body language. She made a note to mind the anti-metal claws on his suit, although both her nano skin and her own suit's composite armor panels should be immune, if he sank the claws deep enough, she would be in trouble.

Then there was an X-Man, someone she didn't think would be attending this party. They tended to stick with their own. Alex never quite understood that - if one wanted to be recognized as equal, why would they intentionally segregate themselves? Finding the PROTECT recruit files on the infonet, she found out the 'soulless' redhead was a telepath. That could be a cause of significant consternation, when she looked into her head and found either nothing, unintelligible static or a bunch of qubits. Alex was wondering jsut how long her cover will hold.

The SHIELD tech finally noticed her entry into the system, and she promptly withdrawn. She could of course outsmart one techie, but if the whole cyber security department was alerted, her cover would be blown for sure. Better not risk it and find out about the others the good old fashioned way. Looking on, she watched as the Shadow went to demonstrate the method of training they were supposed to use, curious to see how it would compare to the Starke Industries built air force training simulators she was using until now, courtesy of unca Rhodes.
@Forsythe - I'm keeping the part about the wink xD

Easy on the copypaste champ :D Alex isn't wearing the armor, and she jsut came back from the first ever test, so Anomie can't associate her as 'iron girl'. She'd be a bit of an enigma really, other than 'Titanius' daughter'.

That said, I'm happy to keep the wink. I ship it ;P

W007, this lives! <3 Do we wait for the final sheet before the next round?
ASTRA

Earlier, Edwards AFB...

The air force base was a swarm of activity. Oficially, the cause was the X-37 spaceplane that landed on the runway thirty minutes ago. Half of the personnel though was not members of the Airforce, as idnetified by a rather corporate shoulder patches on their overalls. The Strke Enterprises crew was swarming over one of the hangars, with the doors slammed shut and any window blanketed over. Over the last two hours, trucks were arriving with equipment for something even most of the air force base was not informed about. What many found strange was that some of the flatbed trucks ony carried one crate, and yet seemed to sag quite a lot under it, suggesting a big weight was being carried.

Inside, the answer to that lied, or rater, stood still. Alex was watching as techs were assembling the re-purposed Titanius Mk III suit-up system. The re-fit included upgrading of the hydraulics suite so the arms would even be able to handle the extra weight. In front of her was the reason - the modules of the ASTRA suit. Alex smiled, recalling her father's words about, as he put it, her 'graduation gift'. The general thought behind the suit was very Starke, but if one comapred the ASTRA to the Titanius, it would be like comparing a steamroller to a hammer.

She had only seen the suit today for the first time as well. Alex could not help but think it funny that she, someone who was pretending to be this petite, lanky girl, was to fly a suit of armor more rough and brutal looking than the Warmachine. The press was going to go bonkers the first time they would catch her on film without the helmet on...

"We're ready, ma'am." one of the techs called out, and Alex nodded, stepping onto the platform. Activating the until-now dormant protocols, her skin shifted back to its natural silver, with golden stripes akin to printed circuits running along. The arms strained under the weight a bit, but eventually craned on every module of the suit. The modules lit up as soona s they came into contact with her or one another, power coursing through them for the first time outside of a laboratory.

To Alex, it felt as though she was finally alive, her powerplant finally needing to output more than 5% of it's designed power. "All modules reporting power and self diagnostic is in the green." Alex reported. She wished Dad could be here, but the Avengers were holding him in preparation for what was to come later today. At least she wasn't alone here for her big moment. "I'm ready, colonel Rhodes. You said you had some space garbage you needed to de-orbit?"

'Unca James' smiled at her, nodding. "It's time you learned how to play proper catch. We have a failing suveillance satellite on polar orbit. Control will upload orbital data to your suit. Your mission is to intercept the satelite and ascertain it's state. If you can, perform a repair, but the satellite is from the cold-war era and thus, repair mission is not economically viable. If it is nto salvageable, you are to dismount the data storage module and bring it back to the base after altering the satelite's orbit to burn up in the atmosphere over the Pacific." Alex nodded in understanding, making a note that Colonel rhodes knew the best games. How many uncles would elt their nieces go to space to fiddle with multimillion dollar pieces of military technology?

The door of the hangar finally opened and Alex put on the helmet, downloading the navigational data from the suit into her own memory. Of course, there were only three men in the world privy to her true nature, so Control uploaded the info into the suit first. Only Thomas, James, and to their neverending dismay, Nikolai Fury knew the truth behind her.

"STARKE-3, EDW Control. You are clear for takeoff. Good hunting."

"EDW Control, STARKE-3. 10-4, keep the lights on." Alex responded over the radio and linked into the multifield generators. Selecting a gravitational field, she gently lifted off of the pavement, having much greater control and stealthiness than Titanius or Warmachine who relied on repulsor based flight. Once she cleared the specified altitude though, she too switched the generators from projecting a gravity field into repulsor propulsion, giving herself much greater acceleration.

She shot upwards with an excited 'yeehaw', following a trajectory that would take her on approach to the faulty satellite. Soon the air around her started ionizing, as her suit battled the resistance of the atmosphere. The heavy defensive capabilities of the ASTRA suit were bought with abysmal aerodynamic properties, relying on power alone to keep it in flight and on course. Alex however linked into the chest generator, setting it to project a cone shaped, vectored repulsor field in fornt of her, essentially creating an aerodynamic shround in front of herself like the payload fairings on the common rockets. With that, her speed increased an order of magnitude and soon enough the sky started to turn from blue to black.

"STARKE-2, STARKE-3. I have visual on the target. I can see damage, likely solar wind and micrometeorites. Proceeding to have a closer look." She reported down.

"Three, two. Can you give us video?" came Rhodey's question from the ground. Acknowledging, Alex opened a channel through the Iridium constellation and started streaming what she saw to the base.

"Damage is not severe, but the section that housed the RTGs had been blown off, looks like a micrometeorite at work. The satelite lost power. Primary objective is a failure, proceeding with secondary objective." she reported, raising her hand and launching a tractor beam, pulling the satellite to her. Reachign around, she unplugged the drives and stored them in one of the armor's compartments, then she turned around and fired a low power repulsor blast at the satellite in a precisely calculated moment, slwoing it down enough to enter the atmosphere on a desired de-orbit. "Complete."

"Roger that, return to base."

turning around herself, Alex watched the Earth as she flown over it. It was so serene and beautiful. She could see the antarctica below her, before passing over China, the Arctic and then back to over the USA. When she was nearing her descent point, she manuvered aorund and engaged the repulsors again, coming virtually to a halt over the base and letting the gravity take a grip of her.

She started falling straight down at tremendous speed, slamming onto the atmosphere like a bag of bricks. Her excitememnt escalated into mad laughter as fire exploded around her and the armor's surface turned black with scorch marks.

Present time, Avengers tower...

One short stop at Edwards to offload the data droves and ehr her ear chewed out by Rhodey for 'attracting attention with her flaming atmospheric cannonball in a flamboyant manner only an offspring of Thomas Starke would be capable of', Alex was on her way to the Tower. She wanted to take the armor, but the techs insisted on running a detailed diagnostic after her maiden space flight, and so she had to lower herself to taking a military truck and then the subway.

Mirage was already waiting for her at the reception, arms folded on the chest and foot tapping in annoyed inpatience. "I know, I know, I'm going." Alex grunted as she hurried to the elevator, inputting her security code and selecting the floor where the meeting was to take place, wondering what band of misfits would she become a part of.
notebook died, hopefully post tomorrow
@DC The Dragon Hey, are you doin' okay? You kinda have me worried after the last time, don't do this to me man! D:
Hiraga - It has begun

She couldn't feel it, him yet, but there weren't many things that could spook Death, and half as many people. Right now, only one came to mind. As if on cue, a fairy appeared behind the same window as Iratze before, knocking furiously. Hiraga was right over, and listened to the little winged sprite whisper into her ear. "Maybell, Oregon." She called out to the rest of the room, specifying the destination. She didn't intend to wait for the rest of them though. Walking back to Iratze, she asked of the messenger: "Can you please find my daughter?" handing her a picture form her wallet. In her eternal wisdom, Hiraga still didn't think to get a cell phone, citing it as something beneath her. But without knowing how to use whatever divine powers Shirley was sure to have, Hiraga didin't count on needing her aid, not this soon. she didn't currently know where she was, but if someone could find her, it would have been the Messenger. "Please, tell her to meet me there as soon as she is able." Then the Earth's guardian was out the window and in a flash of light she vanished, traveling in her true form to reach the place in mere moments.

The place was a mess, she noticed as she descended, once more in her human form to spook the flesh bags as little as possible. With the mayhem that was going on the ground, they perhaps even didn't notice her descending form the clouds that gathered over the town. It didn't matter much to her if they did, though. Seeing several buildings on fire, she raised her arms and willed the clouds to rain over them to snuff the flames. It brought a small ghost of a smile to her face, to be able to use her appendages again, so to speak. then, she turned her eye to the military craft that was the cause of the mayhem, her eye watching if their puppetmaster was nearby.

Shirley - Food break over

The eater was inevitably drawn to the screen as well, alerted by everyone falling silent and pointing their gazes on the TV. As she watched, the pit she felt in her stomach seemed to grow, if that was even possible, although she knew hunger was not the cause of that. If those were terrorists, how did they managed to obtain military hardware on the United States' soil?

Her doubts were quickly snuffed though when in the corner of the view, one of the cameras caught what seemed like a woman crash down from the sky, only to land like a feather on the roof of one of the buildings. When she raised ehr arms to the skies and they torn open in a downpour, there was no doubt in her mind anymore. "Mom?" She asked rhetorically, before shaking her head. Forget the damn bells. If her mother's powers returned, perhaps she could shed some light on what was happening to her. "Tab, please!" She called out, fishing for her keys in a hurry.
