“Damn right, they’re adorable! They’re like, the cutest things I’ve seen, like, this whole week!” Iris exclaimed, wide adoring eyes glued on the Treeple™️ and the Treeple™️ alone. She moved the hand she used to wave over her chest, giving a small introductory bow. “I’m Iris. Good to meet you Groot! Or...Groots?” she said, a questioning tone taking over the second part of the statement. Her curious gaze turned downward to the bowl of strange water being presented to her, and her eyebrows crinkled together in confusion. She took it, gazing down into the water, strange herbs floating in it. She looked back to the tree things, her look of confusion replaced by one of skepticism and distrust, her lips curving into a frown. Often even cute things hid sharp teeth behind their adorable little kissable faces. Wolverines - the actual animal, not the mutton chop metal claw guy - had taught her that much. She cast an unsure side glance over at her team.

"I don't think this is a very good id-" she began, but stopped herself as Neil took the tiniest sip of his bowl of water. She watched hesitantly as Mira followed suit, drinking her entire bowl, which prompted Neil to finish his as well. Iris lifted the bowl up close to her lips, but the two didn't connect right away, instead waiting as Iris watched her teammates to see the effect it'd have on them. When Mira's voice came out clear, Iris' expression softened, a exhaling a breath she didn't know she was holding as a small smile returned to her face. She slammed back the drink, feeling the refreshing if slightly odd tasting water slide down her throat. As she pulled the empty bowl away from her mouth, she felt relief wash over her sore body. It felt good. She looked down at the herbs left in the bowl and, unsurprisingly, her mind only asked one question: could she smoke this stuff? It was something she definitely wanted to try. She wasn't sure exactly how she'd get more of the stuff, but she knew that, one way or another, she'd make a magical healing doobie. She lifted her head, about to ask the Treeple™️ for some more of the herb, when Neil started talking. She turned her head to him, tilting it slightly. "Why would we have to fight their boss? Wouldn't they not help us if their boss was evil?" she asked, before realization dawned on her. "Wait, is that a video game term? Because I've never played - Oh, wait, no, my dad made me play Mavis Beacon Teaches Typing when I was a kid, so there's one." she said, before looking back to the Treeple™️. "That was some dope tea! I don't mean to sound selfish, but do you got any more of those herbs?"

As Waverley quietly waited behind Veil, her she saw Cayden, a smile finding itself on her face at the sight of him. She lifted her hand, returning the wave. Her smile quickly faded, though, as a surprised expression fell over Waverley's face, hearing Veil ask Pietro to grab them some pizza. This was her life now. Her boss was the kind of person who could casually ask a famous superhero - and a soon-to-be Stark - to make a food run, and have him accept. It was a lot to take in. Of course, stranger things had happened in her short time there, but that little gesture was like a bow that wrapped around all of it.

Waverley's eyes flitted to Sapphire as she recounted what had happened to her and by extension, Waverley assumed, the rest of Gamma Team as well. She felt a twinge of guilt as the silver-haired woman spoke, though she knew that the guilt was entirely unreasonable. Waverley knew that, even if she had been there, there was nothing she could've done to protect her peers from actual, living, breathing dinosaurs. But that didn't do anything to push away the feeling inside her. It was like she was guilty that she didn't suffer right alongside them. She turned her gaze downward, before her attention was caught by the gust of wind entering the room. Quicksilver stood back before them, arms full of pizza, the scent of which caused Waverley's stomach to grumble. Her brain didn't feel like eating, not with the near-constant knots in her stomach, but it seemed like her body thought otherwise. But she knew that she didn't come first - the heroes returning from their mission did. She stepped forward, grabbing one of the pizza boxes out of Pietro's hands.

"Thanks," she mumbled, a small polite smile on her lips as she gave the young man a nod. Without saying anything more to him or anyone, she took the pizza and marched up the stairs. It didn't take long for her to find the others, the room they were in being the only one on the second floor with voices coming from it. As she neared the door way, her shoulders tensed. She tentatively entered. Not many people were still there; just James, Sunshine, Negasonic, and Havok. She lifted the pizza box up slightly, offering it out to them. "We got some pizza, if you guys want any," she started, unsure on where the group stood with her. She couldn't tell if they were upset that she wimped out, so she decided it'd be best if she acknowledged it rather than waiting to see their reactions. "Sorry for, uh, bailing earlier. When we got assigned the mission, I mean."

Fae Mintfree

Location: Train Hallway -> Compartment 15
Skills:

Fae's lips parted to reveal a toothy grin, giving Madalyne a light nudge with her shoulder as her only reply to the girl's minor teasing. When Elizabeth started leading the way to their previously decided destination, Fae didn't hesitate to follow her, walking down the hall side by side with Madalyne. But as soon as the group made it to the compartment, after Elizabeth gave a friendly greeting to the small crowd of nerds inside, one of whom responded with clear skepticism, the train came to a sudden lurching halt. The sudden stop robbed Mintfree of her balance, sending her stumbling back into the door of the compartment across from fifteen. She managed to regain her footing just in time, pushing herself away from the door as it automatically slid open. Fae's nose wrinkled in distaste as she looked up at the green lights now filling the train, eyes narrowing into squinting slits.

"You'd think they'd pick a more pleasant color, but apparently not..." she mumbled aloud, as much to herself as to her friends. She didn't react at all to the familiar voice of the trolley witch, instead walking forward a couple steps towards the Snap compartment. But she stopped when she noticed Maddie begin to walk back the way they came. A small frown adorned Fae's lips as her friend explained where she was going, even being so kind as to invite her. But even so, after a few seconds, Fae shook her head, a smile replacing the disappointed look that had been there. "That's probably not a good idea. Me in a room full of uppity prefects? It's a recipe for disaster. But there won't be any escape from me at dinner, ya hear?" she said in a chaffing tone as her friend walked away. She proceeded to step into compartment fifteen, standing next to and a little behind Flame. "Don't mind us. We were just fuckin' bored, so we thought we'd come watch your game."

Waverley flinched at Veil's reaction to her mention of Quicksilver being in the other room, the woman's fierce eyes pairing with her undomesticated hair to give off an air that was intimidating to the easily frightened teen. Her shoulders became tense, shrugging up around her ears, worried that maybe she’d said something wrong. But when Veil turned her attention away from her and instead to the others in the room, Waverley relaxed. She watched as the leader of the Underground adopted a commanding presence, telling Glimpse what she didn't need to do and telling Spark Plug what she did need to do. Waverley's eyes followed the frizzy-haired brunette as she walked through the room, right up to the moment that she passed Waverley to exit into the main hall.

It wasn't until Veil was gone that Waverley came to the realization that she had not been told what she needed to do, nor what she did not need to do. She straightened up from her position leaning against the door frame, looking to the familiar form of Colossus. Knowing him as a leader-like figure, her first instinct was to ask him what she could do to help, but when she saw him in what appeared to be an intimate conversation with the furry blue man they'd come back with, she decided it'd do more harm than good to interject for something so unimportant as what she should be doing. She wasn't sure where the others stood in the line of command, and besides, they all appeared to be busy among themselves, with Glimpse standing with Colossus over the blue mutant, and Spark Plug in conversation with Blink and one of the rescued kids. So, as she mentally berated herself for her lack of self-sufficiency, she turned around, following after Veil.

"Uh, Veil-" Waverley mumbled, but she quickly stopped speaking, her entrance having correlated with the Underground's collective reaction to the appearance of Pietro Maximoff - Pietro Stark? No, he wasn't a Stark yet, not until the wedding. As the other members spoke, primarily addressing the peculiarity of Quicksilver's presence, Waverley stood quietly a few meters behind Veil, radiating an energy akin to a lost puppy.

A smile began to crawl back onto Iris' lips as Sara stepped in between Mira and her, though it wasn't visible behind her metal mask. She was glad that someone else was stepping in. She had no intention of fighting with a teammate. She didn't see the point, especially over something as petty as the other girl not liking the cut of her jib. But any attempt of Iris' to dissuade Mira from arguing was only met with more arguing, so to see someone else take care of it brought relief to her. Her smile widened when Sara went on to make an effort to make her feel more welcome.

"Oh, you don't have to worry about me and your man. If I'm good at anything, it's keeping my heart on a leash!" she said, the amiable tone returned to her voice. She then turned her head to look towards her and Neil. "Thanks Sara. And you too, Neil Solstice Whatever. As she finished talking, the sound of Mira opening the door caused her to turn her head towards it. She shuffled into the room after Neil and Mira, softly mumbling, "Damn, I wish my aunt was a phoenix..." as she went. But any previous thoughts were struck from her mind as she caught sight of the creatures on the other side of the door.

"Woah...they're tree people! Treeple!" As she spoke, the metal encasing her head lowered, revealing her grinning face under her mostly-still-intact flower crown. Her eyes were full of wonder as she stared, following Neil in attempted somatic communication with the beings, waving her own hand. "They're not trying to kill us, so that's a good sign."

Fae gave a small nod, acknowledging the existence of the letters that Maddy had sent her. She had received them, and had replied to one or two of them, but she hadn't been able to write back more than that, a fact she couldn't help but feel guilty about. Partially, as she said, because of a lack of time, but also because of cost. Parchment wasn't cheap, and all the ink they kept around their shabby little shack was used solely for bookkeeping of her father's business. But her family's financial status wasn't something that she much liked to talk about, so she let the topic rest with only the answer of her busyness. A small chuckle slipped past her lips as she heard Elizabeth protestations.

"'Course, my apologies. You're one of the fun ones," Fae corrected, knowing that the revised compliment would be more in the mischievous girl's taste. Her lips turned into a small frown, hearing that her voice had been brought down to its normal volume. The disappointment didn't last long, however, as she immediately turned her head back to Maddy, a grin perched back on her lips. "Oh, no need to feel guilty, I'm just fuckin' with ya. I'm a big girl, I can handle myself. It's everyone else that should be worried!" Fae's tone was joking and full of amusement, though that wavered slightly when Flame suggested that they spend a little time together. Fae loved the two girls with all her heart, but part of her was worried they might not end up feeling the same way about one another. Madalyne's restraint paired with Elizabeth's abandon wouldn't necessarily make for a good combination. But then again, if Maddy could handle Fae's recklessness, perhaps she'd get along with Flame swimmingly. With that thought, Fae nodded her head. "Sounds like a fun time if I've ever heard one," she said, before twisting her neck to look at the trolley witch still making her way down the hall. "I know she told us to go back to our original compartments, but there's no better bonding activity than watching a bunch of geeks play Exploding Snap, so I say we stay on Plan A."

"Ah...that blows. Why are all the best superhero names taken?" Waverley asked, her dorky grin curving down into a slight frown as she heard the news about Mercury. As she asked the question, however, she heard footsteps coming from the dining room. She turned her head to see James, the messiah she'd seen do the healing the children the day before, leaning against the scraggly man who could theoretically talk to ghosts as the two of them entered the room. Waverley straightened up in her seat, worriedly looking to James in search of injuries, but despite his visible weakness, she saw none. She was about to ask about what had happened, but then Casper caught sight of Pietro and went into a frenzy. He made some comment about his father, and it sounded like Pietro knew exactly who he was talking about. Did that mean that Casper's father was one of the X-Men? Which one? Waverley scrolled through the X-Men she knew in her head. With the boy's relative youth, it could've really been any number of the older ones - except Professor X, of course, with the whole paralyzed-lower-half thing. She didn't expect he was capable of having any little Xlings with his handicap.

As the discussion got more heated, primarily from Casper's end, Waverley began to squirm in her seat, unsure of what to do in the middle of such an exchange. Hearing voices from the kitchen, she ceased the opportunity to leave, getting up from her seat and briskly walking to the dining room, passing by a familiar man whom Waverley hadn't officially met. Once she got to the dining room, she leaned against the door frame, peering inside for any other members of the Mutant Underground. She found some, but her attention was immediately pulled off of them when she caught sight of the other inhabitants of the room: people of nothing more than skin and bone, and a blue-furred man on their table. Waveley could feel her stomach churn, pity for the poor mutants welling up inside of her. She couldn't stop her mind as it immediately turned to memories of Gollum from Lord of the Rings, with his thin, frail form and arched back. She felt guilty, but they reminded her of him as they devoured any scrap of food that they laid their eyes on. She swallowed the lump that had formed in her throat as she looked back up to Veil.

"Quicksilver from the X-Men is here. He says that Professor X is going to be stopping by sometime soon," Waverley said, disbelief still in her voice as she said the X-Men leader's name. Her eyes flicked back to the saved prisoners as a hint of worry entered her eyes. With a pair of furrowed eyebrows, she reached out her mind towards them, feeling around the victims for any signal they might be sending out. It didn't take her long to find them: a signal coming from every single one of them, each one feeling like a marionette string leading to an unknown, far off place. Waverley stood up straight, pushing herself off the door frame with wide, panicked eyes. "Fuck, they're being tracked!" she exclaimed. Her look of panic froze on her face as she entered a pseudo-trance, her eyes staring off into space. She reached out to the signals, unsure on how to approach them at first. She prodded at the signals, trying to figure out what exactly she needed to change to get her desired effect. After she had, she got to work. Her first attempt proved less than successful, but when she tried again, she managed to edit the signal enough give off the message that the group was nine blocks away from where they actually were. Waverley, figuring that was far enough, pushed her influence over the radio waves to the source of the signals, overloading the tracking devices in the rescues. Her tense shoulders relaxed as she let out a deep sigh, the fear fading from her face as she dropped out of her trance-like state. "Okay, we should be good. I managed to edit the signal and fry the transmitter. Whoever's on the other end is going to think that they were a ways away from here when their trackers died."

Iris winced as her attempt to defuse Mira's disliking of her only caused to girl to launch into another heated tirade. But this one was different, as for a majority of it, she didn't even understand what was being said. She kept her head pulled back as Mira berated her with words she didn't know the meanings of, unsure of how to respond. So she didn't. She kept her mouth closed, hoping that the usually quiet girl had run out of fuel. But she hadn't, instead immediately going on a rant on the dangers of splitting up. This lecture was also one that Iris didn't entirely understand, not because it was in a different language, but because it referenced numerous things that she knew nothing to very little about.

Without a response, Iris let a frown clearly decorate her lips for a moment, before allowing the helmet of her suit to rise back up, hiding her head and crushing the flower crown ever so slightly. She watched as Mira walked to the entrance of one hallway, letting out a scream, before doing the same to the second hallway. As Mira moved, though, Iris saw her stumble, her body looking like it could fall. The blonde girl took a worried step forward, reaching a hand towards Mira's shoulder in attempt to keep her up, only for the girl to catch herself on the wall, causing Iris to drop her arm. When Mira pointed down the first hallway, Iris pushed her concealed lips into an exaggerated pout.

"Well if I knew you could do that, I wouldn't have suggested we split up..." Iris quietly mumbled, a mock tone of dejection in her voice as she followed her group down the hall.

Fae Mintfree

Location: Train Hallway

Fae felt a tinge of guilt when the trolley witch, rather than responding with anger or annoyance, responded instead with understanding of her actions and the harsh insults she'd thrown at the older woman. If the trolley witch had gotten mad, at least Fae could've marked her down in her head as an adversary and continued her tangent, but she didn't, which made Fae pause, unsure what to say. When Mary suggested that cursing out the authority figure probably wouldn't end with the best results, Fae decided she'd heed the advice and not say anything more - after all, Mary was the smartest person in all of Hogwarts. So she watched with a slight frown as the elderly woman continued down the hall, and once she was a decent distance away, Fae's smirk came back to her lips as she leaned in, bringing her face closer to Maddy and Flame.

"Well that blows. Shovin', swearin', and threatenin' happen to be some of my favorite things!" she whispered as she felt the light weight of Felix taken off of her shoulders, brought back into the snug embrace of his owner. She had intended it to be a quiet side remark, but when the words came out of her mouth, they sounded much louder than she intended, ringing throughout the hallway. In fact, they seemed louder than she thought whispers actually could be. Her eyes widened at the surprise of her volume, pursing her lips. "WHAT-" she began to ask in what she attempted to be a normal voice, only for it to come out thunderous. It caused her to stop once again, a wicked smile crossing her face as she turned back to Ismelda.

"WELL WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR?! PISS OFF YA EMO!" she shouted. She could feel the raw power rumbling up her throat, projecting into the room, amplified by the seemingly sourceless magic. It felt like she was a roaring lion, and she knew it sounded like it too. Even so, the girl didn't seem fazed in the slightest. She had to give the girl props for guts. When she failed to get a reaction out of Ismelda, Fae turned back to Maddy, shrugging her shoulders.

"Nah, not right now. But don't be surprised if you hear me boastin' about it in the common room later," she said, brushing off the offer to talk over the events that had just unfolded. Instead, her wicked grin turned into a more wholesome, somewhat dorky smile of excitement. She stepped forward, enveloping Madalyne in a massive bear hug that was almost tight enough to hurt, but not quite. She'd inherited what she called 'the perfect hug' from her father. "Fuckin' a, Mads, it's good to see ya! Sorry I couldn't write much this summer. Been workin' on commissions with m'pops." she said, her voice still booming, and right next to Maddy's ear, for that matter. After a few seconds, she pulled away from the hug, leaving a hand on the girl's shoulder. "Did Mary tell you how broken up I was about you leaving me alone on the platform?" she asked, before raising her other hand dramatically to her forehead, acting faint. "The ultimate betrayal!" she said, her voice making a mocking attempt at faux sadness. Her face straightened out, however, when Madalyn grouped Flame and Ismelda together, telling them they best go. Fae looked over to Flame, placing a hand on Elizabeth's shoulder, before turning back to Maddy. "Oh, no need to get all prefect-ey on Flame here. She may be a snake, but she's one o' the good ones." Fae stated, emphasizing what she intended to be a compliment with a soft squeeze of Flame's shoulder.

"Right..." she said in response to Pietro's declaration of his engagement, a very light tone of disappointment detectable in her voice. The news sounded vaguely familiar to Waverley, and she suspected she'd seen it on the cover of some magazine somewhere along the line, but it was still a little disheartening. Sounded like she had a Dream Wedding folder to delete next time she was back home. The feeling disappointment didn't last long, however, being pushed to the back of her mind as another gust of wind whirled in the room, and the silver-haired man disappeared from where he had been standing. Waverley tensed up, looking around, finding him stretched out on top of one of their couches. The guy was fast. And not just in terms of running. The way he talked overwhelmed Waverley, who was still stunned that she was in the presence of a celebrity.

"Um...Waverley..." she answered as she walked towards him, tentatively taking a seat in a beat up old arm chair beside the couch. As soon as she spoke, she remembered the existence of her 'superhero' name. She opened her mouth to correct herself, but she didn't. After everything that happened, she wasn't sure it felt right. "Just Waverley," she said instead, offering a pleasant smile to Pietro. At that moment, she heard a quiet noise from the dining room, and twisted her head towards it instinctively. She couldn't tell for sure, but it didn't sound any different to her than the other rat activity that the bunker seemed to be home to. So she shrugged it off, turning back to face the speedster.

"So Pietro," she began, her voice sounding uncertain as she spoke. But as she continued to speak, her words picked up speed, a geeky joy rising to the surface. "Are you, like, in the business for a superhero name? Because I could totally help you with that. In fact, what do you think about this: Mercury. It has a double meaning, because it's the name of the Roman God of travel, but it's also the name of a metallic colored element! Like your hair! Get it?" The way she spoke did little to hide the pride she felt at coming up with the name, making her nerdy delight obvious.
