Got these post header banners done, will get to the others tonight or tomorrow. I didn't save the .PSD but if for whatever reason you'd like a redo or something, I'll see what I can do. I'm still a bit rusty and didn't want to get too crazy with too many tweaks.
Chasing Demons in the Summer Sun AKA How I Spent my Summer Vacation Hunting Demons and Doing Other Odd Stuff
RP Status:
Accepting Applicants: YES
Character Count: TBD
RP Requests: TBD
RP Date: Friday April 15'th 2017
Rules:
- Post around 3 to 4 paragraphs, more welcomed though.
- Post once a week. Unlike my usual RPs, I will not be enforcing a Rounds System (where we all post once and wait for one another). Instead, I will be letting you all post whenever you want. If you want to post frequently and interact with 1-2 people, I'm not going to complain as long as it's 4 to 5 paragraphs. If you don't post for a while, you run the risk of falling behind or us writing you out and it'll be up to you to write yourself back in. By letting you guys post without pressure or expectations, I am hoping this eases things.
- Be active in the OOC, even if it's not RP related. We can get to know each other, give each other heads up about real life constraints, and we can plot too. This isn't my show I'm running, it's ours. So just communicate and we'll all find things operate a lot more smoothly.
- Curse if you want, I don't give a fuck. Just be cool about it.
- Be okay with blood and mature themes. It may come up, it may not but either way, you've been warned.
- Have fun guys, I'm not GM'ing to be a mother. I'm not interested in nagging for posts. If we're having fun, I assume posts will come without a problem.
Dynamics and Directions:
This RP is going to come off as cheesy sometimes but that's totally fine. We're here to have fun and explore the city and it's sneaky inhabitants. The general tone is going to be light and carefree but since our characters are adults, they will be put into dangerous situations where they probably will injure themselves. They're not special or exempt from risk after all. Over the course of the RP, I will be posting requests in the OOC we can look when we're in the Community Center. Taking these requests can earn us money, items or even steer us to find powerful spirits.
In the interest check I estimated that overall we'd have:
20% Fighting/Combat
35% Slice of Life (going to school, spending time at home, doing homework, working part time, going to the park etc)
I still stand by that but again it's a general idea. And in the beginning it's going to take time to adjust to slice of life and it's pacing. I know it's not for everyone but I trust if you're joining, you're dedicated enough and able to enjoy the ups and downs of long term RPs. I also trust that you're capable of speaking up and giving us ideas. If you're feeling bored, speak up and say we should go get another request or explore some creepy alleyway. I'm a GM not a mind reader. I rely on players to keep things afloat too. It's not all on me, guys.
By the way, we will be keeping track of money in this RP. It's about fucking time characters are held accountable for feeding themselves and changing clothes and earning money. So please keep your character's money up to date as we go along because you know what, if someone is broke, we might shift direction and take more jobs or we might turn to a life of crime and rob people. You never know.
Also, as we begin, I will also be updating information about the various spirits and demons. This isn't going to be like Pokemon where they have so many moves and powers. Each entity will have one signature attack and effect. We won't keep track of HP either, we're going for something organic remember? Again, I'll introduce the basics through the RP and through here so keep an eye out.
The Starting Point, Setting and Locations:
The starting day in the roleplay will be Friday April 15'th, 2016 at around 7:30 PM. Our characters have just finished their lazy afternoon up at the river on Mount Wildwood. They have just uncovered a mysterious wooden box containing peculiar watches covered in dust. But before you can make your way over to Timers and More, a massive demon appears out of nowhere and decides you're his dinner!
The RP tales place in the city of Springdale and its suburbs. We won't be using street names but since our characters have grown up in Springdale, they should know the landmarks and their relation to one another. As a note, not all shops have been detailed so feel free to do what you'd like with them. I also didn't mention all of the side streets since they seemed redundant but they're still around for our us. Lastly there are vending machines littered around Springdale so feel free to improvise there too if you'd like.
Ignore some of the icons and people's houses that I don't mention, they're more for the game than this RP.
A large mountain that overlooks the entirety of Springdale. It's sprawling wildness is the perfect habitat for many demons and spirits. Once you make it up the series of stone steps and through the winding dirt path, you'll find yourself in front of the Wildwood Shrine. It's here that many festivals take place to honor the past and its spirits. The shrine is run by an elderly couple but they seldom get visitors unless there's a school field trip passing through.
There are two stone staircases that take you to the left or the right behind the shrine. The right path leads to an old large tree where its said the lines between this world and next begin to blur. Taking the left path, you begin down a long pathway into the denser wooded area. You'll pass by Catfish Pond and even be able to spot the Wild Waterfall further beyond the river. Soon you'll find an abandoned house to the left where you're sure something sinister must have happened. If you keep going, you'll find a small bridge that will take you into a series of caves and mines, all abandoned. Following the path to the right, you'll keep climbing up and come across a large wooden bridge that takes you back down the massive mountain, following the river back to Catfish Pond.
Dead Middle - Uptown Springdale:
People park in the parking lot beside Springdale Elementary to get up to Mount Wildwood. Next to the elementary school is the city's preschool, Little Buds. Triangle Park, Everymart and the Community Center are also nearby. At the Community Center, jobs and favors are listed for residents to take. Other events take place like dance lessons and comic book exchanges. Further south along the riverbank you'll see the local garden shop, Beautiful Blooms. The majority of Uptown is filled with middle class and upper middle class homes and walkways. There's also Banter Bakery and near that, you'll find Piggleston Bank.
Down the street from that is the Lambert Post Office and the Jungle Hunter, a place where collectors of fish and bugs congregate to trade, sell and busy for money or valuables. You'll then move up north to the Fish Market. While Uptown is a pretty safe neighborhood, there are some unsettling areas: The Catwalk, Shady Back Alley, and Desolate Lane are all dead-end nooks where unsavory people and demons like to gather. A lot of stolen goods and crime can be traced back to said crevices.
Middle Left - Blossom Heights:
A place for the hardworking lower middle class and lower class. The main attraction is the hill which houses Shoten Temple, it's here you can pray and even ask a skilled old lady for charms and blessings. Still on the left side of the train tracks, you'll find another Everymart down south and Wayfarer Manor where an old factory once stood but has since been condemned. On the right side of the tracks, there is the old mansion where many teens and kids like to hang out by, though it's pretty unstable and has had many odd occurrences happen with injuries.
Next you'll see a Candy Shop, supplying those with a sweet tooth, sustenance. Moving further south again, you'll run into the Springdale Hot Springs where you can soak in a hot rock pool and cool down with flavored milk. There's also Timers and More, where watches and other gadgets get fixed up by the wily old owner. To the left, there's the Sunshine Station which takes you to Springdale Central Station in Downtown Springdale. Lastly, you've got Opal Bike Shop, the best place to get a bike, skateboard or roller blades. Many kids who turn nine get to go down with their parents and pick something out, almost like a rite of passage.
Middle Right - Breezy Hills:
Where the rich and posh live. You'll find this sloping neighborhood is filled with large houses and little else. Up at there very north is the Stone House where the major of Springdale lives. Despite the old fashioned mansion, the major and his wife are very generous and down to earth people. Moving down, you'll find Wisteria Gardens but it's mostly for people to admire nature and classical music, nothing too special really. At the bottom you'll find Gourd Pond Museum which is home to many modern and old works of art, sculpture and artifacts. Classes will often tour it throughout the year to look at its many exhibits that change through the year.
Once outside, you'll be face to face with Gourd Pond itself though it's much bigger than Catfish Pond. There's an Everymart in the lower right section of Breezy Hills and to the left is the Seabreeze Tunnel which lets people walk from Breezy Hills to Downtown. The unmarked six sets of buildings in the bottom right are known as Arcadia Academy where college students reside on campus and finish up their years of education.
Lower Left - Shoppers Row:
This is the place to be when you've got money to burn in your pocket. Springdale Flower Road is the long stretch of shops enclosed under the pink stone tunnel. You'll find North Wind Ramen, Settle In Bookstore, Harmony Boutique, Frank's Butcher Shop, Nan's Grocery, Stylish Bits and Bobs, Al's Antiques and Springdale Records. If you take the east exit in the shopping pavilion, you'll spot Mary's Coin Laundry and Whatta Find. At Whatta Find, you can trade odd items and see what other's are collecting. Maybe your trash is someone's treasure? Across the street is Tranquility Apartments.
There are other small homes scattered around the area but it's a pretty quiet place with little hustle and bustle. Off to the southeast is Nocturne Hospital, an abandoned hospital that was partly destroyed in an earthquake twenty years ago. If you make your way up, you'll find Shoppers Row's Everymart but also not far is a small bridge that takes you over the tracks that lead into the downtown area.
Lower Right - Downtown Springdale:
This is the most busy of all the suburbs. Starting southeast, you have Rolling Waves Park which has two piers on either end, a cafe. Going up north, you'll hit the Seabreeze Tunnel and Arcadia Arcade, a place with many video games. Over the well, overpass, you can reach Nom Burger and the Springdale Station Square. Moving through the station, you'll find Foundation Academy where your education continues after elementary school for another glorious four years.
Northwest you've got Fortune Hospital, the best place for medical comfort and care. A bit below is Frostina's, a little dive bar where the alcohol is aplenty. And down below, you have the construction zone which will open up a new building for shops and offices but at the moment, things are moving slow for some reason. The major said the project would be finish in 2014 and yet it's 2016 and it's barely halfway completed. And at the bottom, you have Springdale's Business Tower where the big choices are made. It's 25 stories high and is home to many companies and important people.
- One or both parents are dead. - Your character is a bully or a victim of one. - Your character clearly doesn't interact well or even around other people. - Your character is good at everything. - Your character is bad at everything. - They are under 13 and yet are smart enough to go to college.
Any of these or other silly overused cliches are off the table, please and thank you. I know we're going for a bit of a cheesy thing here but come on guys...have some restraint when making your character. They're an ordinary person. They've got faults and flaws but they also have passions and talents. The CS should be posted here before I approve it and you post it in the CS tab. Failure to do so will result in your character being mocked for no reason in the roleplay. Hell, they might even be mugged on a stormy night. You never know...

I tried to keep it pretty straightforward and simple. I'm not looking for paragraphs upon paragraphs of writing in the CS, I need to get to know your characters. Though if you're able to provide some kind of sample of your work if we haven't yet worked together, that would be awesome but it's not required. I'm not going to nitpick any mistake but I will ask questions if I need to know more about your character if I sense anything alarming. If you got any questions, please ask em since they'll be beneficial for all of us.
In the CS tab I will save a space for our requests/plot progression, as well as the demons we come across and stuff.
In terms of how long I'll wait before starting, I wanna give it through the week if possible but I'd rather we start sooner than later. If you're wondering if you can make up your own demons, you can but just not right away. I'm gonna give it a month or two before I welcome demon suggestions. But if you have an idea for a request, you're welcome to suggest something now or whenever.
I'm done rambling now, folks. I'm sure I'll come back and edit any errors I've made or clarify something something something.
@Juicy What was disappointing was the outright refusal to meet me halfway and the way your reply read, it came off a little snippy to me. Again, it's the internet so it's difficult to really know how text is inferred by others etc. I understand everyone has differing priorities when it comes to hobbies and deciding where free time goes; that said I don't think what I was asking was really a large time investment. Still, it's not a huge deal to me and I was/am happy to shrug it off and move on.
@71452K Looks good to me, feel free to post him in the CS tab.
@LostBrotherGrimm Alrighty, let me know when you're done then you're probably gonna be good to go.
@Juicy If that's how you feel, I can't change that. I asked nicely to see if you could try to look and you flat out refused to do that. No it's not a deal breaker but I guess the way your response came off is a little disappointing. But it's the internet, the way I'm inferring your tone might not be the way you intended. Since we're at an impasse, you can post to the CS tab.
In other news, @Kenaron has stepped forward to help as co-GM. So that's freaking sweet. They'll be working closely with me to ensure things move smoothly. With any luck we can iron out all the detail by tonight or tomorrow (I will be busy tomorrow picking my mother up from the airport and may be busy with her, depending if she's tired or not). And then Wed I have an eye exam in the AM so at worst, the IC would be up Wed afternoon but I see it happening sooner, gotta finish some graphics and make sure everyone's good with their CS.
