Heavy bootsteps echoed as Vincent entered a short alley, the moon glowing in the black sky overhead. His clenched fist trembled. He'd been told that "all known" entry points would be continuously monitored, but considering he'd only ever been through one passageway into the other world, he was pretty sure they'd only pinpointed one.

Vincent exited, and looked overhead at the wine-red sky. They couldn't send transmissions interdimensionally, meaning he was alone with his thoughts and the automatic shotgun he removed from his duffel bag. Japan's gun laws were unbelievably strict, but government sanctions provided him with firearms delivered right to his doorstep. The masked man loaded a fresh drum into the machine, and slung a hefty greatsword over his back. Even these would be enough for the grunts littering the streets, weak offscourings that needed to swarm to take down even a human.

A shadowy figure seemed to peek around the corner before receiving a full blast of buckshot to its face. Yanking the pin of a grenade out with his thumb, the Executioner strolled towards the center of town, firing at anything that dared to present itself. Tonight's execution had begun, and fire would herald his coming.
Name: Vincent

Title: Executioner Vincent. Partly because it's his codename, partly because of what he does.

Gender: Male

Age: 23

Height: 6'10"

Weight: 450lbs.

Appearance: A hulking figure nearing seven feet in height, Vincent's body is tightly wrapped in thick, incredibly hard muscle. His face looks haggard and weathered, topped by a mess of blonde hair over green, tired eyes. His skeleton is thicker than a normal humans, and bone has broken through his skin on the knuckles, elbows, and other striking points.
Every inch of the man's skin is covered by a set of gray BDUs and heavy combat boots. Black gloves and a heavy, hooded leather coat cover the rest. Vincent's face is concealed by a plain white mask, with a pair of black lenses covering the eyes.

Personality: A grim, silent figure, Vincent saves his words until he spots his next target, at which point he tends to declare his intention of killing said monster with extreme prejudice. Since the death of his sister, he's lost a spark inside of him, replaced with a deep hatred of Youkai. This has become his raison d'etre, and he rarely considers anything else.

Vincent had a huge soft spot for his little sister, and that can extend to people who remind him of her. Most other people get a blank glare at best.

Short Bio: Vincent spent much of his previous life mostly normal. He was a young man, working to support himself and his younger sister. Though life was tough, he was happy. One night, a wrong turn led the pair into the other world. Assaulted by man-eating monsters, Vincent saw his sister killed, and barely escaped with his life.
The crazed pleas and police report soon filtered to the upper echelons of society, and Vincent found himself drafted into a government black project. The joint partnership of Japan, the USA, Germany, and England, had begun research into the paranormal and especially the Crimson Sky. While much of this new world is unknown, it was quickly apparent to government officials that many of its occupants were hostile to human life, and as such it was deemed necessary to create a new type of soldier to cull off these hostile beings. Vincent was abducted and offered a chance to join the first generation, on the basis of two reasons. The first was that he was healthy enough to potentially survive the dangerous process of enhancing his body. The second was that he had developed an extreme hatred of Youkai. There was no way he'd go rogue, and would happily oblige with defending humanity.

Of the forty-three chosen to undergo the augmentation process, twelve survived. Of those, ten were hospitalized with permanent disabilities, some unable to move. Vincent is one of the only two to fully become an Executioner.

In the time since then, Vincent has devoted himself fully to fighting off the Youkai menace. Every night he enters that crimson realm, and a trail of destruction is follow.

Powers: Vincent has gone through extremely heavy biological modification. His muscle and bone density has been increased several times, giving him superhuman levels of strength and durability. In addition, the bone thickness has increased and changed shape. His ribcage has fused, covering the gaps between ribs. He's also been implanted with a secondary set of adrenaline glands, giving him the ability to push himself further even during extreme bouts of fatigue or stress. Even his platelets have been altered, allowing him to better stop bleeding during combat.
Though he lacks magical potential, the sheer physical prowess achieved by his augmentations allow him to fight the most ferocious of youkai.

Weapons: Initial contact equipment consists of a primary long gun, a handgun, and a melee weapon. Vincent's typical setup consists of a Saiga-12 with a thirty-round drum, a S&W Model 500, and a claymore sword with a high durability blade.

However, Vincent also possesses a Trump Card: the Executioner Special Armament System. A satellite is kept in geosynchronous orbit above Vincent's current location, passing into the other world by carefully weaving through the shadows in moonlight created by space debris. This satellite is capable of quickly deploying highly specialized heavy weapons via a drop pod, often of such a high weight that only Vincent, with his enhanced strength, is capable of using them. These range from immense, oversized swords, to gatling guns and anti-tank rifles.

Equipment: A small, red ribbon bearing no special qualities.

Other: Currently bears no affiliation to the Hunters' Association.
So...I'm not quite sure what the problem here is. Not every Youkai is going to tank bullets. As KoL said before, it really is random. But that being the case, it's still going to hurt like hell if you shoot, say, a rocket at them. Or a buttload of high caliber bullets from a minigun. It'll take longer to kill them, sure, but it will still cause a mess as long as the firepower is ramped up.

Thank you
The way i see it is like in a god fight. no mortal man can stand up to a god, but make him a demi-god and suddenly he has enough power to fight for the lesser man. not so much that he's doing anything different, just granted access by the laws which govern that universe.

That demi-god nonsense only works in Percy Jackson.

There's plenty of shows and even legends in which normal humans have fought magical beings or even gods and won. Even in Greek myth, Odysseus was a normal human who pissed off Poseidon, and he still came out on top. He killed a bunch of monsters and went on all sorts of adventures.

I can answer for Kat.

Those firearms? They're mostly for distractions and whatnot. I never intended for them to be a major play in her arsenal. Distract, stun. Plus, she does have magic, which she will use to the fullest extent of her abilities. She's just a military girl and loves her guns and likes using them because it makes her feel warm and fuzzy inside. She however, also realizes her guns probably aren't going to do much to stop a youkai. Especially if said youkai is made out of steel or something that's not flesh/stronger than flesh.

The only one of her firearms I see doing any sort of damage, is if she shoots something in the face with her Shotgun. And even then, I doubt it'll do much.

And I have no problem with any of this, since it's the way I intended for it to be.

I also figured that a lot of Youkai have really high physical abilities and that anything stronger than like, low-tier grunts can tank small arms. But instead of magic, I gave Vincent access to really high power weaponry, like miniguns or oversized melee weapons. Even his physical stats were designed around letting him go toe to toe with something like an Oni in a fist fight.
>not a thread that is tailored to anyone focused on melee
Ok. I guess you've never had a RPG with elemental buffs. Or spellfencers. Or watched Madoka/Nanoha/Symphogear.

Feel free to understand that way.

RPGs with elemental buffs only increase damage, not ramp it from zero to a hundred. And they're often applied to mundane warriors in the first place.
Granted, RPGs often have an enemy or two that's immune to physical damage, but conversely they will also have an equal number of enemies entirely immune to magical damage, and have to be killed with mundane attacks.
This was the answer I got from KoL a week or so back.

And it's also been implied before that some other youkai are simply intangible ghosts of energy. I mean, really, yeah, youkai are tradiationally ghosts. Why would plain ol' physical weapons effect them the first place? That's why the OOC has this:

Not sure about how the Crimson Sky is in this particular incarnation of the RP, but I got the impression in the past that the Crimson Sky was essentially another dimension. Not totally sure about the whole 'why are no other humans aware that youkai are popping around everywhere', but I think it might be because only people who have crossed the boundary into the Crimson Sky are aware of their existence.

Sorta like gaining a supernatural sixth sense? Guess that's also why you don't have Trump telling the public that they need to build a wall to keep the Youkai out.

And eh, maybe there's a weapon section for people who require tools to channel their powers through? Maybe it's expected that Chasers have unique supernatural weapons, or at least ones that have been enhanced by Carver?

Even if some Youkai are intangible, I imagine many are still physical. Even if they have heavy armor, they're still flesh. Furthermore, you still haven't explained what makes "magic" guns different from regular ones.

Again, there's no discernable different between the monster getting a stab wound from a sword, or one of Hawlin's thorns or GrafRoy's ice spears.
And another character also uses mundane firearms. What about her?
I would also like to know how physical armaments fail to impact the youkai in any way. What are they that they would be completely immune to physical influence yet able to walk the physical street?
During the nights of Crimson Sky, are they vulnerable in their own terrain as it blurs the borders? If not, what is "hope" in a world where malicious ghosts run rampant? How would nobody notice other than us?

Furthermore, a number of characters are already in who fight with physical

I've been waiting for someone to ask since Ive been less than thrilled with the ambiguous excuse for their immunity which is never elaborated upon...to the point of using magic to excuse the effectiveness of melee. (Why would there be a 'Weapon' section if weapons did nothing? (I assumed there would eventually be enemies where weapons mattered...but then what about characters without damaging magic until then?))

Elaborating on this, there's no distinguishing features or details about magic to why magic is able to hurt them. I mean, you could stab a Youkai with a sword, or with a big spiky thorn you created using your magic, but at the end of the day it's still just a stab wound.
Those are some interesting new things.

And, more specifically, youkais are immune to handheld firearms, for various reasons. Dunno about their ability to take on tanks, but you could solve the problem just by saying that your shit is magically enchanted.

Magic goes against the motif I had in mind for Vincent. His whole point is he's powered by science and bullets, not wizardry.

Furthermore, can you state why Youkais are immune to firearms? Or what those reasons are? Or how magic differentiates from standard physical damage? I see a couple of characters who fight with regular projectiles or physical damage, and a few incendiaries.
Oh hello yes I would like to join
