@Masterkeun@supertinykingHope all is well! Those kind of illnesses are the worst :(

Apologies on my late post as well, busy work/travel week for me. I have the weekend off though!
C.J. felt a pang of relief as Richard scooped up his Ekans and stormed off towards the village. She knew the burly man had meant well and made note to check in on him and his Pokémon before the day was over. Zulu slithered up his trainer's ankle, wrapping securely just below her knee, as she strode towards Violet and the others. C.J. pondered the other girl's questions, turning her head towards both the forest and the village multiple times. She rested her hand against the Pokéball attached to her leather belt as she answered, "I'd like to see if my new Poliwag can get in one good battle before dark. Zulu's also well rested and might need to burn of some energy before we call it a day."

C.J. smiled brightly as she added, "Anyone is welcome to join us!" With that sentiment, she nodded to each trainer as she walked slowly away towards the forest's edge. Faint light was shining from the vibrant sky above, casting playful shadows on the grass below. Zulu constricted, and C.J. reached down to pat him assuredly. There was still plenty of time before dark, and after watching the ferocious Pinsir battle she knew her team needed experience to win one of those ribbon cases. Her feet lingered at the edge of the foliage wall; her mind vaguely wondering if anyone would follow in her footsteps. She closed her eyes, grinned, and took a deep breath as she quietly crossed the threshold.

C.J. nodded and shook Violet's hand as she returned the introduction. "Nice to meet you, Violet. I'm C.J. and you've already met my Zulu." She held up the arm that wasn't extended to Violet and shook it enough that Zulu's serpentine head popped out from below her wrist. His scaly body was still a rosy color, and he quickly tucked himself back inside the girl's sleeve.

C.J. turned as Mike's Pokéball bounced off the Pinsir and erupted in a red glow. Both girls' knuckles went white at their sides as it shook violently on the ground. A sigh of relief from C.J. and an encouraging shout from Violet confirmed Mike had captured the bug bully. Richard would be furious, and it seemed Lance had already readied an attack against the martial artist's Caterpie. C.J. followed Violet carefully across the bridge at her invitation, keeping her distance at the back of the battling group. Zulu dropped to her ankles and curled his tail protectively inside the lip of her boot.

Lance and Violet had already taken to battling Richard's Pokémon, but C.J. stood at attention if the fight got dirty. Mike still seemed in shock over his big catch, but she waved feebly in his direction as Violet's Eevee attempted to lower Richard's Ekans' accuracy with a sand attack.

@medalliah@rocketrobie2@pkken
Zulu's eyes widened as Violet's Eevee flew across the river with a simple flick of the Pinsir's menacing horns. His body didn't have time to react as she skirted through the dirt and grass, knocking the snake backwards. C.J. gently swept the dirt clods from her pants while Violet shouted angrily at Richard. After scolding the man, Violet dashed across the bridge to tend to her wounded Pokémon. Zulu slithered closer to his trainer's side, keeping his curious and empathic eyes fixed on Eevee.

Violet gingerly brushed Eevee's tuft of hair aside as she administered a potion to the weakened Pokémon. C.J. scratched the back of her neck as she searched for the words to say, Zulu suddenly slithered away leaving his partner still grasping at straws. "Y'all work great as a team! Sorry about your bow, Eev..." C.J. was gratefully interrupted by Zulu who was carrying a long stemmed dandelion weed in his mouth. His whole body was reddened by a blush as he placed it in front of Violet's Eevee.

As soon as it hit the grass, Zulu dashed to hide within C.J.'s yellow jacket. She laughed aloud, nodding towards the small flower at Eevee's feet. "I guess Zulu is sorry about your bow too, sweet girl." C.J. patted her forearm and looked across the river. She knew Richard meant well, but he had angered Mike, Lance, and Violet with his act of honor. She bit her lip and shook her head as she questioned Violet, "What should we do now?"

So are we just waiting for Snarful's intro post in the IC?
@jagajac Congrats you caught your first pokemon. Poliwag is level three with the egg move mist. You also gain from catching your first pokemon 1 level for the pokemon used, so ekans is level 3. You also receive 100Z you can post in here to use the store at anytime.

Thank you! Did Zulu gain any XP or Z from fainting that Caterpie that attacked them in the forest? I know that post was a while back, but I never saw a post about it in the OOC, and I didn't want to just assume. Trying to make sure I fully understand the rules :) <3&fluff

C.J.'s body jumped as the Poliwag rushed headfirst into her Pokéball. It shook three times before a satisfying click resounded in the girl's anxious ears. C.J.'s blue eyes briefly shut and a broad smile split across her face. Zulu's tail rattled in excitement as he rhythmically bounced up and down by the riverbank. C.J. reached out to secure the Pokéball to her waist before attempting to pat her bouncy Ekans on his purple head. "We did it, buddy! Man, mom and dad would be so pumped!" Zulu nodded his head in agreement.

Across the river, the Pinsir angrily flailed as it was hit with multiple attacks from several different trained and wild Pokémon. C.J. wasn't sure if her new Poliwag would be able to convince his brothers and sisters to aid the Goldeen that was currently pecking at the giant bug. She winced for the baby Squirtle waddling down to his siblings' barrier as Richard and his Ekans fell from the bridge, causing large ripples throughout the water. She heard Violet's Eevee cry out in pain as the Pinsir thrashed the poor Pokémon violently against the ground. That was confirmation enough that her own partners' safety would be greatly jeopardized if she tried to have them retaliate now.

C.J. desperately racked her brain for a way to help out her friends, but all her eyes could focus on were some small smooth pebbles sparkling in the water below. Without much thought, she grabbed a handful and began hurling them across the river at the Pinsir with all her might. Zulu curled one in his tail and chucked it alongside his trainer, both of them hoping that the stones would be enough of an annoyance to give Mike's Meowth the time it needed to claw Violet's Eevee to safety.

@rocketrobie2I was thinking the same thing, which is why I had C.J. take another route! At least this brought everyone together.
Richard's body responded before his voice as he bounded ahead of C.J. and Zulu, stumbling roughly onto the grassy banks near a clear river. Zulu tugged at C.J.'s ankle with his tail, and she calmly pushed away the scattered tree branches before stepping out into the crisp sunshine. The clean smells of fresh water and cut timber permeated her nostrils, but the sensory moment of happiness was quickly clouded by the events that unfolded before the young trainer. She watched as Richard tumbled down the hill towards Mike, shouting his familiar warnings. Violet, she noticed, was struggling to get across to the battle as well. As the cloud of mist dissipated, C.J. could now see the cause of obstruction. A young Poliwag seemed to be... protecting Violet and her Pokémon? Zulu began to instinctively move towards it, as if understanding the creature's series of distressful chirps. C.J.'s eyebrows rose in shock as Violet's Eevee tackled the Poliwag off the bridge and into the steady river's current below. A strange sensation of panic and empathy raced through C.J., her skin prickling at the sight of the injured Pokémon still crying out as it bobbed in the river below. It seemed Zulu shared his trainer's thought as he darted for the edge of the river.

Zulu didn't look back at C.J. as he slithered ahead of the Poliwag, his eye focused on a small, sturdy boulder just ahead. The snake hitched just enough of his tail around the boulder to anchor himself and stretched the rest of his scaly body into the brisk water. The steady currents rocked his body up and down, but he squeezed his muscles tightly as the Poliwag drew near. Zulu braced for impact as the Poliwag drifted into his outstretched body. With his head now curled gently around the Poliwag's hypnotic chest, Zulu circled the pair back to the safety of the riverbank. His body still wrapped protectively against the Poliwag, Zulu rested his head against the grass. C.J. placed a hand against her heart as she sharply inhaled in relief. Her long legs began a downwards jog towards her partner, but not before being intercepted by a small ball of brown fur. Unable to avoid tripping, she reached her arms forward towards the ground as her knees met the moist grass. She turned her head to see another trainer's Eevee, but this one with a collar and small scar across his face, shaking his fluffy tuft of fur in the aftermath of the collision. She moved into a crouch and looked to Lance apologetically, who she now realized was sliding down the hill towards his Pokémon.

"I'm so sorry, I wasn't paying attention!" She stood now, brushing the grass from her knees. Her head swiveled to check on Zulu, who nodded to her faintly before resting in the soft grass again. Now closer to the other trainers, C.J. could clearly see the rising distress of the situation with the Pinsir across from where she and Lance had just encountered each other. Mike was clearly in trouble, which explained why Violet had been so desperate to get through Poliwag's barrier before. Poliwag. C.J. knew that Zulu was in no condition to confront a Pinsir, especially one this enraged. She nodded to Lance while briefly introducing herself. "I'm C.J. and that's Zulu." She pointed to her Pokémon by the riverbank. "No point in putting anyone else in danger, here come with me." She didn't ask as she closed the distance between the trainers and Zulu. She crouched down and stroked Zulu's head lovingly. "That was very brave of you, Zulu." Her eyes watered, knowing that Zulu's nature didn't usually lead to situations like this, and she addressed the Poliwag. "And very brave of you, Poliwag, to protect my friends back there." C.J. didn't have to think twice as she reached for the sole Pokéball at her belt, placing it cautiously on the ground between Zulu and Poliwag. Zulu nodded in understanding as she said, "We've been saving this for a special Pokémon." Her heart raced as she finally added, "Poliwag, we'd be honored if you'd join our team. Your courage would be the perfect pair to my Zulu's caution." She smiled sweetly and sat on the back of her heels as she waited for both the Poliwag's response and Lance to join her at the riverbank.

@Masterkeun
@pkken I must have been writing at the same time as you! Haha, obviously you've joined the others with the Pinsir... so we'll just say you had a brief run in, and on my next post C.J. will realize you chose to barrel into danger instead of following her to the riverbank :} She can join the group once the Pinsir situation is resolved.
Zulu's tail rattled in success, and his body glowed faintly with a strange aura of light. C.J. ran over and enthusiastically scooped her partner into her arms, twirling their bodies into a wide circle as the leaves below crunched and swept gleefully into the air around them. "I'm SO proud of you!" She squeezed him in close for a small hug before turning at the faint 'click' of Richard's Pokéball. The martial artist's face was still scrunched and furrowed in concentration, as if he was afraid any small break of elation would cause the Caterpie to burst forth from the still ball on the forest floor. C.J. quietly eased over to the man's side and whispered playfully, "You can stop holding your breath now." With the sentiment, she hardily patted Richard between the shoulder blades in congratulations.

Suddenly a loud SNAP pierced through the mostly peaceful sounds of the forest, and Zulu's body tensed below C.J.'s feet. The rushing sounds of a nearby river mixed with faint voices, and C.J. involuntarily leaned her body towards the unfamiliar and unknown. She glanced at Richard, remembering his earlier reprimand at her bounding into danger without any thoughts to their safety, and loosened the tightness of her shoulders. "I think there may be other trainers just a little ways in, should we go investigate?" Her eager eyes betrayed her obedient smile as she rocked back and forth on her heels, waiting for confirmation from Richard. Zulu looked to the other Ekans and shook his head slightly. I don't like where thisss is going. Caterpiesss are one thing, but I doubt we'll be assss lucky up ahead. Besssst to keep our guardssss up.
