@FalloutJack I'd consider those closer to experiments than retrieval operations. Sometimes an SCP is too large to take back to a facility, or is in some cases a location itself, so they take the experiments to the SCP instead.

In the cases where they are trying to capture a creature or safely retrieve an object, or recapture as the case may be, they usually use a taskforce rather than the D-CLASS personnel. Though I'm sure exceptions exist.
Fighting against multiple opponents, even when most of them were only Rookies, was proving to be a frustrating experience for Maildramon. Another ball of light from the Kudamon flew past him and a burst of fire from the now de-digivolved Yukarumon caused some vague discomfort as it heated his armour; the attacks from the Rookies were worthless but distracting and if one struck him at the wrong moment it could still be decisive.

The Falcoman was proving especially troublesome, purposely returning to his weaker form in order to create an obfuscating group of clones in an effort to hide the Leomon. It made no difference for his spear, which had already been launched at the real Leomon before the clones were created and which struck the Lion Digimon directly, but it did make things trickier when all of the Leomon rushed him at once.

As the clones drew close to Maildramon he began to swipe at them with his claws, or tried to bat them away with his large wings, only for them to all disappear as soon as he made contact with them. In the midst of this confusion the real Leomon slipped through his defence and swung his sword in a powerful down stroke that caught Maildramon in the neck. The force of the strike forced Maildramon to bow his head, his feet cracking the surface of the roof as he was pressed down by the harsh blow.

But the sword failed to cut through his armour.

Swinging his head around Maildramon sought to knock the sword away as he pointed his horn directly at Leomon’s chest. “Yes, you charged in so valiantly, as befitting a hero, but I think this reckless action might be the end of you! Lightning Spear!”

Once more electricity gathered at the point of Maildramon’s horn, which was all but touching Leomon’s chest at this point. Before he could launch the attack however, Kudamon’s Blinding Ray struck and turned Maildramon’s vision pure white. “Blasted pests!”

Dazed and blinded Maildramon turned his head at the last second, firing the Lightning Spear not at Leomon but just off to the side instead.

“So the Digidestined have returned. It is just as you said.”

Far from the battle, in a large chamber bathed in shadows, a single humanoid figure stood next to the cowering form of Hagurumon. The two of them were illuminated only by the light coming from the screen in front of them which was currently displaying the on-going battle between Maildramon and the Digidestined from a bird’s eye view.

“Y-yes sir. Maildramon ordered me to report this information to you as soon as possible.”

“And yet he decided to attack them without waiting for our orders. I suppose the fool thought he could defeat them by himself when they were weakened.”

Though the figure spoke calmly, or perhaps coldly, there was an underlying tension to his words; a subtle threat of anger that belied the disapproval he was feeling. Beside him, the Hagurumon whimpered quietly and tried to make himself invisible.

“Well, he might have been successful had those other two not returned.” Turning away from the screen the figure began to pace into the darkness, moving towards the centre of the room. Hagurumon followed him with his eyes, having not been asked to follow he didn’t dare move to follow. “They are almost all gathered in the same place for the first time in over a century. In addition to this, Yukarumon has been revived.” The figure stopped, seemingly at random, at a spot near to the centre of the large expanse. Facing the far end of the room, the figure craned his neck back and looked up.

Hagurumon looked up as well, trying to see what the figure was looking at; at first he saw nothing, but as his eyes adjusted to the darkness he could just make out a faint outline of something massive which completely filled the far end of the huge chamber.

“I think now would be the best time to strike.”

The silhouette shifted ever so slightly at the words and Hagurumon’s eyes widened in fear as he realised that there was another Digimon in the room that he hadn’t noticed. And he felt a dread certainty that he knew who it was.

“Yes.”

A voice as old as the mountains and just as heavy reached his ears; despite how softly spoken it was the word was clearly audible all throughout the chamber. “Carry out the plan. Bring them to their knees.”

Upon hearing the voice and confirming his fears Hagurumon threw himself to the ground and prostrated himself, cowering in terror and awe. The mysterious, humanoid figure placed a hand over his heart and bowed deeply to the hidden figure. “As you wish General.”
Well, I'm not going to be in any hurry to try and write a 4v1 again any time soon. It's difficult to respond to so many events at once.

@bowtiesrcool86 Could you try and limit yourself to one post between my posts. The more things I have to try and include in my replies the harder it gets.
@Stekkmen

Well this is intriguing.

I haven't really looked at SCP for a while but I'm familiar with a few of the more popular SCP's from the first series. I like the idea of playing the role of the hapless D-CLASS personal made to experiment on these objects/creatures and I really like the way this is set up; having a group of hackers observing a constantly rotating cast of expendable test subjects and trying to work out whats going on from the limited information is an interesting addition.

The only thing I think is missing is that as D-CLASS personal we probably wouldn't get to take part in any of the initial retrieval missions, but that makes sense if we're only drawing from existing SCP. And it's not likely we're going to run out of those any time soon.

Can you recommend any good articles from the newer series that I can read to catch up on things?
The first two attempts to open a game menu were failures, but even those failures were interesting. The fact that a system message had appeared meant something in and of itself and let him know he was on the right track. And the fact he had no access meant there was something to access. The quick burst of pain that came with each attempted was worrying though and indicated that he was trying something that he probably shouldn’t.

Nonetheless he had to keep trying after this small amount of progress.

His next two attempts were far more successful, albeit a little underwhelming. The inventory screen showed nothing, which was to be expected since he wasn’t carrying anything; that screen would probably be useless unless you were too lazy to check what was in your pockets, but it proved that some menus could be accessed.

The status menu was similarly devoid of information right now, but possibly it could be used to give a diagnosis if something was wrong? Maybe it would give a list of injuries if you were hurt or let you know if you caught a disease or were poisoned.

In any case, he had discovered something interest. Being bolstered by his success, and already forgetting the pain he experience earlier, Jacob decided to continue. “Open… character screen?” Maybe this would be as lacklustre as the others, but Jacob was hoping to see a full character profile with a list of skills and hopefully an experience bar. If he could prove that experience was actually a thing in this world he would be a little more on board with Mourningstar’s idea.

The result was a little bit more than Jacob expected.

“ARGH!”

A sudden explosion of pain sent his head spinning. Jacob clutched his head and bent double in the air, the fluttering of his wings slowing down as he began to sink towards the ground. His vision blurred and he felt sick to his stomach as images from the moment of his death extending backwards though his entire life to the moment he was born flashed through his mind in an overload of information.

And then he was back in that white expanse. He heard the Demon King’s voice again as he relived the events of one week ago in real time, all leading up to the moment he selected his new species and was thrown headlong into this new, terrifying world.

He came to his senses as the vision, memory, whatever it was ended and he felt himself being shoved aside by the Wisp. Thrown off balance and unable to regain it Jacob began to sink even faster as his wings started to falter; it was only Digbie grabbing his arm and pulling him into the crevice that saved him from a long drop.

It took him a moment to remember where he was or what he was just doing. Between the rush of old memories and the throbbing pain in his head it was hard to focus but after a moment it all began to come back. He stayed there for a while, sitting on his hands and knees and waiting for the pulsing pain in his head to fade even a little bit; it might just be his imagination but it did seem to be getting better slightly. “Open… open status screen.”

You have an extreme migraine.
System:Oberon

Great, as if he didn’t know that already. But at least he was able to prove that the status menu worked the way he expected.

Turning around so that he was sitting normally, Jacob positioned himself so that he could face out of the crevice. He could hear Digbie nearby, though through his blurry vision all he could see of the Goblin was a vague green outline against the dull brown backdrop of the cave wall. The duelling Wisps outside were a little easier to see, two bright points of light whirling around in the air as one tried to fly away and the other chased after it; he had to look away after a moment though, as staring too long at the dancing lights set his already unsettled stomach heaving.

Something needed to be done about this migraine; he couldn’t afford to be this helpless when everything seemed to want to kill them. It was possible a healing spell might work, though the description suggested something like this was beyond its power, but he was completely out of MP to even try and he had used up all of the mana crystals nearby over the past week. Diverting his eyes downward Jacob began to scan the floor of the cave far below, blinking rapidly to try and get his eyes to focus even if it made his head spin even faster.

Jacob hadn’t really explored very far out of his crevice yet and sure enough, near the base of the cavern wall he could make out a small point of light that may just be a small cluster of mana crystals. Shimmying himself over to the edge of the crevice Jacob carefully moved out into the open air and let himself fall, using his wings to slow his descent to a safe speed. He still hit the ground with a thump, landing hard on his knees and skinning them. However, he had managed to land right next to the mana crystals he had seen from above. Reaching out Jacob snapped off a piece of the cluster, squeezing it in his hand until it crumbled and he absorbed its energy.

You have used a Mana Crystal. MP is fully restored.
System:Oberon

With his mana restored he already began to feel a little better and now he could try and do something about this pain. Jacob placed his hands on either side of his head and cast Minor Heal, his hands glowing briefly with the magical energy which was then dispersed as it was released into his body. As expected it did nothing to alleviate the pain or the nausea he was feeling, the only change being the slight stinging pain in his knees disappearing as the abrasions were healed.

Undeterred Jacob tried again, this time taking it slower and trying to focus the healing energies to go where he wanted it to. It wasn’t hard to focus on the pain when it was the only thing he could feel; hopefully all it required in order to direct the healing spell to fix a specific problem was willpower as that was all he could really muster at the moment. Jacob burned through the rest of his mana with no success.

Come on, this migraine was basically a status condition right? It was like he was inflicted with confusion or something. Surely if he could heal injuries he could cure status effects right? He was sure from its description that the healing spell worked by speeding up the body’s natural healing process; it didn’t actually heal anything itself, that was why it didn’t work on tumours and just made them grow faster instead. Couldn’t he use it to make this migraine burn itself out faster or something?

Well, if he could he had a stack of mana crystals and hopefully enough time to figure it out.

Rather than simply tearing the gun from the mystery man’s hand as intended Alina found herself holding the front half of the revolver in between her teeth. This was no mean feat as usually it would be impossible for her mutated appendage to be able to bite through metal; either the gun was poorly made or she still held more strength left over than she thought from her earlier meal.

In any case, though surprised she was never one to pass up a free meal. Alina swiftly took the entire piece of revolver into her second mouth and closed it with a snap, the metal disappearing as soon as her teeth met.

Pulling her appendage back into her body the one-eyed villain gave the masked hero a wide grin as he raged about his destroyed weapon. She wasn’t able to tell through his helmet, but she wondered what kind of expression he was making right now? Angry? Shocked? Afraid? She would bet it was amusing, whatever it was. “Oops. Guess I don’t know my own strength. Buuuuuut, I think you got ripped off if it breaks that easily.”

As the hero charged at her, holding the young girl who had come to her aid in front of him as a shield, she could only smile wider. These heroes were so amusing in the way they thought; they always, even the dark and mysterious ones with trench coats and guns, thought that their enemy would react the same way they would when faced with something. That they would be scared by threats of violence, or hesitate if an innocent life was put at risk.

So what if you have a shield little hero? You said it yourself, I eat people. Do you think I’ll think twice because she helped me? I’ll cut straight through her to get to you and then I’ll make sure you lose more than just a gun for the all the trouble you’ve caused me.

“You silly boy. Don’t you know hostages only work against heroes?” the smile on Alina’s face bared all of her sharp teeth and the look in her eye didn’t at all match the cutesy little voice she was putting on. Breaking into a run she charged forward to meet the hero and his prisoner only to stop short and throw a side kick at Riko’s ribs, pivoting on one leg as she put enough force into the hit to hopefully send the young girl flying out of the heroes grasp.

“Excuse me!”

Cocky? I like it.

I gave him the personality I would expect from someone who paints their mech red with gold trim.
Red Imperial

The welcome message he received upon arriving on The Grid was both more and less than what Ren had expected. On the one hand, he hadn’t really anticipated any kind of formal welcome; he didn’t think whatever organisation passed as authority on this backwater planet cared enough about a new batch of Hunters enough to provide one. But on the other hand, if a welcome was to be given couldn’t they put a little more effort into it than a simple message? Roll out the red carpet or something; they were in the presence of the next legendary Hunter after all.

He supposed when Hunter’s died here and frequently as they did the locals just found it easier not to bother getting to know anyone until they’d proven they were going to stick around for a while. Well, whatever. They’d come to recognise his greatness soon enough; all he had to do was kill a few exotic beasts, bring home a few trophies and soon his fame would grow.

Speaking of which, what unlucky monstrosity was going to be his first target?

Sitting in the cockpit of his Red Imperial, Ren started scrolling through the available missions on his on-board display. It didn’t take long unfortunately, only two missions were available at the moment and with the amount of Hunter’s crawling around that meant he’d have competition.

Judging by the descriptions it seemed like the Mastodon was the perfect choice for him; taking out a monster that all of the veteran Hunters had given up on would surely earn him a reputation. Unfortunately, judging by the chatter over the radio it seemed like he wasn’t the only one to have that idea, meaning the hunting grounds for that creature were going to be too crowded to be worth his time.

So that left The Walking Island; it certainly looked impressive and seemed to be racking up a not inconsiderable body count itself recently. Downing something like that might not be as noteworthy as taking down a minor legend like the Mastodon but it was a good first step nonetheless; maybe he could ask them to make a plaque out of the wood or something as a reward.

With that decided Ren marked his name and mech against the mission and marked the last known location of the target on his navigator. As he began the series of pre-flight checks that would need to be completed before he could take off, he casually opened his comms to the Hunter channel and spoke into the public feed.

“This is Ren Hawke, pilot of the Red Imperial. I’m going after The Walking Island; if anyone wants to join me they’re welcome to, just so long as they don’t slow me down or get in the way.”
Yeah, if everybody is both their Meister and their weapon, then the weapons aren't stuck being bored. Since weapons don't exactly do much once they've transformed.

The bonds you make between meister and weapon are pretty essential to me.

These are both valid points. Personally I'd go with each player controlling both their own Meister/Weapon pair; you'd still be able to write the bond between the two characters yourself, though I can see how this wouldn't be as fun as working with someone else, and it eliminates the risk of someone dropping out and leaving the other person without a partner. Which I think is way more important.

In either case, I think making it a rule that each person has to write both a Meister and a Weapon would be good. Even if we decide to have people partner their characters with other people, it guarantees that we'll have an equal number of Weapons and Meisters.
“You’re both from Earth as well?” Jacob caught up with the Wisp after it had crashed into the Slime, though luckily was far back enough to avoid the cascading wave of fluids that it expelled on death. He fluttered down until he landed on the floor of the crevice, standing between the flying Wisp and the Goblin. “That’s amazing. I guess that means we’re all in the same boat.”

So he really wasn’t the only person who had been brought here; the Demon King had summoned at least two other people, and likely many more than that, to this world. And from the sounds of it they had received from the same speech that he did in that empty white void, head to the Demon King’s castle, and the same set of choices as well judging by their appearances.

So he wasn’t the only one. He’d kind of expected to be the only one. Though he still wasn’t convinced this whole situation was real, the way the Demon King sold it, it sounded like a one person kind of deal; a nobody dies in one world and is given a second chance at greatness in a world straight out of a fantasy novel or anime. He was pretty sure he remembered the phrase ‘chosen one’ being thrown around in there. Typical nerd fantasy and typically a solo venture, at least until the hero starts making friends with the locals anyway, then the motley crew could be assembled.

What did this mean then? Why did the Demon King summon all of them here? Or to be more precise, why summon more than one person and for that matter why place them all so close together at the start? It couldn’t just be coincidence that they all met each other like this. Did he intend for them to all work together?

A sudden curse snapped Jacob out of his reverie and he realised that the Wisp had been talking this whole time and he had missed all but the last part of it. “Wait, what was that? You want us to clear out this cave?” That seemed like a terrible idea for some reason, probably starting with the fact that the three of them had barely just managed to defeat one Slime and leading up to the fact that trying to approach this situation like it was a video game seemed like an easy way to get themselves killed.

“We can’t just go around killing everything; these aren’t just monsters from a video game, they’re living creatures... even if one did just try to eat me. I mean, what if there are more people like us here? For that matter, how do you even know experience works like that here? I know we keep getting these notifications but that’s not proof that this world works exactly like the games back home.”

Well, actually, it kind of was. But it wasn’t the kind of conclusive proof that would make Jacob comfortable with treating a bunch of living creatures as walking piles of experience. Although, it did give him kind of a dumb idea that he wanted to try out.

“Ok, can you guys just bear with me while I try something stupid? Urm, open menu… open start menu. Open… inventory?” Jacob felt like a fool, standing there saying these things like game commands trying to open some imaginary video game style status screen just based off of the notifications he had been seeing so far. “Open status menu? Open… character screen?” If on the off chance if did work however, it could provide a huge amount of useful information.
