Spider Sense
Queen of the Web: The ability to communicate with and control spiders as if she has an empathic and psychic connection with them. It's weird, but surprisingly comes in handy. She can't control an army of spiders yet, but she's connected to up to ten arachnids at once. But her primary connection is with
a metallic blue jumping spider that she dubbed Danny after her late brother.
Biography The Davis family always knew they wanted to have children together. Unfortunately, fate was not on their side. They tried many times to have a child, but would always either fail to conceive, or miscarry. Finally, after many attempts and a difficult pregnancy, the Davis family were finally blessed with twins! They were overjoyed, and cherished their miracle babies.
Caty and her twin brother Danny were two peas in an interesting pod. It had seemed the universe had blessed their parents with extraordinary gifts. It was all too fitting that they were called miracle babies. Early on in their childhood it was clear that the two were exceptionally bright. When they weren't playing with dolls, stuffed animals and any other toys they had they were often found experimenting with the world around them. They had an innate curiosity about them. This was especially so when it came to Caty. Growing up she always knew there was something different about her. She could understand things quickly and she always thirsted for more knowledge. Though if you were on the outside looking in you wouldn't have been able to tell.
Ever since she was young Caty had always been the more energetic and outgoing of the duo. She seemed to outshine her slightly younger brother but she never looked at it that way. To her Danny was the one that shined even brighter than her. He could just never see it for himself. Because of this Danny grew into the stereotypical role of the shy and awkward nerd while Caty grew into the world of the All American popular girl who also happened to be smart. She never hid her intelligence but she also didn't flaunt it. Instead of joining any of the science clubs she joined the Cheerleading team her Freshman year and took gymnastics and boxing on the side outside of school.
When they were in High School most students knew not to mess with Danny or his sister would come down and rain hell on the offenders. She did this as a way to teach Danny how to stand up for himself because she wouldn't always be there to protect him. Even if she wanted to. There were times when she wasn't around and his most dedicated bullies would terrorize him. Sometimes she would be there to watch and let it happen. Then afterwards she'd find them and teach them a lesson they wouldn't soon forget.
By the time they were Seniors Caty was the Captain of the Cheerleaders and was a shoe-in for both Homecoming and Prom Queen. If she were to be honest she didn't care at all about either, but everyone else around her seemed to so she entertained it for their sake. When she finished senior year she graduated as Valedictorian with a 5.0 GPA due to all of the AP Classes she took throughout the four years. This coupled with her accomplishment of nearly breaking the scales on her SAT and ACT opened many doors for her after graduation. She received scholarships, full and partial from every school she applied to and even ones she didn't apply to. When Danny also got into Columbia the two decided that was going to be their destination in the Fall. There she would double major in Biochemistry and Computer Science with a minor in Physics.
Unfortunately their last semester of high school wouldn't go exactly as they had expected and caused a domino effect that changed the lives of the Davis twins for good. Caty decided to re-ignite her passion in science by interning at the New York Hall of Science since it was close to him and with her already hectic schedule she needed something that wouldn't make things too hard on her. She would've just joined one of the clubs at school, but Danny had already made that his space and she wasn't one to interfere. She enjoyed her internship. There was always some company coming in to present their latest research and she even networked with a few companies she had an interest in. One day a company came in doing a demonstration of safe handling of nuclear laboratory waste material. No one knew at the time, but a spider got caught in one of their radiation tests and crawled slowly to its death. Before it passed on it bit Caty while she was cleaning up after the exhibit. At first she didn't feel any different. It wasn't until the next day that she realized just how much her world had changed.
She had gained the abilities of a spider. She was just like that hero Spider-Man who disappeared in the Snap. Was this fate? As one spider-themed hero was gone, another one was about to be born? She honestly wasn't too sure. This just seemed like a lot and she didn't think it wise to jump into the life of a hero before she had a full understanding of her powers. She shared her newfound gifts with her brother and with his help she started training. Since neither of them really had to take classes their final semester she often convinced him to skip so that they could either train or just goof off together. It was something she felt like they both needed. But still she had no real aspirations for being a hero. That changed the night of what would've been their prom. After being rejected by his crush Danny had no interest in going and so Caty decided to skip it with him. They decided instead to stroll around the city for the night and take in the beauty of it all. With all of their extracurricular and side activities they rarely had the time to really enjoy New York. The two were walking through Central Park when a robber cut through it after hitting up a nearby bodega. Caty kept getting this weird sensation that something was off and that was when Danny was bumped into and sent to the ground. Ignoring his need for escape the robber decided one last score wouldn't hurt him.
For the first time in her life Caty was petrified. In that moment it didn't matter that she had powers or even knew how to hold herself in a fight. In the moment her fear and anxiety were being amplified by her newfound ability to sense danger. Danny noticed this after he got himself to his feet and decided it was his time to protect his sister. He didn't want her exposing her powers here and all they had to do was give the guy all that they had. Danny tried to get the man to calm down while reaching into his pocket, but in his frantic state the robber took Danny's quick movement as a threat and fired twice before running off. This broke Caty out of her frozen state and she rushed to her brother's side waiting with him until the ambulance came, but by then it was already too late. Her brother was dead and it was her fault.
From that day forward she had a no resolve. She was going to step up and into the role bestowed upon her. She was going to become a hero and do all that she can to make sure no one else has to go through what she went through. It's a tall order, but one that she's been working towards with unrelenting motivation for the past few years.
