Breath was knocked out of Niah when Atlas shoved her grabbing the Master Bolt. Her vision blurred a bit, but she stood back up. She adjusted her grip on her sword. Atlas attacked Jason. She knew he was down, probably forever. Niah had grown fond of him over the last few days. She wouldn't cry for him, but as the Greeks had gone he had been alright. Anger boiled within her.

She drove forward pressing an attack on Atlas. With Persephone and Terminus helping they could drive him back she knew it. He parried her attack. The Cyclops had become completely secondary to Niah. She was determined to drive the Titan back into his place. Her next attack forced him to take a step back. Close to the two young girls who held the sky up. She didn't allow her attention to waiver, just drove another attack into Atlas. He took another step. It was incremental, but it was something. One more step was one more step closer.

Andy trembled under the weight. Sweat prickled the back of her neck but she persevered. Jason going down caused her to wince. She knew a dead body when she saw one. She had seen too many of them for her age. Andy closed her eyes against it.

She held out her fingers, questing to find Stella's. To gain and give comfort and support. They both needed strength to keep this up. It would kill them if they didn't keep their will strong.

Chocolate knew that the fight was going badly. Niah was distracted, as were both the gods. The two children were pinned under the sky, literally. Jason was down, and Mary was being beaten up alone by the Cyclops. He darted in trying to bite the heels of the Cyclops but he couldn't get a good bite.

Ed had been looking at Mads. She was the last thing he saw. But she hadn't been the only thing in the room he had cared about. He had to protect her though. He knew why now.

His lungs ached. He couldn't breathe. Ed knows this sensation. He had once almost drowned when he was a kid. His twin sister had saved his life. Helplessness. Pain. Everything he did to try to escape the suffering just made it worse.

He held the image of Mads' face just before his death trying to keep his sanity about him. It took him a while, through the building agony to realize the person looking down on him had her face. Something was off. His daughter had a soul, she was part human, but this being looking at him was not part human. She was fully his daughter, fully demon.

Anger started to build and bury everything else. His family had held him back. He knew that. He could have ended fights faster. He could have saved lives if he had been allowed to bring people back from the dead. His sister could have saved the world. Those laws had made all of that impossible. Even now the laws restrict him. He tried to reach for his magic to end his suffering but it was gone. The magic was outside his reach.

This was on purpose.

His life started to fade away. They say when you die your life flashes before your eyes. This may have been true, but as images of people came to him he knew who they were. He knew their names. Then the names were gone. The relationship was gone. He tried to hold on, but the more he tried the faster it flowed away.

He was empty. Only pain and anger echoed through him.

Who was he?

That didn't matter, because she was still there.

Andy smiled as Zari rambled about her previous experience in the Framework. "Yeah, try to keep it realistic. During the real Contest, you probably won't have the chance to do that." She waved at Mary Sue and got into her Framework outfit. Andy wasn't super comfortable with going into this thing. But it was reassuring to know Zari was in there with her. If something went wrong Zari could probably fix it.

"See you inside." She smiled. A thought crossed her mind. Would her vampire touch work in here? If not that could mean she could hug people without fear of draining them. She'd have to keep it in mind, maybe give it a small quick test. She didn't like using the vampire touch, but it had gotten harder to avoid it. When she ignored it for too long it felt like the hunger took over her.

Closing herself into the chamber she let the system take over and she opened her eyes to the arena.

Mandy nodded, smiled at the receptionist, and sat down to wait. She watched the video wondering if there was information she was missing from the sound. This was concerning no matter what though. She thought back to the BLM movement and knew the town was about to get crazy. Driving out of town and going to campus would be nice, but also if her dad was right and this was related to the sickness going around she didn't want to be away from her parents.

COVID had hit New York hard. She shuttered at some of the memories of the worst months. Thankful for the kitten in her arms she could pet and find comfort with. She texted her dad back, 'I'll email the school. They just sent out a blast that classes would still meet, but this might change that.'

She then started an email attaching the link to the article and asking if the school had any information from the CDC if this was related or if this was just some shitty cop behavior. After sending that off she tried the CDC website again hoping that the traffic to it had died down and she could access the page now.

Andy was tired. She had put in a lot of extra hours to try to keep up with homework and practice for the Contest. She still felt underprepared for both. Homework came with a lot of backlog because of large gaps in her education. Math was hard because she had to go back and get the basics of other maths to get a grasp on what she was currently working on. Also, reading was a nightmare. It felt like a fight on its own. How did anyone get any sort of enjoyment out of reading? It was miserable.

She, however, did not want to let down her team. Andy figured that once she got in the ring, so to speak, she'd be competitive about the whole thing. It also was training. She needed to know how to fight to protect the world from her mother. Also, April seemed to have placed a wild amount of her self-worth into the Contest. So, Andy went to the gym taking a quiet route. Hoping to not get caught out of her room. If she did she had a lie planned. She had been studying late and needed to stretch her legs and hadn't realized how late it was. It'd suck to get caught and have to go back to her room, but she wasn't about to get everyone in trouble.

There were a few others already in the gym. She nodded to Leah. The two hadn't gotten to hang out much. She'd have to try again soon. Zari wasn't there yet, but hopefully, she would be soon.

It didn't take much for Niah to decide to pick up the master bolt. Andy was running to help Stella, that would be the only other person Niah thought should have the Bolt. She held it in what would normally be her shield arm, and with a nod to Terminus as a thank you for taking the brunt of the attack she moved to stab Atlas again. With both gods fighting him Atlas was too distracted and Niah was able to get another jab in.

"Except I'm Roman." She snapped at Atlas. That wasn't the full truth. Her mother could have gone either way, but the Greeks didn't have a place for her in their camp so it hadn't been an option. She was thankful she had gone with the Romans too. She took another jab at Atlas hitting him again. Her third jab missed as Atlas dodged. But that was fine with Niah. She could be a distraction for someone else. Dragging him off to his place.

"This is your punishment. The weight of the sky is what you must carry." She told him.

Andy looked around the battlefield. She could join the fight with the older kids, but she saw that when Mary was hit it knocked Stella off her balance. The Master Bolt had fallen to the ground, and for a moment she was torn. What should she do? Stella was keeping her feet under her, but it was a struggle. She ran over to her.

Andy slid in next to Stella taking some of the weight of the sky onto her shoulders. "Just because the prophecy said one of you had to take it, that doesn't mean you have to do it alone." She said trying to sound reassuring. Andy didn't know Stella very well, but she didn't think anyone who wasn't a God or Titan should have the weight of the sky on them alone.

Mandy enjoyed the feel of a cat purring in her arms. She couldn't hear it, but the vibrations against her arm felt good. She scratched the cat under the chin as the scan was done. No chip. She smiled. Should she keep the little one? Her parents would probably entertain her until she drove off to school. They had always let her have whatever pet had wandered into her life. She did her best to rehome them.

She wrote down, 'I'll foster him until we can get him adopted. Can you run a standard test panel on him, give him de-wormer and kitten shots?' She could run the panel if she waited till she got to school, and do all the other follow-up stuff. But the kitten should get the de-wormer right away and that meant she might as well get everything else run.

Ed wished he had been able to help in some other way. Protecting the hanger was something he could do. Keeping it together was not easy. His hands were shaking. He had to focus on it.

Ed controlled his breathing. Focusing on the shield. Shutting out what the others were saying. This would probably be the last line between the empty air of space. His stomach twisted at the thought. The memory of Iris flashed through his mind. Ed quickly shoved it away.

"Okay, see you later. Let me know if you need help." Andy said smiling as Zari left. Zari was determined to do things her own way and wouldn't ask for help normally. Andy hoped that she was getting better at that since coming back to her own time.

"Thank you." She said to Mary Sue as she helped set up the movie. She had wanted to cuddle with Zari. She didn't dare risk touching Mary Sue. That would be bad. "I'm going to change into PJs. If you want to run to your room and get into comfy clothes you can too real quick."

Niah scowled. "It's your job!" She drew her sword and was about to attack Atlas, but a group of cyclops got in her way. She was thrown but thankful she was able to land on her feet. Her powers had never been fighting powers. Yeah, she could fiddle with emotion, and that sometimes worked to get someone mad enough to make a mistake or to make them not care about the fight. But the power she considered her real power had nothing to do with battle. Everything in battle was pure training. Without a group of Romans though there were none of the tactics she would want to use. And her group had been on a train there hadn't been any time to work through tactics. She'd just have to do this the Greek way -total chaos.

Niah was mad. Today had been a lot. And she had lost in that fight against the stupid werewolves. Sure she had taken out several after but Persephone had to save her. She was not going to let that mess up this fight though. She would be practical, she would be cool. She ignored all the cyclopses and made her way back over to Atlas. He would suffer. He would take the sky back. She jabbed at him, almost hitting him but he blocked her at the last moment. She used his movement against him and moved just slightly getting in another attack under his guard. She had wounded him. She grinned, feral almost. And attacked again. Atlas must have been surprised or confused that she had hurt him that he wasn't fast enough and she cut him again.

Andy felt tingly. The lighting that had hit her had hurt. She wished she had been ready for that, she could have redirected it. Andy did reach out and try to collect some of the residual power, but it slipped through her metaphorical fingers. She watched as Stella went over and took up the weight of the sky. She blinked a bit surprised that she would. Andy wouldn't have thought to do that either. How would they get Atlas to take it back?

She frowned and tried to pull the lighting again. Sparks flickered off her hands but nothing more. She hated that. Hated that she wasn't doing anything. She had wanted to hit all the damn Cyclops and Atlas. But she might have spent too much energy in the fight at the trailhead. She was tired, but she reached one more time pulling and found it she focused her attention on one of the cyclops near her. Hitting it and killing it. The dust fluttered to the ground.
