Fritz Ulrich

What do you look like?

Before coming to Grayscale Fritz was 2.11 meters and weighed 74 kilograms. He was severely underweight, and it showed in his hollow cheeks and thin limbs. His left eye was bright blue, and his right eye was golden brown. He had curly brown hair that reached his waist. He tended to wear it in a complicated halo looking braid to keep it out of the way. In Grayscale he appears as a porcelain doll with spiderweb cracks on his left cheek. His right leg has been glued incorrectly. There are pieces actually missing so a person can see that he is hollow. While his body is in disrepair his knee length dress and matching headband are in perfect condition. So are his ballet flats with laces that go up to his midthigh. His hair has been styled into curly ringlets that cascade down his back.

What do you remember?

Negative Memory

• Fritz was born to a powerful businessman, Richard, and his politically savvy wife, Elizabeth. It had not been a marriage of love, but of cold respect. As such they only came together present a united front for the public and to clinically produce children. That resulted in three children; Sarah the oldest, Fritz the middle child, and Marta the youngest. There were Sarah was older than Fritz by 27 months while he was older than Marta by 28 months. To the surprise of many who knew her Elizabeth took to her daughters quickly. Sarah and Marta were practically spoiled and given the best education money could buy. She rarely acknowledged Fritz and Richard often forgot that he had children at all. The loneliness of being ignored ate him especially when it was discovered that both his sisters were gifted musically and in art. Fritz had no such talents and was somewhat average. After Marta’s fifth birthday party, which was extravagant and filled with pinks and frills and all things “girly,” Fritz came to a conclusion. His mother loved his sisters because they were girls and ignored him because he was a boy. Maybe if he could turn himself into a girl, she would realize he existed. He stole one of Sarah’s dresses and did his best to make it fit. He got no reactions, bad or good. He was not discouraged. He just wasn’t girly enough. Over the years his mother’s statement such as “Maybe if you were more like Sarah,” and “Why can’t you be like Marta,” only encouraged him to learn how to be the perfect girl. He spent years growing out his hair and learning how to do his hair and makeup. When he hit puberty, Fritz freaked out. How was he supposed to be a girl, to one day impress his mother with hair where it didn’t belong and with manly features. He added waxing and shaving to his lists of self-taught skills. He also became severely anorexic so he could still fit into his sisters’ dresses. He was seventeen when his father figured out who was stealing his daughters’ clothes. His rage at having a “sissy son” was cold, harsh, and unrelenting. Dismayed that being a girl had finally gotten a negative reaction instead of the positive one he had been hoping for and unable to suddenly be the manly man that his father wanted, Fritz jumped of a building. He didn’t expect to open his eyes in the Grayscale World.

Positive Memory

• Despite never being able to please his parents Fritz did enjoy learning how to look pretty. Over the years dressing as a girl became less about his mother and more about the fact that he honestly enjoyed how it made him feel. He enjoyed learning to do makeup, nails, and hair. One of his passions was fashion design and he had vague hopes of one day designing dresses for celebrities on the red carpet or at least getting to do their makeup. While at school he had to wear a male uniform, but as long as his hair was up that was fine. He had a gaggle of giggly girlfriends, or rather friends that were girls, that loved it when he did their hair and makeup just for fun or for formal events. Fritz took great pride in helping them look their best and making them feel confident. His happiness memories are when he wound up in an Ulta or Sephora or a similar store with practically no limits. He also enjoyed designing dresses and stitching them together. His favorite class was home economics even though he was a terrible baker. Whenever he was sure he would not be caught Fritz would eavesdrop on his sisters’ music lessons and practice. In is totally not bias opinion the two best sounds in the whole wide world are Sarah on her piano and Marta on her violin. HE could listen to them play all day long. Marta was part of his gaggle of girls. She loved her brother and encouraged his passions even if he wouldn’t tell her why he wanted to borrow his dresses. To be honest he wore them more than she did. She just wished she could get him to eat more and he knew that.

You brought something with you, what is it?

A brand new tube of Urban Decay’s Vice Mega Matte lipstick in shade 714. It is easily his favorite shade of bright red.

If you had one wish, what would it be?

Fritz just wishes his parents would see him without comparing him to his sisters just once.

Who was the most important person in your life?

Elizabeth Ulrich. Her apathy and judgement of her son was what lead him to both striving for a perfection he would never reach and his passion.

If you could change something about yourself, what would it be?

Fritz isn’t sure when calorie counting became just not eating, but if he could go back and fix that he would do it in a heartbeat; if only so Marta didn’t have to worry.

The Tree of Astra (LadyAnnaLee and Blackfridayrule)

Darin pulled loose one of the ones that looked ripe according to what Ridahne told her and drop it down. Then she undid the belt tying her to the tree and was about to climb down when she felt a gust of wind play with her hair. With a grin on her face Darin let go of the tree to jump down. A stronger gust of wind dropped her to the ground, so she landed gently. For a moment her clumsiness returned and got the best of her and her landing was less than graceful as she bounced from foot to foot. Soon enough she regained her balance. She laughed as she found her footing. She was in too a good a mood to let too much get the better of her.

Her smile widened as Ajoran held out her circlet, “Thank you!” She placed it back on her head only for it to tilt to the left, “I would have hated to lose this.” She turned to Ridahne as her sister handed her half the coconut, “Let’s see what this taste like.”

She took a drink of the liquid before she could lose it. Darin thought it was good. It was better than coffee. That was for sure. She could see why coconut would be so important in a desert near a body of salt water. The juice inside was more like water and could be used to keep hydrated. That had to be important. Darin practically guzzled the liquid. She hadn’t realized how thirsty she was until she started. Swimming in the ocean and all the walking would do that to a person. Once she was done, she considered the rest of the fruit. If she understood the stories Ridahne had told her the white part was edible. With a little bit of effort, she cracked her half of the sphere, so she had a way to scape at the fruit with her teeth. It tasted the same way the water did but she didn’t get much with her teeth. This was going to take a while. Luckily she thought she could do it while walking.

She considered the piece of coconut she was working on as she asked Ridahne, “What now? I want to learn all that I can about Tasen and Azurei.” She shrugged, “Basically the same thing that we have been doing, but now we appear to have an audience.” She scraped her teeth over her treat before pulling out and looking at it, “I like this. I like this a lot.” She smiled at Ridahne, “I’m glad I did this.” Her smile became soft as she looked over towards The Sea, “Today has been a good day. It’s been a long time since I’ve had a day like this.”

That was the truth. They were practically always moving. Even when they got to villages, they only spent time to learn about people’s lives while resupplying. This was sort of the same thing. Darin was learning about Tasen, but she was also having fun. Today it didn’t feel like such a chore. Maybe it was because she didn’t need to worry about keeping secrets. There was one less thing to stress about. She could do without the stares, but at least Ridahne and Ajoran were keeping them away. She would take what she could. Besides the coconut tasted really good. That was certainly helping her good mood.
