Bio

Not born in a log cabin, I came into the RPing venture around 2009 and quickly joined about twenty roleplays more than I should have at the time. I've been around the internet in that time span, participated in and run RPs on multiple forums, and brushed shoulders with a wide variety of players and characters. Getting to work with new people has always been part of the allure of the experience.

My interests in RPing are pretty diverse, and not genre-specific; if there's room at the table and I can think of a dish to serve, I'll cook something up for just about any meal. If you know what I mean.

Le poke? Is anyone out there?
The tournament will start and you can just post a round or two, getting to show off a little or whatever. These fighters will not be controlled by me as they are not villains to vanquish. You can either barrel through or actually have an interesting fight. Later I'll randomly pair characters up to duke it out and you'll need to decide before hand who is going to win so we don't spend too long on the tournament. Once that is over the mission commences and we head for space.

I was actually thinking, rather than predetermining the player vs. player battles, maybe we could limit each one to a number of posts (maybe like everyone gets ten posts of battle) after which everyone votes on who should win. Then the winner can have their character make their move for the win. Would that be cool with you? I feel like that might be a more authentic approach.

I'd also like to ask: will the rest of us be allowed to create antagonist characters down the road?
"Well then... that... settles that." The wolfman escorted away by the proving grounds 'guardians' and the demon departed from the scene of her own accord, the conflict into which Sharong had interjected came to quick end. For her part, Sharong stayed levitated in the air for a short while longer, mulling over things. "It seems like the outside world is more ruffian than I imagined."

"Attention attention, to all of those in the Proving Grounds. All combat will be suspended as a tournament is organized. This tournament is of vital importance, hence the need to shut down all other fighting and will take first priority. It has come to the Earth Defense Force's attention that an unknown threat is terrorizing worlds and it is quite possible Earth may be a target as well."

"Hmmmm?" Sharong peered around the massive stadium at the PA's voice thundering over the ruckus of all the fighting. The matter of the announcement was intriguing to her in the highest. She had never been in a tournament before; such means of practice were not common among her people... not at her age anyways. This must be what the elders have spoken of. It will be my rite of passage.

"The Force needs a task force to locate and identify the threat. This tournament is to determine who is most worthy to fight the threat and relay information back to Earth. Strong fighters are needed and we could think of no better location to find those capable to stopping this threat. Sign up for the tournament and help protect Earth!"

"And certainly this Defense Force will need all of the help it can get." Sharong's feet landed upon firm ground. She needed no further direction. Already in the stadium, she followed the mass of warriors flocking towards the registration area. The sheer mass of contestants was sure to be a great challenge for her to surmount. "I should really see what I'm up against."

Despite that most of them weren't putting out so much energy, Sharong's third eye clearly saw the powers that she was to face. The masses at large weren't much on their own; in fact most of them were quite insignificant when she considered her own strength and prowess. Then, after dozens of fights against even people half her strength, a battle against an even match could end up a tall order.

"Oh. Him." Amid the gathering masses, Sharong clearly made out the familiar face of the wolfman from the ring earlier. She nodded to herself, making a mental note. That one needs to learn piety.
I'll be in. I expect to get to the throwdowns in the next week.
Wow. Where are all the people? I was hoping to give other people a chance to get their foot in the door, but I guess that didn't work out as planned. Guess I'll get to it; most likely posting tomorrow.
So tournaments. Final decision ladies and gentlemen?

I don't mind some.crossing over, and it would still be up to the discretion of the participants. So you aren't forced to HAVE to wager anything if you don't wanna.

If we do go with wagering points for tournaments, we'll have to be sure to set a minimum on how many points people can bring in. Seems like the least that should be wagered for tournaments is fifty points, to keep the gain worth the pain.

Would our standard be single-elimination for tournaments?

Well, I can't say I'd ever wager anything personal to my character outside of a continuum. Whether I'd do it in a rank battle would depend on what manner of continuum we'd end up with.
Except your horse. and your runes :p

Just wanna make sure everything is straight before I take this to Mahz

So if you guys could decide.

Are we agreed on

100 - win
25 - loss
50 draw

And what's the ruling on sanctioned tournaments? I'm a fan of wagered points fROM everyone, and doled out to the top three.

That's pretty much all we need to decide for as it comes to the rankings. The rest don't need Mahz approval o to speak, as at can handle that ourselves.

I would also like to add a provision for wagered items. Winner should get the ability to actually use the item, perhaps not all abilities associated with the original user but enough so they aren't trying to wield a virtually useless weapon to them.

On the matter of points for tournaments, I'm in agreement with Melon's(?) suggestion. From what I get it would be raising the winning point values up by 100 each round.

I mean, I see tournaments as being opportunities hit it big on points.

As for wagering items, I'm not sure. I feel like that would involve making these ranking battles part of a/the PW, which I'm not particularly fond of doing (merging the two ideas in that sense).
<Snipped quote by Wayward>

Eh? The 100 x people fought is the bonus, I'm an advocate for still receiving 100 points for every fight you win within the tournament.

(Simple explanation)
1st round won, 100
2nd round won, 200
3rd round won, 300

Beat three people +300

Total points from tournament, 600.

Ah. I musunderstood you it. Makes more sense then.

This would also mean that the one-and-dones will get 0. I suppose I can live with that. Though that would depend on the style of tournament.

Or would losers still get the 25?
I think getting a total bonus of 100 X however many people you defeated is the best way to regulate it. It makes it more simple as a gauge around the board, remember that there are a lot of tourneys that spring up and people choosing their own values for the victory could skew the leaderboards. Where-as no one can complain that whatever the circumstances beating multiple people in a row deserves an added bonus, and it will regulate itself by providing more of a bonus in individual tournaments based on how many people you yourself faced and defeated.

And ultimately, someone who wins a tournament (with the average number of people you have to beat to obtain victory usually falling around 3-4) probably deserves 300-400 points outright, that will set them above the rest, but they would still be reachable within double that many individual victories (which are easier to obtain after all, not requiring the win streak.)

That doesn't sound quite like a bonus though; It's basically just getting the same 100 points per battle, except that a tournament is a bit more taxing to get to that score. Maybe making the final round worth the double points?

So Round 1 = +100
Round 2 = +100
Final Round (ASsumed 8-man tournament) = +200
A tournament sounds like fun. Hopefully that gets the rest of our cast interested.
