"Well as far as brains go, I've got the lion's share. But when it comes to brute strength, I'm afraid I'm at the shallow end of the gene pool." - Who?

"Yeah, let's do that...

Joey couldn't help but pause as he noticed Olivia's seemingly downtrodden demeanor. She was likely torn up inside; she wanted to find her friend but not at the expense of others.

He glanced in the direction of the smells origin. Unfortunately, he couldn't for the life of him go any further than he already had. No amount of sympathy or pleading would get him to investigate whatever the hell that was. Inexperienced civilians shouldn't have been trying to do the police's job anyway. It wasn't in their place. Nevertheless they would try; he could almost bet they would be back here in a few days. He just wasn't sure if anyone was going to like what they found if the worst case scenario, or the "likely" scenario in his eyes, came to pass.

Joey sighed. "Your the boss Liv, what do you want to do?"
@Cyclone@Slime It's a collection of stories, most of them referencing one another, and the extended story of the narrator which is told in the intermissions. I'm probably not going to polish it or even look at it again for a while, but part of the reason I'm such a slow writer is because I tend to edit extensively as I go, so it shouldn't be too bad.

I'll probably end up putting it into different documents according to which stories are linked, which ones are just chapters in the same novel, which ones can stand alone, and so on. If you really feel like reading some of it, here's the menu of stories.

As for whether it's actually safe to read, well. Most of it should be. Then there's 'The Human'.

Here's an excerpt that's probably the worst thing I've ever written.

I wanna read ‘The Human’.
I’ll be claiming Rj Cyler.

Joey chuckled. "Then that leaves you with the dog and whoever Shaggy supposed to be. You have fun with that."

Speaking of Shaggy... he mused as he gave the red dog now beset by Sadie a sidelong glance. Something seemed off about the dog, he just couldn't place what. He hated the feeling of knowing something was out of the ordinary but never getting a reason as to why it so.

As if on queue, a horrible creeping sensation followed by an icy chill and the smell of rotten eggs assaulted Joey's senses.

Now something was most definitely wrong.

"Smells like a reason to go home to me." Joey said as he instinctively tucked his hands into his pocket and curled his fingers around his phone and keys. They certainly weren't weapons of war, but he felt a semblance a safety at least knowing he had the police on dial just in case something went down.

Joey's guts had never been wrong before about danger, and he wouldn't doubt it now.

Despite his own cautiousness, others where rather dubious. He eyed the pasty-skinned salary-man who made his way towards what he assumed was the direction in which the smell originated. Joey wouldn't be following him.

You have my interest.

Josh chuckled. "Then I won't leave your side, madam." he said with a flourish.

Internally, he did a double-take. Whether or not Taylor meant what she had said, still was nice hear. Her blush certainly hadn't escaped his notice as well.

Taylor's nudge brought him back to reality. He shrugged and flashed her a grin. "I wouldn't mind being taken if it's by you. Although, lemme warn you, I don't taste to good, weed smoke ruins the flavor."

He glanced back at a fast approaching Olivia. Josh discretely noted the exchange between the boy and a red dog, maybe his red dog? He hadn't noticed the thing until now, but he found it rather odd that Sadie hadn't immediately introduced herself the moment they arrived. Why was that? The boy had been here when they had arrived, that he was sure of.

Jo shrugged. Maybe he had the dog locked away until now, he likely had his reasons.

"We could get a room, but then who'd be left of the Mystery Gang?"

An idea formed in his head, on that earlier seemed unlikely but now seemed plausible.

He turned to Olivia. "speaking of mystery, Liv, how's the nose on that dog?" he nodded towards crimson canine.

The Banana, bringing humanity to flavortown since the dawn of time.

Joey snickered at Taylor's comment and took her smirk as his queue to join her. He couldn't tell if Liv's coy words earlier held any truth, but hell if he didn't take them as a boost to his confidence. Suddenly, he was in a great mood, and that coupled with is high; maybe cloud nine actually severed as an accurate descriptor.

With confidence and high clouding better judgement, he sauntered up next to Taylor after gaining some distance from the group. "You think you can handle this mystery being as high as cloud 9?" he jibbed.

Excellent. That is a manageable size. I doubted they would be much larger, given their lifespan, but if they were much smaller there wouldn't be much of them to eat.

Violet slugs are edible, docile, containable, breed quickly, easy to feed...

The full package.
