Bio

Hello everyone. I'm Dutch, a mother of a 8-year old boy and I love both rp-ing and writing. Since May 2020 I'm one of the contests mods.

I started with writing Dutch stories in 2002, I was already 19 at that time. I joined a writing competition and that got me started. Soon I started to write down all the stories my over-active imagination came up with. I had my first forum rp experience in 2003 on a Dutch fantasy forum. While I continued to write, I stopped rp-ing when the particular rp and forum slowly died. In 2011 my love for rp's rekindled when I joined a site with a forum and I started to RP solely in English since that is the language of the site. This is also when I wrote my first story in English.

I've got a few 1x1 rp's going on this site and a couple more on another site. I've always been a fan of writing competitions and I joined a lot several of the ones that were hosted on this website. Now I get to host them myself and really enjoy that too.

When you come here to check if I'm online, know that even when I show as online I might not be able to respond to RP's. I open this site so that when I have time I can spend some time here, but I don't always end up with the time to do so.

If I haven't replied in a while, feel free to poke me. I don't ghost on purpose, sometimes I just forgetful and if I read your reply and accidentally closed the tab I might forget I was supposed to reply T_T

Welcome to the Voting and Feedback round for MFP#5!

Voting and Feedback guidelines

  • Please take your time to read through all the entries before voting for your favourite work. The reasons you base your vote on are up to you, as long the vote isn’t based on whether or not you like the author.
It would be nice if you could share why you voted for a specific work.
  • Giving feedback is optional but highly encouraged. When giving feedback you should be respectful and constructive. It’s good to point out any flaws or the things you feel could be improved or why you didn't like something, but don’t be mean.
Make sure to point out what you liked or what appreciated in the entry too.
  • Contestant may (and are encouraged to) vote and/or give feedback for the other entries but shouldn’t vote for their own entry. If contestants wish to withhold a vote and only give feedback, that is good too.
  • The entries are anonymous unless the writer asked for having their name added. That being said, writers may claim their work at any time during or after the voting period.
  • The entry with the most votes will win, but in case of a tie a Contest Mod will cast the tie-breaker vote.
  • You can vote for entries and post your feedback in this thread, but if you rather have your vote and/or feedback be anonymous you can PM it to @Calle.
  • The voting period deadline is April 29th, 9:00 CET, which is 7:00 server time (both times are in a.m.).

The Entries

You know how in anime sometimes a stoic character does a thumbs up and stars appear around him because they feel they did a good job. That is how I imagine Nethan is doing the thumbs up to Gavin. He thinks he nailed it.
Michael noticed Niccia rise and examined her expression for a moment. "Banished?" he repeated. The replacement had already felt wrong, but now he leared she was actually banished. Why? From where he was he looked at Arceus and then at the replacement of Gavin who carried Niccia's replacement. Banished.
After a final glance at Niccia and the look in her eyes, he turned to Eros again. "Did your father mentioned why he banished her?" he asked. It was a long shot, but maybe Eros knew.

Diel made a dismissive motion with her wing. "Oh, nothing special. Wherever Netherlu flies I follow and he likes to keep an eye on the region, so we fly around a lot. Even today we had to stop on our way here because a human was in trouble and we brought him to the hospital first." She had a happy look in her eyes. "He doesn't like to sit still for a long time. Even here, when we all have a chance to sit back, catch up and relax."

Sea nodded slightly. "Not a problem," he stated. "I was actually thinking of making a pool too. Since you made a hole I could fill it with water so the water-types have a place to swim." He nodded to a Lapras. "She can barely move on land. But... it would be a problem if that platform comes down again."
He pondered the possible scenarios for a moment.

Bear landed on his feet and rose his fists in the air to celebrate the fantastic landing he had performed. When Carrish joined him and took on a defensive stance, he got excited. "Oh yeah! Let's do this!"
He ran towards her and initiated his Low Kick.

"Right, leave it to me," Nethan said and he strolled away with his hands in his pockets. He followed Mindy and Xapher to the Lake Trio. As they addressed Xapher he spoke up. "Pardon the intrusion," he said to them with a nod of his head and then turned to Mindy. "Hypotethically, if Gavin wouldn't love you, would you hate him for that?"
Mindy blinked at the sudden question. "N-no, why?"
"Good. Do you have feelings for him?"
"What?" Mindy blushed. "No, I mean, sure, I like him, he's a fun guy and intriguing, but... what kind of a question is that?"
Nethan narrowed his eyes as he tried to understand the meaning of the answer. "You humans are complex," he sighed. "But I suppose the answer will do." He turned to look at Gavin and gave a thumbs up.

Mindy still wasn't sure what had happened here, but decided to give her attention to the Lake Trio instead. "Hi, nice to meet you," she said. "I'm Mindy, a human, but you probably already knew that."

Ilios had an amused look in his eyes. "We actually had some suggestions," he said. "The party is great, of course. good food, good company, but we were talking and decided it could use a little more..."
He paused as he thought about the right words to use and he glanced to his sister for back-up.

"Oh, I like her," Andy said to Frosiien as she mentioned he was charming. "She has good taste." He turned to Dera to introduce himself. "Andrew Bansing, but I prefer to be called Andy. It's a pleasure to meet you."
He saw Benny fly to where the platform was and was glad for that. It was impossible for him to keep an eye on Bear from here.

"My pleasure," Benjamin replied. He watched Dia leave, and when she was out of sight he turned his attention to Sara. "What an eventful morning, right?" he uttered, followed by a sigh.
What had happened with Ray? Now she would be locked up in solitairy confinement again. H shuddered slightly. How awful would that be? He had been on the inside of one of those rooms only yesterday, but thankfully for just a small period of time. They had let him out as soon as he had taken his medication, but he had a hunch it wouldn't be that easy for Ray. This wasn't the first time.

He had his eyes on the door again; Ray had left through there, Dia had left through there. Dia could return anytime, and hopefully with good news about Ari. He shifted his gaze back to Sara as he waited patiently while she ate.

It's the 21st and 9:00 has passed. The contest is closed and the voting and feedback thread will be up soon.
last 24 hours before the deadline and at this moment we have 3 entries.
We've got our first entry for this contest. And today included there are 3 days left before the deadline.
"I will keep it in mind," Mitch promised and he walked away. He would take the time to read everything through and if he had to admit it to himself, he looked forward to getting to know the people Mike had acquainted himself with. At first glance Dante seemed decent.
That was for later.
He had almost reached his car when his phone rang and he picked it up. "Yes, I have time," he stated. "I'll call back when I can."
After that he got in the car and drove away.

Lily gave Gaia a slice of cake and then turned to Rose, noticing how hungry she seemed. She made a mental note to keep an eye on how much food she needed. "There is more if you want. And the kitchen is always available to cook food. Everyone has a speaker in their room; just push the button and you can talk to someone who can relay your wishes to me or the kitchen."
She folded her hands together as she looked at her three darlings. "I hope you'll feel at home here. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask them."

Benjamin read the text and typed back Not that I need to, but I'll bring a friend. After sending that he made sure the device was on silent mode before putting it away again. He wouldn't want to disturb everyone here because someone wanted to contact him.
Mike likewise had his phone on silent mode and struck up a conversation about Italy, even though he much rather wanted to talk about April, but that was a bad idea in a public place like this.
Microfiction and poetry contest #5

What is the goal?
The Microfiction and Poetry Contest is more of a writing exercise than a contest, but there will be a voting round at the end. The aim for this writing contest doesn’t have to be a story with a beginning-middle-end like we do in the RPGC’s, although it may be and it’s a challenge in itself to tell a story in very few words.
This contest aims to be a lot broader. You are free to experiment with literary and poetic devices, explore different types of poetry or zoom in on a literary technique. Go with something you know, practice the things you feel could use some work, or try something new.
Feel like some purple prose? Make it as purple as you can. Always wanted to toy with alliterations? Now is your chance. Want to try a 6-word-story? It’s within the word count limits. Funny dialogue, sonnets, haiku’s, … The only limit is the word count.
Another thing about this contest is equally important to know: this is more in line with free-writing than it is with planning and plotting: you only have one week to submit something. It doesn't have to be perfect, but I hope to see some unique and creative takes on the prompt, which you can read below in the contest rules.

Core rules:
  • At all times follow the Fundamental Rules of the Guild and the Moderation Policy for Forum Contests.
  • After reading the above this should be obvious: No plagiarism and respect copyright laws.
  • Your submission must be written by you and specifically for this contest.
  • This is a place for original fiction, no fanfiction allowed.
  • No explicit sex, but you may fade to black.
  • No excessive violence or gore.
  • Don’t forget to subscribe to this thread. You will receive updates on the contest and on the number of entries, and reminders about the deadline here. I will not PM them.
  • The winner of this contest will be honoured in our Hall of Fame.

Contest rules:
  • The prompt for this contest is Sleep.
  • There will be a minimum word count of 5 and a maximum of 500
  • Any literary or poetry style is permitted.
  • Please PM @Calle the entries and give it as title MFP#5 - (Your Title).
  • Your entry can be anonymous or carry your name. Let me know what you want in the PM. If you don't specify, your entry will be posted anonymously, but you may always claim your story during or at the end of the voting round.
  • The deadline is April 21th, 9:00 CET, which is 7:00 server time (both times are in a.m.)

Number of entries so far: 3
Tomorrow a new microfiction and poetry contest will start.

And once that is concluded, we'll have another art contest.
