Bio

Hello everyone. I'm Dutch, a mother of a 8-year old boy and I love both rp-ing and writing. Since May 2020 I'm one of the contests mods.

I started with writing Dutch stories in 2002, I was already 19 at that time. I joined a writing competition and that got me started. Soon I started to write down all the stories my over-active imagination came up with. I had my first forum rp experience in 2003 on a Dutch fantasy forum. While I continued to write, I stopped rp-ing when the particular rp and forum slowly died. In 2011 my love for rp's rekindled when I joined a site with a forum and I started to RP solely in English since that is the language of the site. This is also when I wrote my first story in English.

I've got a few 1x1 rp's going on this site and a couple more on another site. I've always been a fan of writing competitions and I joined a lot several of the ones that were hosted on this website. Now I get to host them myself and really enjoy that too.

When you come here to check if I'm online, know that even when I show as online I might not be able to respond to RP's. I open this site so that when I have time I can spend some time here, but I don't always end up with the time to do so.

If I haven't replied in a while, feel free to poke me. I don't ghost on purpose, sometimes I just forgetful and if I read your reply and accidentally closed the tab I might forget I was supposed to reply T_T

Two nurses came to take Ray away, and the guards would follow. Vivian watched them leave, her red lips pulled in a pleased smile. She'd visit Ray after she was settled in, there were a few things she'd have to do before that.
"This way," the nurse on her right said. "We're going to a good place. You'll get better soon now. It will all be better from here on." She continued with similar sentiments as they walked to an elevator. Once inside, she pushed on the lower button that would bring them to the basement and the lift doors slowly closed.

Benjamin watched the butterfly on his arm. It was obviously not a real butterfly, but he had never seen anything like it. Where had it come from? And why was it here? He was so obsessed with it that he didn't notice Marc observing him from a distance.
"Nope, all good!" Netherlu said. "You two have more then enough to anyway, I wouldn't even ask you if I had something. I can find other humans if I need one to go on a quest for me." He chuckled to himself. "Quest giver, I kinda like that idea." He turned to Nygari. "What do you think about this: I hide a trinket, tell a human I lost it, and they can feel good about themselves for returning it! I have some trinkets in my nest I could use."

As Netherlu was explaining his newly hatched idea to Nygari, Michael turned to the young Pokémon. "Hello again," he greeted him, bending down to scratch him on the head. "I hope this party isn't too boring for you. Your father seems to be himself again, I'm sure that is a relief for you."

Andy reached out to take it, but didn't do so yet. "Are you sure about it? And if so, can you tell me what Michael is supposed to do with it?"
To say he was grateful she was willing to offer something she wasn't supposed to was an understatement.

Harcu turned his gaze to Eros and nodded. "I haven't heard the details, I hadn't even seen the little one before today. I'd love to question father about him but I haven't found a good opportunity yet." He frowned. "I haven't seen him pay particular attention to his offspring either, nor can I foresee what his role in everything will be. Time will tell, I suppose."

The new Mew slept, but Kim didn't want to leave. It could wake up. "Hello," she greeted Belle with a soft voice.
Jirachi floated away saying he would get a treat for Kim for all her hard work.
"A lot have come to have a quick look, and everyone seems okay with me being with the newly hatched Mew," she said. "I'm not sure why, I'm just a regular Furret after all, but I am glad."
With her fellow ranger taking the high ground, or trees in this case, Fenna stayed on the ground and scouted ahead. The falcon stayed close to her, which proved to be a good thing as during one of her scouts a wolf crept up and if it hadn't been for the falcon who bravely dove down, she wouldn't have been able to end it with her spear.

Overall the journey to the Mazy Hillocks went well and around noon they reached it. Fenna ate some of her rations as she gazed over the natural beauty of the area ahead, but it looked daunting and uninviting at the same time. It was a great sight for sure, but to cross it? If she had a choice she'd rather not, but Adam had made it clear that this was the road they had to take when others asked about it.

Her eyes moved over the vast area of that consisted mostly of rocks and ravines. She was fairly sure she saw something that looked like a cave somewhere in the east, but the path leading there seemed difficult, and Adam had confidence he could use his magic to help them across the obstacles in the west. Who knew what lurked inside the caverns here? She turned her attention west. From this place it indeed seemed the most sensible path.

Hiking through the Hillocks was no easy feat, and Fenna stayed a lot closer to the group this time, but still checked the path ahead occasionally. This terrain wasn't suitable for tracking, but she did find territory markings and even some animal fecal matter. This area was inhabited by animals, and they were undoubtedly better equipped at moving around than they were. She relayed the information, but luckily they didn't come across anything that wanted to kill them.

Instead they reached a dead end.

Thankfully Adam had a plan and she watched in awe as he grew trees from the ground to form a bridge. "Good job," she complimented him. She crossed the bridge with Adam, taking a nervous first step on the wood just after Adam did, and carefully making her way across. Her muscles were tense and she clutched her spear. She wasn't afraid of heights, not really, but this was one of the scariest things she had done ever since she had woken up in that stone coffin. The falcon flew across, turned back, dove under Fenna the newly created bridge and flew to the other side again, landing on a rock. She was preening her feather when Fenna joined her.
"Show-off," she muttered to the falcon, but smiled as she did.

As Adam had to keep an eye on the bridge, Fenna turned her back to the contraption to inspect the immediate surroundings. She looked for any signs of wolves or other predators and climbed up a rock to get a better overview of the nearby area. When she heard a commotion behind her she quickly turned around. Zell lost his balance! Fenna was about to run back on the bridge, but Mackenzie helped him back on his feet. A sigh of relief followed, that looked like a close call. After that, she didn't want to scout ahead until everyone was safely on this.

She flashed a smile when Mackenzie offered to scout and nodded, wishing the girl good luck. She noticed her falcon was still on the rock and when she glanced into the sky she realized why. Vultures. That was to be expected, a dangerous area like this would be home to scavengers. Luckily vultures were opportunist and they wouldn't pose a threat unless they were really hungry. She went back to her falcon and offered her arm, an invitation the bird of prey accepted.

When everyone had made it across and Mackenzie joined them again, she listened to her report. Recently deceased things? Not a good sign.
Mackenzie had taken the right path. Fenna glanced at the vultures in the sky, they circled a different area. "I bet we'll find something dead in that direction as well," she said, gesturing to the birds.
I have a female scientist with questionable morality who very much enjoys experimenting on living things.
I also have a male scientist/doctor who thinks experimenting on living things is unethical, but can be part of the staff to treat wounds and try to change the organisation from the inside.
At dawn Ethan waited for his friends at the agreed upon location. The shift was over and they had some successes. Agents Morrison and Barrow had already left, and Morrison had promised to write the report for their shift.
When they approached they looked relieved to see he had survived the night and he gave Benjamin and Mike the details of what had happened. He had texted them some of it already when he let them know he was done for the night, but he filled in some more details now.
"I'm off to bed," he concluded. "Try not to get into trouble during the day, without me around."
"Of course," Mike said.
"And don't go on any crusades to find Steph without me."
"We won't," Benjamin promised. "Daytime is not a good moment for that anyway."

Confident his friends wouldn't do anything dangerous, Ethan took his leave to get some much-needed sleep at the new base.

Benjamin and Mike remained where they were for a moment and Benjamin checked his watch. It was a bit early still. The movie and a good night sleep had kept him from worrying too much, but his mind wandered back to Steph.
Yes, you're basically writing a single post as if it were a RP. You can use the NPC's as you see fit as long as you incorporate the points I listed. They are all commoners you can generally find in low-tech village and you approach/create a villager I didn't mention as long as it fits the setting.

Completing the objective is not necessary, it serves more as a motivation or direction for your character. You are in a new area and now you can show how your character would try to figure out where they are. Concluding you have no idea where you are is a valid outcome of your investigation.

RP Contest #1

Let's try something new! This time it's a more roleplaying type of writing competition, because you will use one of your characters and use that to react to the situation I will provide. First time doing a contest like this, so let's see how it goes.

Setting:
How odd, you don’t remember going to a forest. Yet here you are, on a muddy path surrounded by bushes and trees. It must have rained recently, judging by the puddles.
Standing still isn’t going to solve this, so you continue in the direction you are facing.
A short walk later and you reach a little village, with cobblestone roads, and houses with white-plastered walls and straw rooftops. Among those you can see, you notice an elderly man who is tending to the roses in his garden, two middle-aged women who are standing next to a well on what looks to be the center of the village, and a young man pushes a handcart filled with bags towards what looks to be a bakery. All are dressed in simple clothes in various colours from what looks to be natural materials: wool and linen.
While you can see houses and shops, there doesn’t seem to be an inn. Nor do you see any children or domesticated animals.

Objective:
Try to find out where you are.

Extra information:
Here are elements to incorporate in your writing, if there is a choice you can only choose one option:
  • The villagers are not surprised by your appearance, even if you look nothing like them or carry items that don’t exist in the village. They speak your language.
  • The villagers look at you with either distrust or pity. Either way, they don’t know how you got here either.
  • The village has a mayor who lives in a mansion just outside the village; he is either hated or feared. The gate that leads to the mansion is locked.
  • Don't forget to weave in details about your character.

I'm reading up and will post sometime today. You all made lovely long posts after the last update, so reading up and finding a good way to react to everything (or at least the most important things) may take a bit XD
Good stuff though, looking forward to reading it all.
Fenna watched the map as Adam explained the route he had planned. It was a sensible one. The first part of the route didn't seem like it would give them a lot of trouble, and staying close to the river was always a good idea. The second part would be difficult, regardless of the path they chose.
"It's a good plan," she agreed when he asked her opinion on it. "On paper that looks like the best route through the Mazy Hillocks, but we can reassess when we get there. Easier terrain could also be home to things we'd rather avoid." Having seen what she needed to see, she looked up. "I'd be happy to scout ahead when needed."

She then turned to Mackensie who had asked her a question. "Of course. When we make our next camp I'd be happy to teach you what I know."
As Mackensie turned to her duties, Fenna also packed her bag and went to the river to fill the waterskin.

It didn't take long before everyone was ready to leave and so was Fenna. She walked at the front this time and the falcon didn't stray far from them. Every time it noticed the distance getting too large, it circled back to them, using the air currents to glide circles. With Adam responsible for keeping the group on track, Fenna had her attention mostly on the ground. This path looked like it was used often by locals, which made sense. It was an easy road and close to a river.

She spotted a tree that was easy to climb and grabbed the first branch to do so. It would give her a good overview of the area - the last thing she wanted was to be surprised by more skeletons. Am I going to climb in a tree every day? she wondered and chuckled to herself. She didn't need to climb to the top, halfway up she already had a good view. No skeletons or other big monsters in sight. A flash of grey sprinted away in tall grass, it was gone before she had properly seen it, but it reminded her of a big dog. The glittering in that area made her think there was a body of water. Drinking place for local wildlife?

What did the local wildlife look like?

She climbed down to walk with the group again. A single animal wouldn't be an issue, they would never attack a group. Some dangerous animals lived in packs though and there was no reason to assume it would be different here.

"I don't think skeletons will be our only concern," she stated. "I saw an animal run away that was large enough to be a concern if there are more of them."

Fenna opened her eyes when someone greeted her with a good morning. It took her a moment to realise where she was. And that the previous day obviously hadn't been a dream. She hadn't woken up next to her husband, nor could she hear her children who hopelessly failed at trying to be silent in the morning. A tear rolled down her cheek and she rubbed it away. They were far away somewhere, and she would find a way back to them. She sat up, hiding a yawn behind her hand. A gawk from the tree greeted her and she looked up with a smile. The falcon was still there.

She got up. "Morning, everyone," she said as she stretched her arms.

Now what? Breakfast? Although she wasn't much of an early eater - she never ate breakfast right after getting up - she did have some morning rituals. It started to sink in that not only did she have to miss her morning cuddles, but her morning tea as well. That sucked. Even when they had gone camping they had always brought teabags with them. She bent down to pick up her spear and examined it for a moment - she had never seen one of these before, but she had read about spears with a fork attached to the end, but weren't they supposed to be larger? Maybe she'd have an opportunity to test this one, but now was not the time for that. There were more important things to do.

Fenna walked over to where Adam was. "Hey," she said to him. "Can you show me what route you are planning to take today?"
