~An Absolute Comics Roleplay~

P R E M I S E:
Aliens live among us. For the past ninety years, metahumans, mutants and the battles between superheroes and supervillains have dominated the lives of everyone on the planet Earth. Heroes such as the Superman from Krypton and the Manhunter from Mars have made life from other planets an accepted part of daily life. But unbeknownst to even the watchful eye of S.H.I.E.L.D., key figures on Earth have begun to disappear, only to be replaced by hostile alien imposters positioning for a Secret War between alien races. An arms race between the Skrulls and the White Martians has been brewing beneath the surface for several years now and threatens to come to a head.

All across the globe, crime has risen exponentially and many of the world's superpowers are in international turmoil as a direct causality between the warring factions. Even unaware of the foes at home, Earth is now forced to face a threat on a third front as the Reach has begun carving an aggressive path toward Earth.

More than ever, Earth needs her heroes. Who will answer the call?

Secret Invasion/Secret War

OU RP with loosely defined history. Organizations and dates, no character names.
Plot inspired by Secret Invasion, YJ Invasion and JL Pilot.

Hidden factions include the Skrulls and the Martians, possibly the Reach. People being replaced by aliens, all while the above factions fight to control Earth.

Skrulls
White Martians
The Reach
Kroloteans

Rising crime, international turmoil and other struggles a direct causality of the 'Secret War'

-WWI
-The Defenders?
-WWII
-Justice Society founded in the wake of World War II
-The SSR offers the JSA an ultimatum of join, and become government superheroes or forcible retire, resistance meant unmasking and/or jail time.

What's different about this RP versus past One Universe Games?

The biggest difference this time around is that players will have the option to indicate if they want their character to have been, or to be replaced by a member of the warring alien factions. If this offer is accepted, they will receive a private message from the GM, informing them that their offer has been accepted and any further required details can be determined at that time. This allows players to take ownership over parts of the main plot, and contribute to driving the antagonistic side of the RP. In some instances, it may even be a member of a character's rogue gallery that has been replaced rather than the primary POV themselves so that players are able to unravel the mystery of the Secret War and prevent the Invasion.

■ Fixed - Events determined by the GM that are essential to the RP.
◆ Malleable - Events that are proposed by the GM but can be modified prior to the RP starting pending Players and Characters.
▶ Player - Events determined by Player submitted sheets.
In the late twenty-first century, Earth's resources began to reach dangerous levels of depletion. Almost every nation's efforts were channelled into finding an alternative to sustain our overpopulated planet. While some looked to create artificial or replicated resources, most efforts were focused on the unknown beyond our solar system. Numerous citizens from all walks of life volunteered for Biblical ark-like projects and were jettisoned into the cold void of space following predetermined routes that should have led to new worlds.

Most of the arks were never made contact again, but one triumphant day in 2101, Earth received a transmission. One of the Ark's had found a stable planet, a new Earth. Not only had they found one stable planet but several neighbouring solar systems that continued one if not more stable planets. The resource-rich galaxy was previously unheard of. The ark's navigation data proved that it had passed through a wormhole that had sent the vessel far further than its limited light speed engine ever could have propelled it.

<Society redevelops, terraforming frustrations and failures, class divide>

<Leading to our story...>

Maintenance and technical support ship finds itself drawn into preventing a war between two factions.

Responds to a distress call finding a science vessel with no one on board left alive. Salvages what they can, taking the ship's black box. Investigation reveals that the ship was testing a new form of bioweapon. The crew finds themselves pursued by both factions who want the weapon back all while realizing that they have been exposed and only have a matter of time left before they begin to suffer the same fate.

Old Idea

Clear skies illuminated the rolling hills of the western plains as the wranglers broke across the horizon, driving the herd of horses towards the farm barely visible across the green. The growl of atmospheric engines filled the air as the distinct smell of the starship's exhaust filled the air, the odour covering the aroma of the long grass.

A hull covered in chipped and peeling paint was visible from the ground as the ship descended toward the port beyond the farm.

Space Western
Aliens
Synthetic Lifeforms
Limited Light Speed
Humans are outgunned in most space battles.
Earth is mostly destroyed, existing as a slum world for those who weren't able to get off. Most of civilization is flooded, floating cities exist but as power depletes they fall from the sky. Some live among the flooded ruins of the former great cities.

Mars is considered a successfully terraformed planet but was abandoned for literally greener pastures in other systems. An untamed planet, Mars has two cities, surrounded by rolling plains and small, frontier towns.

Corruption bled into the terraforming efforts. Those released from stasis first used the opportunity to hijack the system and release others in batches to make them easier to control, and more subservient. Many worlds fell into caste or feudal systems. Entire systems run by oligarchies, self-imposed monarchies and even fascist regimes.

Reptilian Race
-Reproduces by placing eggs in those deemed strong. Hatchlings eat their way out, thus 'absorbing' the strength.
-Growing old is considered a dishonour, the highest honour is being chosen to bear the young. This is also reserved for captured enemies they consider worthy.
Space Western Idea

Privateers: Collection of spacers and smugglers with a license to freely pirate for a portion of plunder from XYZ Government. Absolute scourge of the black and bane of the ABC.

The Colony Wars:

The Settled Systems:

The Black: A general term meaning space itself, although it can be also used specifically to refer to unchartered space or an unknown void.

Bird: A bird is a slang term for an agile ship or fighter.

Boat: A boat is a slang term used for large vessels or freighters.

Federation of Central Unified Systems
-The oldest government in the Settled Systems. The Federation was formed at the heart of what is the now Settled Systems, and as a result, all other systems were built out from its first successful terraform, with the exception of the Highland Monarchy.

Coalition of Allied Planets
-Planets whose independent governments have agreed to cooperate for shared goals and trade. The primary objective of these planets is to maintain independence and autonomy free of the Federation.

The Highland Monarchy of the Hymenoxys Cluster
-Located in the furthest reaches of the Settled Systems, the Highland Monarchy was founded when a Generational Ship was hijacked mid-travel. Upon arriving in the Hymenoxys Cluster, the hijackers were betrayed by their own, as a pair of siblings took control, killing the other hijackers and positing themseoves as heroes. Strategically waking the ship's inhabitants from stasis, the brothers were able to filter people in a caste-like system and ultimately elect themselves as kings over their new territory. Now three centuries later, the Monarchy still reigns over the Hymenoxys Cluthser and most of the Delta Quadrant.

Sovereign Planets:
-True sovereigns belong to planets, vessels or stations that have no alliance with a greater form of government. Many of these Sovereign Planets are the result of either failed or abandoned terraforming attempts, often leaving behind smaller settlements which are either contained in an environmental shield or require constant use of an Environmental Suit while outside of a controlled environment. These worlds are hard to live on and produce a hardy people.

-Personal laser/Energy beam weapons are expensive, prone to over heating and otherwise rare weapons.

-Ballistic Weapons are common but heavily discouraged during combat onboard ships due to numerous factors.

-Melee weapons are the most common form of a personal side arm, ranging from telescopic swords and staves to basic fixed-blade knives or axes.

-Technology is highly variable. Ship and personal survival suit technology was rapidly advanced due to its necessity, especially following the Colony Wars.

Hierarchy of Sentient and Virtual Life Forms:
-Synthetic Lifeform: A sentient, self-aware Artificial Intelligence that inhabits a physical and autonomous body. The most advanced versions of Synthetic Lifeforms are covered in a replication of the human epidermis making high-end models nearly indistinguishable from organic lifeforms. The legality around Synthetic Lifeforms various between System Governments with the Coalition recognizing both Synthetic Lifeforms and Artificial Intelligences as contributing members of society, compared to the Federation which limits the rights and privileges of these lifeforms to the point they are interchangeable with androids or robots.

-Artificial Intelligence: An artificial intelligence or 'AI', is a sentient, self-aware program that only exists incorporeally within a mainframe or other computer.

-Android: An android, or simply 'droid', is a humanoid-shaped mechanical construct programmed to respond, interact and carry out various tasks or purposes. They are programmed with limited problem-solving abilities.

-Virtual Assistant: A virtual assistant, or VA, is a program often connected to a large, or series of databanks and capable of carrying out pre-determined routines and tasks to suit its specific function. Virtual Assistants are often used in environmental suits, ship systems and even weapons in order to aid and enhance both the functionality of its installation and the user. Generally, virtual assistants are voice-activated, but some are programmed with other interface methods such as physical inputs or neural connectivity.

-Robot: An autonomous construct designed and programmed to carry out a specific purpose or task.

-Most flora and fauna are a direct result of it being transplanted from Earth, however much of it has evolved and adapted to its new homes, creating distinctive, alien species. Rarer is the native species to those planets as most were primarily uninhabited prior to humanity's arrival.

-Cowboys versus Industrialization versus 'Indians' kind of setting. The Federation versus the Coalition while the 'aliens' fight to regain territory and keep humanity from settling on more worlds. Independents left to pick up the pieces.

Trail Blazers - Elite pilots tasked with the creation and upkeep of FTL routes and lanes.
I really missed roleplaying with you guys.

It's like we never left...

I wasn't gonna let anyone else have it.

Nor should you have.

They're in the walls!

Explains the smell.
I think it's time to formally close the doors on PRCU. While this has been a great RP to both develop and run, I believe it has come to an end and in no small part due to my own contributions, or lack therefore of. Someday I'll likely pick up the lore and try again with experiences learned here but until that time thank you all for a great roleplay and each of your contributions. I'm sure our paths will cross again somewhere on the Guild.

I'll be deleting the Discord Server and closing the lore docs to the public. Thank you again and best of luck with your future roleplay endeavours.

Kinky. I love how he went from being on the defensive to a completely lowered guard once he smelt that.

Yes and no, I kind of treat Link and 'The Wolf' as separate personas. So the Wolf being intrigued doesn't necessarily mean that Link is sold or relaxed as the case may be.

Edit: I approach Link as having some of the best traits of both Hulk and Wolverine with a very healthy dose of Bigby Wolf.
I still have to figure out where Cece went.

Edit: Somehow, I could see Cece being akin to Flashpoint Cyborg or Booster Gold and being a high profile celebrity superhero now, still unfortunately with someone else pulling her strings. Strong, content public face, but more alone and miserable than ever when the cameras are off.

Episode #1: New Beginnings

"Who are you?!" A man exclaimed, bursting into the kitchen, an expression plastered on his face that Link could only assume belonged to feelings of constipation. The smell of sweat was the first odour that wafted over the werewolf. It was followed by the distinct smell of eggs, bacon grease and a scent that Link could only describe as suet.

The Wolf watched the tall figure closely, its claws poking beneath Link's fingertips, aching for a proper fight as the newcomer's keen eyes quickly darted back and forth between the friendly giant and the girl with the teacup.

Telepath.

Link inwardly growled. He recognized the man's look as the newcomer exchanged glances with the woman. Considering the woman before him was clearly blind, that knowing look and sense of calm could only mean she was operating with a sense Link himself didn't have. And given the pause it had produced in the large man, Lincoln could only extrapolate that meant they were communicating non-verbally. The only piece of the puzzle that Link didn't have was which one was the telepath. It'd be easy to assume the woman; such an ability made sense to combat her visual impairment. But appearances were often deceiving, and perhaps the vanilla gorilla positioned defensively was in fact the telepath with a gym complex.

"And what do you want here?"

Faster than the more muscular man could respond, the Wolf could have its claws around his neck. One swift movement would be all it would take to remove his jugular. A familiar red haze set over Link's eyes as he fought the hackles slowly rising on the back of his neck. He wasn't used to being confronted so brazenly, let alone by someone of a larger stature. But the male positing to protect the one who introduced herself as Eilidh was still nearly a head taller than Lincoln himself. The Wolf didn't like that.

Not one bit.

"Aye, we're still the Young Justice. I'm Eilidh - this is Red... Don't get many folk 'round here these days." The woman with the teacup answered, her tone indicating she was hoping to break the brewing tension.

With the arrival of another, the entire situation changed, however. Entering the room was an opposing door Link's attention was immediately drawn to the younger woman. Noting the knife in her hand and the distinct lack of silver's signature scent, Link couldn't help but allow a small smirk to crawl to the edge of his mouth at the ineffective weapon. The woman was clearly drained, but something about her gave Link the impression that a fight would be rejuvenating. She smelled not of flowers or sweets but of blood, salt and gun powder. To the Wolf, that was practically an aphrodisiac.

"Who's this?"

Stepping back from Red, Link composed himself, steeling his expression before turning towards the woman and politely extending a courteous hand.

"Lincoln Thrope," He stated, introducing himself. "I was just telling Eilidh that a man named Carter Hall had recently directed me to this tower. I'm a member of the Titans Academy in Midway City." Link's voice trailed off for a second.

"Or rather, was." He let out a reluctant sigh before continuing. "I've been framed for murder. I have no allies left. Carter told me that 'Young Justice' would be my best bet." Link paused again, looking directly at Kali before levelling his gaze around the room towards Eilidh briefly and then squarely at Red.

"I guess what I'm trying to say is, I came to you all for help." He managed to spit out finally.

"Young Justice is my last hope."
