The white haired fortune teller blinked at the letters laying just perfectly on the devil card. She couldn’t help but let out a slightly annoyed chuckle as she grabbed the one addressed to her. Oh how the fates had a way of playing with her. She broke the shogun’s seal while Sanzoku gripped her weapon and looked up at the sky. Himaru had little concern as to how the letters got there and rather why, after all these years, had the shogun decided to contact her. Not even her mother, who was a far more well known fortune teller had received a summons. Had the leader finally given in and decided he needed spiritual guidance, or perhaps he had a ghost problem? She chuckled at the thought as she opened the letter and read it.

Her amused smile quickly faded, so this was because of the incident with the Persian. Great, just what she needed. “Like I need more of a reminder of the needless loss of life that happened today, both human and pokemon…” She muttered. She had meant to keep that statement in her head but it seemed her brain and body wanted it to be said out loud. She handed Sanzoku the letter when she offered to have hers burned as well and looked past her for a moment at an individual approaching her stall. “Sorry, last reading of the day. I have other business to attend to.” She stood as she said this and gathered the cards that lay in front of her.

“Looks like I will be seeing you around then. I have to clean up here, you are welcome to stick around if you want but I am just going to tidy, close up and then do a personal reading for myself. I am sure you have more important things to do.” As she said this she reached for the crystal ball that was off to the side of the table. Looking in it she expected to see her own reflection in it, however what she saw instead was a creature peering back at her red eyes locking with hers in the split second that she had the ball in her hands. She jumped back in shock sending the crystal orb in the other direction as if the thing had shocked her. It hit a wall and shattered. Himaru would be upset if it wasn’t for the fact that her heart was racing. She hadn’t realized it but she had clutched the cloth of her black robes above her heart. What had she just seen? An omen? A pokemon? A glimpse of the future? She wasn’t sure.

As she calmed down and her mind started racing she realized that Sanzoku hadn’t even had a chance to leave before this happened. Himaru attempted to salvage the situation though she knew deep down it was an obvious lie that was coming out of her mouth. “Heh, caught a weird angle of haunter’s reflection in there. It spooked me…” The pokemon had been nowhere near for Himaru to have seen it, but hopefully the larger woman hadn’t noticed that. “Anyway…I guess I will see you later. Have a good day,” and she quickly ducked behind the counter to pick up the shattered pieces of the ball. “Looks like I will need to replace two crystal balls.” She muttered under her breath peering into a piece to try to see whatever it was she saw the first time, it was just her however. “Odd.”

Himaru nodded at the woman in front of her while she continued to shuffle the deck as she began to explain. “For this reading I will be doing a 6 card spread with what I like to simply call the journey ahead. You will draw 6 cards and place them in a rough shape of a boat. So the first two, representing the path behind and the path ahead will be placed here.” She motions that the cards will be placed next to one another. “The next two, headwind, or challenges, and tailwind, or things that will help, will be placed here.” Once again motioning to the spots the cards will be placed, tailwind placed beside path ahead and headwind placed above tailwind. “And finally the last two, guidance and destination will be placed here.” She motions for the last two cards to be placed similar to the first two on the other side of the 3rd and 4th card.

After the brief explanation she spreads the deck of cards face down on her table and motions for the woman to draw her six. “Draw the cards that speak to you, I know it may seem silly since you can’t see the faces but just trust me on this.” It was a sentence she had said to many a new or skeptical client. She waited as Sanzoku laid out the cards in their positions and then, with a deep sigh she began the reading, flipping the cards one by one as she explained the cards and their meanings. Each card clearly old and hand painted.

When she was finished, she looked up at Sanzoku, wondering what the woman thought of the information given to her. Would the reading upset her, would she be pleased? Himaru wasn’t too sure honestly.

As the others began to file into the dinning hall the tension seemed to shift and disperse a little bit, though Annalise could still tell there was something on her father’s mind. Whatever it is weighed heavy on him but he hadn’t uttered a word of it to her while they were alone. She figured she could get some information from Hana later. Her younger sister had to know something, she always did. It was as she was thinking this that Hana and Jin entered the hall together. Jin, wearing a well crafted suit of armor. Anna briefly remembered overhearing some of the guards talking about it but she wasn’t aware they had gone through with it, or that it had already been gifted. A gentle smile rested on her lips as she admired her youngest sister. She knew their father was liable to have a conniption over this, having never fully approved of Jin’s “boyish mannerisms”, but it seemed the presence of other guests and whatever else was on his mind rendered him silent, his facial expression being the key in determining his opinion. Anna knew that, if their mother was still alive, she would be proud of Jin for standing up for herself in this manner, and just knowing that made the eldest sibling smile.

“You look quite striking in that armor sister, it suits you.” She complimented her sister as she took her seat. She also nodded a greeting to Hana as she too seated herself. She could feel their father’s eyes on her, seemingly boring holes into the side of her head for daring to enable Jin’s behavior. It was a small win but one she would take nonetheless. He has raised her to be the perfect leader, it was only right that at least one of his daughters deviate from what he had planned for them, if only just a little bit. Though if she really thought about it. It was only herself that had stuck to his plan. Jin decided to learn to fight and Hana had taken it upon herself to become the spymaster she is now. Annalise was the only one who was still fully on the path her father intended, but what was she to do? The fate of the kingdom, her people, lay squarely on her shoulders after her father’s. At least until she was married to one of the Princes here. It wasn’t until now that she realized how much she truly despised this plan. She would not give up control of her kingdom so easily. Whoever married her had three options. Fight tooth and nail for control from Annalise, surrender control to her, or find a way to negotiate to make them equals. It was time to start weighing her options, even though her head was still throbbing from the night before.

Sometime during her thoughts the others had also entered the dining hall. She gave them all a polite nod but ate in silence. That was until her father began to speak.

The King watched as one by one his daughters and the suitors entered. His biggest focus being on Jin when she entered however Annalise quickly complimented her sister which resulted in the man staring at his eldest child wondering if she had supported Jin in this endeavor all along. His daughters never really truly spoke to him. Not as one would think a daughter would to a father.

As he ate silently most of the pieces of his puzzle had gathered, they were missing the Elven prince, something King Harold noticed was a trend. The Elven prince seemed to be avoiding interaction with his daughters and he couldn’t quite figure out why? Custom maybe? He couldn’t tell. Regardless he eventually cleared his throat to speak waving his hand for a man to stand beside him. This man was to translate his words to Prozdy as he had noticed the forign prince had a hard time keeping up the day before.

“Tonight is the Ball. Everyone’s attendance is required. It will be the first time the common folk see any of you together so please make sure to make a good impression. In the meantime you are free to do as you please, however I ask that you remain on the castle grounds. Should you leave you are to take a few members of the Astalian Guard with you, regardless of how many of your own men may be milling about.” After finishing his statement he stands from his seat and exits the hall, only stopping if someone wishes to speak with him before he leaves. Leaving the rest of the group to continue eating or leave as well if that is what they desired.

Himaru had more or less been absentmindedly going through the motions. Honestly she had been tallying how much she would need to replace the crystal ball Zen broke on top of being able to survive for another while without needing to open up shop. That was until a larger figure entered her field of view. The large woman from earlier had made her way to her stall and for a moment Himaru couldn’t do anything but admire the woman’s rather impressive build. She hadn’t been too close to the woman before, since she stayed a ways back from the fight until it was over, but in Himaru’s seated position the woman towered over her.

“Oh yea, I tend to only open when funds are low. Glad you could stop by.” There was a soft smile on Himaru’s face, one that was only half genuine, as Sanzoku introduced herself. “Ah, Himaru Tamaki. Yes, Zen and I are a pretty good team.” She looked back at the pokemon who was watching her and the woman in front of her carefully. Himaru was unsure if the pokemon was plotting something so she gave him a warning look before turning back at the red headed women. “So,if you want a specific reading, the cards are usually the way to go. I can get a pretty good idea from them. There are many different spreads I can choose from. The simplest is a three card reading, Past, Present, and Future. However if you are looking for some surprises or opportunities. Perhaps a six card spread would be more appropriate.” She proceeded to tell Sanzoku her pricings. “Oh but, I guess since you helped out with that…disaster. I could give your first reading for free.” Her mood shifted a bit as she mentioned the incident from earlier. “Maybe you get another one before you leave town, or whenever you make your way back at some point.” She smiled attempting to remain professional not wanting her sour mood to affect anyone else or her potential business. Though it looked like the line had since dispersed, probably heading off to do the daily work. Looks like she could do a reading for herself after Sanzoku. Himaru took the deck of cards her mother made and shuffled the worn deck in preparation. “You interested?” She questioned just to be certain.

Himaru barely noticed people were talking to her. She caught bits and pieces of Hanabi, which sounded like probably scolding her. She stood there for a moment making it seem like she was listening however she mostly just heard her own heartbeat in her ears. She knew better than to respond at the moment. She was more than a little annoyed, sure the beast was rampaging but there had to be a reason. Pokemon usually only attacked for a reason. She focused on thinking up potential reasons as to why the alpha cat had made its way to the village and what could have provoked it to attack. Most people feared pokemon, and for good reason, but if Zen, a pokemon with a horrible reputation in the wild, could live peacefully among humans, then so could the rest of them. That was her mentality at least.

She ended up standing in place stuck in thought longer than she intended and she focused in on the child who had also apparently started speaking to her. Though she had missed the first bit while she was thinking she caught the last bit about William. Her eyes narrowed at the girl. “You are new here, you know nothing about who any of us actually are.” Himaru paused, taking a deep breath to stop herself from saying something she might regret. “I have a stall to open back up, I am leaving now…” It was for the best, standing there arguing what could have been was useless. What happened, happened and there was nothing she could do about it now. Arguing certainly wouldn’t help, it would only make matters worse.

With that she walked back to her stall with the intention of opening it up again. Zen floated up to the strange girl and stared at her for a while, doing who knows what before Himaru could be heard calling for the Haunter a little ways down the road. The pokemon floated after her and excitedly circled around her as they walked back to open up the stall again. As she was opening she noticed a foreigner setting up shop nearby. She recognized him as the individual with the snow white vulpix. As much as she would have loved to walk over and speak to him, she had money to make. She placed her supplies on the counter area in front of her and waited for the first person. A line quickly formed and Himaru busied herself with the fortunes, most now seemed to involve the safety of the village and the people within. It seemed news had traveled fast about the great cat’s attack. This was just what she needed, to think about the events of the battle all day. It certainly didn’t help her mood.
