The net flew through the air; unobstructed and on target.
Joseph hadn't been able to notice it in time, and was thus unable to dodge it.

As the net began to close after hitting his back, the weights on its corners came into Joseph's field of view. Should they come sufficiently close to another, their rotational inertia would tangle up the net, preventing an easy escape from it.
However the net had no properties that interact with septima, so Joseph could simply use his frequently used gravity slingshot to push them apart before it was too late, which he successfully did.
This resulting in the net simply falling off his back shortly before he landed on the target roof, on which Joseph immedeatly took cover.

Since it would take a bit for the ground forces to get to the roof, only the VTOL in which the forces arrived presented an immedeate threat. To prepare a bit for its arrival, Joseph opened one of his suitcases to find and take out a set of boules he originally brought for entertainment.
He didn't expect them to do much against the hull of the VTOL, however they should be able to wreak havoc inside its engines, if he could get them there. Besides, some long-range projectiles are better than none.
When the law enforcement dropped in, Joseph was on the other side of the roof of the trainstation.
With none of the law enforcement landing on the roof, but simply dropping through, he guessed he was not spotted yet, giving him a bit of time to recharge even more.

A bit later Mr. Leidner heard the flashbang grenades going off, however as he was on the roof, he could not see who had thrown them, but was also protected from the bright flash. Regardless who threw them, it meant the situation either already has or will shortly escalate, which would be bad for him in any case.

Thus, Joseph began to hop from roof to roof towards his hotel using his ability to fly, emphasizing speed on the first few hops to get to a relatively safe distance. The flashbangs from another direction should also provide enough of a distraction.

If he was sure his escape was not noticed, he would stop after a couple of hops to look back and observe the scene unfold.
The shockwave of the explosion pushed Joseph forward, however he was able to regain his balance using the sudden change in momentum caused by the boat crashing onto shore. The only immedeate danger was the fire, he decided to take a bit to recharge his EP, which had gotten a bit low.

That Sumeragi forces would be arriving soon was both a curse and a blessing. They were his target, so he should get as close as possible, however Joseph had to remain able to get away too. As such, Joseph began looking for a place where he could safely watch the events to be unfold, preferably a high vantage point, such as the roof of a skyscraper, if one was sufficiently close.

In any case, staying on the wreck would not do him any good, so he pulled his luggage towards him with his septima, after he let his EP charge a bit.

While once more focussing on regaining EP, such that he could safely fly onto the roof of the trainstation, above the people trying to evacuate, Joseph noticed someone was taking pictures of the people present. He didn't like being photographed without being asked first, although now his objective also meant he should avoid being photographed, so he used his septima to move his suitcases in the way, such that his picture could not be taken.
Half a second later, he was ready to take off, and thus ascended, softly landing on the rooftop of the trainstation, while his suitcases still covered him from the view of the camera.

Once on the roof, Joseph continued looking for safe lookout points. If he found one, he would move to it; if he found none, he would continue recharging his EP and then fly towards his hotel on the quickest route possible.
Finding himself somehow losing balance, Joseph Leidner reacted by using the flight ability bestowed upon him by his septima to pull himself up the stairs, however making sure his flight path resembled normal gravity close enough to not arouse suspicion.
As the deck came into his view again, he preemptively raised his hands, shouting "I surrender!". He didn't want to endure unnecessary injury.

After he had landed and thus a good view of the deck, Joseph looked for his suitcases, using gravity slingshot to launch them into the closest(to the suitcases) divers that were not paying attention to them.

Additionally, should he find himself losing balance again, Joseph would quickly pull the suitcases towards him, to prevent them from going overboard while he was unable to look.
Noticing he could not catch all of the divers, Joseph turned his head to the side, such that the majority of what was not in his field of view was a wall on the side of the staircase he was on. He could not afford being surprise attacked from below, now that so many had stormed down there.

This allowed Mr Leidner to spot the diver trying to punch him in the corner of his eye, with his instinctive response being to duck, while attempting to push the fist above his head using gravity slingshot. However, due to the nature of being in the corner of his eyes, quickly guessing the distance was nearly impossible in the short timespan.

Should the diver's punch not connect, Joseph's momentum form pulling himself back into cover should carry him into the diver, essentially tackling them.
As he ran up the stairs, Joseph saw a bunch of divers heading in the opposite direction. In his adrenaline rush, because some of the divers didn't ignore him, he used gravity slingshot to simply push the entire group back up the stairs.
While that would alert any divers on deck, the tossed pile of divers should act as a temporary shield.

As such, when he reached the top of the stairs, he let go of his suitcases, using gravity slingshot to swing them at two of the divers he could see, while using his flight ability to cancel his momentum, and pull himself back into cover behind the stairs.
As the sound of pain reached his ears, Joseph's instincts recognized it as the screams of serious injury, despite him never having heard those sounds beforehand. As terror seeped into his mind, his thoughts raced to the conclusion he had come to earlier: get out, quickly!

However, before the adrenaline rush would force him to run for his life from whomever caused that pain down in the cargo hold, he did manage to grab his suitcases.

Aided by his adrenaline rush, Joseph ran for the nearest way to deck, forcing it open by swinging one of his suitcases into it with his arms.
The moment he fully recovered from overheat, Joseph used fly to break his fall such that the impact would not hurt him.
Once he landed, he quickly looked around for any immedeate danger, but was interrupted by the sudden acceleration of the ship.

With none of his suitcases having fallen down, he knocked away anyone who he noticed had noticed him. After that use of the gravity slingshot Joseph jumped up, using the upwards momentum in combination with his flight ability to fly back up through the hole he fell down.

While coming up through the hole, Joseph was facing where the two other divers were moving before he used his emergency skill. If they had not run off, he would knock them over with one more use of his gravity slingshot before landing on the floor, picking up his suitcases.
For that particular instance, your conditional sequencing was unclear, and the intent to enter was not made by the divers. I just didn't want to void your action, as I felt that would be unfair.

Ah, I would have preferred my action being voided, but in turn the section of the post ending once the intent to enter immedeatly not being present became clear from the diver's actions.

But in any case, this is just for future reference, as the posts in question are obv. too old to correct that.
On another note, @tobiax, I have a small complaint, namely that quite a few times players' actions were either ignored or misperformed, as far as I can tell by reading the posts. And by misperforming I am not referring to the action failing, but a different yet similar action being performed instead.

I suspect 3 causes for such events:
  • Misunderstanding: The course of action described in the player's post was not understood as intended by the player. (solution would be to make courses of actions clearer, sacrificing fluff in the process)
  • Invalid course of action: The described course of action is impossible(e.g. because an NPC behaves in a way that the player did not define a course of action for, or the player is waiting for an event that does not occur[see example]) (solution would be to cut the course of actions of involved NPCs short once the player's character would notice the behaviour that invalidates the player's described course of action, and inform the player in question of that occurrence OOC)
  • The course of action the player described is valid and possible as is, yet would end up breaking part of the plot. (solution: none/inform player in question OOC/acquire backup plot devices)

For nearly all of these occurrences, too much time has passed to do anything about them, so I just want to reduce the frequency of such events in the future. As such, I would like to inquire what the primary cause of those events it, as I am sure nobody enjoys their PC performing a course of action they did not set, if they set a course of action.

Edit: For clarification, I am not talking about instances where the time passing during a post is not enough to perform a player's course of action, resulting in later actions being cut off. Those are perfectly fine.
