Late Morning

The lazy morning dragged onwards as local folk congregated around Cornelius' stall, cautiously grabbing their groceries as they gave him odd looks, and skittering off or lingering a safe distance away to whisper among themselves as they watched him.

The boughs of the trees swayed lazily near Nibiri's garden as her fleet footed visitor paid a visit, the puffs of his pipe forming satisfying little clouds that dissipated away. Everything seemed to speak to the easy going nature of village life today. In fact, even from this distance from his Wards, Goh could tell they were quite safe racing around the market, playing whatever games children like to play. While not aware of the details, he could relax knowing they were coming to no harm. Another quiet and relaxing morning in the Hamlet.

Speaking of village younglings, one had been peeking around the corner of the library for a little while, her big green eyes gleaming with curiosity. A little out of earshot perhaps, but fascinated by the pretty lady in the purple hat and the forest man she'd seen around a few times. Big Boro was there too, and she liked him because he could make things fly like birds and sometimes he gave her fun picture books and he didn't even mind if she took a few days to bring them back. Something about that being what Lebberrys were for.

Little Lenya contemplated how to go about requesting another book. The three looked like they were doing Very Important Adult things in very Adult Conversation, so she opted for a stealth approach. She sidled up next to Saya secretly, and tugged quietly on the witches dress, attaching her little hand with all the power a 5 year old can muster and not letting go.

Meanwhile, in a little known hidey hole in the woods, the first experiment of many had started - and it appeared to be going well! The little rat twitched it's whiskers for a moment, then stood on it's hind legs, poking it's nose through the bars. Despite being fed a few moments prior, it was acting like it had never eaten anything in it's life to date. Ratty seems more then eager to wolf down as many tasty treats as possible!

The Adventurer's Guild

Throughout the plains, the ringing of an old rusty bell could be heard, originating from the north of town. It could only mean one thing.... The Adventurer's Guild was officially open and accepting new joiners!

Inside the building, Brisk creaked into an old rocking chair by the front desk, his droopy eyebrows concealing his expression.

"Jada, you've done such a great job of cleaning the place up, I'm truly grateful. It's delightful!" his voice crackled, "do you think we should put a ribbon up and cut it? Is it too late to do that? Hmm." He slowly patted down the pockets of his long robes, "I think I have some change here somewhere, to buy a nice ribbon to cut..."

@Zeroth Goh - might be surprised to learn that Nibiri seems genuinely unaware of what she's worth as a Doctor. No deception detected. However, she does seem exhausted and suspicious, though she has no Ill intent towards you.

@TimeMaster Training success! Your rat has learnt Perform: Beg very quickly and seems to take a training quite well. There are no discernable changes to it's form just yet. You think developing amorphous traits might take time. Despite being small for a Giant Rat, Ratty seems more then happy to accept any and all food coming his way, which will speed te process up.
Welcome to the forum! I hope you find something you like here. Everyone is very friendly here.
What a lovely introduction! Welcome to the guild!
@rush99999@Little Bill@Dark Cloud new post up! Also Command suggestions given in the new mechanics section are just guidelines. If you put some fruity flavour on your posts I'm not going to go "ho ho you've activated my trap card! I only accept commands of a specific case NatURe haha!" 'tis more fun this way

Midspring Year 1

SpringdawnEarly SpringMidspringSpringsleep

Fortune's Favor returns on time triumphantly, with many a tale of sandy shores and sunny weather. The market hungrily awaits the new luxuries.

@rush99999 You pass the time fishing in the Capitol's murky waters. You catch a sickly looking minnow, unsurprising as the Capitol's waters have seen better days. Perhaps the new currents lapping at the Capitol's shores will bring new fish. [+0.01 to your personal bank if sold]

@Little Bill You look for exotic birds, but most animals have been eaten during various possibly recent possibly officially didn't happen famines. You look dejectedly at the tough Capitol pigeons, whose beady eyes regard you with disdain. You invite one to sit on your shoulders, dreading tomorrow's laundry.

You are not sure where the avid bird watcher popped up from or, curiously, where he disappeared to after your one sided conversation ended. He rambled inanely about various pigeon traits for an uncomfortably long amount of time. One thing did stick with you though - he spoke of a Snow White Dove that haunted the rooftops of the Capitol on misty mornings. The Queen herself had taken a liking to it, so the stories say. Surely the one who found it would be granted good luck.

@Dark Cloud While working in the library you are approached by an impeccably dressed fellow with a fancy plumed hat. Ferdinand Rochester, aspiring untested explorer and heartthrob, strikes a suave pose in front of your charts. Satisfied you have naturally been awed by his majesty, he tells you of his suspicions about further islands. He wiggles his impeccably waxed moustache at you, divulging rumours of a land to the North.

The next day the town crier is spreading the news: Ferdinand Rochester will be accumulating sponsors for his Grand Expedition North. He will accept any donations coming his way, but anyone who pays him 3 Sovereigns* will gain exclusive rights to his charts.

New Mechanics

Selling to Market:
You can sell your goods to market wth any readable variation of the command below:
>Sell to market
In the case of The Gentleman of Fortune Company, it must be agreed by all three members when to sell. But once it has been agreed only one member needs to type the command. Then, each member immediately receives an equal share as per their contribution as per the contract (aka y'all get an equal share currently because you all put in 3 Sovereigns). Selling goods is always successful, you do not need to wait for the GM to confirm.

New Explorers:
Occasionally NPC explorers will have an inkling of new destinations and seek funding for their voyages. You can Donate to an explorers with any readable variation of the below command:
>Donate

A sufficiently large donation will guarentee that the Explorer will sell exclusive rights to their charts. The merchant who submits the biggest donation receives the charts. Just like with ships, companies can crowdfund to ensure the exclusivity target is reached. Merchants and Companies can lend, trade or create contracts for use of their charts as they wish. *In the event multiple Merchants or Companies competitively bid for the same exclusivity rights, the largest bid wins and the smaller bids are refunded.

In the case of the exclusivity target not being reached, smaller donations can still add to the likelihood of the journey succeeding. The crown looks kindly on those donating to the good of the kingdom, and these selfless endeavours may sometimes generate Royal Favor. If the exclusivity target is reached by another donator, all small donations will be refunded.

Royal Favor: It is always good to be in with the Queen. Currently, Royal Favour cannot be spent on anything, but rumours swirl of it's priceless value... What doors could this open for you in the future?

Fishing:
While waiting for ships you can pass your turn by fishing. Fishing has a chance to fail. You can fish with any readable variation of the below command:
>Fish

The type of fish available and their value is dependent on ocean currents, which is mysteriously and serendipitously linked to what islands are currently known. Curious that. This does mean that the more treacherous far flung islands can lead to strange sea monsters turning up on shore following ships home, but that kind of long term thinking is for the buffoons of the future to deal with, huzzah!

Sacred Animals:
Every Port Town is known for a Sacred Animal that grant bonuses when acquired. Hunting an animal has a chance to fail. You can discover Sacred Animals with any readable variation of the below command:
>Hunt

The exact nature of the bonuses granted by the Sacred Animal will not be known to you until a successful hunt is completed. But details of it's boons may be gleaned from rumours circulating about it.

Merchants tend to remain in the Capitol rather then risking their lives on far flung voyages. So Merchants can employ Envoys to hunt animals in their stead in various ports around the world. Some Envoys will be free, but hunting dangerous animals may incur a cost.

Man I don't think I've seen any world of darkness run on here that I can recall. It'd be really cool to see a vampires the masquerade game here. You'd probably get a good amount of interest if you did decide to launch. People tend to be nervous about unfamiliar systems but equally enthusiastic. && Probably a few people who have played before lurking around.
@Little Bill@Dark Cloud happy to proceed?

Do you crave the Merchant life? Want to see new and exciting vistas, and pillage them for all their natural resources? Ever craved showing a sea monster what for, or bopping a Pirate King on the nose with a week old rolled up newspaper?

If you desire adventure - the kind that you bankroll from the safety of your own comfy home in the capitol, in an effort to get more delightful amenities - then Risky Ventures might be the game for you!

TRADE:

Become Scrooge McDuck with a golden bathtub filled with money by acquiring resources for pittance and selling them for ridiculous prices. Strategize the best port towns where your goods are in high demand.
EXPLORE:

Find new port towns to sell your goods to, and farflung islands rich in resources. The further the island, the more valuable the goods. But beware - for long voyages are often treacherous, beset by pirates and really ugly mermaids. Bankroll eccentric explorers and inventors to procure new resources and inventions.
COLLABORATE:
Buying a ship is an expensive venture for a budding Merchant. Collaborate with fellow players to kickstart investment opportunities, acquire knowledge you can later use to generate start up funds for riskier opportunities. Become self sufficient and plan your own trade routes as you work out your best tactics.
SCHMOOZE:
Weasel your way into high society by collecting royal favour and showing off your latest and greatest goods and creations. Win over the definitely still very rich not destitute royalty with acts that grow the affluence of the Capitol. Use your influence for definitely above the board wheelings and dealings and gain unique information on various opportunities from your fancy noble Titles.

This is a very low commitment fantasy forum roleplay game that can fit around your other rps. It has a focus on collaboration and competing with your fellow Merchants, and mostly just having fun accruing lots and lots of money.

We could do with a few more players to make the mistake a bit more exciting :) while the RP has started, only one ship has left port. Plenty of opportunities await!

OOC Here
There will be opportunities to upgrade the ships with combat capacities as we go ;D

Also if everyone can say
>Wait
So I know you've all seen the post, I know there's not much to do in between turns just yet but I also don't want to bombard y'all with spam all in one go

Early Spring Year 1

Truly this was a legendary fight that whipped the cityfolk into a Fervour! After the Brass Bucketeers bowed out after a request for diplomacy, The Bass Buccaneers and Rimbo Timbo Tuppence's Thousand-Color Brigade duked it out in the Swordfight of the year. They were well matched, but in a decisive last swipe the Buccaneers stood victorious!

A few weeks hence, quite the crowd is drawn to the newly built docks. Everyone wants to say they were there when The Gentleman of Fortune's Company new ship set sail on her maiden voyage.

The queen dubs the new ship Fortune's Favor, solemnly breaking a fantastic piece of pork crackling against the hull as per ancient tradition.

With that, Fortune's Favor charts a course towards the sun. Merchants await her return eagerly - the Swordfight was quite the spectacle, and speculative Sand prices rise in anticipation of this exotic good.
