Bio

Very well, where do I begin?

My father was a relentlessly self-improving boulangerie owner from Belgium with low grade narcolepsy and a penchant for buggery. My mother was a fifteen year old French prostitute named Chloe with webbed feet.

My father would womanize, he would drink. He would make outrageous claims like he invented the question mark. Sometimes he would accuse chestnuts of being lazy. The sort of general malaise that only the genius possess and the insane lament.

My childhood was typical. Summers in Rangoon, luge lessons. In the spring we'd make meat helmets. When I was insolent I was placed in a burlap bag and beaten with reeds - pretty standard, really. At the age of twelve, I received my first scribe. At the age of fourteen a Zoroastrian named Vilma ritualistically shaved my testicles.

There really is nothing like a shorn scrotum... it's breathtaking. I highly suggest you try it.

And yet I just can't seem to stop inventing new ways to kill those damned parents. I'm worse than Warner Bros.

Just when I deleted it all.

If it makes you feel any better, my Batman backstory was super barebones, and now I'm gonna have to rewrite it from scratch to make things a bit clearer. So I screwed myself as much as anyone. :P

So Minimum One, Maximum Four? Strictly Four? Or Minimum Four? Sorry to be a pain, just want to be sure I understand.

Maximim Four, Minimum One. If you want to leave things close to the chest, that's your perogative. I've got no issue with that.
Just a heads up, I'm changing the backstory requirement in the app from one paragraph to four, just to give people more freedom to flesh out their characters. I wanted to curttail the more masturbatory nature that these applications lend themselves to, but given that this is a Year One game that encourages straying from the beaten path, it might be beneficial to enforce the rule but in a looser sense to help people establish differences in how their characters got to where they are.
I was only literally just informed of what they were, and no. That doesn't sound like something nessescary for this game.
What's the acceptable extent when it comes to crossover stuff? F'rinstance, if I were to incorporate the Inhumans into the backstory of Krypton, or say that Asgard was bottled up by Brainiac or something like that, which might preclude other people's ability to use a character or a major mythos in a way they want. Essentially, where do we draw the line between 'mixing it up' and 'stepping on toes?'

I would say be cautious. That stuff vaguely sounds fine, but I'd also say keep it vague and don't make it a huge thing that impacts bigger mythologies. As I said in the first post, consult the player characters. Maybe try and limit the crossover stuff in the backstories themselves. My Batman has no overlap, honestly, just because it felt too cheap to have Bruce have trained in Wakanda or whatever.
Also, I counted at least 9 interested not including myself, and that's only within a few hours. I think this is safely a-go for launch.

OOC thread'll be up Friday or Saturday, so you all have time to work up some apps.
I may be interested in this. Seeing as how I have the appropriate name and avatar, Tony Stark seems to be the logical choice. His story from the MCU could pretty much be the same - kidnapped, built a suit to escape, and now spends time refining the design. (Obviously would not confirm being Iron Man to the press for some time. Early stages.)

Thoughts?

Go as far as you want to and don't be afraid to play around with the concept, is what I'd suggest. But everything is completely and entirely up to the player. I'm doing things with Batman that I think will be different enough to make him a unique animal, but I'd be lying if I said he wouldn't still be recognizably Batman.
That charmer.
Throwing my own hat in for The Dark Knight detective.

I know there's already interested parties out there for GL and Superman, aswell.
