Good thing they locked that High Casual Rant thread because I was on the verge of making it a Spider-Man thread.

Two months later, my Hunger Games BNR (But Not Really) RP is actually ready to launch. Still room for like ten people. Just waiting on character submissions now.

I have a Deviantart account for my art now. Please don't go to Deviantart if you don't have to. It makes me sad that there will always be a furry version of literally anything you create and it will always look better.

OMG I LOVE THIS IDEA!!! Please do it! I'm not a super fan of the Hunger Games but enjoyed the series and think this is a great way to play it out! :D

Okay.

"Hilarity ensues"

I'm in

Excellent. Tag some friends. At least one event is "Player1 works with Player2 to drown Player3" and the best part is the OOC grief. Which reminds me, grief/whining/laughing is all part of the fun. Feel free to do that OOC.

Lol this totally won't come back to bite me in the bum at ALL.

Put me down for the bitchy girl from District 2, except her name will be.....

Gladly. Looking forward to you drowning in a frozen lake, because that can happen.

this series is no longer relevant

Cheers.

Is this... Hunger Games: Not-So-Serious Edition? If so I'm in, that sounds fantastic xD

It's almost a party game, with enough room to make a half-decent RP. It all depends on how serious you want to take it. You can get super into it or just wait around to see who won without impacting anyone else. I've never tried it as an RP but I think it will be excellent.

Yes, the Hunger Games series is ten years old. Bear with me anyway.

What the heck is this?

This RP is based entirely on an extremely clever Hunger Games text simulator by BrantSteele. Essentially, you insert the names, genders, and districts of up to 24 players and hit "Proceed." The game comes with dozens of events for each time period (Bloodbath, Day, Night, Feast, and Arena), separated into Lethal and Non-lethal encounters. Each player is randomly assigned one of these events and the results are posted in a list. The events can be modified to be anything, but most are based entirely on things you would find in the Hunger Games.

What makes this worth playing?

For one, you don't have to like the Hunger Games to enjoy this. Doesn't matter if you've watched the movies or read the books. Read the synopsis of the first book on the Wikia for the context and you're good to go. Screw the lore.

The main reason, though, is that it can either be very intense or absolutely hilarious. It moves fast, it has almost zero continuity (one turn you find a knife, the next turn you kill someone with a molotov), and I can decide how fast or slow it moves, which means no waiting around for a week BECAUSE THAT ONE PERSON WON'T FREAKIN' POST ALREADY. Thanks to everything being randomly determined each time period, I can post a new event either weekly or daily without conflicting posts. Deaths are permanent, but since rounds move quickly (if I post daily, it will be over in a week or two), you can rejoin in the next one. I will restart the game as often as people are interested. If you die, no worries. Hang out, enjoy your other RPs, and come back when a new round kicks off.

Also, since the game moves at my own pace and events are randomly generated, you can just sit back and watch what happens. Posting is encouraged, obviously, but if you are just here for the humor, you don't have to post at all. No one will get kicked and no one will be held back by a lack of posts FROM THAT ONE PERSON.

So why is this in Casual?

Because, since all events are predetermined, players can write out how they occurred. Your character searched for fresh water? Write two or three paragraphs about your character doing that. You and someone else teamed up to murder another person? Two or three about that happening. You died? Paragraph or two about your last moments alive. You don't have to worry about conflicting with other people, nor do you have to worry about the GM keeping track of everyone and everything. Each post is two or three paragraphs based on predetermined events. It literally does not get any simpler than that. Heck, you could just use this as a writing prompt to improve yourself. Ideally, everyone will be posting, but the RP will continue at a steady pace, so try to stay on track.

Alright, so what do I need for the CS?

Name, gender, District number.

No seriously, that's all you need...to participate. The CS has slots for age, appearance, bio, and personality, and I would expect everyone to fill in those blanks, but don't stress out over it because your character could die immediately. Thanks to the magic of RNG, stats are irrelevant. No leveling, no inventory, no skills. Again, if you're just in it for the humor, you can get away with just posting the first three slots. If you want to join but a game is already going on, just post your CS OOC and I'll tag you when the next game begins.

Are you seriously going to wait for 24 people to join?

Nope. I'm going to wait for at least eight. 12 minimum would be ideal, since I could have at least one person from every District, but I doubt I'll get that many. I plan to launch it in a week if it gets enough interest, so spread the word! Get your friends involved! Watch the simulator murder you both!

EDIT: I'd forgotten that you cannot start a game unless you have 24 names. I will counter this by letting people submit, for now, up to two character sheets. Any blank spaces will be filled in with something silly, like the name of the mods here or "A puppy" or something

And that's pretty much it. Questions, comments, complaints that this series is no longer relevant?

EDIT: Because I am dumb, I accidentally already made an OOC. However, I would like discussion to continue here for now until enough people have applied for an actual game.

It was unlikely that the Boss realized just how close he came to engaging the undefended men in front of him. The unit of men in front of them may have lowered their guard, falling just as quickly under its power as the rest of the group, but they were still considered an enemy force. They were soon joined by five more, one giving off the appearance of authority. They didn't appear to be any better equipped that the others, but the party was now outnumbered three to one. It really did not matter whether they were influenced by magic or not. Ruben had already returned to a shooting stance, his finger resting just outside the trigger guard. He adjusted his aim to focus on the newly arrived leader. One of the most effective tactics in combat is to eliminate the figure of authority quickly. This was no exception. The Boss's order may not have contained the word "fire" but the soldier was prepared to consider it a technicality at this point. His breathing slowed and his index finger placed the slightest bit of pressure on the trigger.

Something moved.

Ruben's eyes flickered to the side, checking the whirl of color in his peripheral vision. It was followed soon after by war cries and, to his surprise, laser fire. Colored beams streaked by them, burning holes in the snow and slicing limbs off of trees. They didn't appear to be associates with the first group of enemies, unless they were prone to firing indiscriminately at anything that moved. Everyone took cover. Ruben paused for a moment, turning to analyze where his teammates were moving. The blue-haired songstress was flat on the ground. The other two were heading for tree cover. The Boss was behind a large rock. The new enemy force was armed with ranged weapons, meaning anyone could be engaged at any time. Ruben selected a low slab of rock situated in the center of the field, withing throwing distance of the patch of trees being used as cover, as the best position. Ignoring the hiss of enemy fire as it smashed into the landscape around him, he sprinted hard for the rock, diving over it and spinning around to lay flat on his stomach. He slid forward and planted his body against it, taking a moment to slow his breathing, then glanced over the top.

Twenty men, clothed in leather and rawhide and armed with projectile energy weapons. They were even less well-defended than the previous force, which had since taken cover behind everything and anything they could find. He ducked back behind cover, then raised the rifle and fixed the scope on the nearest of them, allowing the optic to do the math. He decided to cut the necessary ammunition back to one per target. Assuming his aim was good, he wouldn't even need to reload.

Three laser rounds whizzed past him, followed by the crack of what sounded like an old rifle. His team was returning fire. Ruben readjusted his aim, focusing instead on the farthest target and letting the hit percent rise. A laser round clipped the edge of his cover, incinerating a small chunk of the stone. He dropped back for a moment, then raised himself to a kneeling stance. The crosshairs reappeared and the rifle hard locked onto the farthest of them. Another one crossed in between them, giving Ruben a lovely opportunity to hit two targets at once. He took a breath, then squeezed the trigger, sending five rounds downrange in a faction of a second. He dropped back behind his cover immediately and scanned the rest of his team for injury. It was unlikely that the trees they were behind would outlast more than one good hit. Thinking quickly, Ruben unlatched the smoke grenade from his belt and watched the treeline. If anyone lost their cover, he could use it to disguise their position, allowing for movement to a better vantage point or retreat if necessary.

But he wasn't going to use it without orders.

KRISS MAUSER

LOCATION: NEW RIVER

TIME: WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON

"Right, you're good to go. I'll be around. Lemme know whe-"

The man at the marina docks was cut off as Kriss gunned the engines, backing the rescue vessel into the river and making a hard turn. There was a moment of silence as the boat shifted out of reverse, but it was drowned out almost immediately by Kriss throttling forwards. The twin turbo diesel motors churned through the waters, launching them out into the river well beyond shouting distance. The marina worker scowled, muttering an insult under his breath as he returned to his station to finish a sandwich. He had no problem helping the SCVRS launch their boat. He was a retired crew member himself. But that was no excuse to be rude. With a last grumble, he sat down in his desk chair and placed his boots on his desk.

The radio at his desk crackled to life.

"Copy that. We'll be back before sundown. Over."

"Keep them life jackets on. Station out," he replied, sliding his radio away to make room for a can of soda. Kids these days.

The boat cruised along the shoreline. Allison had taken a seat up front, diagonal to Kriss's command position. She looked over the miniature screen and wired radios at her station. She had a lovely aerial view of her position on the river, but the buttons and pads were completely foreign. At least the radio handsets resembled the ones in the ambulance. At least one of them connected to the receiver at the squad building. She had, as instructed, left her phone in the cab of the truck, so this would be her only means of communication to the rest of the world.

"Command to boat one, what is your status, over?" a familiar voice called through the speakers. Ally looked back at Kriss.

"Can I answer it? It's the large button on the side of the handset, right?" Allison yelled. The diesel jet motors were far louder than she had expected, and, at full speed, it was impossible to communicate without shouting.

Kriss nodded. Allison snapped the handset from its clip and held it up to her mouth.

"We're doing great! We're on the river right now. I dunno exactly where, Kriss hasn't taught me what all these buttons do yet. Over!"

"Come on Kriss, I expected more from you, over," Snap replied, pretending to sound disappointed. Kriss picked up his own handset, choosing to ignore the scolding.

"We're heading down to Costa Bridge. The water is a bit more shallow there. Over."

"Ally, you wearing a life jacket? Over," Snap called. Allison patted the heavy orange zip-up jacket and nodded, forgetting for a moment that Snap couldn't see her. Slapping a palm to her head, she clicked the radio back on.

"Yes, Snap, I am wearing a life jacket, and so is Kriss. I think we'll be okay. Over!"

"Sounds good to me. Keep me informed. Command out."

Before long the boat slowed to a crawl. Kriss listened to the engines hum for a moment, then switched them off. He motioned for Ally to get up and follow him to the back of the boat. She jumped up, then immediately sat back down, her hands clutching the seat.

"Whoa. I think I'm gonna need a minute."

Kriss nodded. Standing on a boat in the water is a completely new experience, and this was her first time out on the water. Using the other seats and handrails, she made her way to the back, hanging onto a guide rail. She released the rail, trying to steady herself on her feet, then fell back against the rail. Kriss waited patiently as she adjusted her feet and released the rail again. He gave her some pointers, but ultimately she figured it out on her own. The instant she was comfortable he began training.

"Let's start off with inventory again. Where are the First Aid kits?"
