I'm definitely down for this!
Yeah, it's fine if we stretch out the scene.
Jin was surprised that the room looked somewhat lived in already. Maybe this wasn’t a new student, but someone who had been here before. She picked up a game at random and peered at it. There was a yellow haired guy with an impossibly large, unwieldy looking sword on the front cover. “Last Fable 7?” She didn’t have a video game system of her own. Training took up a lot of time, for one, and she preferred to focus her mind on other hobbies in her downtime, like building things. Besides, some video games had a lot of reading, leaving her somewhat bored when there wasn’t action on the screen.

A swear came from behind her, and Jinny tensed, turning to find the source. Her stomach dropped.

“...oh, for fuck’s sake. You?” Jinny set the game down and folded her arms, immediately on the defensive. Her eyes narrowed, a little scowl twisting her face. “I thought I was having a good day.” She huffed a little sigh, looking back at the door that Slade had left from. Was it too late to switch rooms?

No, no. If she couldn’t handle this on her own, how was she going to manage the rest of the school yea? She would consider this her first challenge. Her first battle against a real opponent.

“Listen. Just – don’t touch any of my shit, you jinx.” She let that sink in for a split second before continuing. “Yeah, I’ve heard of you, and what you do. I should probably be impressed, but you’re way too annoying for that. So leave me alone, and I’ll leave you alone. If you don’t, you’re gonna find out what someone with real power can do.”

Nevermind that this Jinx girl had actually killed people. Even if it was an accident, that was still impressive. No, Jin had to make her stand here and now. Otherwise she’d just be a coward, and she wasn’t having that. “Got it?”
Jinayah watched quietly as her father and sister made their exits. Anna was lying; for what reason she did not know. She knew Sulhana would see through it just as fast, but hopefully the princes would not. It was just a touch rude for the crown princess to break a promise so easily. Maybe Anna wasn’t feeling well. Or maybe she just wanted some peace and quiet before the ball.

While part of her wanted to join her eldest sister in the library, away from prying eyes, Jin felt that she had to do something to appease what could be an awkward situation. “Prince Erick. I was actually planning on doing some riding myself, this afternoon. Since you may be unoccupied, I would be honored if you would join me.” Her new armor needed some breaking in, and her horse would need some time to get used to the new weight. Plus, she had caught the prince peeking out of the corner of her eye. He might be brave enough to ask questions instead of just talk behind her back.

She sipped at her fruit juice, addressing the rest of the table. “I hope everyone had a restful night, after my dear sister’s party?”
Awesome!
Can I play a human adopted by a dwarf family?
Devika and her parents cheered as Roxy knocked down the pins on the third try. “That was awesome, Roxy!” She hadn’t expected her friend to be so good at that. When Roxy said she could choose the prize, she beamed. “If you insist, I won’t ask twice. I’ll take… this one!” She pointed at a large plush cat hanging up on the wall at the back of the game booth.

The man running the booth handed it over, and Devika gave it a firm squeeze. Plushies were decent substitutes for the people she couldn’t hug. “Let’s see what other games they have.” She was aware that a lot of them were money traps, but that didn’t mean they weren’t fun. There was a goldfish catching game, a booth with a “certified” tarot reader, and many other games of skill and chance in the rows.

“Where to next?”
Kijani felt her heart leap as Adam kissed her back. She leaned into his broad chest, her arms around his neck. She almost felt lightheaded. Though that could have been from not knowing how to breathe suddenly. He loved her. She loved him. For a moment, everything in the universe was perfect.

Unfortunately, that moment was very fragile. Eskel’s voice shattered it like a pane of sugar glass. She pulled away and turned guiltily, Adam’s taste still warm on her lips.

“Oops.” She could feel her face burning. Embarrassment made her flinch slightly, but after a moment of thought, she squared her shoulders and looked him in the face. There would be more than enough questions with her marrying a commoner. She would not being embarrassed that she’d followed her heart. So she simply spoke as if nothing was wrong. Because it wasn’t. “Yes, you’re right, Prince Eskel. We need to put together a battle plan. What can you tell us about the layout of the palace?”

Kassandra split from the group without a word. She had taken the rest of her mission prep time to quickly dye and flat iron her hair. One minor illusion later, and she was a dark-skinned, green eyed redhead. Victor had been surprisingly generous in lending her one of his own hoodies, and she was wearing that and a pair of jean shorts that were chafing her thighs. A pair of false lensed glasses completed the look.

One of the upgrades made to her weapon of choice had been something to make it more portable. On a truly covert mission like this one, she couldn’t very well walk around with a giant golden staff. With a few more runes carved in, it had been temporarily shrunk to the size of a microphone. It was neatly tucked away under the back of the hoodie, where she could reach it easily. Kassy knew they had done other things, but she didn’t know exactly what they were.

She wandered the center aimlessly with her eyes downcast, letting her ears absorb bits and pieces of conversation. So far, it all sounded normal enough. Chatting about other people, today’s lunch, rumors, tv shows. It all seemed so average. Some of them looked at her, but when she didn’t make eye contact, they left her be.

The summer heat was making her a touch ill, even indoors, so she found herself wandering to the cafeteria for a bottle of water. She saw Aleen’a getting stared at by one of the center teens, and decided to make a wide berth. They weren’t really supposed to know each other, after all. That, and she wasn’t sure that she was the best person to be around the empathetic Tamaranean.

She snagged two bottles of water from a small drink station, and sat at a random cafeteria table, just observing.

“Hey.” A voice startled her out of her spying. There was a girl at the table, dressed all in black. A black long-sleeved shirt, long black skirt, and very tall black shoes. Her hair was dyed a rich obsidian, though Kass could just barely see brown roots peeking from her scalp. The girl even had black makeup. It was a look that Kass hadn’t seen before. Interesting.

“You must be new here.”

Kassy shrugged vaguely. That was their cover story, after all. “...how’d you guess?”

“This is my table. No one sits here.”

“...oh.” She blinked, making to rise up. “I’ll leave.”

“Nah. No big.”
The girl shrugged just as loosely as Kassy had. “Just know that you’re probably already ruining your reputation just by sitting here.”

Kassy frowned, genuinely confused. “...my… I’m sorry, what?”

The girl leaned forward. “Y’see. No one likes me here. They think I’m a weirdo.”

“Oh.” Kass stared off, then tipped her head. “Being metahumans, isn’t everyone a weirdo?”

Was that a smile on the girl’s face? Kassy wasn’t sure. “Yeah, you’d think. But somehow, people like me always get left on the sidelines.”

“Yeah?” That sparked Kassy’s attention. “I understand. You’ve got this power you never asked for, and everyone hates you for it. And you’d do anything just to be rid of it.”

“Shit. You do understand.” The girl sounded a little stunned. “...I’m Raquel.”

“Eveline.” Kassy offered a hand, but Raquel balked, leaning back.

“Sorry. I can’t really touch people. I’m poisonous.”

“You’re literally poisonous?”

“Yep. My pores exude a kind of neurotoxin. Or at least that’s what they told me. So… people stay away.” A defeated sort of sigh escaped her. “All the others said they’re waiting for me to ‘go villain’. Like my power automatically makes me evil or something.”

“…” Kassy lifted her eyebrows. And then, for the first time in a while, she smiled. “Well. We might have lot to talk about.”
That sounds like fun.
