Akane is looking pretty good so far, although I do have a question as to why choose to be a mercenary. She is really well made and seems to fit as an archeologist and such but going in as a merc may give you the chance to study some ruins but most jobs would be like "protect a caravan, clear out some bandits, ect. But yeah otherwise she is looking good.

That's a good question, and I think I'd interpreted the premise as putting more of a focus on exploring the ruins themselves than you intended. I left the Umbrists fairly open-ended to give myself some room to adjust things, so now they're more of a mysterious-but-benevolent organization that does a variety of humanitarian work, with archeology and exploration being only one facet. Tryliin's been on their radar due to the violence and corruption on its surface, and got a bump in priority due to the ruins attracting their science arm's interest as well. Akane's there to keep tabs on it and has authorization to get involved in humanitarian work while she's down there.

The final two sections are now filled out as well.

† I don't like using "race" here. It's inaccurate and has some surprisingly ugly history to it, too.

I should have an application ready to go by tonight as well!
...and writing the opening post is even harder. I mean, where do you even start? Probably not like this, but, eh, putting my best foot forward's another of those things I never did get the hang of. Just ask any interviewer ever.

Anyway, hello there! I'm Naomi, a software developer from Vermont, USA; I'm 29 and use she/her pronouns. For the past threeish years of my life, I've sunk a lot of my life into indie game dev, and (re?)discovered a love of creative writing through it. So, here I am! While I'm not a total neophyte when it comes to roleplay, it's not something I've done seriously since I was a cringey teenager, and writing game dialogue doesn't give you much opportunity to practice descriptions, so there are definitely areas I hope to hone my skills.

I'm a huge fan of sci-fi, if the link up above didn't give it away. Nothing fires me up quite like the image of humans and aliens wrapped in tons of spinning metal, all alone in the night. Firefly, Farscape, and Babylon 5 are huge influences on me, and I've more recently picked up The Expanse, so I think it's fair to say that I lean towards the cynical end of the spectrum. That said, let it never be said that I stick to a single - well, anything, really, but genre, here. More than anything, I like weird.

As for what I'm looking for out of a roleplay, I'm honestly not sure yet. I know I care more about characters than plot, that I like exploring emotional themes and slow-burn romances, and that I like interpersonal drama and grit. (I like to feel like the characters earn their successes, y'know? No shade on people who enjoy such things, of course, but to me, something that's too easy feels hollow. That goes for character growth just as much as success at their actual mission.) I wish I could say I'm the kind of person who can write out an eight-paragraph novella each post, but I'm nowhere near there yet. I guess I want to try things out and get some practice under my belt. If you know of a game that you think I'd be a good fit for, or want to set something up with me, drop me a line! I only bite with permission, I promise.
