Bart listened with a bemused smile as The Watch listed what he could and could not be called, ending on the funny note of his resemblance to a certain Starfleet captain. "So Professor Xavier's on the table then?" He asked jokingly. It certainly would fill out the Xmen vibe he was getting with this group. Shaking his head with a chuckle, he said, "It's nice to meet you Giosue." Bart started following along as Gio led him out of the room, letting him know the specifics of the task ahead of them. He raised an eyebrow in surprise at the details brought to his attention. He hadn't realized Alicia actually had left, but hey, it sounded like a cool adventure to head out on in any case. Maybe doing some kind of mission like this would kick start whatever kind of abilities he might have. His eyes looked up to Gio as he reminded him to keep vigilant. He nodded eagerly, trying to keep up his calm and logical facade, but very clearly excited at the chance to go on his first mission.

He gave a hmm at Gio's question of him needing anything, and was going to shake his head, wanting to go out and start as soon as possible, but paused when he heard the location. Cairo was bound to be beautiful, but dry as a bone for sure. He'd just had dinner though, having soup, and a glass of water there, he'd probably be okay. He continued to shake his head, "I'm sure I'll be fine, hopefully we won't be there too long, right?" He asked. Even as he spoke, this felt surreal. It didn't feel like it made any sense, them just talking about casually going to Cairo. He did continue to ask however, "When are we arriving though? Will it still be 1940?" He questioned, realizing he couldn't take the time staying the same as a given any more.

As they neared the edge of the dining room, his name was called out by Gilbert, just in time for him to see a full suit be pulled out of the piece of head-wear. He laughed out lough, his mouth agape in awe, While not the most impressive thing he'd seem out of the man, it still was magical to watch. He hurried back towards his seat, and grabbed for the new suit, taking a long look at it, and reaching into the hat to further examine the pocketwatch. "Nice. You have good taste Gilbert." He said, his voice breathy, clearly excited. He'd always wanted a good suit, but never quite had the spare money to invest in one. This was something he really did appreciate. He gave a look over to Gio, saying, "I'm gonna head up to my room and change into this, where should I meet you?" He asked, bouncing in his shoes a bit. While he was back at the table though, he quickly poured himself some more water, drinking it while waiting for a response.

Adalene smiled, "Black's the way to go." She nodded, and stepped back into the kitchen to grab two mugs, resting them on the table in front of her. She heard Crystal thank her, and smiled, before looking back towards her. "It's really not a problem, don't sweat it." She reassured. It'd have been fun to visit her partner, but that wasn't something she was gonna push for. "Good things have a tendency to come back at you, ya know?" She said. Karma wasn't something she believed in that much, but it did make sense that being a good person made people more inclined to be good to you.

Adalene herself, however, was a bit hungry still, even if her gues wasn't. She ducked into her fridge quickly, and grabbed an orange out of it. She began to peel it, kicking the door closed before her. As she peeled, she stood near her garbage, dispensing pieces into it. Once she was done, she tore out a piece, and plopped it into her mouth. "So," She said, chewing as she spoke, "Where do you tend bar?" Hey, maybe she could at least get a few free drinks out of this.

Bartholomew was a little surprised by Evelina redirecting him, informing him he needed to go with the bald Emendator, Gio. He shrugged, and didn't think arguing with her on this would be helpful, or end well for him, so he rolled with it. "Well, I guess I am." He said, flashing a smile over to The Watch, standing up in kind, dabbing a napkin to the corner of his mouth, before resting it on his plate. It'd be nice to get a chance to get to know Gio, he supposed. He figured Gio was referring to Alicia, who was the only one he'd met that was missing. Looking around the estate would be pretty boring, but it probably wouldn't last that long. He strolled up to Gio, ready to go and look whenever he was.

Bart briefly eyed Evelina, wondering why she choose him to accompany The Watch. A paranoid voice in his head said it was something to do with that fact that he was powerless, perhaps Evelina wanted to talk to the real paradoxes without him, or something to that effect. He did his best to ignore it, but he was pretty downtrodden about being left behind in this respect. He quickly averted his eyes, looking for something to rest his gze at, and settling on Gio. "I don't think we've met yet, by the way." He said to him. Bart thought for a moment, thinking he might be the one who deposited Sophia in the Kitchen House earlier, but he was unsure. "Name's Bart, as I'm sure you heard." He said, softly, feeling a tiny but awkward in front of everybody. He motioned his head towards the door, figuring they should be off about now.

Adalene felt a little glum when she was denied the opportunity to kick some ass, but she supposed that was alright. The last thing she needed was an assault charge on her record. "I'll make you some coffee then, too early for day drinking." She said, with a snarky smile. "You're better than that, believe me." She then stepped away and towards the kitchen. She actually did have some nice coffee, and with the way today had been, she could go for a nice drink. Grabbing some beans from the cupboard, she measured and dispensed them into a grinder, before pulsing a little, and getting a kettle to fill. She opened it up and placed it in the sink, letting water from the facet flow into it. Shortly after, she placed it on the stove, and turned on the heat. Adalene poked her head into the room and said ," By the way, how do you take it?" She asked. She preferred black coffee herself, since when she drank it she wanted to actually taste coffee.

She prepared a filter, and set it up, pouring the grounds into it and placing it over a coffee pot. "It'll be a little while for the water to boil. But coffee should be up soon." She said, stepping back into the living room, and leaning against the wall. "About ten minutes." She didn't know quite what to do with the girl around, but she had too much free time today anyway, and it was nice not be be alone. "You're not hungry at all? I suppose I could throw some food together too." She wouldn't blame her if her break up had ruined her appetite, but she might as well try.

Bartholomew's eyes followed Miss Lukas, seeing where Alexandra went. He nodded a bit, seeing yet another person finally get their powers. He paused and thought, "Am I the only one who hasn't had anything yet...?" His eyes looked to each of the paradoxes around him,"Teleportation, Storm, invisible thingy, Exploding head syndrome, pig man." He tagged each of them in his head, before landing back on himself. Yup, he was the only one left being a normal human so far. Of course, somebody would have had to been, but it sucked that it had to be him. He knew it was dumb, but there was a level of exclusion he felt from this. He tried to push back and get over that, but still, now he seemed like the odd one out.

Bart shook his head, and grimaced, He didn't really want to spend a ton of time around tourists, and didn't have too much in the way of stories. Up until today, he had a pretty boring life. Then he got an interesting idea. While he hadn't done many interesting things, he certainly had read many, many great stories, some of which hadn't been written yet. If it was scary stories they wanted, he didn't mind the idea of bootstrapping the idea of dementors. Potential paradoxes aside, that sounded pretty fun, and Eve did say that anachronisms like that had a way of sorting themselves out.

Eve had asked them to pair up with an Emendator, and he was split on who to join up with. On one hand, he felt a bit comfortable with The Hat, having already met and spent some time with him, but he knew he'd need to meet up with the others eventually. He'd already spent some time with Sophia, and had no idea about Nancy. He knew that a few of them would need to double up anyway, so he chirped up, "I wouldn't mind joining Nancy either." He said, looking over to her and waving, "If that's alright with Sophia that is." He quickly tacked on.

Adalene laughed, "See, sounds fun." She said. She then paused, and corrected herself, "Or well, interesting at least. I could never be bored with a job like that. Though I might get a littleee uncomfortable." She admitted. "So, in the mean time, how are you gonna get your stuff back?" She asked with a twinge of concern. She didn't want her ex to just get to keep all her stuff. And she was itching to meet this guy and get his side of the story, so she kinda wanted to offer to go get her stuff. She wasn't about to suggest that though, that'd be a bit too weird, and she didn't want to stress her out.

Adalene then tacked on, "By the way, are you hungry or anything? I could make something for you if you like." She offered. The more comfortable the girl got, the more Adalene might be able to learn more about her. It was certainly more interesting than anything else she might do while Crystal was here. Plus she could eat more than she already did, even if she shouldn't necessarily. She stood up, and leaned against the doorway to the kitchen, stretching her legs a bit in the process.

Bartholomew was happy to casually converse with the other paradoxes, though keeping away from the liquor. Drunkenness didn't suit him, and what everybody was drinking wasn't exactly the best tasting. Soon enough, Lady Lucas came and informed them all of what he already knew. He could only meet her words with a solemn look, almost apologetic. Death was hard, and not something he was used to dealing with or being around, so he kept his mouth shut for once in his life. This did worry him though, they mentioned that death was a possibility in their role here, but nevertheless, somebody actually dying brought a level of realness to that, and that terrified him.

On a normal day, Bart would have gone for a run to clear his head and try to sort out what was going on, but he felt that that could be disrespectful to the funeral proceedings going on. Instead, in the ensuing hours, he retreated to his room, and grabbed the copy of the Great Gatsby he found in his room earlier. He then laid back on his bed, and tried to clear his thoughts best that he could. He felt like he could cry again if he wanted to, but he knew he wouldn't survive long if every prolonged interaction with these people resulted in sobbing. He gripped his book, and started to read. In a way, this was his way of transplanting himself away from the world he was currently in, giving him the reprieve he needed.

He eventually left the room, his stomach crying out for food. It'd be easier to stay up here, hidden away in his room, but that wouldn't be healthy. He forced himself to take care of himself, and made note of his page number, lacking a bookmark and not wanted to dog ear a classic. He rested the book on his bed, and went downstairs to the kitchen, coming in on Evelina explaining that people from town would be coming in later tonight. It surprised him that they were fine with interacting with, for lack of a better word, mundane people. He thought there'd be some temporal risk in some way, but hey, they'd been doing this much longer than he had. The idea of making themselves into an urban legend was honestly a bit surreal, and he didn't know if he'd have a hand in that or not.

Quickly taking his seat, he listened in when they discussed starting combat training, and was quite intrigued when The Hat professed they they all might have combative abilities. Bart doubted this, specifically as far as his own capacities went. But even still, he didn't know what abilities he'd been gifted with yet. For all he knew, he could shoot lasers out of his eyes, or explode people'd heads with his mind, which, in all fairness, would make him a decent physical threat. He was, however, fairly confident he'd get a handle of hiding in plain sight. He felt that soft skills like that, which had always been his bread and butter, could easily continue into this new life.

He was briefly concerned when The Hat began choking, and almost got up to see if he could help in any way, not knowing the Heimlich himself. He was relieved, and slightly grossed out, when he dislodged the bit of food stuck in there. He continued to become more concerned, however, when Alexandra straight up stopped existing. A look of shock came across his face, hoping whatever just happened could be chalked up as an ability manifesting, "Um. Alexandra?" He called out concern ringing through his voice, unsure if she'd just come invisible, or if something horrible had happened. He gave a worried look between the Emendators, hoping they'd take charge and explain what had happened.

Adalene paused for a moment, "I honestly hadn't considered it." She said, with a bit of a shrug. "Maybe, I'll probably finish up my education here before I branch out of NYC, or at least that's my plan." New York was the place for the theatrical arts after all. "But bar tending must be interesting at least, right?" She asked. Of all the menial jobs, that had to be one of the best. All the people she must meet, sure people got drunk and sucked sometimes, but people were so interesting. She couldn't imagine a life as a cashier, or a dishwasher, the monotony would kill her.

"I actually think I might even enjoy that a little." She said, smiling pleasantly. While she had aspirations of grandeur, she found it easy to fantasize about a simple life. Just doing what needs to be done to get by, having something just fun enough to keep her interested, but never exhausted. She knew the world wasn't really like that, so she kept herself from falling too deep into that hole. But it was at least, pretty fun to think about. She curled up into a comfortable little ball on the couch and said , "Hmm. What's the most interesting thing you've seen while working?" She asked.

As Bart knocked back the last of his drink, Alicia pushed forward with the drinking game. He shook his head, binge drinking wasn't at all what he needed right now. A drink could make him feel better, but many would certainly not. He did however, have a light buzz that made his cheeks redden a touch. He laughed along with Alicia, responding, "Okay okay, that was a little silly of a question." He conceded, playfully putting his hands up. He placed his glass down on the counter, considering if one more would be too much. He didn't want to start spiraling, and it was at this point he remembered something he'd heard in his college years. Nobody ever regrets not having one more drink. He felt a lot better now though, and he knew that if there was one thing he couldn't do, it was handle his liquor.

What he was not expecting,w as to get a much more serious answer from The Hat, and his eyes bounced in surprise. He did find it interesting that he described them receiving a purpose. He assumed that was just their way of marketing ... whatever it was they'd be doing for them. He furrowed his brow, unable to remember exactly how they'd described it. He didn't particularly want to focus on it though, and so he didn't. He was a tad surprised at The Hat joining in on the drinking, thinking he might be of the more levelheaded variety, but he supposed the death of somebody close to him was a perfectly good reason to drink. Bart spared a passing glance over to Alexandra when she stuck her tongue out, he giggled with her, sticking his tongue out in kind. She was a crazy one, but seemed pretty interesting too.

Adalene nodded, not surprised her suspicion was correct. "Well, I go to school most of the year." She said casually, "I study acting." She explained, trying not to sound like too much of a cliche. "I've been working this past summer as an extra for a production of Avenue Q." She said proudly, knowing it was no small feat. She smiled a bit, before continuing, "I've been involved in Theater since I was a kid, so I'm kinda living the dream, ya know?" It really was amazing, not only being able to do what she loved, but also general feeling of independence she'd had recently.

"So what about you?" She asked, Other people's lives were pretty interesting to her. Everybody had some kind of story to them, and the more she knew, the more she'd be able to tell. As an actor, gaining perspective was something she learned to be very important, and the easiest way to gain that was to talk to people. It's a lot like how writers can only write about what they know, so that when she had to be somebody else, she could draw on her knowledge about how others acted. She liked to think that this way of approaching and understanding was what made her good at what she did.
