Caught in the Headlights

DAMN DAMN DAMN DAMN DAMN!

Katie really screwed the pooch this time. The small sliver of hope that she was holding onto died abruptly as one of the trio pulled up his dukes and began searching around. He seemed way too eager to fight...not a good sign. But maybe her laughing just spooked him? Hell, she wouldn’t feel right if she suddenly heard creepy laughter. And judging by the way he was looking about, he wasn’t quite sure where she was. That good. Perhaps she could play it off as a...as a…

John Cena’s medieval twin was staring right at her. And with that, her hopes which had just started to crawl back from the icy grip of death were swiftly and brutally crushed beneath the Superstar’s greaves. He drew out a rather nasty looking sword and shoved it into the ground. It uh...looked much less terrifying in the game. And she had a suspicion that maybe, JUST MAYBE, it wasn’t just used for shaving…

The final member of the trio, the busty pirate chick, seemed utterly lost at first, but after muttering something to the others, she stepped away from the group and called out, “If you’re friendly, come out. More the merrier, right? If you’re not then…” Katie could have swore that she said something else, but the woman’s voice seemingly cut out.

This was uh...less than ideal. That much was certain.

Think, Katie, think.

Alright...so the situation was...iffy. She was close enough to at least inspect the three. She was looking at a level 90 Monk, a level 90 Guardian, and a level 73 Swashbuckler. At least according to the...screen-like thingies that appeared when she focused on them. If this was a dream, it was hella detailed...but something deep inside the girl was screaming at her that it was TOO detailed. She was TOO aware of what was going on.

...alright then, new plan.

Assuming this WASN’T a dream and that she was...what, IN Elder Tales...assuming that was all true, what would be her next move?

Attacking wouldn’t be a smart move. At least not upfront. Three-on-two certainly was possible but...that comp would be just too sturdy. Especially the Guardian. A quick look at his...stats...showed that he had just an insane amount of health. An HP-build then. Not particularly dangerous, but annoying as all get out. Then there was the Monk. Usually pretty beefy themselves, with a little extra umph behind their hits. The Swashbuckler should be the easiest target, but the girls would need to put her out of commission REAL quick if they were going to have a shot...and even then where would they be? Two squishies against two tanks? That rarely turned out well. If they still had the element of surprise, then this might be a different story but...

Wait…

The girl barely resisted the urge to look over at Zoe. Gears were starting to turn in her head. They obviously had heard Katie laughing but...she was the only one that had made a sound. And the big lug might be looking in her direction but...but she doubted if he could really make out both of them in the foliage they were hiding in. If she was right then…

“Stay silent and be ready to cover me…” she whispered. She didn’t dare glance at Zoe. She could feel her heart starting to pound wildly in her chest. This was...different than in the game. It felt so real...but…

But the concept was the same, no?

She just had to give her performance. No biggie.

The girl gulped then stood up straight, revealing herself. She began to walk forward towards the trio, forcing herself to laugh softly, trying to appear every bit a deer caught in the headlights. She just had to don her mask. It was just like any other time…

“Whoa, whoa heeey...easy now! Just chill out, guys!”

ZeeThree

What Could Possibly Go Wrong?

no
no no
No No NO
NO NO NO NONON ONONONONONONONONONONONONO!

Zoe’s hand shot out like lightning and covered her friend’s mouth, muffling her sudden outburst. This was not good. This was bad news bears. BAD BAD BAD.

Katie suddenly stopped laughing, the reality of the situation having finally hit her. Once she did, Zoe dropped from her crouching position and slowly crawled away. She had to quietly distance herself. If they were spotted then...then…

Well, Zoe wasn’t sure WHAT would happen, but it probably wouldn’t be good. Nobody that carries a sword THAT large is good. Like, what does he even fight with that thing? The hopes and dreams of innocent, scared little girls?

As she gained some distance, she looked over at Katie who was staring into the clearing, her mouth hanging slightly open. It was a face she was all too familiar with. A face that caused WAAAY too much trouble…

She was thinking.

“If you’re friendly, come out. More the merrier, right? If you’re not then…”

Zoe felt goosebumps sprouting up everywhere. She had never been this frightened. Oh, why did Katie have to choose NOW of all times to lose her mind?

It felt like an eternity (actually just a moment or two, but fear can fuck with one’s perception, man), but Zoe finally heard something out of Katie.

Her heart sank.

Stay silent?

Be ready to cover her?

SURE! WHAT COULD POSSIBLY GO WRONG?!!

What the actual hell was she planning?!

As if hearing her thought, Katie stood up and...walked out laughing? Zoe’s eyes nearly bugged out of her head. She was going to just straight up get herself killed here. And Zoe too, probably.

Cursing under her breath, Zoe crawled towards the nearest tree and pulled herself up into a crouch. She instinctively reached for her bow, and despite having never actually touched one of the damn things in her life, it felt comfortable and familiar. That was even more odd than the fact that it was an exact copy of ZeeThree’s bow from Elder Tale. That part made sense at least. The scenery looked like a much more crisp version of her favorite game. Katie looked identical to Uno Uno. She had thought that maybe it was just a strangely vivid dream at first but...no. That didn’t seem to fit. Whatever was going on, she would question it later. For now, the only thing she COULD do was...well...be ready to cover Katie.

Zoe waited a moment.

“Whoa, whoa heeey...easy now! Just chill out, guys!”

Zoe cringed. Katie was using her ‘sweet voice’. She had to hand it to the girl, if she hadn’t known any better, she might have even fell for it. She sounded somewhat meek and gentle, and then you learn that she’s a cold-hearted bitch that revels in the torment of others…

Why was she her best friend again?

Zoe shook her head then carefully peeked out from around the tree. Just enough to get a glimpse of what was going on.

Katie had been approaching the pirate woman, but she stopped a decent distance away. The girl had both of her arms in the air.

“Look, I didn’t mean to startle y’all. I just happened to be passing by and I heard some voices. To tell the truth, I’m a little bit uh...lost.”

Zoe scanned the trio. As from early, they all had plates by them. A Guardian, a Monk, and a Swashbuckler. If that didn’t scream Elder Tale, she didn’t know what did. They were well leveled as well. Not that it would matter. If Katie tried to pull something as stupid as picking a fight here, she’d put an arrow in the jackass herself.

The girl continued. “Sorry, I’m a little fuzzy. Must have been something I drank...would any of you happen to know where this is? I don’t really remember how I got here. I guess I can be a bit of a ditz sometimes haha...” She finished her sentence by placing both hands behind her head and shifting her weight onto one foot. Zoe couldn’t see, but she would bet that the girl was smiling her happy little ass off too. She played the part of helpless damsel a bit too well at times.

Hopefully the trio really was friendly. The Swashbuckler had given Zoe some hope but...well, the Guardian still had her on edge. Also...didn’t he look a bit familiar?

...hmm…

Nope. She couldn’t place it.

In anycase, the girl remained in the shadows, awaiting her friend’s next order and silently praying that she wouldn’t have to dig a grave today.
Yep yep. I'll have something up this evening myself ^-^

edit:
I am seriously THE WORST at deadlines. Tonight or bust T-T
@Ogobrogo Could you please put both your post together, and not double post, not angry or anything just saying because you should wait for two other post before posting at least.

Uhh...yeah. Okay.
@KoL

Woohoo! Senpai noticed me! Mission accomplished! ^-^

But seriously, glad you enjoyed that. Personally, I just love the fact that both Itsuko and Tsubaki slapped (or martial arts'd) the big scary security woman. Like, I actually laughed out loud and got weird looks from my coworkers. So that's always fun.

What…?

Katie was almost brought to tears as the first roommate pairing was announced and then immediately tossed into their room, quite literally. The sight of such a large oaf of a woman just casually tossing around little girls? Fucking hilarious. And humiliating, which made it even better.

But the girl’s good humor quickly came to a grinding halt when the second pairing was called and also tossed aside. Not that it wasn’t funny - it was - but because she was seeing a pattern. A bad pattern. A -

Her name was called. She hesistated for a moment, then stepped forward. For a brief moment, she thought she was going to get by without taking a flight on She-Hulk Airlines. No dice. All of a sudden, Katie felt herself gaining momentum. Right into the room. Almost face first into the floor, but Katie managed to get her feet under her and regained her balance after stumbling deep into the room.

The girl turned back around to the door, feeling a warm sensation in her face. Embarrassment? Anger? She couldn’t say for sure. But what she COULD say for sure was that a somewhat larger woman was tossed into the room with her. The tall girl had already changed her mind. Being tossed around? Not funny, definitely humiliating, and only done by complete and total asshats. Katie was about to give the human catapult the only finger that mattered when her roommate got up and...and…

Slapped the woman.

Katie was stunned. That uh...that just happened. Her roommate just slapped a member of the faculty and then told her how things were going to be. Like a badass.

Ten points to chubby roomie.

When the girl came back in, she cast Katie a look of...well, just next level boredom. Or annoyance. Her Resting Bitch Face game was next level. Then she spoke as if she hadn’t just committed assault.

Katie blinked, still slightly stunned. But the moment quickly passed and Katie met this Tsubaki Yozora with a roar of laughter. The fit really hit Katie hard, belting out an actual deep belly laugh. She managed to regain her composure long enough to shrug and toss her bags, a duffle bag, backpack, and guitar case onto the bed NOT by the window. She then spoke through her laughter in her best (but still pretty bad) Japanese, “Hahaha sorry. It’s all yours.”

With that, Katie crossed over to her bed and started to unpack but stopped after unzipping her duffle bag. Introductions. Shit. She spoke up without turning around, splitting her attention between this little bonding ceremony and her unpacking.

“Oh yeah. Uh...nice to meet you too? The name’s Katie. I guess I’m a second year? Hell if I know, really. I’m pretty new to this whole Japan thing...”

Katie let the silence hang for a moment as she listened to the music coming out of Tsubaki’s headset. It had a nice beat to it. And the riff wasn’t half bad either. The girl had decent taste in music then. That was a plus. She started to ask the girl about it when another person entered the room. It was the Bosslady. She crossed over to Tsubaki and...plucked her nose. Then gave what Katie could only take as an apology? This place was fucking weird.

At the mention of breakfast, Katie’s stomach moaned longingly. She would either have to rush her unpacking, or take a break to get some grub.

Her stomach groaned again.

It didn’t seem like she had a say in the matter.

Katie turned back to Tsubaki, scratching the back of her own neck and she glanced out the window.

“So uh...where exactly do we get breakfast?”

Watanabe Junko

EXCITEMENT!

WOOHOO!

The curtain began to rise on yet another year at the lovely Nakkashiro! Junko was practically beaming, her grin stretching from ear to ear. It was actually rather disturbing She happily bounced from group to group, greeting old friends and new ones alike. The first day of school was Junko’s favorite. It was all so new and fresh! ...well okay, it wasn’t her favorite day exactly. Every day was! One never knows what lies beyond the horizon! A new day brings endless opportunities. So on and so forth.

Needless to say, the girl was practically bouncing off the walls. It took all she had to sit still through the principal's speech, but she somehow did it. Mainly because what came next would be her favorite part of the day, or at least until her next favorite thing happened.

She would get her room assignment. But more than that, she would be getting her ROOMMATE assignment. Or as she would call them, her BEST FRIEND FOREVER.

As the security team lead the girls to down the hall of the dorms, she called names. Some she recognized, some she didn’t. But she’d know them all for sure by the end of the year. Definitely!

She heard some sort of scuffle coming from the front of the line, but Junko couldn’t see past all of the tall people. Some might have resented them. Envious of all that delicious height, who knows what a girl might do to even the odds? Not Junko! She was perfectly happy with how tall she was. She was fun-sized! ...whatever that meant!

Soon though, Junko realized what was happening. As the line thinned out, Junko saw that the girls were being literally tossed into their rooms by the large security guard. It looked so...so…

OMAHGOSH IT LOOKED SO FUN!

Junko wanted to be tossed! It would be like flying and diving put together. Flyving! Dilying!

Eventually her name was called, and Junko eager stepped up for her turn to soar through the air. She was not disappointed. She hit the ground and finished with a roll back onto her feet. The girl was giggling the entire time. Her bags ended up being tossed to the floor but Junko paid them no mind. She was much more interested in the other living creature in the room.

She turned to the girl, Marie if she had heard correctly, and flashed her that beaming smile. Junko could barely contain her excitement to meet the girl. She...well, she looked AWESOME! So very stylish! Junko would need to take notes.

"Bonjour, Mademoiselle. Endroit rugueux, est-ce pas? Je suis Marie. Comment t `appelles tu?"

So uh...Junko didn’t know French. At all. Sure, she knew what certain words or phrases meant, like ‘bonjour’ or ‘je suis’, but that was all pretty much gathered from pop culture. Definitely not enough to hold any sort of conversation in it. But the girl didn’t let that stop her! FRIENDSHIP KNOWS NO LANGUAGE BARRIER! From Junko’s best guess, the girl had just introduced herself. And so, Junko introduced herself as well. In Japanese. Completely glossing over the fact that maybe, JUST MAYBE, the French looking girl who had just spoken in FRENCH, might not understand Japanese.

Junko wasn’t exactly the brightest bulb in the box.

“[Hello! It’s so nice to meet you, Marie! It is Marie, right? That’s a beautiful name! My name is Watanabe Junko! But just call me Junko! I just know that we’ll be good friends! I mean, I don’t recognize you, so you must be new here. There are so many new people this year. It just gets me so fired up! So where are you from? I bet it’s lovely there! I want to see the world someday. There are too many places to see, too many people to meet to just stay cooped in one place, y’know? But a lot of those people come here! You never know who you might meet walking in the hall. Isn’t it just so EXCITING?!]” the girl spoke quickly and excitedly, smiling the entire time.

Yep. It was going to be another GREAT year!
