Paris Rosaline of
Team PYCHBoat to Patch - Monday Night
Paris was away from the rest of his team topside on the boat looking over the waves of the night sea. Normally he would love to spend time with Carlin, Yami and Heather. But his parents talk during his break has put him in a contemplating mood. His parents all but confirmed the fact that once he graduate from Beacon his life will be theirs to control. They already picked a wife for him to marry, who, he didn't know yet, they were waiting for confirmation from the girl's parents, but they seem to agree with the idea. Apperently they would produce excellent heirs to both families. Paris sighed, his breath getting caught in the night air.
"I hope this school year will be long..." Paris spoke bitterly as he pushed his pink hair out of his face, Beacon is the closest to freedom he will have in his life.
"Well, well. What do we have here?"From behind him, Paris would hear the voice of Fern as she approached him, closing her scroll with a light SNAP sound. She had just finished replying to a... surprising message sent by Sapphire. Her simple reply was:
You are so dead! X3 I wan't details in the morning. Seriously. Else I'll turn you into a taxidermy cat. Fern's attention then when back to Paris as she spoke to him.
"This night seems to be full of surprises. First, a new... development from a friend and now this." she said with the raising of a brow. She went to stand beside him, resting her hip against the rail of the ship as she looked at him.
"The ever cheerful and carefree Paris Rosaline just let out a very heavy sigh. I wonder why. Is he perhaps... not too fond of boats?" she teased.
While Paris was minding his own business being miserable, a voice shocked him back into reality, he jumped to attention towards the source. Fern of Team FRST. He quickly collected himself and put on a quick but fake smile.
"You almost guessed right, " Paris replied with a smirk.
"I'm not a fan of the damp underquarter, too damp and stuffy, not up to my noble standards." Paris said with a lopsided smirk holding back a chuckle, but honestly it was too damp underneath, it reminded him too much of the chamber for that damn tree.
"Noble standards? Don't be an ass." she said, laughing lightly. She turned and rested her elbows against the ledge of the ship and peered over into the water. Fern had a feeling that wasn't the only thing bothering him, but she was in no position to pry into his life. Instead, she changed the subject.
Paris laughs in response to Fern's comment. He shifted his feet so he can also peer over the railing with Fern, although he could barely do so due to his short legs compared to most others. His thoughts started to become more positive within the presence of another, he was never good at being by himself too many troubles to think about back home.
"So, what are you doing out here all by yourself? It's really not like you." she asked him while trying to see her reflection in the water. It was no use since it was too dark. The only sources of light were the dim ones that lit up the deck of the ship so the crew didn't trip and fall.
Paris glanced down to the water as well, he knew she wouldn't see anything at this hour, but he needed to look busy to think up a proper response himself.
"You know, being all leader-ly and stuff like that... and even I need time to think, hopefully I don't need to do it again, on this mission." He replied quietly as he looked back into the water hoping to see an impossible reflection.
"I haven't seen you in quite some time. I was happily surprised you agreed to bring your team along. I was worried you may have changed into some aloof, brooding guy. It's nice to see you and the others."Paris grinned brightly at his follow leader, glad for the change in atmosphere.
"I'm glad to still be full of surprises. I would make a terrible Huntsmen if I wasn't. You don't have to worry about that Fern, I'm still my old talkative, cheerful Leader of team PYCH self. And same with you, Fern, it's always nice to see you guys." "You know, I really wish I could say the same. But as luck would have it, I spent a couple days away from everyone and seemed to have forgotten how... unusual they were. I have a feeling this year is going to be a long one." she said with a smile. Scooting closer, she nudged him with her elbow.
"But talk about a way to kick off the new year. An assignment right off the bat. I'm gonna have so many bragging rights after this. I mean... more than I already do. Just look at me. I'm fabulous." she said, boasting playfully. She tapped the cool metal of the rail with her fingers and paused for a moment, wanting to say something more.
"I know right, I didn't believed you at first but I have no reason not to believe you. Also you may be the fabulous leader, I'm still the cuter one! Paris responded with a joking grin in response to Fern's boasting.
Fern smiled at his words.
"But on a serious note... I don't think I'd be so excited about it if you guys haden't come along. When I was told to pick a team to come with us, I didn't even have to think about it. I knew I could rely on you guys. I just hope whatever we're doing doesn't put any of our friends into harm's way."Paris returned to a more causal smile and he looked over the sea again, the moon was peeking though the clouds showing the waves more clearly with the moon's light.
"I'm glad your so confident with my team, I would've done the same if I was in your place, picking you guys, your team may be odd but they're reliable and are good people." He responded with a soft smile, he was telling the truth, team FRST and PYCH have been on good terms since first year, he also liked Fern's leadership skills, even if she does threaten people a lot, but that's what her team needed.
Fern let out a laugh and was about to respond when the clearing of a throat was heard behind them. She turned and looked surprised to see the General standing there.
Paris raised his eyebrow at Fern's sudden silence, before he shifted his body to view to where her eyes were staring at. He nearly jumped in fright at seeing who she was looking at. General Ironwood. He quickly moved his body to a more formal stance, even if didn't trust the man fully he didn't want to get on his bad side.
"Uh... Mr. Ironwood?""It's a bit late for you two to be up, don't you think?" he asked, moving to stand on the opposite side of Paris.
"I'm not surprised that you two can't sleep. Tomorrow is an important day... for all of us." he said as he looked at the two students.
Paris' body stiffened when the General moved closer to him. He tried his hardest to not be nervous. He was failing at it. As his sweaty palms proved.
Fern sighed and rolled her eyes.
"With all due respect sir, I wouldn't be so worried if I knew exactly what we'd be doing. Not just for us, but for the sake of our teammates. It's stressful not knowing what we're getting into."Paris glances at Fern nervously, while he agreed with her he wouldn't have been so blunt. But he should've expected that from Fern, she would be less blunt to a Beowulf then a headmaster of an Hunting academy.
"I agree with Fern, being in the dark is doing us little favor. To both our teammates and to the sake of the mission."Ironwood seemed unfazed by the tone in Fern's voice, even letting out a chuckle.
"A true huntsman needs to be... adaptable. Out on the field, no one ever knows what tomorrow will bring. As a leader, it is your duty to guide your teams to victory, even with the most unfavorable odds." He glanced at the two then, his expression calm and stoic.
"Tomorrow, I expect you two and your teams to show me you can do that. If you shall fail in this... Hmph." he closed his eyes and turned away from them, crossing his arms behind his back as he started to walk away.
"Be ready to face the consequences."As the General made his grim exit, Fern sighed and gently facepalmed herself, placing another hand on her hip.
"I really don't like him." she complained. While she hadn't expected the man to give them words of comfort, she wasn't too happy with what he
did give them. A certain sleepless night, that was for sure.
As Paris listened to the General's words he was fuming away inside, at the subtle jabs at their lack of experience, he never cared for the all knowing jar heads like him, it reminded too much of his parents. Luckily for him he was better at hiding his annoyance compared to Fern.
Slowly, Fern pushed her bangs out of her face and shrugged.
"Well, I suppose the old guy has a point. We'll just have to take things as they come I suppose."Paris sighed as his body loosen to a more comfortable stance.
"Yeah, but he didn't have to say it like he was talking to one of his military dogs." Paris responded in a bitter tone.
"I guess that's what happens when you become the strongest military power in the world. You think everyone is beneath you." Fern said, crossing her arms and shaking her head.
"I mean, it's not like we didn't know that to begin with. I should have made one of them tell me what the hell's going on." she mumbled.
A moment passed and Fern glanced over at Paris before reaching out to mess up his hair with her hand.
"Your hair is as vibrant as ever. I'm so jealous. I bet you use like a hundred different products, don't you? That's not your natural color." she told him, the forced subject change was probably obvious but she wanted to lighten the air, even if it was just a bit.
When Fern ruffled his hair he was shaken away from his subtle anger, he looked at her with confusion, but he just smiled when she spoke about his hair, a bad atmosphere was not good for ones health.
"Its all na-tru-al ~ it's part of the perks of being as cute as I am." Paris boasted while doing a sideways wink at Fern, earning a scoff from her. Paris couldn't help but laugh out loud at her scoffing.
"Natural? I'm not buying it." she said, jabbing him in the shoulder with her finger. She smiled at him before letting out a content sigh.
"In any case, I do think its time for us to get some sleep. I'll let you join me if you beg." she said to him smirking and taking some steps away from him.
"Though if you do wish to keep some of your pride... well, there's always next time."Paris has since stopped laughing but he was softly giggling to himself as Fern spoke.
"You better believe it!" Pairs boasted proudly. Then he was smirking himself,
"I was gonna say that myself. he replied with a chuckle. He closely followed behind Fern, to the resting quarters.
"I'll keep you to that~" he said brightly in a joking tone.
"Well I should get going before my teammates gets worried I was taken away by a seagull." "Yeah, I could totally see that happening." she said with a laugh as she peered into a room, checking that it was empty. When she saw there was no one inside, she turned and gave a wink to her friend before slipping inside and shutting the door.
Paris waved Fern goodnight as she winked to him. he walked to a chamber himself and closed the door behind him with a smile on his face, he is so happy to have such good friends. Tomorrow was going to be easy. He just knew it.
