Bio

Well now that I got the customary "post once" requirement out of the way....

HELLO

Welcome to my safe space. Well, about as safe as one space can be, I guess. If you are here looking for something, I am very sorry to disappoint you, but I made fresh cookies! Come sit a spell.

I guess I'll do some more in-depth stuff about myself. My name is Nick and I am 33 years old living in Illinois. I am a therapist and clinical responder (which is a fancy way of saying I go out on police calls to provide mental health assistance). Been doing therapy for a few years now and I absolutely love it!

I am a gay, cisgender man. I came out last year in January (smack dab in the middle of a pandemic. Timing was always my downfall). There is still much I am learning, but I am proud and happy to be who I really am and not have to hide it anymore!

I am an avid gamer, especially roleplaying games (cue surprised and shock noises). I also enjoy writing and reading, especially mysteries. I am not new to roleplay, I promise. I have been doing it for years now in different formats. I am experienced, even if it doesn't seem like it.

I use humor as a coping mechanism for sure, but I also like laughing and enjoying myself. Life can be pretty sad and upsetting for the most part and I don't want to add to it.

Whew! That got deep!

I will be poking my nose around in spaces and hoping to jump headfirst into this. Some interests I have in terms of roleplay settings include superheroes, DnD, science fiction/fantasy, mysteries, thrillers, horror stuffs, apocolypse, and espionage. And I am a fan of most things pop culture. If you have any suggestions or possible roleplays you think I would love, please let me know.

Otherwise, stick around! This is gonna get wild!

Before Verity could tell the sorry sacks that unless they could pull a magical unicorn that grants wishes from nowhere that she didn't need anything else, they were interrupted. She felt a small migraine coming on. She wasn't naive, she heard about the illnesses sweeping the country. She paid little attention though because it was probably some new wave of sickness that was little more than a flu but whiny babies needed something to latch on to to justify not working and staying home to watch Netflix and eat ice cream while the powerhouses of the world went on even if they had the sniffles.

"Fine. Send them home. But tell them that when they get back into the office I expect all paperwork done end of day in duplicate. Also send their families some flowers. Charge it to the company account, I'll sign off on it." She sighed and returned back to the meeting. "No, there is nothing else. I expect to see changes soon. Now if anyone needs me, I have a show to prepare for."

With that, she strolled out of the room, grabbing a piece of cheese to munch on to tide her over.

Prudence rolled her eyes at Maz's insistence on them all working together. She recited the words. The veil was repaired, albeit not completely. She felt it was due to her lack of committal, but what was there to commit? "I have said the words you shared. I need not do more and do not touch be again without my approval. I am committed to restoring the veil, but that is where our alliance ends."

Jack had tried his best, but it appeared that she was not alone in her refusal. Runa did not speak the words nor did she wish to take part. Prudence felt some respect. Though Runa was old. She had lived a life. What did she care of existence ended?

Prudence chuckled as everyone began pleading with Runa. "She is her own person and can make choices for herself. If we cannot do it without her we have no right to call ourselves Sorcerer Supremes." Prudence recited the words again, though she still felt unsure. She looked at Runa. Perhaps the woman was right to not take part.

No this was something more. Prudence felt it back when she had promised herself to her Lord. And felt better when she had made a choice for herself despite him.

Prudence's vigor was renewed. Damn the others, she would see this veil restored for herself and herself alone. Then she would deal with Runa and whatever source existed that needed her.

Perry nodded as Pietro grabbed Guin and sped off. Thank goddess they had a speedster with them. Perry slowed down, though she still kept heading towards the hangar, with Cortez's sister in tow. She glanced at the others, wondering their thoughts. Worried? Probably. They had fewer minutes now and Pietro could only do so much. Hopefully the others were on their way.

Neil's choice to keep Cortez's sister on the station was worrisome, though given all she had done, Perry could hardly blame Neil. "Hard not to feel worthless in this scenario. Don't need my powers to read the emotions in the room and my spirits can only do so much." She looked at her three spirit companions, all of them were worried, she could tell. Their connection, if she died, would remain in space.

Should she release them? She hoped Pietro got here soon.

Sabine was beside herself as Nimue played it off as if she were not in the wrong. Who in their right mind asked her to create a haunted house? The woman was clearly batshit. Sabine would go to the higher-ups once this was all done. According to Nimue, there was nothing she could do. If they wanted this monstrosity destroyed, they would need to do it themselves.

Leah took charge and went in. Sabine glanced at Ser Nemo, a look of disappointment on her face. she liked him, or she thought she did. "That's the thing about heroes. They don't choose when to be one. Cowards are the ones that see danger and do nothing about it." She let her venomous words hang there before following Leah in.

Once inside, she made sure to keep Leah in her sights. The house would surely try to keep them apart. She listened as Leah went off on the whole situation. Sabine understood her rage. She felt it too.

"We might not be fighting the same shadows this time around. We're together, so we may fight both of ours, or something much worse. I vote the latter, especially if the house senses what we are trying to do. Either way, we need to end this now so the ones still stuck in here can get out."

Sabine readied herself. Sword in hand, mind focused on the task.

Verity walked in like she owned the room. Which she did. She glared at the person who had dared implied she was late. If looks could freeze someone in place, hers did. "I will remind you and everyone else in the room who the person is that called for this meeting. Anyone know? Show of hands?" She raised her own hand. "Oh that's right, it was me! So I decide when we start and if I am late."

She walked over and saw they had gotten catering. She could not be bothered at the moment. She took a seat at the head of the table and set her things down. Once everyone had their own seat she stood back up. "Why did I call you here? While you enjoy your salads and cheeses we have investors breathing down our necks, wondering why our numbers are in flux. And what should I tell them? That I have a team of incompetent baboons who don't know their head from their ass? Or do I assure them we are rock solid? Tell me, because my phone rings day and night and I have so many emails I may as well send them all condolences. What flowers do you send someone when they call you a ho who should be sucking dick and on a pole? Carnations?" She let the rhetorical question hang there, seeing the uncomfortable looks the others, mainly men, were giving her.

"Yeah, when I find out who used those colorful terms, they will be nothing but liquid on the street below this building, so get your affairs in order. I have a show to get ready for. Numbers go up or firings get handed out and I am not sacrificing the lowly janitors or secretaries here because, unlike you sorry lot, they actually get their jobs done. Fix it. Now!"

20 minutes.

According to Guin they had 20 minutes to get off of this rock before it exploded. That....wasn't a lot of time in the grand scheme of things. Not only did they have this small group but they had the others that came to get them. Plus Cortez and his sister. They wouldn't be able to save everyone. That feeling crushed her gut. People would probably die.

Per Neil's suggestion, Perry had Barry shock Cortez's sister, knocking her out. Then she had Mary Ellen use her gravity power to make it so she could float. She wasn't just going to leave her there, even if she had caused all of this. "We're taking her with us. We are better than her."

Perry followed the others out, moving Cortez's sister with her, now made easier with her lack of gravity. But as they continued, Guin suddenly dropped to her knees gripping her head. "We don't have time for this. Can someone carry her with us?" She continued towards the hangar, hoping someone would tend to Guin and have her join the rest of them.

Prudence looked around inside the sanctum with a mix of awe and horror. The inanimate objects began bursting forth with song. Truly a house of horrors until someone came to stop them. She appeared well-versed in their predicament at the very least. Though Prudence was getting tired of being cast as the hero in this fable.

In retrospect, if the spell was not done, that subjected them all, herself included, to a multitude of offenses. Death and enslavement, the end of it all. As much as she wanted to go back home and as little she cared for her companions, she did not want herself subjected to this brand of horror. So, with some hesitance, she listened as the others began the spell. Once there was a break, she spoke her word.

"Through heart and soul of the Fifth Eternity, the world hears my call,
Invaders from horizons unbound, and hunters of the frail,
In the name of Agamotto, son of Oshtur, the Earth rejects your might,
May the Divide of the Cosmos stand tall, and never fall to ruin,
Lest we wither and lament the endless war of chaos everlasting.

May those who trespass these sacred bounds mourn their fate,
And the wicked from lands unseen be banished from whence they came,
The land, the sky, and the soul of Life defy the Great Beyond,
By decree of the Sorcerer Supreme, none shall trespass upon this Veil!"

The words tasted sour in her mouth, but hopefully they did their job.

This was a first for Sabine. She felt herself get angry, grow contempt, for (of all people) Danni. April was on the ground in tatters having experienced something traumatic. Dorian wasn't helping matters either but at least she expected that from him considering his choice in romantic partners. Danni she expected better of. But here he was, giggling and pretending like they hadn't just gone through something horrendous. Like their anger isn't justified. Sabine bit her tongue. She didn't want to add to the drama already unfolding. Emotions were high. Perhaps once she cooled down she would feel better.

But as of right now she wanted heads on spikes. And it appeared Leah was the same. Percy had managed to teleport April away and she was thankful for that. She wished he would teleport everyone else though and leave them to handle Nimue, who showed up looking full of herself.

Before Sabine could speak Leah dug into her. Leah shared the same points she was going to and Leah appeared surprisingly calm, though Sabine figured there was righteous anger burning underneath.

"We're not going to pretend like whatever this is hasn't caused harm to others and isn't actively causing harm since, as Leah said, there's still people inside. So fix this now and promise to help undo the damage it caused." The underlying threat was there. Fix it or I will and I won't worry about how it looks to outside observers.

Verity got in her car and sped off, not bothering to look back at the man who hit her. What were the chances she would ever see him again in a city like New York anyway? She got her assistant back on the phone. "What happened? Are you okay?"

"I'm fine. Can you set up an appointment ASAP at that mechanic I like? Also bring out a new outfit for me and have it out and ready in my office. Some twerp hit a puddle and got me. Hold calls until I get there."

Trudy agreed and hung up. As she drove, she looked to see some flashing lights from a police car and saw who they had stopped. It was the little puddle splasher. Verity grinned, seeing karma in action. Today just got a bit better.

Verity stormed into her office as everyone who had been standing around not doing anything quickly started moving. Trudy appeared. She was an Asian American woman with long, black hair and red-framed glasses. She handed Verity a coffee as she followed her. "Everything's ready for the board meeting."

"Good, I'm going to get changed and ready."

"So someone hit you?"

"Yeah some motorcycle asshole. He's lucky I didn't press charges. The damage isn't severe enough and I just wanted to get here and forget about it."

"All right, you have a call on line one. They're the only one that stuck around on hold."

Verity sighed as she entered her corner office with an impressive view of New York proper. She saw a garment bag on the side and opened it up, seeing a dark red powersuit with matching heels. Verity shut her blinds and got dressed quickly, putting the sullied clothes in the garment bag to be sent to the cleaners. She sat at her desk and saw that, indeed, line one was still on hold. She picked up the phone and answered, "This is Verity."

Once she answered emails it was quickly time for the board meeting. She had been prepped for this. She made her way out and towards the elevators. The board members would be waiting. She decided to let them sweat a bit. Made them easier to press and pressure them into what she wanted.

Trudy gave her a thumbs up as she pressed the call button.

Ethos lightly chuckled as Shattercrash went on and on. Getting down to business? That implied pursuing what they were here for, not playing back-and-forth with the lot. "We get it. You're a rebel with a heart of gold. If I wanted to watch every trope announce themselves I would read fanfiction."

I mean was Ethos going insane? They were not here to be superheroes, they were here to do the dirty work that needed doing. Hell, one of their "own" was actively going through how to take each of them out if they went rogue. And it wasn't like they were given free reign. There were surely protocols on how to manage all of them. Put to death or put in prison, made an example of. If anyone thought otherwise, if they thought this was a way to make up for past wrongs, they were idiots and deserved whatever came their way.

Ethos knew the things she did in the past could be questionable for those with more white morals. That's not how the world worked. A man who regularly beats his wife and child is seen as a monster so the wife kills him. Is she not a monster? Or is she only pardoned because she did so to save herself and her child? And what if you found out she enjoyed it, got pleasure from it. Do you call her out and send her to prison or allow her to live because she took someone arguably worse off the streets?

Morality is gray. Always has been, always will be.

"No questions here. Eager to get started." She responded before someone else came into the room, detailing their actual mission. A bank robbery? Still, this was probably better than whatever baby starter mission they had lined up for them. This would be a way to show what they could actually do in dangerous situations.

Ethos stood up, cracking her knuckles. "That's more like it."
