King Edin watched Wasun Sjan-dehk take his leave. There goes sundick. Phew. Now I can focus on my sons. He did pause as he noticed the man knock into a beautiful woman in revealing, orange clothing. One of his brows lifted as his gaze lingered. She was a looker, but... His eyes moved on their own accord. Perhaps too much of one. It was absolutely Alidasht garb but he wondered if the Sultan had sent a whore to greet his sons as some payback. Had that sexy yet absurd woman been talking to his sons? His eyes narrowed. Maybe it was a peace offering or maybe she was offering her services as an apology for all the problems the Alidasht were causing him.

Yet she hadn't offered anything to him.

He glared at Wasun Sjan-dehk briefly before glancing toward his sons. It was better he averted his attention elsewhere before he got too tempted by such a siren. He had enough concubines anyway.

Lady Crystal and Lady Ariella... Fine choices. Calbert will be pleased if something could work out between his daughter and one of my sons and that Count is indeed one of my favorites. The Edwards have also always done good work for me. This will do much better... But where is my wife anyway? Thought she'd show up too to oversee this.
Charlotte & Thea

Interaction: @JJ Doe Ryn/Fritz/â–łâ–łâ–ł

A little complicated? Charlotte had allowed a polite, tight-lipped smile to appear on her face in reaction to John’s words. She had figured Thea would have changed over the year just as she had, but how bad was it? Though she had heard rumors, she dismissed them simply as such. Thinking back to the ball, she did recall being a little perplexed by Thea’s choice of a ballgown. Varian was known for being less conservative with their clothing, but it had seemed rather out of Thea’s normal selection. It was only natural for people to change, especially in response to traumatic events. Perhaps the change had simply been startling.

It had been for Charlotte and still was. She still wasn’t sure quite who she was. Sometimes it felt as if she had been stuck in time, unable to move forward and become who she wanted to be.

Maybe that’s how Thea felt, even if the two women displayed such a thing in different ways.

She squeezed Thea’s hands tightly before letting go as she departed from the room with John. She took the letter in her hands and held it out before her.

My Lady,

Regretfully I must inform you that I cannot proceed with our marriage arrangement. I, like any gentleman searching for a wife, need someone that’s much more level headed like my sister Beatrice. I had hoped I could help temper you, but it has proven to be too much and I have chosen to end our engagement. I have sent a letter to your mother as well to inform her of the same thing. My sister Beatrice and I shall be departing this evening and heading back to Varian.

I wish you the best,
Prince Felix Camilia

She held the paper silently for a moment, her brows furrowing and her gaze darkening. Her grip on the letter tightened and Charlotte may have looked as if she were about to tear her nails into it. Finally, she set it on the coffee table. After a deep breath, she glanced up and became aware of her cousin. “Oh Devan, um.. I can show you where your bedroom is.” She offered suddenly, the tight-lipped smile reappearing. Charlotte took a moment to do so and allow the poor man to get settled finally, leading him up the stairs and down the hall. That ordeal took up a few minutes of her time before she made her way back into the drawing room.

Charlotte seated herself and tensely stared ahead of her, deep in thought. John and Thea returned to the room after some time and John took his leave. She had given a hug goodbye and then turned upon Thea as soon as it was just the two of them.

She had planned to be calm in her manner as her lips parted. Though she had managed to keep a low volume, her anger had leaked into her voice and her expression had immediately changed as she spoke. “How dare he speak about a woman as if she is a pet to tame. He best worry about his own temperament instead of casting such judgment upon another!” Charlotte had thrown her hands up in the air with a pout as she had been speaking. She then shook her head in disgust, adding indignantly, “Absolutely ridiculous… If I had a chance to converse with him…”

A moment of dread came over Thea once again as she remembered why she was here and what had occurred as she glanced at the letter on the table. She moved and sat down with a heavy sigh as she began playing with her hair some. “Oh Lottie, I made a grave mistake last night and I think it is what finally scared him off.” Her voice broke a little as she said this, but she took a deep breath in order to get control of herself. “I wasn’t fond of the arrangement and he was certainly…interesting, but I was just starting to come around to the idea of marriage. I got far too drunk last night and I went to his rooms where I confessed a few things and I knew it was a mistake as soon as he was unwilling to comfort me.”

Charlotte stepped forward and sat beside her. Her shoulders slacked and her expression saddened. Sometimes I hate the power a man can have over a woman. She took her words in and arranged her thoughts carefully before speaking. “Thea…” Her tone was softer than before now. She gently put a hand on her back, “The person you want to marry is someone who will love you for who you are… At your lowest and your highest.“ She allowed that to sink in, “Their perception of you isn’t supposed to change because you’re not behaving enough like their sister. They should not get to decide how you should act nor what kind of person you should be. Do not give them that kind of permission.”

The words almost came as a shock to Thea and she sat quietly for a long moment as she thought deeply about them. Although a rather simple thought, Charlotte was right and it had been something Thea had never really thought about before. Her whole life her actions seemed to have been dictated by others, especially men like her father. If she wasn’t what they wanted her to be she was shamed for it. ”A-are there people out there who will really love me for who I am, no matter what?” She asked as she glanced over at her friend, a blush coming to her cheeks as she realized how silly that question may actually be.

In a romantic sense, Charlotte wasn’t certain it existed, but she liked to think it did. “Well you have already people like that around you. I love you Thea. Leo does too and certainly, John seems to care for you. You have friends and family who are behind you no matter what happens. ” She started off explaining and then paused. Charlotte seemed to debate mentally before she sighed. “But in the romantic sense, I am also curious to such a question as well… I think we both deserve such at the least, don’t you?
”
She smiled sadly.

A warmth bloomed in Thea’s chest at Charlotte’s words and she felt tears sting her eyes once again, but this time it wasn’t from sadness. She was thankful to her friend while also internally beating herself up a little for staying away for so long. She was truly a fool and needed to start relying on those around her who truly cared about her. With their help, perhaps she could find some semblance of happiness.

She felt her cheeks heat as she realized she’d also mentioned John caring for her and she recognized how true that actually was. ”We do both deserve that, Lottie. You especially do. You’re kind and wonderful and smart and so caring, I truly admire you.” She turned and threw her arms around Charlotte in a tight hug.

Charlotte felt herself grow sheepish She thinks that about me? I didn’t think anyone admired me. She smiled to herself only to be caught off guard by her hug, her eyes widening. She did not hesitate to return the hug, “You’re too sweet Thea. I am sure you’ll have men running after you. Then!” Her voice rose in excitement as she started to geek out mentally about a book she read. She clasped her hands together as she let go of Thea and sat up on her knees, her eyes animated. “You might have a real romance like in the novel The Woman of the Sea and the Night. I don’t know if you read it but it’s about a beautiful pirate captain with a heart of golder than the treasures she seeks! Then she meets her match when she meets the-”

Her gaze turned toward the entrance as she paused mid-sentence. Delilah was back and she had brought… Fritz?

Charlotte was pleased to see her new kind friend, but caught off guard. “H-hello there Count Fritz.“ She rose to her feet to face him with a smile. She was surprised to see him return after the long night the two of them had. Though perhaps a little overwhelming for the introverted girl, she had not had company in a long time and it was kind of a nice change. She had been worried the time would have put a distance between her, Thea, and Leo, but they seemed to still like her just the same. Count Fritz was possibly one of the nicest people she had met in a long time. “Have you met Lady Thea?” She gestured to her then looked between them with a small gasp as she remembered her manners, “ Oh, do you two want some tea? Delilah just brewed us some. Or are either of you famished?”

Thea stood and dipped into a curtsy as Charlotte introduced her. “I don’t think we’ve had the pleasure of meeting yet.” She put a smile on her face, trying to be polite as she turned back to Charlotte. “I would love some tea and perhaps some biscuits if that’s not too much to ask for?” She sat back down then, scooping up the letter she now despised, crumpling it up, and tossing it into the fireplace.

The guards took Cameron up the steps of the platform in the middle of the arena. There was something tall covered by a raggedy, thick blanket. One of the guards uncovered it, letting the blanket audibly whip through the air. There was a tall wooden stake with a pile of wood and debris at its foundation. The doomed man could not help but inhale sharply at the sight. If he hadn't feared his death prior, he did now. His gaze drifted wildly back and forth over his view as the crowd grew audible in their apprehension.

One of the guards picked up his megaphone and cleared his throat. His gaze wandered into the crowd briefly then with a curt nod, he put the device to his lips. Subsequently, he began to holler into it, "My name is Darius Gregory. I am a member of Edin's Enforcement, often referred to EE for short as others in Caesonia have heard... Today, Cameron Nesworth will be burned at the stake for the following crimes against his Majesty King Edin: high treason, thievery, and physical assault against a EE guard." He awkwardly glanced in the way of the other guard. It was a woman with a tight ponytail. Her expression was unreadable. She had pressed Cameron up against the stake as he had been speaking. She handcuffed him to it. Darius felt a drop of sweat slithering down his cheek as he faced forward and spoke again, "We now will allow Nesworth some final words before the executioner arrives."

"High treason..."

"What the hell did he do? "

"Something's off about that guy. Burn him already!"

For some reason, that last comment coaxed a laugh from Cameron as he let his head hang limply, his mess of hair just barely covering his expression. The laugh was hearty and shook his form, shushing the crowd once again. "Something's off about me, huh? ... Don't you think something's off about the lot of you? Hmm? And how about this whole fucking kingdom!" Nobody had anything to say to that so Cameron laughed once more, "You all know! The power they covet and don't share with you! It's all real but they'll try to convince you it's a lie!" There was a wild look in his eye, " The monsters under your bed, the things that go bump in the night...The power is a curse but it is power even so! And he hides it! He hides all of it." He had sounded extremely bitter and his voice shook with his emotion.

In a rapid movement, the man picked up his head and began to scream with all his might. "THE KING HIDES ALL! THE KING HIDES ALL! THE KING HIDES ALL! THE KING HIDES ALL!"" People were starting to get uncomfortable. He sounded unhinged and frankly, none of it had made any sense. It was clear this guy had lost it along the way.

Darius looked again toward the crowd. After receiving the signal he needed, he turned to face the tunnel they had emerged from. With both hands, he made a gesture for someone to come forward. A hooded figure revealed themselves and made their way over slowly, lit torch in hand. It was difficult to tell the gender nor spot any of the facial features of the executioner, but all knew why they were there.

"THE KING HIDES ALL! THE KING HIDES ALL!"

The wind began to pick up, but it was not to a level many would have noticed with the spectacle before them. The executioner’s hood dropped to reveal a rather beautiful woman with a big smile on her face as she dropped her torch into the pile with a dramatic thud. As she had done this, she had softly called out with glee, “Burn!”

Once the executioner had set fire to the wood beneath Cameron, he had started to struggle wildly against his handcuffs. The smoldering fire began to crackle underneath him. Smoke billowed through the area and traveled high in the air in tendrils. He coughed and then turned his eyes on Darius threateningly. The hostile expression melted and he started to smile. Something about the twisted smile made the guard want to vomit as fear rooted him to his spot.

Cameron's face was in and out of view with the swaying smoke as he spoke once more, "I'm one of the monsters after all." His voice was low, almost inaudible, but Darius had heard.

Darius had frowned, his gaze lowering. That was when he noticed the red inferno growing in the corner of his view. He suddenly gasped and began batting at the flames licking the bottom of his pants. When there was no luck with that, he hastily climbed down the platform to start rolling in the dirt. When he finally rolled on his palms and looked above from his spot on the ground, he saw the flames engulfing Cameron's body. At this point, he had heard several things gradually as he became attentive to his surroundings. The first was mixed reactions of the crowd. Whether they were afraid or excited, they were all loud. The next thing he became aware of was the executioner’s voice as she was whispering taunts at the dying man. His gaze had slowly slid to see her with hands on each side of her mouth, trying to insult him with everything she could come up with. Finally, he heard the faint sound of maniacal laughter that sent shudders down his spine.. The young guard felt as if he had stopped breathing when Cameron caught his gaze for the last time. Through the flames, Cameron's eyes had been glowing red.

This one wants to know why you keep saying this one. Just say I! ...It's like he thinks he's in a story. Hmph. Well, he'll find out soon enough that this is my story.

He waved his hand at his request as it was easy to follow through on. It wasn't like he would need to do anything. "Yes. This one can come with our people to the urhm, Sada Koorao. I can have some of them accompany you at 1 pm today. They will meet you by the docks and you can guide them to your ship. "

The King's eyes then lit up as Sjan-dehk spoke of all the glorious things he had for trade. "Silks! Wines! Spices! Jewels! Now that's more like it. I will have some of my staff arrive with the men to review. They know my taste. But I would love it if I could have your best here tomorrow morning for my family and me to examine. We can surely send you back home with good payment for these luxuries-" He suddenly broke off at the rambunctious rustling of a chair. King Edin's gaze swung over across the room. There was a strange light-haired girl whose hair looked like it had been cut by a blind person. She was dragging herself off the floor in the most bizarre manner. His face contorted in both confusion and disgust yet he could not look away as an onion rolled across the floor.

What is that thing?

Callum stole his attention as he got up. He then proceeded to eat the onion in front of all the women. He was not surprised but boy, was he mad.

"GUARDS! Get that onion woman away from my sons! NOW! And Callum, conduct yourself with some respect for the ladies if not for yourself!"

He watched with a sigh as they moved towards Ruby, ready to escort her out. Tapping his fingers on the sides of his throne, he looked back upon Sjan-Dehk. He cleared his throat. "If we're quite finished... We can reconvene tomorrow to discuss my purchases. This will give you some time to settle into Sorian... There are plenty of inns to check into if you find sleeping on your ship distasteful... Remember to meet my people at 1 o clock." King Edin hoped he'd walk away now before it got awkward.

"Only two? Aw, that won't do. It sounds like you miss them." Anastasia couldn't help but wonder as she said these words what his relationship with his family was like. It could not be as abnormal as hers, could it? The tone change wasn't lost on her; it was something she was sometimes self-aware of herself doing. Perhaps out of sympathy for the possible situations the man could be in, or to absolve the guilt of being a selfish person in general, she decided she wanted to help him with whatever it was. He seemed to be a genuinely kind person. Despite the fact she kinda wanted to go to bed with all of the Sultan's gorgeous offspring, they had not given her the initial impression of very kind people. It was true that she had been sneaking out of the ball while the commotion with Duke Lorenzo had occurred, but she had paid some attention. They had not seemed most forgiving to say the least. Perhaps because she was biased toward finding Duke Vikena to be much-needed comedic relief throughout the years.

"Let's bring stuff back for your family too." She softly added.

Anastasia had been about to say more when the bird returned. She paused to smile at the bird and wave as if it could understand the gesture. "Hey there baby girl! Welcome back!" She looked like she had the urge to pet Thara for a moment but held the urge and returned her attention to Farim. "I think we need to get you more quality time with them." The princess took his hand and started leading him to the drink stand. As she moved through the grass, the sight of gold shined in the sun. The Alidasht princess with her beautiful skin and hair was hard to miss as she scoped out the stalls.

She immediately gasped and thought about immediately running up to her for a split second. Anastasia stopped moving and tilted her body to face Farim directly. "Farim! I see your cousin!" She whisper-yelled while retaining all the excitement of a true holler.

Charlotte blinked a few times. Dr. Williamson was not surprised by Layla's behavior yet he was still interested in engaging in more interaction. Considering the man had pulled a knife on someone so just moments prior, she supposed she should not be surprised either.

It didn't help her uneasiness that he was wearing such a delighted smile on his face as he had declared so.

He clearly enjoyed living on the wild side to say the least. She wasn't sure what to make of this new image of the doctor; he had presented a kind and polite disposition normally. She took a long sip of her tea.

"Marriage is such a tool nowadays." She held the teacup in her hands as she drew it away from her mouth. "I met a colleague while in the fields that's getting married to this older woman who he hasn't even met once. He's younger than I am. All 'cause she's from a noble household so he could have the prospect of advancement."

Charlotte had nodded her agreement. There had been a time when she had thought marriage and love were such wonderful, romantic notions. Nonetheless, she had been taught how wrong she was at a very young as her parents threw things across the room at each other during their yelling matches. It didn't get better when her mother married Lorenzo either, perhaps even worse. Even during events and whatnot, couples had seemed together for transactional reasons. There always had to be something to benefit from. She had only borne witness to real, beautiful love only in her books. Charlotte liked to think she was okay with that. "Such a shame, isn't it? ...Love seems like it could be so magical and darling the way it's written in books."Charlotte added softly. "Two souls just happy to be at each other's side for a lifetime. I could not think of anything more precious."

Almost as if taunting her wishful thinking, fate had delivered a despondent Thea into the drawing room. She set her teacup down quickly and rose to her feet at the sight of her. Charlotte hurried over without another word to take her hands and block her from the view of the two men. "No, no. What's going on?" Her concern was evident in her tone as her expression fell. It wasn't like Thea to show up like this. In fact, Thea had grown distant since her father had died. She hoped her mother and Leo were alright. Anxiety took a tight grip on her as she squeezed Thea's hands gently, telling her sternly and softly, "You take precedence right now. If you want to go talk in another room, we can. "

Her gaze did wander over her shoulder, "It's just my cousin Devan and Dr. Williamson. You need not fret over them."

Anastasia was surprised to see Farim miss all three times, but she supposed maybe they didn't have games like this in the Alidasht. she was certain Farim had much more important impressive skills. He still seemed a little embarrassed as he approached her. "Aw I'm not that good of a shot. Just some dumb luck! I think you were really close!" She told ahold of his hands and pulled them upward to face directly toward her. With a smile, she placed the bear with the yellow ribbon in his hands. "This is for you... Now we can always be friends because when we look at these bears, we'll think of each other!"

With a giggle, she responded to his next words, "I am a little thirsty. Mind if we grab something to drink before we continue our prize collection? And you're right! This is really a lot of fun! " Her mind wandered as she paused and the words spilled out as if on their own accord, " ...I wish my brothers were here to enjoy this. It would be nice to see them smiling. " Her smile faded just as little. ...And Darryn too. Maybe I should have tried to find him and brought him out with me. I have to go see him after this at the least and apologize.

For now, she had to pay Farim attention. She pulled the smile back up and began doing a scan of the stalls, her eyes pausing at the one pouring liquid into a glass, "I see a drink stall right next to the sorbet stall over there! Let's go!"

King Edin always loved when others knew their place: on their knee before him. He could not help but slightly smirk as the man bowed. Yes, yes. Apologize. That's it. His brow slowly raised as he introduced himself in the third person, pointing at himself. What is the meaning of this? Does he think I'm a fool? I'm very intelligent. He scoffed quietly at his own thoughts as Sjan-dehk had been speaking. Nonethless, this man seemed to be a lower noble.

Though this man was trying to sweeten his reputation by introducing himself initially as captain, King Edin had heard the word "servant" loud and clear. He wasn't anyone important at all. The names he was spewing were hardly familiar. He had wondered if this man had come to spew lies to his face until he did indeed recognize the name of the Queen. Oh so he's from over there. Egh. He was silent as he pierced Sjan-Dehk with his gaze while he spoke. He was quite intrigued by the idea of trade. King Edin wondered what luxury goods were being offered. He had wanted to obtain some more exotic decor to impress the Alidasht afterward. Subsequently, the mention of pirates made him turn up his nose.

Pirates? Hopefully not near me! Smelly criminals! I'll have them destroyed before they ever put their stinky feet on my soil... And he's brought them as prisoners! Ah!

King Edin did start to daydream even though the thought had disgusted him at first. If there were a lot of prisoners, he could put them all to work in the fields. Then he'd have more food. He licked his lips then shook away the glorious daydream as Sjan Dehk went on to offer him a ship, but a very damaged one.

Why would I want a fucked up ship? Is this what he's brought for trade?

Thankfully, Albert was quick on the move. He addressed everything in a short but sweet manner. He was glad Albert remembered after all these years how much he despised wasting time. He nodded his approval to his trusty advisor.

"Hmm yes indeed. We will accept these prisoners. I can send my boys down there to collect the smelly things. If the ship is indeed a gift, then after some review I can decide if it is worth fixing at my discretion. You are welcome to stay here in Sorian and rest as Albert has said... I am quite interested in hearing what you had in mind for trade. Has anything of intrigue been brought for trade?"

A horse neighed in the distance as well as the sound of many galloping. Calbert was arriving with an entourage as always. His favorite dark-blue coat waved behind him as he approached. There was a look in his eyes possibly unfamiliar to his daughter and slightly startling to his son.

His black horse came to a stop with a nicker at the sight of Crystal. He climbed off abruptly and came to stand before his two blue-eyed offspring. Calbert hadn't expected the two of them to find it each other so soon but after a nightmarish night, he supposed he was down on his luck. "Hello Crystal, Cassius." Despite Crystal having her guards with her, he hadn't called off the several watchmen he had around Caesonia.

His gaze fell on his sweet daughter and his shoulders slumped. His expression moved with the sympathy he felt for her. This was probably so overwhelming. All he wanted to do was keep her happy at this point. There wasn't much to be done with an ordeal like this one, but at least he could come to explain as quickly as he could. "Cassius is my son from a previous marriage. "He took in a deep breath before continuing, "I did not have contact with his mother after the marriage ended...Nor knowledge of her and Cassius's whereabouts... I had supposed I would never see him again, but he's returned. His mother has passed now and he needs to stay with us. I know it's a lot to take in, my dear, but he is family..." Calbert's eyes slid to Cassius, "Please treat each other as such."

Calbert paused for his children to digest. He rested a hand on Crystal's shoulder comfortingly, "Do you have any questions, either of you? If so, please make haste. Crystal, please don't forget about the Prince's Court event. It would be a lovely opportunity for you and if you want to make it in time, I suggest that you go to your carriage very soon."
