"Why, hello there."

Fionn's ascent up the cliff had immediately run into an unexpected hitch: a small, green face leaning over the edge in curiosity. More than anyone, he would be able to recognise that it was a Niyar up there—and unfortunately not Fiadh, which rather reduced the chances of talking it out.

"Bye bye~"

Especially with the cliff-face now rapidly liquefying into mud.

The vial of sand got a remporarily befuddled reaction, although sneezing wasn't quite what Renar had been hoping for. Certainly, there was irritation; the demon's eyes sure looked bloodshot. It also seemed that she didn't care and could see through any watering, or maybe just had a surprisingly high tolerance for blinding. Whatever the case, the tripping attempt was brought to a halt by the plain metal spike she forced into the ground.

Then Rolan fired his crossbow, and the armoured figure had immediately narrowed her eyes and was gone in a shimmer of purple—

—Appearing in front of the bolt instead and crushing the shot with a gauntleted fist. Her expression had gone from pleased to annoyed, and as Rolan was surely finding out now—he had her entire attention, as well as an uptick in aggression. That, or the sudden preference for weapons that would be large for a normal person was just her way of saying hello to archers.

While Gisela may have been planning some immediate follow-up to the destructive orbs, which were continuing now to roll away from the hill while steadily shrinking, the addition of magical fire from above was giving the duo climbing that side precious breathing room. Not that Gertrude's spells had gotten through to her, the older mage had simply raised her hand and the attacks kept slamming into a nearly-invisible barrier, the mana radiating cracks through it but the spells ultimately being absorbed.

The lack of fire in return soon ended, though. Rather than keep casting spell after spell, she had opted for a single powerful one of her own—

Gertrude probably wasn't happy to be on the receiving end of Shooting Stars, especially one so grossly overcharged in this short time that it was a veritable curtain of repeating fire. Oh, they were definitely weaker to be hit by, given that the Hundi had optimised for volume of fire, but that only meant so much when you were relying on staying in the air.

But that was still giving her an opportunity to look back at the knights climbing the hills, eyes widening at seeing how her demonic guardian was quite sidetracked, and start reciting another spell. This had an immediate visual effect, if anyone climbing (Fionn aside) were to look directly up. A flat disc where, instead, the sky was night.

Which was when the first sphere of silver light came crashing down. Far too short to actually hit Gerard, but the intent seemed clear—the Hundi was still chanting, and the hand not holding a staff was pointing. At least this gave warning, a second was now coming.

And then Fleuri. The captain. Renar. It wasn't rapid fire, but it was now accurate. And, if it hit, devastating.

Fujiwara no Mokou

"I wouldn't say that I'm much of a wide-area fighter, unless you want an entire forest fire," Mokou answered with a shrug, "Danmaku wouldn't do much good here."

Still, like the others, she had no issue with contributing to the extermination of the purple slimes, though perhaps not in the exact manner that Anne meant when she had expected area denial. It was the work of moments to simply toss ofuda into the fray and then... boom.

Indiscriminate explosions really were great for clearing out such fragile enemies, so long as she was careful not to throw them at the direction of anyone fighting the things.
Dort Road

"I concur with my companions. We should, if at all possible, endeavour to complete your journey rather than remaining in this ambush spot," Hikari said, looking rather distastefully at the blood sticking to her hands. It had been for a good cause, and yet... "Or, at least, move to a more defensible location."

Not that this was something she could contribute with; her reincarnation didn't contribute much to defending.
Miina Malina

Using her magic for Chisaki's benefit had been... awkward. It wasn't just because Miina spent the entire time she'd been working staring fixedly down at her hands, as she had good reason to not want to get distracted and make something worse or... but also because she didn't know how to start a conversation like "could the people who've been relatively nice to me please not try to die heroically when staying alive might be an option?"

So, she did as much work as she could, as tiring as it was to do so for long periods of time, and displayed all the bedtime manner of a statue. At least that was probably better than being a stammering mess? Maybe.

Now, though... she was in Osprey and she did need to see if there was any news of her brother. At the same time, it had been very clear that they would be looked for. Going out as she was simply wasn't on the table, which meant changing clothes—

She probably still stood out way too much like this, didn't she? Even if it seemed unlikely that anyone had really identified that her hair was red and it wasn't just the clothing and general style. This would get attention for all the wrong sorts of reasons, she had to find… someone who would know better. Izayoi or Hien were obviously locals, so they could help with the clothing thing, but Esbern was a spy so he might also have advice for finding someone? Although, maybe anyone would have a better idea of what to wear than she did.

Except Robin. Robin seemed like someone that would stick out no matter what was going on.

Now the only problem: finding the right person and asking what they thought she should do. At least wearing her normal style of clothing rather than trying to seem like an impressive mage ought to be a step in the right direction. Maybe.
@King Cosmos Not a GM, but doesn't that run into the same fundamental problem that any opposition that doesn't have super speed to constantly break line of sight or a hiding focus won't be able to avoid or contest the end result in any way without significant metagaming?
Fujiwara no Mokou

When Remilia asked if she was of noble blood, Mokou just returned a blank stare for a second. Then another one. Then it clicked that the small vampire wasn't from Japan and would hardly be familiar with the Japanese nobility—especially since, as far as she could remember, the entire political structure of the country had changed numerous times even before she was in Gensokyo...

"Yes, I'm a noble."

Though, of more interest than the planning was the slow-speaking Servant's explanation of what she was. Brought to life...? "So, you can't stay dead either?"
  • Name: Ando Hikari
  • Age: 17
  • Gender: Female
  • Appearance: Forever stuck looking about 10 when dressed properly.
  • Personality: For someone who looks so young, Hikari's attitude certainly isn't. Despite not even having left school yet, she's by default jaded and bitter, with particularly dim views on authority figures. On the other hand, she's also quietly confident where Grudges are concerned, even though most of her time in battle won't have more to call on than her own skill, or that she might end it without even that to work with. It's also quite hard to get a read on her expressions; Hikari doesn't emote much.
  • Backstory: Hikari was, despite appearances, physically born as a boy. Raised around the Kumano Taisha, Hikari's future was always intimately tied to the shrine itself and the religious practice therein, and something about that was bothersome in a way that could never quite be put into words. Until, of course, the need for new contractors to replace the old came calling as ever, and as a third son there was no question that it would be fine if their shrine's deity thought to answer, to deem Hikari worthy—
Well, the long and short of it was that Susanoo did consider her worth contracting, and the lack of concern she had for the obvious price paid finally answered a lot of questions. Just turned ten at the time, that left several years before she would be sent away to properly apply her learned skills, which seemed a rather valuable amount of time to prepare given the sheer breadth of options and potential for danger such a contract posed.
That was when the other costs became clear. Obviously, she wasn't growing, and her endurance steadily decreased—her parents pushing her to practice more and more all the time, even though she knew the link was clear. In the end, by the time she got away to school—and in Tokyo at that, far from the shrine—there was very little of her full reserves to call on. That's obviously not something that a school curriculum has helped with, which Hikari is particularly bitter about, as she knows her own aptitude and the depth of the contract should warrant better.
  • Skills: Although she doesn't look it, the tiny girl is remarkably adept with a sword, although not in a way that lends itself to any sporting usage. She's also astonishingly knowledgeable about the various gods of Shinto, for some obvious reasons, although she could be considered overly specialised for that. Her conventional education is pretty much entirely left to languish… aside from literacy, and for some reason smugly rubbing in her calligraphy.
  • Spiritual Energy Grade: Practically speaking, E. It should be much higher—although how much so, nobody can really tell as she'd already lost a lot of headroom before it came up—but that would take months if not years of total inactivity.
    • Contracted Being: Susanoo-no-Mikoto
    • Contract Rank: C—measured at her current stamina.
    • Contract Abilities: Naturally, such a potent contracted figure offers a wide range of potent abilities: the ability to call a storm or force one to subside; enormous power over the seas or hostile waters, or simply the control and invocation of them oneself; even a very potent healing ability that can cure nigh any disease as well as address injury—and to use any of them would put the wielder out of action for the rest of the day, and anything too grandiose would be left untamed and uncontrolled. Instead, the majority of her contract's use is the comparatively-free ability to manifest Susanoo's own blade, with Hikari preferring to call it the more poetic Ame-no-Habakiri unless a giant serpent actually shows up, and just do the best she can with a plain-looking, straight-edged sword… fortunately, one both indestructible and spiritually effective, even without the rest of the contract's powers to call on it.
    • Cost: The very initial cost of the contract was to be transformed into a girl… which really wasn't much of a cost at all, from Hikari's perspective. Naturally, though, contracting such a prominent and ancient deity had other costs associated with it: Hikari hasn't grown since the contract was made, her potential to reach physical adulthood also traded away, and any severe use of the contract's abilities does more than consume spiritual energy, it's scarring. As a result, her available spiritual energy has been gradually whittled away through carelessness or necessity.
It even has a tertiary cost... she says. Or maybe she just likes going home for long enough to take part in ceremonies. She certainly dresses as a shrine maiden enough.

Time to think on ability...
