Kerry narrowly dodged a mace swing before she delivered a roundhouse kick to her opponent's side, knocking them away. Taking a moment, she turned catapult to see her handy work. The siege weapon was engulfed in the flames and the firing crew had to abandon their station, lest they be incinerated as well.

Okay, that's one. Now for the- Gringor!?

Sure enough, Kerry turned around just in time to the High Orc himself charging in like a raging Minotaur anf flung himself at the other catapult, completely routing the other firing crew. The hornet was about to cheer him on when a Varjan Elite blindsided him.

"Shit!", she exclaimed, wings buzzing as flew in right on time to deflect the enemy's downward swing before kicking him in the chest, sending him back a distance. "Glad you can join the party, musclehead!, Kerry said to Gringor before pointing toward the obelisk. "See that pillar over there? Smash it. Trust me, I would've wrapped this up way sooner if that shit wasn't there!
@PaulHaynek

SHINNNNNNNG!

Tch, of course. Shit can't be easy.

Kerry quickly hopped to the side to avoid a sword swing, the Footmen regaining their bearings to now protect the Null Pillar. Obviously, the obelisk's durability would not allow it to go down to a single swipe of her spears. By the time she actually dealt with it, the catapults would have broken through the barrier. Time was of the essence, so the hornet would have to utilize something else.

That's when she noticed the fire pits stationed near the catapults. Naturally used to enhance the destructive capability of the Varjan's ammunition.

A smirk bloomed on her lips.

Okay, then. Let's get creative!

After deflecting another sword strike and kicking the combatant in the jaw for all of his troubles, Kerry made a bee-line toward one of the pits. Stashing Mort on her back, she thrusted Dusk underneath the pit with two hands before, with great heave, tossed the fiery contents up and outward...

....toward a catapult!

"Mr. Garrick, or Honorable Garrick if you'd prefer to be called that, would you mind leading our little group once we meet up again? I would also like to ask you about the 'great change' you foresaw for this land once we depart on the mission, and if it's the sort of calamity that requires certain... grudges to be set aside."

Garrick looked at Ken as the boy said his statement. Leading was something the cryptid had never put much thought into. Not because he hated leading, but more because he was always alone and used to being alone. Yet here was, tasked with a mission to retrieve a Gnosis with Ken and the elf. Speaking of which....

"Garrick will do, young one.", he answered before walking over to the elf and crouching down in front of her. Even when down to her level like this, his shadow completely engulfed the elf girl.

However, the size difference didn't mean anything. Not when Garrick had witnessed firsthand just how destructive this girl can be, both to everything around her and to herself. The lizardman gazed deeply into her eyes.....and there, he saw it.

The waiting. The calm eye of the storm.

Without prompt or ceremony, Garrick reached out and took hold of the arrow embedded in her before quickly pulling it out.

"Thy moments will come, girl of the tempest. But be warned: such rage and carnage shall only bring strife to all, thyself included. Care for thyself, for even gods can only take so much.", he advised, tossing the bloody arrow aside before standing up and turning his attention back to the Sand King. "I accept thy request, o desert king."
@PaulHaynek

"We wanna see you try, bug!"

"Your funeral, asswipe.", Kerry replied as she began to channel....her......

The fuck?

Try as she might, the winds were no longer answering her call. She couldn't even feel the mana in her own body. Something was actively suppressing her magic. But what could possibly be.....!

Kerry snapped her gaze back toward the obelisk. The glowing obelisk.

The dots connected. Hell, now that she's getting a good look at it, she remembered what this obelisk was as she had seen this before.

"A Null Pillar!? Fuck me!", cursed the hornet, the realization now putting her on backfoot as the situation turned even more dangerous. Being outnumbered already made this hard, but being silenced as well made this endeavor a near death trap. By all means, the wiser call was to retreat......But.....

Kerry gave a quick glance back toward the temple, seeing Io's barrier still standing....but for how much longer? If Kerry went back for help, would the catapults be able to break through during that time?

No, she couldn't risk that. Right now, she was the only one here to do something about their enemies' backline. That left just one option...

"Let's get it on, assholes!", Kerry cried out as she dashed forward. The Varjan Footmen charged as well, willing to meet her head on. When one of their own swung their sword first, however....

CLANG!

Kerry deflected the attack with Dusk before jumping into the air, wings buzzing, and proceeded to use her enemies' heads as stepping stones toward her real objective: The obelisk.

Her plan was simple, really.

Destroy the pillar.

"Honorable Scion of the Forest, you grace us with your presence! I am Bright Star in Uveran, while my Waltonian name is Ken Cooper - It is a very good omen to meet you!"

Garrick turned his gaze to young Ken and the boy a nod of acknowledgement. It was good that there are humans that still remember the true natives of Walton's wilderness.

"Before I speak further I would ask you two explain your own circumstances. I believe my lieutenant has thought you two interesting enough to bring before me"

"I am Garrick, from the land of Walton, o desert king.", the cryptid responded, his attention back the monarch. Mine circumstance is one of great importance. A great change is coming. I've felt it in the very earth. A crisis I aim to prevent. Such a mission has lead me here to investigate. Seems it was the....right call, as one would say."

Little time had passed as Kerry came upon her targets: Two catapults responsible for hurling flaming boulders at the temple. She also spotted a fence-post sized obelisk resting between the two siege weapons, glowing blue runes decorating its form.

Huh.....Peculiar., thought Kerry as she touched down some feet away, the Varjan Footmen guarding the catapults stepping up to fight the hornet. With a serious glare, she pulled and held Dusk and Mort tightly in her chitinous hands. War had come to the temple's doorsteps. The civilians and refugees needed protection and right now, it was only her here.

Kerry wasn't going to take any chances.

"This is your only warning....", the insectoid mamono spoke, tone calm and laser focused. "Get off the catapults and withdraw.....or else some of you won't be getting up....Period."
@PaulHaynek @Restalaan (GRI)

Before the Brigand could do anymore damage, a blast of wind slammed into their body, sending them spiraling right back out the entrance. A regiment of Varjans were set to jump over the temple walls, but...

"Wind Art: Squall Blaster!"

A powerful shockwave of air sent a number of Varjans flying as Kerry perched herself on top of the wall, Dusk gripped tightly in her hand as she surveyed the scene before her:

Varjans. A lot of Varjans.

Including one that was oh so eager to see her.

"HAARAAAAAAAGHHHH!"

"Mmmmmm....nah, I'm good. Thanks for askin', though.", taunted Kerry as she suddenly leapt forward. Before the crazed warrior could react, the hornet planted her boot on the woman's face, using it as a springboard as she took to skies. "That one's all yours, Gringor!"

Wings buzzing, Kerry flew over the battlefield, with one target in mind: The Varjan backline.

The foot soldiers we can deal with, but these catapults will wreck the temple if we don't take care of them., she thought to herself, drawing forth Mort as well as she got closer to her target.

Garrick steadied himself against a wall as the elf unleashed her Anemo powers in full, becoming a violent tempest of fury and destruction with only one thing in mind:

Kill anything that gets near her.

Her winds were so violent that, even though he standing off to the sides and not even in her field of vision, those winds were cutting into his scales. If she didn't calm down soon, it wouldn't just be the Electro fighter that's the main problem.

Thankfully, fate seemed to agree with that sentiment as, from out of nowhere, a Shaitan warrior dropped on the elf's back and managed to quiet her furious storm.

"You, lizard man, you are not one of those Spines too correct? Please, for the time being, calm yourself, while me and my men get this under control"

Sure enough, as Garrick looked around, more men in white began to appear in the arena. It would seem the chaotic fighting had died down to manageable levels.

"As for this one, I would restrain her, until this situation has passed. Some of my men will be watching you both"

Garrick gave an understood grunt in response, acknowledging the man as the cryptid reached out to the stands with his hand. A moment later, Azure Vein withdrew itself from the corpse of the Spine archer and flew back into his hand, giving it a hard shake to get the blood off before stashing the weapon on his back. The cryptid then went over the pillar where the elf girl was sitting and leaned against it, crossing his arms.

Whatever happened here, Garrick was sure the Sand King and the Geo Archon would have questions for everyone that was involved.....as well as demanding answers.
@Sho Minazuki @Renose @Letter Bee

"What the hell is th-GACK!"

"No! No, please! Don't come any clo-UGH!"

"Just what the hell are yo-AAAAAAAAH!"

If the enemy Spines were looking for a response for the towering cryptid, Garrick had none to give as a strong swipe of his tail sent an unfortunate pair over the railing and down to the lower stands. Quickly scanning his surroundings, Garrick found his elf companion already in the thick of another fight, shredding and pulverizing any poor soul that got close to her, even at the expense of her own body being harmed. It was clear that the girl was all-in on offense, with zero regard for personal defense.

If it wasn't for the fact that the girl was decimating her opponents, Garrick would've been more concerned than he was right now.

A sharp pain erupting from the back of his right shoulder caused the lizard man to grunt in discomfort. With a glance, he saw an arrow sticking out from his shoulder, fired from a Spine member standing on a higher level in the stands. Responding in kind, Garrick whipped around and threw his sword, the blade flipping in the air before impaling the Spine archer deep in the chest, causing him to fall over dead. Enemy taken care of, Garrick then reached over his shoulder and, with another grunt of discomfort, pulled the arrow out of his wound, which was already in process of healing.

A flash of lightning drew Garrick's attention back toward the center of the arena, where the Electro intruder was still fighting the Sand King, even with the Geo Archon's intervention. The cryptid's slit hazel eyes narrowed. Something needs to be done about that interloper and soon.

A Spine swordsman attempted to attack the elf from behind, but was thwarted as Garrick came in with a shoulder charge and slammed the would-be ambusher into the wall, the sound of bones breaking audible as the poor man slid to the ground.

"There, little one!", Garrick exclaimed to the elf as he pointed toward the arena's center, at the Electro fighter. "That one stands between you and your goal!"

"Shit....and here we were, talkin' about finally going on the offensive. Wishful thinking for another time, I guess.", Kerry commented as the temple grounds became besieged by the encroaching Varjan force. "I'll join Takeshi's group. You guys make sure not to die out there, ya hear?"

As the hornet went to join her group, she passed Eula.... and briefly made eye contact with the automaton.

No words were said between the two. No need when their eyes said plenty.

The message was clear:

We'll settle this later.

A moment later, Kerry continued onward, bracing herself for the coming battle.
