Scarlet Moons' Ranks

The Scarlet Moons uses a simplified army-style rank system.

Commissioned officers are those with significant leadership experiences. Some may be ex-officers from planetary forces or private security companies, while rear echelon officers can come from civilian management roles. Internally, the best sergeants can be commissioned. Lieutenant is general the starting point here. The process of commissioning is overseen by Colonel Stormcaller, the Izvoshra, and leaders from sympathetic communities.

The Izvoshra is the Scarlet Moons' high command. It is made up of Stormcaller and eight officers, which meets prior to any major operation. The membership can change depending on the mission; there are times where even sergeants are called to the Izvoshra.

• Colonel is the Scarlet Moons' leader. Only one being is of this rank, and it originated from the group's original status as a irregular Separatist regiment. Stormcaller is the only one to hold this rank thus far.
• Major is the second highest rank. There's five majors in the Scarlet Moons. Promotion to major is very rare, and there is no guarantee with time served or number of victories.
• Captain in the Scarlet Moons is the army type (rather than ship captains). They are promoted from lieutenant after at least two years of service and three successful missions. On very rare occasions, high ranking defectors may join as captains. There are more than 40 captains.
• Lieutenant is the most common commissioned officer. In addition to the standard two-week orientation, a new Lieutenant spends a week of "leadership training" under an existing officer. Depending on their background, a lieutenant may be a captain's aide, or immediately put in charge of their own unit. There's hundreds of lieutenants.

Enlisted personnel account for ~85% of the Scarlet Moons. Fresh recruits (KNBs - "kriffing new beings") are treated as expendable until proven in combat or challenging works. Because recruits can come in all species, enlisted members are not expected to wear complete uniforms. This also meant that KNBs are not given the adequate tools for their jobs. It's not hard to find infantry without helmets, mechanics without fusion cutters, and medics without bacta. The best sergeants know field expedients are crucial to survival.

• Sergeant Major is the most senior enlisted rank. Five sergeant majors exist in Scarlet Moons, each attached to a major. And like majors, there's no set criteria for reaching this rank. Although technically lower than lieutenant, sergeant majors are respected for their extensive field experience. Ship crew occasionally identify their Sergeant Major as Chief Petty Officer, or just Chief.
• Sergeants are important non-commissioned officers. They are squad and platoon leaders on the front lines, and in charge of work teams in the rear. Certain sergeants are advisors to lieutenants. Sergeants must have served three years at minimum. Scarlet Moons have hundreds of sergeants. Sergeants for fleet operations are also known as Petty Officers.
• Corporal is the most common rank. Privates are promoted here after one year or surviving two missions. Corporals can lead fireteams or squads. Recruits that have seen prior combat (or qualified for specific trades) can enter the Scarlet Moons as corporals. There are over a thousand corporals. Ship-based corporal are sometimes referred to as Leading Crewmen.
• Private is the rank given upon completing the two-week orientation. Although there's a similar number of privates to corporals, they are not afforded much respect (or even briefed on their mission; in fear of leaking intel). The average private is expected to perish or quit during their first battle. Those serving on starships may be called Crewman instead.

Scarlet Moons' Army

• Brimstone Battalion (~800 beings): Made up of experienced veterans, defectors and mercenaries, this unit is main assault force of the Scarlet Moons. They are also the only unit with a hovertank company. In addition, Brimstone soldiers have access to heavy weaponry and standardized uniform. Many beings in this battalion are Kaleesh warriors. Colonel Stormcaller himself is the commander.
• Sunburst Battalion (~500 beings): The reserve unit, troops in this battalion are often fresh recruits and not familiar with frontline combat. A typical recruit is given a week of holovid and sim-pod instructions before inducted into a squad, and some have to buy their own gear. In battle, Sunburst is normally deployed to guard the Brimstone's flank. Major Thiena Thel is the battalion commander.
• Prisma Battalion (~500 beings): This is the Scarlet Moons' specialist unit. Communication, engineering, intelligence and logistics are their main tasks. Its members have little combat experience, but have in-demand technical skills. Most Humans are assigned to this unit, as non-Human members do not trust them in combat. Major Yunus Dimet, a human (to his subordinate's hatred), is the commander.

Scarlet Moons' Fleet

• Sweet Revenge (Dreadnought-class heavy cruiser): The largest vessel of Scarlet Moons, their flagship and Brimstone Battalion's mobile base. Much of its original systems have been updated to increase automation and reduce crew requirement. It carries five V-wings, two U-wings, two VAAT/e and a hovertank barge.
• Palpatine's Bane (Free Virgillia-class bunkerbuster prototype): Captured from a Rebel shipyard right before the Battle of Yavin, this experimental starship brings heavy firepower against capital ships and stationary targets. Two Y-wings are attached to this ship. Also known as Palp-B.
• Evergreen (Nebulon-B Frigate): Ordered by Dynamic Automata as slave transport and captured by Scarlet Moons in 4 BBY; it's now the mobile base of Sunburst Battalion. Its starfighter hangars have been converted to barracks, though the ship still carries two Katarn-class and two Grek-class shuttles.
• First to Fight (Diamond-class cruiser): The only ship left from Colonel Stormcaller's CIS unit. It is modified for organic personnel instead of its original droid complements, and serves as the mobile base of Prisma Battalion. It carries four Sheathipede shuttles.
• Mad Anooba (Interceptor Frigate): Formerly of the Void Wing pirates and retained by those that joined the Scarlet Moons. It carries two Weequay saucer crafts and two Y-wings.
• The Scarlet Moons also has four additional Y-wings that rotate with those attached to capital ships.

Scarlet Moons' Slangs

• KNB (Kriffing New Being) - A fresh, inexperienced and expendable recruit
• Pew-pew - Blasters
• Nouce - Short for announcement; a message to all personnel
• Gaffi - Tusken Raider's gaderffii stick; a poor marksman who resorts to using blaster as club
• Cazh - Casual attire; also refers to members of rare species that are not given proper equipment
• Grav in - A planetary mission
• Fresher-mesher - A low-ranking member; often delegated to sanitation duty
• Pood - Short for poop-food; unappetizing rations (fabricated from recycled feces)
• Nozzle to exhaust - Maneuvering in tight formation
• Holo-tapper - A being that works with holographic interfaces; commonly signal or intelligence specialists
• Bacta-pusher - A medic
• Cutter-chaser - A technician and/or engineer; nicknamed for how rare and coveted fusioncutters are
• Pryss-hunter - A demolition expert; coined by a recruit from Verig, whom compared destroying AT-ATs to falling Prysses
• Zapper - An interrogation specialist; commonly believed to use electroshock devices to extract information
• Swoopie - Off-duty time or shore leave, where some like to take joyrides on swoop bikes
• Pre-vol - Short for pre-volunteered; describes those sent on dangerous missions without prior notice
• Monkey - A Human or near-human
• Besh Senth - Acronym for backstabber; a poor team player who lets their squadmates down in battle
• Mace windowed - A traitor executed by ejecting out of the airlock
• Immuun - An enemy that should be left alive; often Imperial-aligned Muuns that are captured for ransom
• Corusent - Portmanteau for Coruscant sent; someone hailing from the Core worlds
• Alderaan vacation - An extremely dangerous mission
• Chase the Chiss - Doing something meaningless, like looking for blue-skinned near-Humans in the Unknown Region
• Tarkin - A strict (and often disliked) commander
• AHU (All Hoth'd Up) - When a situation turns out very bad; like the Rebel Alliance's near defeat on the ice planet
• Plasts - Imperial troops; refers to their plastoid equipment
• Rusties - Veterans from CIS-era Scarlet Moons
• Propapander - An idealist that actually believes in propaganda

Astronomical Twilight

Each twilight phase is defined by the solar elevation angle, which is the position of the Sun in relation to the horizon. During astronomical twilight, the geometric center of the Sun's disk is between 12 and 18 degrees below the horizon.

To the naked eye, and especially in areas with light pollution, it may be difficult to distinguish astronomical twilight from night time. Most stars and other celestial objects can be seen during this phase.

However, astronomers may be unable to observe some of the fainter stars and galaxies as long as the Sun is less than 18 degrees below the horizon – hence the name of this twilight phase.

Stormcaller

Kaleesh | 50 | Colonel

Though Stormcaller isn't his real name, he's known as such for as long as people remember (some say it's a title he acquired from a fallen foe). Stormcaller believes core world species are greedy and exploitative by nature. He joined the Separatists at the onset of the Clone Wars, following the examples of General Grevious (whom he still reveres as a god-hero). He led a unit of mostly organic privateers until the CIS' defeat. This unit held out because it was unaffected the master droid shutdown, and it eventually became Scarlet Moons. Stormcaller resists the empire as his way of taking down the big guy, and helping the little guys by distributing loot to backwater worlds.

Yunus Dimet

Human | 32 | Major

One of the very few Humans in SM; he grew up on Alderaan and enlisted as a stormtrooper. In 2 BBY, Sergeant Dimet was selected for the deathtrooper program, but washed out because he was nearly crippled during physical augmentation. As a result, he was sent to a remote outpost, unaware of the destruction of his homeworld until Scarlet Moons raided that outpost and took him prisoner. He pledged his allegiance to Stormcaller, and is invaluable as the insider on Imperial tactics, despite hatred from non-Human comrades. He commands the Prisma Battalion, and is in charge of intelligence.

Gun Chuqu

Neimoidian | 41 | Captain

Captain of Scarlet Moons' flagship, Sweet Revenge; she is responsible for navigations and coordinating transportation. Gun Chuqu's career started Trade Federation naval cadet, which turned out for the worse when Cato Neimoidia scapegoated her as a separatist "traitor". Since joining Scarlet Moons, Gun Chuqu had become more paranoid over time. She is rarely seen outside of her quarters and the bridge, and prefers to communicate with holo-messages.

Dveerah Euphonid

Entymal | 33 | Captain

Scarlet Moons' chief surgeon; she exemplifies their anti-human sentiments. As a barren female, Dveerah was trained as a midwife to her hive queen, and was known for her soothing songs. Dynamic Automata enslaved Dveerah and her hive a decade ago. While others in Dveerah's hive all died from hard labor or dangerous experiments, she was kept around as Elta Besk's singing pet. Freed by Scarlet Moons in 4 BBY, Dveerah couldn't pass the chance for payback. She is respected for her medical knowledge and feared for brutal interrogation methods.

Blackjack

Gigoran | 28 | Sergeant Major

Dark-furred and over two meters tall, Blackjack uses a translator to speak Basic, like other Gigorans. He's an Ord Thoden born glass worker turned criminal. Now, he's one of Scarlet Moons' top snipers, and the most senior non-commissioned officer. Besides sniping, Blackjack enjoys looting. Personality-wise, Blackjack is very relaxed. He harbors no ill will toward any species or factions; he just wants to take their stuff.

Red-Eye Perdz

Kaleesh | 27 | Lieutenant

Head of procurement; he obtained much needed supplies thanks to his black market connections. Perdz was named Red-Eye due to an iris defect that makes it hard for him to focus on moving objects (rendering him useless in combat). When Perdz met Stormcaller on Kalee, he was a spice dealer running from the vengeful kingpin Baploe Scober. He joined Scarlet Moons to attune for his misdeeds.

Myraim Fast-Hands

Zabrak | 30 | N/A

She is the Void Wing pirates' leader after Oni'antae's death. Her crew merged with SM recently, though they retain their own chain of command. The Void Wings provides much needed starships and starfighters. Myraim and her pirates are the opposite of Colonel Stormcaller; they are opportunistic, cowardly and self-serving to the extreme.
