Name (& pronunciation): James Carlyle Nicknames/Aliases: Gunfighter, The Unknown Soldier Date of Birth (& age): Oct 7, 2014 (29 years Old) Place of Birth: London, England Gender: Male
Physical Description
Height: 6'01"/185cm Weight: 156lbs/75kg Detailed Physical Description: His hair is medium in length and somewhat unkempt, primarily dark brown but a few strands have faded to a lighter shade because of poor power management. His eyes, originally a hazel brown colour, have also faded for the same reason, with his right eye being a pale bronze and his left eye fading to an off-white grey that is sometimes mistaken for blindness. His face and body are somewhat more youthful than expected, looking closer to his early 20s instead of late. His physique is slim but tightly packed with muscular tissue, both as a result of his past and further enhanced by his Imperium. He is decorated by a litany of scars and tattoos, as well as a slight discolouration of the skin. Typical Attire/Clothing: James likes to take a little bit of pride in his appearance but also realises that he needs to keep it practical so he is most commonly found in casual or smart-casual clothing, usually consisting of a shirt and jeans with motorcycle boots. Usually dark, unassuming colours like blacks and greys, but sometimes with a little bit of darker colour like reds, blues or purples.
When on a mission/hunt, he also wears an ammo rig across his chest and waist, as well as a backpack, with the ammo of the weapon he is carrying at the time. He also dons a black face mask in an attempt to prevent his identification, and always keeps his scars and tattoos covered. Black leather gloves also help to prevent fingerprints.
Given the more passive nature of his powers, he has supplemented his combat ability with various pieces of hardware appropriated from dead enemies.
German-based 5.56 NATO Assault Rifle, useful for short to medium range. Equipped with a 3.4x Scope, angled foregrip and aftermarket muzzle break.
British Sniper rifle chambered in exceptionally powerful .338 Lapua Magnum, useful against armoured targets at long to extreme range. Equipped with a bipod, muzzle brake and 6x/12x/40x Variable Scope, as pictured.
Swiss-made Handgun in 9mm, Primary sidearm. Recovered from the body of a police officer kidnapped and tortured while on duty before being executed by gang members.
Paired American-made Handguns in .45 ACP, stolen from a rising gang leader in the Mid-west and used to kill him in retribution
Italian-made 12 Gauge Shotgun, useful for close-quarters and interior combat. Stolen from the LAPD by gangsters, serial numbers filed off and later stolen again by James.
1000cc Cruiser Motorcycle appropriated from an Illegal chop shop ran by another gang.
Personality/Attributes
Personality/Attitude: Cold and Practical, James has been hardened by his past and is reluctant to open up to people. He drives himself to be as self-reliant as possible, learning as many skills as he can retain and harbouring a great reluctance to ask for help when needed. This is commonly misconstrued as pride, but this is instead born of his mild paranoia as to avoid showing exploitable weaknesses no matter how small.
He has a tendency to overthink things and is slow to truly trust someone, but he is practical enough to team up with or ally himself with others when needs must. He is wary of the Imperiums and the effect they have wrought upon human society, questioning their nature and rejecting the idea that they are a test from a divine power ior similar far fetched ideas. He overall thinks poorly of Imperiums and their hosts, despite being one himself, because he has experienced far more evil than good. The adage of 'Power Corrupts' fits well to his experiences. Skills/Talents:
Firearms Combat - Including Akimbo Handguns
CQC/Mixed Martial Arts
Mechanical Engineering - including Firearms and Vehicle Maintenance
Basic First Aid
Likes:
Tea
Firearms
Motorcycles
Dislikes:
Criminals - Especially Gangs
Subversion of Justice
Smoking - in part to his own addiction
Fears:
His Father - Despite being dead, his abuse has left James with long-standing scars
Dying Alone and unloved
Falling in love and losing them
Guiding Life Philosophy: Pragmatic Utilitarianism, An Eye for an Eye
Background
Origin Story: Born to Aria Carlyle, a single teen mother in the rough part of London, he grew up with as normal a childhood as could be afforded to a fatherless boy on gang-ridden neighbourhoods, even taking up Mixed Martial Arts in his free time. He didn't have much, but he was happy. He was 16 when the Imperiums first fell and by fate or just horrible circumstance, one of the very few to fall near Britain bonded to a local gangster and criminal. Powerless against the monsterous abilities of the psychopath, he watched as his mother was tortured, raped and murdered. His hatred of criminals grew and festered even as he watched as the murderer was gunned down, still raping his mother's broken corpse.
As a legal minor, custody was transferred to his father in the US and he was flown over to live with him. Kyle Adams was a dispassionate drunk stuck in a dead-end job and living in a run-down bungalow in the ghetto, and immediately jumped at the chance to exploit him. James immediately became an outlet for his aggression and self-pity, exposed to constant and brutal physical and verbal abuse. He was forced out of education and into multiple part-time jobs by his father, his earnings immediately taken as 'repayment for taking care of him'. Trapped and without the means to escape, he remained in his father's home until he was 20 years old. As a brief respite and to avoid returning home as much as possible, he frequented a local gun club, where he learned all the intricacies of handling a firearm from an ex-Marine who also frequented the club.
He finally managed to escape when his father was threatened by local gangs over borrowed money and turned on James, citing him as the reason he couldn't pay when the truth was he had wasted the money on gambling, drugs and alcohol. Amidst his father's drunken beating, James snapped and defended himself by reflex. His father, enraged, grabbed a knife and the fight culminated in James killing his father. He grabbed what money he could and burned his father's home down in the dead of night.
When the gangsters caught wind of the fire, they tried to extort James into giving them the money he had and one of them pushed a gun in his face. He disarmed the one with the gun and used to kill him and the two others, before leaving the area to hide out. Somehow the rest of the gang found out and sent a Host to kill him. This Host, however, had been abusing his powers and wasn't at his best; This meant that James was able to (with some difficulty) kill him instead. The Imperium inside him abandoned it's dying host and forcibly bonded to James, who tried to remove it but eventually gave up and just accepted it. Feeling the effect of the Imperium enhancing his body, he returned to his old neighbourhood and wiped out the gangsters, but was forced to flee when the police arrived.
He luckily managed to escape before passing out, but when he woke up he felt extremely hungry and his appearance had changed slightly. He fled to a different state before returning to the UK, where he visited his mother's grave and enlisted with the Royal Marine Commandos. He served for 6 years on active duty before returning to his old estate. Despite his long absence, crime was still as high as when he had left and he was accosted by two thugs not long after arriving, only for him to disable them both. This turning into a full-on brawl when the thugs' friends arrived until one of them pulled a knife and went to stab him and he reflexively retaliated, killing the man by accident. The police questioned him a few days later, but dismissed him by lack of evidence as none of the thugs could come forward without being arrested for other crimes.
He returned to America not long after, having received a phone-call that his old friend, the ex-marine, had been seriously wounded in a drive-by and wasn't likely to survive. James made it a few days before he died, and searched for information about the ones responsible. After the funeral, he managed to finally locate the culprit; he was hiding out in a apartment complex controlled by the local gang he was affiliated with. Using his friend's connections, he collected numerous weapons and launched a one-man assault on the building, killing his way through anyone that tried. When he finally reached his target, he ignored the man's pleading; he instead shot him three times (2 to the chest and one to the head) and threw him off the roof.
He fled the state before police could catch on, but he continued his vigilante spree for the next two years, hopping from state to state and murdering criminals. It was over this time period that he collected many of his scars, from gunshot wounds and blade slashes to burns and chemical scars, as well as his tattoos (including his detachment in the marines and his friend's old unit number). He also collected his signature equipment, usually interesting pieces of hardware that caught his eye, but he also commonly used the criminal's own equipment against them and threw it away after. He arrived in NAC about three months prior with the intention of completing his most difficult hunt yet: wiping out the White Rose and the Vultures.
Imperium
Imperium Code: YC76245 Imperium Name: Everyman Power Name: Physical Enhancement Power Description: A fairly plain set of abilities; No laser eyes or monstrous transformations but by increasing his metabolic factor and more efficiently distributing the resources, James' physical abilities are enhanced to peak condition, including his senses and reflexes. His body's natural healing is also augmented at additional cost. Pitfall Name: Metabolic Dependency Pitfall Description: Because his metabolism is increased, James is required to intake a proportionally increased amount of sustenance. The Imperium can compensate somewhat by metabolising pigments within the body (this can lead to visible discolouration of the hair, eyes and skin) or certain toxins. Also, his improved senses are vulnerable to outside stimulus if he's unprepared for it.
Notes: Despite spending extended periods of time in the US, his accent is still quite prominent. It is often assumed that he hasn't been in the states for long.
WIP, I'm just posting it so I don't lose it or something. Feel free to review what I have though, make sure the Imperium is alright
So much for waiting patiently for everyone else to post... I'll probably work on my Nightmare and Gunfighter concepts and have a CS up for each in the next day or two
Edit: A few questions btw, how much time has passed since the Imperiums fell and where is this RP based? Is it the same as it was in the interest check?
@The Fool When you say 'Imperium Name', what do you mean? Do they have given birth names, or is it more like names/nicknames given by the hosts as a sort of identifier?
I have a couple of ideas, from the fairly mundane 'enhanced physicality' (based in adrenal enhancement) to full on Nightmare Enducing Demon-form (Hormonal/pheromone based). If I had to condense them down, I've got:
1) John Wick on Speed, Steroids and Endorphines (A physically enhanced gunfighter) 2) Kaminari and Raiden's angsty lovechild (Lightning based powers) 3) Human Darkrai with a liberal dash of Scarecrow (a combination of fear and transformative based powers) 4) Nanomachines, Son (seamless Biological integration and interaction with technology) 5) Unlimited Blade Works (blade-based Psionics) 6) Angery Dragon-boi (draconic mutation)
So pick which sounds the best and I'll go with that, I guess.
I've got a question about the types of powers that the Imperiums can grant; Are they more mystical and fantastical, like magic or The Force, or are they more based in pseudo-science like X-men-style mutations?
This seems interesting, I was thinking of a fairly young Knight of the Round (early 20's) in support of the Progressive Faction? I'd like for him to have a personal connection to the Empress (maybe they grew up together) but I don't know if that's pushing it.
