Alfred Wilshire has been Mayor of Sanctuary for 15 years. Sanctuary does not impose any term limits on the mayoral role and so Alfred has consectutively won the popular vote for over a decade. Alfred won his last reelection by a landslide, however, he has begun to consider retiring after this four year term is over. He has one more year to decide to rerun or to find another person to put his vote behind for the town.
Alfred grew up in Sanctuary and has scarcely ever left it. He loves this town and the people through and through. His father was a farmer and his grandfather was a miner. He comes from a hard working family who were some of the original founders of Sanctuary. As such, he has very traditional beliefs and values. At times this makes it difficult for him to relate to the younger generation but Alfred does make an effort to speak with everyone and try to understand perspectives. By all accounts Alfred is a very friendly and positive man who tries his best to help the towns people, although some believe him to be losing his mind in old age due to his agreements with the new developments in town. In reality, Alfred understands that Sanctuary would soon die out without allowing new businesses and housing developments into the area.
Before Alfred became mayor he was previously a 10th grade history teacher, so he knew many of the townspeople very personally before he retired to focus on more political aspirations.
Alfred was married for 45 years, though sadly his wife, Nancy, passed 2 years ago in a hit and run accident. To this day no one knows who hit her and it is presumed to be a driver who was just passing through. Together Alfred and Nancy had one son who currently lives in Washington state.
