I used to love the holiday season as a kid, but these days I’m terrified that the strange man in red is going to break into my home again and leave another suspicious package under one of my plants.

Alright, that's it! I've had enough of this damn heat. Bring me my matches, it’s time to burn the sun down.

If there are 3600 rats living in my bones and I eat one every second, how long will it take me to eat all the rats? Assume each rat undergoes binary fission exactly once every hour.

Adventurer, the rats in my basement have merged into a fractal entity! I will pay you 4 silver coins to slay the infinite rat(s) in my basement.

What better team building exercise is there than running away from your impending doom together?
@Versa Blood you say... you have my interest.
Blinking several times and trying to steady her breathing Hina thought about just what their plan should be. Trying to find other players would probably be a good idea, but meeting new people was scary and they'd probably try and talk to her. On the other hand, working out how exactly the game had changed seemed like a good idea and one that didn't necessarily involve meeting people, at least not yet anyway.

"Umm... i-if there isn't a p-plan... maybe we should t-try to work out how t-the game changed... umm... some t-things, like menus and s-stuff, work sort of how they used to, b-but other seem to have c-changed..."

Hina briefly summoned her inventory panel to demonstrate the similarities before pulling up the sleeve of her cloak, letting the red mist rise up from the exposed portion of her skin.

"B-back before the became r-real, c-creature of the night didn't trigger w-when I wore a cloak, b-but now I need to be p-properly covered by it..."

Hina paused to let the sleeve drop back down before any of the abilities other side effects had time to kick in.

"I-I think t-that some of my other v-vampire abilities have c-changed as well... m-maybe we should learn our a-abilities and possibly find out what else has changed?"

Hina by this point was feeling a little calmer, still way out of her comfort zone but no longer feeling like she was about to faint.

The moment Megumi spoke up Hina seemed to sink back impossibly far into her cloak as her embarrassment dialled up to 11. Half convinced that her legs where about to give out beneath her, Hina willed her inventory panel into existence and with a few swipes of her finger had equipped her mask to conceal her face.

"Y-you dare..."

"... I'm s-sorry, I... I'll s-stop i-if you want... y-you can just call me H-Hina..."

Hina's voice rapidly shrank as she spoke until it was barely a whisper and she wanted to curl up into a ball and cry, but instead let out a shaky breath, blinking away her tears from behind her mask (actually how was it she could see through her mask? Another question for latter).

'Why did I think acting like myself would be better? This is so much worse...'

Stopping herself from burying her face in her hands Hina instead extended a shaking arm in what might have been a motion for a handshake had she not immediately withdrawn the arm.

"D-do you know w-whats going on... w-what's the plan?"

@VitaVitaAR
After taking a moment to compose herself and get the better of the sudden excitement brought on by the realisation that she'd just been transported into her favourite game, Hina stopped to assess the situation.

Immediately it was obvious that this wasn't just a part of the newest expansion, Emerald Odyssey wasn't a VRMMO and even if it was Hina was pretty sure no modern technology could create this kind of experience, certainly nothing commercially available, which left a number of possibilities open including, magic, aliens, the will of some mad god or some other conspiracy Hina was yet to consider.

Lifting up one of her cloaks sleeves, Hina watched to red mist begin slowly rising from her arm before quickly pulling the sleeve back down as a wave of lethargy washed over her and noting that while in the game her cloak would have protected her effects of sunlight simply as a result of being equipped it now needed to actually be in the path of the suns rays to take effect.

The change in this aspect of the game sparked even more questions for Hina as to what else had changed and how. What other changes where there to the way skills and abilities worked? How where skills even used now? Could a player train and improve independently from the skill system and could they be taught other classes skills? Did the NPCs now behave like people, where they conscious and where they aware or oblivious to their true nature? Had flavour text become literal and for that matter had the lore become literal, from memory there was some pretty epic level stuff in there? Most importantly how much more fun would it be to experience Emerald Odyssey in true first person?!

Even through some of the more worrying questions that came to mind, like those on death & respawning, Hina quickly found herself getting worked up with excitement around her own speculation, coming up with countless ideas and theories she vowed to test as soon as she got the chance. But first there where some more pressing matters, namely other players and securing a means of attending to her basic needs.

Eyes scanning about the town square Hina's gaze soon locked on to a trembling girl clutching a staff, who from her demeanour and the fact that she looked vaguely familiar, Hina guessed was probably another player she'd seen around some time before. Moving forward to stand in front of the girl Hina paused for a awkwardly long moment thinking of how to introduce herself.

'Hello, my name is Hina... No... Good Morning, will you be my friend... even worse... maybe as Chisuikoumori... perfect.'

Finally coming to her decision Hina closed what gap was left between her and the girl with far more confidence than she was normally capable of, striking a pose she deemed befitting of Chisuikoumori's character and silently willing her thaumaturgy spell to go off, which to her relief trigger causing her hood to fly back and her eyes to shine a brilliant red.

"Greetings, I am Chisuikoumori, greatest amongst vampires and Blood Knights."

Hina began to feel her face burning up as she suddenly became aware that interacting with real people in Emerald Odyssey now, was incredibly embarrassing, even while acting as Chisuikoumori. After pulling up her hood up to hide her face and hoping that the blood mist concealed her embarrassment Hina continued on, albeit with a little less confidence than previously.

"I'd like to inquire as to whether you current circumstances coincide with m-my own."

It had become Hina's turn to begin trembling, though she hoped the girl would fail to take notice.

@VitaVitaAR
Abhhhhh, sorry for being inactive. I've been meaning to post, but between some pretty explosive diarrhea and the internet going down every few minutes I haven't been able to get one out.

I'm no longer such though, so provided the internet holds out I'll try and get something up today.
I'm planning on waiting through another round or so of posts or until an interesting lead comes up, otherwise I might have Hina run some experiments (involving extensive harvesting of course) try and get an idea of how the world has changed. @PKMNB0Y If I do run the experiments should I PM you first as to what I'll find?

@VitaVitaAR Just realised that Megumi and Hina are both students of the same age, what do you reckon the chances are of them going to the same school?
Hmmm... it's tempting to have Hina approach the large group you guys seem to have formed, but that already seems pretty crowded, so maybe I'll wait and see what happens with Kaede, Akimoto or Megumi before posting anything else.

Also, because I was bored I decided to create a list of gathering skills for Chisuikoumori:
Hina squeezed her eyes tightly shut, vaugly aware of a warm light on her face and the chatter of animals in her ears, but trying to ignore the sensation in favour of getting some sleep.

'Did I fall asleep gathering again? Damn, I hope Chisuikoumori didn't get killed by some wondering monster, I'll log on and check later.'

Hina rolled over onto her side frowning for a moment upon feeling the touch of grass on her cheek, before becoming acutely aware of the fact that she wasn't at all tired, but rather just feeling very lethargic. Snapping her eyes open she observed a forest clearing through what seemed to be a fine red mist radiating from her face, before finally locking her eyes onto a strange looking flower.

'Wait those actually exist? I thought they where just an Emerald Odyssey thing... actually where am I... more importantly I'm starving, wonder if I can eat the flower...'

After a moments thought she decided that eating the flower was a bad idea, instead standing herself up, half delirious with this strange ever growing hunger and absent mindedly pulling up her hood to keep out the red mist, before stumbling off in search of food.

Eventually stumbling into a clearing where what looked like a dead deer, missing its head and pelt but otherwise pretty much intact lay, Hina blind with hunger leant over and began to feed off the corpse. After she'd finished a number of thoughts raced through her recovering mind.

'Is everything really massive... No I'm tiny... Hehe, this is kinda like Emerald Odyssey... Holy S**t I just ate that thing... Holy S**t, I'm in Emerald Odyssey.. Hell yeah!'

Taking a moment to think about the situation Hina realised that given her hight she was probably currently in the body of Chisuikoumori, and what she experienced just before was likely the effects of her sanguine hunger. With that in mind Hina squeezed her eyes tightly shut and shouted inventory, grinning as she opens them and sees the semi-transparent pannel and quietly cursing herself when she realised she already had a few bottles of blood. After donning her mask and traveling cloak to protect herself from the sun before using a scroll to return to town.

"This is going to be so much fun!"
Name (Former): Ito Hina
Name (Character): Chisuikoumori
Age: 16
Appearance:

When Hina created Chisuikoumori she wanted to play a character that was small and cute, which wasn't so much a problem back when Emerald Odyssey was still a game, but has since proven to be rather annoying and disorienting.

Character Level: 56
Character Class: Hemomancer (Blood Knight subclass)

Personality: Hina seems to alternate between acting like herself and acting out the personality she created for Chisuikoumori. For the most part she tries to be herself but is quick to switch over when that gets to awkward or when interacting with people she's uncomfortable with.
While acting as herself she's incredibly shy and socially awkward, but when she adopts the act of Chisuikoumori however her personality takes a full 180, while she still lacks any clue as to social norms, she acts far more confident and outgoing, with seemingly limitless energy. For those that witness her sudden change in character it can be somewhat disconcerting, but given that Chisuikoumori is still just a act she usually struggles to keep it up for long and generally begins looking for an opportunity to retreat pretty quickly.

In combat Hina would most like to be a frontline fighter, as it's what Chisuikoumori was built for, but due to the detriments of blood frenzy she pretty much always instead sticks to casting blood bolt and thinking up less conventional tactics that allow her to stay as far away as possible from the melee.

Abilities: Being a vampire Hina has a number of abilities:

  • Vampiric: Hina has a number of abilities commonly associated with vampires, including increased speed, night vision, immunity to poison, a bite attack, and the ability to turn into a bat at the cost of blood.
  • Sanguine Starvation: Hina has no need for food, sleep and water instead requiring blood, a common drop harvestable from most creatures, failure to fulfil this need results in a starved condition in which she looses most of her vampiric abilities, suffers from severe pain and may enter a frenzy in the presence of humanoids or warm blooded creatures.
  • Creature of the Night: When exposed to sunlight Hina gains a debuff in which she will not naturally recover from damage, becomes severely lethargic and constantly looses blood in a red mist.

Skills: While Hemomancers are a spell casting class that use their hit points in place of mana and Blood Knights focus on using their enemies health to augment their physical abilities, Hina's skills seem to be a bit all over the place, with a number of low levelled skills chosen from pretty much every skill tree, seemingly entirely based of if they sounded cool with no concern for any kind of meta. The only consistency in Chisuikoumori being the excessive number of high levelled gathering skills she boasts. Some of her more notable skills include:

  • Basic Spellcraft: Due to the HP cost imposed upon spellcasting for Hemomancers, most take very few non-combative skills, making basic spellcraft a skill seldom seen in hemomancers but extremely common in a number of other classes. What this skill allows Hina to do is create simple magical effects like sparks or lights, the most dangerous this skill can get is to produce a candle sized flame.
  • Blood Bolt: The most basic skill in the Hemomancers arsenal. By expending some HP Hina can launch a mid ranged projectile comprised of her blood at a target. This skill has relatively high damage for its level, however as low as Hina has levelled it that's still realativly little.
  • Thaumaturgy: Another basic spellcaster ability, this one next to entirely useless, but popular with some newer players. What thaumaturgy does is create arcane effects around a player that essentially function to make them look cool. They might make their eyes glow red, their cloak billow or their voice boom.
  • Thicker than Water: A Blood Knight unique skill usually not taken in favour of armour, what this skill does is make Hina more durable and resistant to injury while she is outside of armour and reduces bleeding damage she takes by half.
  • Haemophilia: A rather common Blood Knight skill that causes Hina's weapon attacks inflict a DoT bleeding effect on top of whatever damage they would normally deal.
  • Blood Frenzy: One of the few non-gathering skills Hina heavily invested into and the only choice in creating Chisuikoumori she regrets more than being short. Blood Frenzy is a rather potent passive skill that triggers whenever Hina deals damage with a melee weapon or someone damages any creature within a close proximity to Hena. Whenever this skill triggers Hina gains a temporary cumulative boost to her stats, speed and damage up to a maximum level.
Unfortunately along with the rest of the Emerald Odyssey becoming real, the frenzy part of this skill also seems to have taken on a more literal interpretation which can quickly result in some borderline suicidal rampages should Hina ever engage in melee combat.

Backstory: Hina for the most part was never really more than your average student, with the most noteworthy thing about her having to be her overwhelming social awkwardness. It wasn't like people disliked her but it wouldn't have been an understatement to say she had no friends, which is why a few years back when she decided to give Emerald Odyssey a go she immediately fell in love with the games world as a place where she could act as she pleased and talk to people without feeling embarrassed. Hina always intended to at some point follow Emerald Odyssey's main storyline at some point, but for the most part always ended up getting distracted with exploring the games expansive world, grinding and completing side quests, particularly enjoying the gathering mini games of which she never seemed to get bored.

Other: Due to Hina's playing habits and being a long time player of the game she is incredibly high level for her progress in the Emerald Odyssey's storyline and subsequently lacks a lot of the knowledge generally expected of someone if her level. On the flip side her tendency to exploration and gathering has left her a significantly wealthy player with a fair portion of knowledge on much of the games wilds.
