Mavis wasn’t sure if she heard that right. Maybe she was still tired in the head and didn’t get enough sleep, but the more she played back the mission briefing in her head, the more she realized they were supposed to be fighting the civilians. Wouldn’t that be detrimental, if not contradicting their entire mission? Unless there was a catch and the civilians of Gabaras had long since been turned into monsters of madness. It seemed she wasn’t the only one with these thoughts either, hearing someone in their crew actually question the plan aloud.

Ultimately, the answer to his response didn’t matter. Regardless of morals or reasoning, that was their orders. Mavis made a mental note of that, though she did so with a frown. She signed up for monster slaying, not civilian slaughter, but she’d let time wait its course to see just what they were dealing with. Deeper and deeper their group traversed, passing by barriers as they entered an area surrounded by many noble-looking houses. Suddenly they stopped and with their halt came the first of many blood battles that overtook the group’s footing and wear.

Mavis’ suspicions were all but confirmed with the first attack, the woman leaking blood as she attempted to attack Maria. Indeed, it seemed that, by now, the citizens of Gabaras had all but lost their minds. “Best to consider them as monsters if not for our own sanity,” she gravely said to anyone who listened. A string of more blood combat would follow one after the other. By the time the three hours were spent, Mavis’ spear was dripping in the blood of innocents.

“As innocent as they could be,” she sighed, finding a wall to rest against while her short sword rested by her side. All seemed well enough for the most part until a scream filled the area. Instantly Maria was brought back to alert, watching as Maria fell over dead by some strange substance while an arrow was suddenly embedded into the crystal they all sought to maintain. “Shi-” And then the world blackened as distortions and reality blended into one another.

A sigh escaped the Scorpion’s lips, though it was doubtful either Magical Girl heard it. Between their own sense of self-righteousness and the love for hearing themselves talk, any sort of input was dropped; after all, they ignored her already. Still, she wasn’t surprised at all to find her blow blocked by the same barrier that impeded her before. The only indication she gave to Yuri’s newfound power was a simple eye raise behind her visor before she turned back to Ayaka.

The girl was on the move, roused from her bout of stillness as she launched herself towards the Scorpion with all the stalwart wrath of the earth. The Scorpion raised her arms up, taking the brunt of Ayaka’s attack as it sent her flying upwards in the building, cracking through the floors and causing more property damage than the Pageless ever could. All the same, it was almost poetic in their backdrop as gravity took place and the Scorpion free fell through the many holes back down.

“You stopped speaking arrogantly the moment you took this seriously. Perhaps I’ll do the same,” the Scorpion said, both Yuri and Ayaka beneath her. Both were readying their attacks, the boy with his magical swarm, and the girl with her pitiful attempts to pin her down. “Very well.” The Scorpion’s tail wrenched back, sliding and coiling around one single leg. Dark power emanated, pulsing through and rippling the building in shadowy waves.

Even the newcomer could feel the encroaching aura and pressure building around the focal point that was the Scorpion from all the way up her spot on the tightrope. Darkness seemed to envelop the Scorpion’s one leg and soon she was rocketing down towards Yuri and Ayaka. Faster, faster, and faster, until she was merely a purplish blur of light that made itself manifest with a harsh dropping kick to Yuri’s face.

The lights that once illuminated the area went out in a single flash and Yuri’s butterflies of myriad colors and Ayaka’s pillars all extinguished while darkness shockwaved the area once more. The Scorpion’s boot dug into Yuri’s cheek, slamming him into the ground with such violent force and ferocity as if to kill him; but he would survive. No sooner was he put down did the Scorpion twist around to deliver the same impacting force to Ayaka. Enough power was in the side kick to send her flying completely through the building’s walls and out of it entirely; the Scorpion didn’t care if the other girl could stop her own descent.

“We’re done here.” Leaping off Yuri, the Scorpion bounded up the cracked and ruined top holds of each floor one by one. Like a springing shadow, she was beside the clown-like Darkeeper in just a moment, noting Robin and the bunny girl’s frantic entrance. “Are you done playing around Harlequin?” And then she stared directly at Robin. “Your friends aren’t worth our time.”

You're fine by me @The Irish Tree. Post her and post up.

The Scorpion found her kick halted, but not by much. A barrier arisen from Yuri’s magic, it sought to not only protect his ally, but send the same force right back at the Darkeeper. It was a foolish attempt but one all the same. The Scorpion was pushed back briefly but didn’t appear any worse for wear, simply twisting about in the air gracefully. At the same time, she felt a weight connect with the brunt of her tail and soon a booming crash followed in its wake.

It didn’t take much observation to realize it was Yuri, blown back through a wall as he was. “For Magical Girls, you don’t talk like the heroic sort. You don’t match either though,” the Scorpion mused at Yuri’s comments and his status as a Magical Boy. “If you’re going to trash talk, have the power to back it up.” In the midst of her time midair, the Scorpion flicked her hand with several rods that almost resembled blades with their size shown off between her fingers. Like a shinobi of old, she hurled them right through the blown off wall.

The rods, once the size of knives, increased larger and larger the closer they got to Yuri’s prone body until they were the very same rods that had harassed them this night. As one was dispatched, the other sought to attack in their place. The Scorpion easily dodged and avoided the spear lunges coming from Ayaka. Whatever couldn’t be dodged was casually brushed aside and pushed away with the Scorpion’s strength, her magical suit acting more like armor than the others.

Even with the joint union of his staff and Ayaka’s, the rods would still come faster than any bullet, cracking and rippling along the air towards Yuri. “It’s a mistake to disarm yourself,” the Scorpion said, landing back to the ground now that the assault had ceased. “Your leader is wrong too. Did we ever once attack the civilians in this building? Simple flaws in your observation like this lead to crucial mistakes in battle.”

She doubted Ayaka would listen, let alone care, as the Magical Girl lunged forward thinking she could bring the fight to even ground, fist to fist. That was fine by the Scorpion. She danced around the attacking Ayaka, clearly more adept in hand-to-hand combat than the other Magical Girl. No sooner did the fighting begin was Ayaka’s thrust arm from a swung punch latched with the Scorpion’s tail coiling around it in crushing fashion. Before she could respond, the Darkeeper was behind her, twisting around to slam a knee into Ayaka’s back with the same force that sent Yuri flying.

I've gone ahead and added the CS skeleton so people can get an idea of what racers they'd like to make.

INTRODUCTION
For as far back as time ethereal there has been one basic instinct laid dormant within all living creatures; the strive to move forward. Through eons and ages of the galaxy this single drive has manifested in countless ways and facets. But now, in the modern age of the cosmos, this instinct crystalized into a buzzing craze that has enamored the galaxy’s citizens in its grip; the Space Races. Wild, untamed sports that provoke daring, bravado, and most of all, grand prizes for those foolhardy enough to participate in the sport, now reign in the cosmos.

The Space Races are far spread among the star systems inhabiting the sky and with their diversity so too do their quality range as well. From the standard courses of one planet to another, to the more constructed tournaments hosted by collaborated systems, only one true race matters in the grand design: The Cosmic Grand Prix. Hosted on the planet Mevalo by the aptly named Mevalo Corporation, the Cosmic Grand Prix attracts daring pilots from all corners of the stars to win the ultimate, impossible prize; a single wish to grant any desire.

No one knows how exactly they manage it, but time and time again the Cosmic Grand Prix has proven to be a mass success for the Mevalo Corporation. With the dawn of the 45th Grand Prix arriving soon and rumors of a new head sponsor for this year’s tournament, the excitement for Space Races and the Ark Riders who participate in them has never been higher. The time for doubt is over. Let rumors of Mevalo Corporation be dispelled. Let the races begin.

SETTING
Welcome to Mevalo. City, planet, and host to the Cosmic Grand Prix; all of them are proud labels of the Mevalo Corporation. Long ago they became the pioneers of true Space Races, pushing forward the promotion of Ark Riders from all walks of life and planets. With their funds and resources, they converted their entire planet into one grand monolith devoted to racing in the galaxy. Naught more than race tracks of every variety and stature remain as part of Mevalo’s surface while a sleuth of unseen, working machinations keep the planet stable as a constant race course deep below.

It is here where those who call themselves Ark Riders, ace pilots of every craft, gather to participate in the Cosmic Grand Prix. Every year the tracks get bigger and better with more additions and attractions to win over the audience and its participants. As a result, very few Space Races compare to the weight and budget of the Cosmic Grand Prix. But what makes Mevalo truly special is its end prize for winning the ultimate race. Whoever take’s the winner’s rite and claims victory may have the power to grant any wish of their own desire.

It may sound too good to be true, but Mevalo has continued to remain the top name in Space Races all around the galaxy. All types of species are accepted and encouraged to participate in the races as they dare the differing obstacles faced on each individual track. From foreign jungles and lava fields to rippling high tides and desert storms, all of it is provided by Mevalo to maintain an ever-changing and, more importantly, ever exciting grand prix for audiences each year.

Even the rumors of Mevalo’s new sponsor for the 45th Cosmic Grand Prix has done little to sway people’s interest. If it’s bigger, then it’s better, and everything is certainly the case for the Mevalo Corporation. Take home the glory, fulfill your wish, and become the greatest Ark Rider in the galaxy if you dare to risk life, limb, and pride in the heat of speed.

Bump since we're still open for slots.

It was impressive that the Magical Girls could handle the threat of the Pageless so easily and with little damage all around. All things considered, the building structure remained intact and they had even successfully moved the civilians out of harm’s way thanks to Yuri. With the Jack in the Box meeting its end, all of the life energy stolen by the Pageless would return to their human owners. While they would be fine, they wouldn’t wake up for quite some time.

It was thus, the perfect opportunity for a new force to reveal themselves. As above, so below, and with one stepping out from the shadows, another came to mirror its movements until two girls confronted Robin and Ayaka’s group. While the court jester continued to have her bout with Robin, her associate simply stared coldly and with little remorse towards Yuri and Ayaka. “You heard what your pet called us: Darkeepers. If you want my name, show me you’re strong enough to say it.”

The scorpion-like girl continued to move forward and it wasn’t hard to place what exactly the pair of them were. Twisted inversions of the girls who stood before them, a common title would be to label them as dark Magical Girls. But there was little time for semantics, especially when Ayaka made the first move. With her staff plunged into the ground, the area around the scorpion girl lit up in a lightshow of dazzling display. Just before the brightness took hold, the Darkeeper could be seen flourishing a book no bigger than her palm that pulsed power.

“Where do you think you’re going?” The voice was in front of Ayaka in moments, the form of the scorpion girl made out, most of all her leg reared back for a harsh kick towards Ayaka’s head. “Do you think this visor is for show?” she mused, her scorpion’s tail already flicking in the air like a serrated whip to slash and snap back at Yuri if he dared try to intervene.

Perhaps it was a sudden and wrenching conclusion to the events unfolding within Victoire’s manor, but it was the finale all the same. Despite the great serpent being slain once more and hopefully for good this time, its appearance and aftermath left too many unanswered questions. If nothing else, a hollow victory was victorying all the same, but even Victoire wasn’t around to commend or condemn the Tower’s travelers. She had long since departed into the shadows with her ward, leaving the rest of the manor eerily silent in the travelers’ wake.

Death had witnessed itself and back again with Riku’s revival, the princess escaping the depths of the Deathsphere only to be brought right back to the Tower. Having awoken right in front of Thomas, her fate was placed on hold as Ami and Kanbaru were no doubt recovering from their own strange predicaments. At least Caprice was there to put aside any doubts of comradery, fragile as they were among the group, with offered sweets meant to heal and mend. For a battle that had come to their victory and the thief discovered, everyone seemed more battered for it.

The Serei card in Kanbaru’s hand that had once rejected her did so again with a sudden spike of electricity zapping out from the card and through Kanbaru’s chest. It wasn’t enough voltage to stop her heart dead though and for the briefest of moments, the virus in her flesh recoiled; not to protect its host but to escape and abandon for another more suitable body. Neither option came into effect as the card ended its surge, remaining dormant within Kanbaru’s grip.

No sooner did everyone gather their bearings did the familiar light of the Tower began to encompass their forms. Much like before, it was the tell-tale signs of their return to the Dangeki Café Club and indeed in no time, all of the travelers, new and old, were displaced from Victoire’s Floor and deposited back into the familiar bar. Even Annabel was dropped into place, landing on a random bar stool as she clutched her hat indignantly. “Well that sucked. Hey whale watcher, gimmie back my card now.”

And so for now the Tower’s travelers found rest.

Mavis wasn’t surprised a dwarf would have such comradery with complete strangers, but she supposed it could be worse. There were others who might have taken the loner’s path in this encampment, or even worse, be outright hostile to their potential allies. Arrogance and pride were factors among the young, especially when adventure and glory were near. All the same, it was a nice change of pace to have some people pledge loyalty. Indeed, she wasn’t much surprised.

Instead, she merely nodded along to Banard’s words before doing as he instructed. While she wouldn’t participate hard into the merry going of their assembled crew, a drink or two wouldn’t hurt. With her mug, she raised it in rite of Banard’s toast as he further announced his oath for all to hear. She was almost sure the entire camp could hear them with the amount of loud ruckus they were putting off and wondered if the dwarf’s promise applied to all within earshot.

Morning came and went as it did, accompanied by the announcements that were promised to the enlisted. Mavis listened with some interest as each speech was made, specifically about what they were facing. Fighting the citizens? That almost seemed counterproductive but if Gabaras truly was being distorted in reality then matters were a bit more…complicated than most people expected. Still, it did draw eye to what exactly was going on in the darkened city. With their basic objectives set, the crowd dispersed to their own individual companies to move out.

A few more briefings later and Mavis found herself in near-familiar company. Indeed, all those from Row C were gathered into one group as they prepared for one last time before entering the city itself. So then, the goal was like the others, to protect the assigned mage? That seemed simple enough and Mavis had to smirk to herself at the prospect of what horrible creatures and monstrosities awaited them in the city….ah, but she was getting ahead of herself again.

Mavis almost expected the tone and atmosphere to remain in their group; that being one of solemn coming. However, she knew that wouldn’t last for long as she heard what sounded like chanting before it evolved into a full-on hymn. Immediately she knew, it had to be Banard, and couldn’t help but chuckle as his attempts to lighten the moods and spirits. Well, it was certainly appreciated no doubt. She only hoped the noise wouldn’t attract the creatures in darkness too early…
