Current Some of y'all are either too old to act the way you act, or too young to be taken seriously. Hard to tell some days.

I will not be rescinding my prior statements, with one exception: if able, I will continue writing with PRCU. Talking with a few people individually, and with the love I have for my stupid little boy Rory, it makes the most sense to stick with the greater consensus for the time being. I am still disappointed in how things have gone, and I can't guarantee I'll be as active as I was getting until things stalled out like three weeks ago, as I've taken on other projects and have other priorities (I am sorry, but I will stop being a human person for at least a week when Starfield drops in 57 days... oh yeah, and work/life stuff too I guess).

I don't want Rory's story, especially with Team Blackjack (and the losers who abandoned Blackjack), to end. That's my primary motivation, no doubts about it. I'll try to stick around to explore it a bit more.

Stinging pain. Sudden darkness. Nathaniel hadn't caught the slip of the hand, he was too focused on the sword arm of Julian. Now, he was without sight as he roared in pain. He drowned out his own hearing, leaving him surprised by the sudden strike to the shin. It didn't feel like the swing of a training sword. Nathaniel's mind poured through the various books and manuals he had read, but he couldn't understand what had just happened. Did this charlatan use magic? Nathaniel heard no incantation.

In the briefest moment before he was knocked off his feet, Nathaniel's lips and tongue had tasted some of the coarse… dirt? Sand? It made little difference. He had been tricked, just as the others. This Julian had employed yet another underhanded deception against him. This realization was met with a strong push in the chest, and his right foot had been knocked out of position just enough to fail to catch his weight. Nathaniel slammed onto his back, and the grip on his sword loosened. In a moment of panic, Nathaniel tried to lift his weapon up to swing blindly. He didn't even have the chance to do that much, as Julian had the leverage to swing down on his sword hand over and over. Nathaniel fought with his aching muscles to hold on, but he could only do so much against this disorienting onslaught. His grip weakened further still, and the sword was knocked from his grip. A shrill whistle could be heard piercing the air.

The match was over.

Nathaniel lost.

The teen removed his gloves, wiping and rubbing his eyes furiously while lying on the ground. The pain was extraordinary, and tears streamed down his cheeks involuntarily. A life of training, studying, preparing… all taken away in an instant. After clearing most of the sand from his eyes, enough to actually be able to look towards the box with the four knight Commanders, the face familiar to him was gone. The man he had known as a child had stepped away.

After everything, Nathaniel wasn't good enough.

He let his hand slam back into the ground for a moment, his eyes closed to help keep the involuntary tears at bay. He felt sick to his stomach, a mix of pure sorrow and anger mixing with anxiety in his gut. He had staked his life on this path, and had little else to go home to. He wasn’t meant to be a noble, or an aristocrat. He cared little for politics or parties. Yet here, and now, the only life he had ever dreamed of, had been swiftly snatched from his grasp by a conniving thug of a baker’s boy. Nathaniel’s pain latched onto a solitary name as he laid in his own defeat.

Julian Baker was the source of his dishonor. If he got the chance, he would unmask that rat for all to see what he had seen: not a future knight, but a charlatan with a pocket full of dirty tricks.
I've been chatting with @Hound55 and have left him a sizeable discord message for him to wake up to (good morning Hound! How are those timezones working out for ya?) but ultimately if people still want to move forward with Ju-V, I'm looking at doing so but retooling the premise to keep the tone distinct from PRCU, and wouldn't be accepting PRCU sheets EXCEPTING EXTENUATING CIRCUMSTANCES (SORRY). If you want to play your PRCU characters, PRCU is right here.

So I guess watch this space and, pending discussion of my proposed rework, I'll still look to get something out (or close enough for Hound to finalise and get out) before I leave for 2000Trees Thursday.

Disappointing to reject characters that we have made because of their association with a dying rp right out of the gate. It's a weird alienation of your core demographic, and is not very convincing in trying to get me to continue with an RP that was abandoned just because the GM has returned and "might" continue posting sometimes, maybe.

Let me know if anything comes of this. This flip flopping to appease someone with one foot out the door is getting old.
I have no intention of continuing with PRCU. I hope we continue on with something here.
I am confused.

I have been enjoying my vacation, so I haven't been keeping up with the discussions as much as everyone else. Last I remember, the majority of us speaking and posting publicly were fine leaving this here. We were specifically asked if we wanted to continue with this. The answer seemed to be no. We were moving on, making plans and formulating new ideas. Hound and Roman have been hard at working trying to build something new for us to move on as a community. It is deeply disappointing that when you didn't get the answer you wanted from us, you decided to do what you want to do anyways.

I will not be continuing on here. I stand by what I said before: We should end it here. I wish you all the best if you want to continue with this, but I will not be joining you in this thread anymore. I hope to continue RPing with the vast majority of you in one RP or another, but I am sorry to say it won't be at PRCU.
Yeah, I don't know that there would need to be much of an excuse to get put into this program. Could be anything from parents scared of their children having powers (even if they are harmless) shipping them off to "fix" them, to just even a minor display of powers in a public space causing a scare and getting a full-fledged police response.
So, to get things back on track, who/how many people are considering moving over their PRCU characters to this new RP? I know some people have already mentioned something along those lines, but I figured to ask now so we can all see where everyone is at.

I'll probably be bringing Rory over. He is probably going to look a lot different than in PRCU, but the core of the character will be the same. Just not ready to let go of that big dumb idiot.
To go off the offering suggestions for the sort of world building and direction of the RP, if we go with something like #2: I'll be straight up, I like the idea, but I may have read a different vibe from the rehabilitation than others. What I read by it, especially when talking about "instilling morality," is this has similar vibes to troubled teen and conversion therapy camps. That is probably a conversation of tone and intentionality about the program that might be a broader discussion. I think the rehabilitation program being a bad entity in the world can inspire interesting stories, but it'd definitely something we should figure out the tone of.

I know we were talking at a certain point about a Runaways type RP vibe at one point in the Discord. I don't know how linear or sandbox we are planning to go, but I imagine most of the characters that might be transferring from PRCU or being developed wholesale for this might be less than enthused about the program. It might be helpful to leave room, or make preparations, for the RP to change or develop into another direction of a group of these people to either break free or get out and try to do things in a more ethical way... or trying to figure out what that means.

It's more a down the road thing, but I figured I'd toss this rambling nonsense out in the open as a jumping point if anyone else can pick up what I put down and say it better.

“I’m going to cut you off… I don’t really care, man.”
Aaron, to a partner on a group project

Appearance Details

Aaron West stands at a solid six feet even, and weighs anywhere between 170 and 185 lbs depending on how much he’s bulking up for a certain season. He usually has a cocky grin plastered on his face, only to be replaced by a focused stare or cold indifference when it’s called for. He wears his high school varsity jacket with pride nearly anywhere he goes, with the appropriate patches for his roles on the Football, Basketball, and Baseball teams. A closer look reveals that his Varsity jacket is the only thing Aaron keeps pristine: the soles of his shoes have been worn down and smoothed, his jeans are always covered in grass or dirt stains, and his shirts are all older and worn out.
Characterization

Aaron West was supposed to get out of here.

He was always running, from a young age. His parents say it’s because he was a born athlete, but he taught himself everything he knows. He rarely spent time home, his parents both being out working a shift or drinking themselves into a stupor to numb the pain of having to go in the next day. So, Aaron grew up on the local basketball courts, and was signed up for nearly every sports camp and little league team he could be. Anything to make sure he wasn’t home.

It wasn’t until high school Aaron pieced together how bad his home life was. Two parents that hated each other, but were too tired and jaded to seek happiness elsewhere. Besides, why chase a better life when they could just blame their kid? The only times they ever seemed to be interested in him was at the games of his they could make. He could be something one day. He was an investment. Not enough of one to put effort into making sure he stayed on top of his grades and didn’t have to repeat the 8th grade… but an investment nonetheless.

Despite being somewhat popular for being a triple sport athlete, Aaron has earned himself a reputation of being a difficult jerk. He’s been called everything from sardonic (a word he probably doesn’t even know) to downright arrogant and aggressive. His teammates put up with him as much as they can, but Aaron knows they’d never stick their neck out for him if they didn’t have to. At the end of the day, it’s for the best. He doesn’t want to be stuck in Alpena Heights like his parents, and there’s no point in making connections to a place that’ll be in his rearview the rest of his life. Everyone else is just baggage that’ll slow him down.

At least, that’s what he tells himself. It’s easier than admitting his own flaws, or how his devil-may-care attitude has hurt anyone who has tried to get close. Best for his ego to just claim they abandoned him, or that he doesn’t need anyone.

Of course, maybe he would have been something in another world. But here… the only thing Aaron has going for him is he can keep running.

He always keeps running.
Character Notes

- Aaron’s father is Henry West, a used car salesman who works at a dealership near the mall.

-Aaron’s mother is Barbara West, a waitress at a local diner.

-Aaron and his parents are only children.
Inventory

-Smartphone, 2 generations old and with a cracked screen.
-Backpack, half-full since he forgot half his textbooks at home.
-Pack of cinnamon gum
-Keys to his car, a 2012 Hyundai Sonata, which is in the student lot.

Honestly, great pitches from you both. Personally, I think option 2 is the best sort of spiritual successor to allow for rough translations of characters, If we wanted to sort of continue in the same vein. I mean, the idea of it being a "rehabilitation center" leaves room for there to be more going on with the facility or program itself that lends itself to be perhaps more nefarious than it seems. And might just be a more interesting spin. The program could be opened up, like people suggested, in such a way that the characters are supervised and allowed to use their powers in service to their community.

Also, Pitch #4 looks really cool. It's clear a lot of work went into that pitch, and it looks like a cool dark fantasy. Though I realize that might be a tougher sell and doesn't allow us to continue with the characters we made... or even in the same genre.
